Morning & Afternoon Tour Information

We have two type of tours, a morning and an afternoon.   The morning catamaran tour is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. while the afternoon sunset catamaran tour is from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.   In both tours, we include transportation, fruits, snacks, drinks, and a lunch or dinner, as well as the snorkeling equipment for adults and children.

For those who are unfamiliar with a Trimaran, it is very similar to a Catamaran.   In fact the only big difference between the two, is that the Trimaran has a main hull and two smaller outrigger hulls, while a Catamaran has two hulls.

One of the highlights of your tour is snorkeling, while at anchor in a beautiful Jungle Bay. All of your snorkel gear is provided by the crew of Sunset Sails. A guide will lead you to the reef, which is home to many species of beautiful and fascinating fish. If you float cracker crumbs, you’ll be amazed, as schools of fish dart all around you, in a feeding frenzy. Parrotfish, damselfish, sargeant majors, wrasses, puffers and many more beautiful fish abound on the reef. If you have an underwater camera, you might want to bring it with you.

As your boat glides through the water, you will likely encounter Dolphins, which love to swim in our bow wake. Occasional Giant Sea Turtles and whales are a special treat, when they appear.

It is always a thrill to see the reaction from our guests when we encounter dolphins on our Manuel Antonio Coastal Boat Cruise . The dolphins that are most frequently seen are the Spotted Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin and Snipper Dolphin.

For those interested in viewing the Humpback Whale, the best time to see this magnificent mammal is from August through the end of October.  We have written an article about our whale watching cruise in Manuel Antonio .

Of course, one of the real highlights of our Sunset Cruise, is the Sunset. As the sun sets into the ocean horizon, it often creates spectacularly beautiful displays of color. It’s a perfect, romantic ending to a beautiful day in “Paradise”.

We invite everyone to enjoy this outstanding nature tour, which will let you enjoy amazing views of the Manuel Antonio National Park on board our catamaran. Enjoy great company and recreational fun during this half-day excursion. Choose between our morning and afternoon tours.

On board the catamaran, we offer a selection of fresh fruits and natural juices for you to enjoy as you cruise along the coast of this tropical paradise, enjoying the sea breeze and the never-ending Costa Rican sunshine.

First, we sail out to look for sea animals. You will cherish the sights of humpback whales (seasonal), dolphins, stingrays, and other exotic marine wildlife. Afterwards, we will stop in a beautiful and secluded bay known as Playa Biezans for some freestyle snorkeling, slide into the refreshing waters from our slide and enjoy some ocean swimming. Following the excitement of the water activities our crew will prepare a typical Costa Rican lunch/dinner, which will leave you feeling satisfied, full of energy and memories.

Important notes:

• You are not allowed to bring your own alcoholic beverages on board.
• A maximum of 5 cocktails with liquor will be served per person.
• A portion of 100 grams of protein is served with meals, to choose from chicken or fish. Accompanied with sauteed vegetables, rice, and salad.
• We maintain a tobacco-free environment, smoking on board is not permitted.
• Check-in times are 08:30 am for the 9:00 a.m. departure and 01:30 pm for the 02:00 pm departure. We will sail punctually, no exceptions.

Minimum number of people to operate a tour from Manuel Antonio, Jaco and Dominical is 2 people (except for our "Rainmaker Rainforest Hiking" and "Carara National Park" tours with a minimum of 4 people, and the "Iguana Catamaran & Snorkeling" tour with a minimum of 6 people). If the minimum is not met, the amount for the minimum number of people will be charged. Rates for customers in Dominical, between Uvita and Cristal Ballena, are based on a minimum of 4 people. Rates for customers in Dominical between Uvita and Ballena Cristal are based on a minimum of 4 people.

Rates for private tours are calculated based on a minimum of 6 people, each person above this will pay an additional fee.

• All children under the age of 6 are free of charge.
• All children 6 years and older pay full net rate.
• All children must be under adult supervision.

Travel Agencies: All reservations must be requested by fax, telephone, or e-mail. Your reservations will be confirmed, as well as pick-up times and any other necessary information within 24 hours. To help us serve you better, please make sure to clearly specify the pick-up location and any special instructions needed for your clients’ adventure with us.

We require that on the day of the tour your clients show us a copy of their voucher, which shows us their prepayment amount and any additional details needed for their Iguana Tours Adventure.

Individual Travelers – Direct Reservations: All reservations must be requested by fax, telephone, or e-mail. Your reservations will be confirmed, as well as pick-up times and any other necessary information within 24 hours. To help us serve you better, specify your pick-up location and any special instructions needed for your adventure with us.

On the day of the tour, you must present a copy of the payment receipt or voucher.

• Very important: Notify us of any medical conditions that may affect you during the tour.
• Notify us if you have any allergies, and if there are any meal specifications we must take into account.
• Tell us how many children you'll be taking along for the trip, as well as their ages.

If necessary, please submit cancellations by telephone, e-mail, or fax. There will be no refunds on cancellations made less than 48 hours before the confirmed pick-up time for any tour. For group tours, there are no refunds on cancellations made 7 days before the date of the tour. If there are any questions regarding these policies, please contact our Director of Operations directly.

Because we respect and protect our animals, the maximum weight allowed for the horseback riding tours is 200 lbs or 90 kg. We have social and ecological programs, please let us know if you require any additional information.

Had a great time and loved seeing the dolphins! All over a wonderful trip!

I have done a few different boat tours in Costa Rica and this was the best. Great food, the barbecued fish was excellent, clean alcoholic drinks using fresh fruit mixes, showers to use after swimming in the sea, friendly and helpful staff, daring water slides and diving off the upper floor was fun. Could not fault it, felt wonderful to be on the catamaran.

The boat and crew were fantastic. A real highlight of our family trip.

Incredible experience and wonderful crew!

The experience was really well organized with pick up and return to our hotel. The crew were super friendly and let my two sons steer the catamaran for a while. They were also flexible so that when dolphins were spotted, they were on it and took us to see them. The dinner was surprisingly tasty and plentiful (same with the drinks!). I’d highly recommend the cruise.

We had an amazing time!! We saw three humpback whales, lots of fish, and a beautiful sunset!! My 5 and 8 year olds had the time of their lives. Thank you!!

Best catamaran we have taken

We have two young kids and have done another catamaran in tamarindo and one on the big island of Hawaii. This was by far the best. The staff was fun with the kids. They made them super comfortable with the masks. And the fish – both in the water and for dinner – was great.

Catamaran Tour in Manuel Antonio Costa Rica

The catamaran tour in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is a must to do excursion.  They take you around the Manuel Antonio National Park and its surrounding beaches.  There is also a common sight seeing of the Bottle Nose Dolphins, a wide variety of birds and other marine life. The boat has professional captain and tour guides which are there to explain the area and its history.  The boat is also equipped with snorkeling equipment for adults and kids.

Price Per Person: Morning Tour: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m.    $75 P/P

Price Per Person: Afternoon Tour: 12:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.    $80 P/P

The tour consist of:

4 hour tour around the coastline of Manuel Antonio

Pass by Mogotes Island, Olocuilta Island, Punta Catedral and Manuel Antonio National Park.

We usually encounter lots of wildlife, including :dolphins, marine birds and sea turtles. Ocassional whales are seen during their migratory season. Of course, being that they’re all wild animals, sightings are unpredictable.  

40 min Snorkeling session.

Drinks: Soda Pops / Natural drinks.

A description of the catamaran tour

By now you are probably wondering the details of the catamaran coastal cruise in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.   The first part is by picking you up at your Hotel or Villa.   Afterwards, you are brought down to the Marina Pez Vela where you will be greeted by the staff of the catamaran tour who will take you to the boat.   Once you are aboard, you will receive a short safety instruction by your guide.    

The cruise will start by visiting the beaches of the Manuel Antonio National Park.   The crew on the boat will then go searching for dolphins and other marine life.   Typically this can be noticed by flying birds as they represent a signal of activity underwater.   Once you have had the opportunity to see marine life, you will then go snorkeling in a nearby reef.   This reef provides a wonderful variety of small reef fish for you to see.   You don`t have to worry about brining your own snorkeling equipment, as this is provided for you during the catamaran tour.    

Some people decide to stay near the boat because it has a waterslide and when the boat is stopped, you can take advantage of the waterslide on the back to slide into the pacific ocean. 

When you are done snorkeling, it will be time to serve you the complete meal provided during the cruise.   This meal is rice, fish and vegetables.   Everything is prepared fresh on the boat during the cruise, so nothing is frozen.   There is a chef on the boat who is responsible for preparing the meal for you. 

The beautiful coast of Manuel Antonio is sure to cause a great first impression.   The catamaran tour gives you a great view of the entire coast of Manuel Antonio, one that you can´t get from other activities.   This is a great tour to enjoy being out at sea and a fantastic way of relaxing and take in all of the gorgeous scenery.

The boat departs from the Marina Pez Vela

Most of our guests stay in Manuel Antonio which is just 5 minutes away from the Marina Pez Vela in Quepos.   The catamaran boats are docked at the Marina Pez Vela which is about a 7 year old Marina built to make boating easier here in Quepos, Costa Rica.

Catamaran Cruise - Iguana

Looking for a relaxing way to spend a few hours? If so, the Catamaran Cruise along the Manuel Antonio coastline is just what the doctor ordered.

The day starts off when you are picked up from your Manuel Antonio hotel. After picking up some of your fellow travelers, a short drive will bring you to the Quepos Marina where the boat is docked. The double-decker catamaran style boat is up to Costa Rica maritime standards and life jackets are readily available.

When the boat leaves the Quepos Marina, you will travel along the gorgeous Manuel Antonio coast. This is a beautiful and scenic area with jungle-lined mountains that roll down to the sea. You will see tropical islands and eventually reach Playa Biesanz. This is where you will have a chance to swim and use the waterslide. You will also be provided with snorkeling gear to explore the sea life. This area can be hit or miss for snorkeling with the best snorkeling typically between January and April, but you will always have a good chance of seeing some tropical fish.

This tour also provides the possibility of seeing marine mammals, coastal birds, and reptiles. From late August through September, there is a reasonable shot at seeing humpback whales. Dolphins are frequently observed during most of the year. Sea turtles are commonly spotted during the rain season and of course, the coastal birds can be seen year-round.

While snorkeling and wildlife observation are possible, the main attraction of this tour is to relax, unwind, enjoy the music and have a good time. There is a nice selection of snacks and drinks including cocktails with Costa Rican liquor. A typical Costa Rican lunch will be served about half way through the tour, so this will be an early lunch for those that select the morning tour and a late lunch for those that choose the afternoon tour.

When deciding on tour times, visitors should keep in mind that the morning tour usually has better weather than the afternoon tour, particularly during the green season. When the weather is nice, the sunsets can be incredible on the afternoon tour. After the tour, you will be returned to your hotel. Including round trip transfers, this activity is expected to last around four hours, though this is subject to change. This tour includes transportation from Manuel Antonio area hotels. A surcharge is applied for transportation from other zones and is not included in online rates. It also includes drinks, and a snack.

We had a bit of a wait while all the shuttles arrived on site and we had a little boat issue before boarding but both were resolved and our time was extended. The weather was gorgeous and just made for the best day of fun on the water. The slides and jumping deck were a ton of fun. Drinks were wonderful. Music was so lively and Alan was definitely the Best One. He and the crew made the boat so welcoming and such a party. Great end to our vacation.

This Catamaran Cruise was a blast!

Nice trip, good weather, some drinks, fruit and a lunch. But unfortunately no wales, no dolphines, not so clear water and thus snorkling was not interesting. And I met a jellyfish... luckily they had a product for that.

I was so impressed with how we were treated. There were only 4 of us on a tour that accommodated 70 people. Yet Alex and crew acted like we were all VIP's. They actually extended the tour a bit to see the complete sunset and the frigatebirds roosting on the rocks. They caught a tuna and cooked it for us on the spot. We found flying fish and lots of dolphins. A perfect tour.

The snorkeling was ok. Occasional currents would pop up near the site and my poor wife got banged against the coral. She gave up after that. Visibility was low. I thought there would be more fish/coral. I still enjoyed myself. The music on the boat was super loud.....it would have been better with no music.

The MAGIC KING is the perfect catamaran for a group up to 25 people max and a minimum of 10 

 This includes transportation from any Hotel In Quepos or Manuel Antonio, snacks, Capitan crew 4 alcoholic drinks cocktail style or beer per person, unlimited natural drinks, snorkeling  tour and Lunch

The Magic has a slide, two trampolines, a climbing Mayan, a Swing Tarzan, a bar, a second floor of the tanning area, shared lockers, two sanitary facilities and a shower.

Lunch  rosemary potatoes, sautéed vegetables, a fish fillet in passion fruit sauce (optional) and chips.

We can pick you up at 8 am , drop off by 1 pm total time on the catamaran 3 hours And 30 minutes,

You can not brig extra alcohol in the catamaran

The alcoholic drinks provided on the tour will be available after the Snorkling stop
