The best pictures of Koru

In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

BOAT rounds up the best pictures of the three-masted sailing yacht owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos...

Koru unable to dock in Florida

Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .

Koru's helicopter landing

Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.

Koru in Portofino

Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.

Koru's figurehead

Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".

Koru in front of Palma Cathedral

After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.

Koru delivered to Mallorca

In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .

Koru in Gibraltar

Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.

Koru on sea trials

Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.

Koru with her masts stepped

The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.

Koru launched

The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).

Koru moves through the Dutch canals

Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.

Koru from a bird's eye view

As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.

Koru rolls out of the shed

When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Jeff Bezos’s New 417-Foot Superyacht Is Now Undergoing Sea Trials

Oceanco Koru Superyacht

Reports from earlier this month suggested that Jeff Bezos was finally getting his hands on his new $500 million superyacht . But it seems the Amazon founder is going to have to wait just a little bit longer for his new toy.

During sea trials , a ship is tested to ensure that everything is working as it should be. Depending on what happens during this go-round, Koru could be sent back to the shipyard for final adjustments before making its way to Bezos, a person familiar with the boat’s travels told Bloomberg, requesting anonymity to discuss private matters. (An Amazon spokesperson didn’t respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.)

As yacht fans surely know already, Koru is a pretty big deal in the maritime world: It’s currently the largest sailing yacht afloat, and one of the biggest ever built by the Netherlands-based Oceanco . On board, among other amenities, you’ll find a large pool and more than a few outdoor lounges. One feature that’s missing, though? A helipad. Because the sails of the ship are so large (they’re the same height as the Great Pyramid of Giza, for some perspective), there wasn’t room for landing a helicopter. As such, Bezos has commissioned a support boat for the task. That vessel is currently crossing the Atlantic and heading for Gibraltar, according to tracking data cited by Bloomberg.

Koru ’s size has created more than one headache for Bezos so far. Along with the helipad issue, the boat was going to cause a historic steel bridge in Rotterdam to be dismantled . The city initially acquiesced to Oceanco’s request, but there was enough public outrage over the demand that the shipbuilder ended up retracting its ask. Instead, Koru was pulled out to sea without its massive masts.

Has the World Finally Had a Glimpse of Jeff Bezos’s $500 Million Mega-Yacht?

By Shivani Vora

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is appears to be getting closer to welcoming the superyacht he reportedly commissioned in 2018: a fancy toy fitting for the world’s second-richest person, given that it costs a reported $500 million and breaks one world record after another.

Called Y721, this vessel of all vessels is being custom designed by Dutch builder Oceanco and was spotted at a shipyard last week in Zwijndrecht, a town in the western Netherlands. It’s reportedly heading to another Netherlands town, Alblasserdam, for a final fitting. With a length of 417 feet, Y721 is the biggest sailing yacht in the world and the longest vessel to be built in the Netherlands. Features include a black hull, classic shape, three large decks, and three masts.

Superyacht Bravo Eugenia , belonging to the U.S. billionaire Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, was built by Oceanco, which is also rumored to be behind Bezos’s new massive vessel.

Y721 is going to totally change the world of yachting with its design and innovation, says Fernando Nicholson, a luxury yacht sales broker with the yachting company Camper & Nicholsons. “It’s a boat with the latest technology and bells and whistles that have never been seen,” he says. “This will be the standard for all superyachts to follow, but in years to come, when its features become more affordable. Right now, only someone with Bezos’s wealth can swing the cost.”

The superyacht is said to be modeled after Oceanco’s famous yacht, the Black Pearl , which the company site says , “is one of the largest and most ecological sailing yachts in the world. She can cross the Atlantic without burning even a liter of fossil fuel.” Y721 will go through sea trails following its fitting-out in Alblasserdam and is expected to be ready sometime next year.

The Flying Fox , allegedly owned by Bezos.

However, it’s only one of two new boats for Bezos: He has also commissioned a shadow vessel called YS 7512 from builder Damen Yachts. This support ship measures 246 feet in length and accommodates 45 additional crew and guests. It will also feature a helipad and meeting space and have a vast amount of storage for Bezos’s endless number of water toys, with diving and snorkeling gear, jet and water skis, waterslides, and surfboards among the bunch. Shadow vessels are a growing phenomenon in the superyacht industry and one more extra toy that their owners want to have at the ready, says Nicholson. “You see them more and more now as an add-on to a superyacht purchase,” he says. “They’ve almost become a must.”

There’s no doubt that Bezos will be sailing the high seas in full panache and style come 2022. But really, is there any other way when you have more money than almost anyone else in the world and attract an endless amount of attention too?

Anna Wintour to crown Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez as new American royalty on Met Gala red carpet

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, in a red dress, walk into the White House.

When Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos step on to the red carpet at the Met Gala next month, it will mark their coronation as America’s new royalty.

Page Six has learned that the couple have been wooed by Anna Wintour and will attend the night.

It puts the Amazon king and his bride-to-be at the apex of celebrity and power, from Hollywood to Washington, DC, to Miami — and now to New York’s most glittering social event.

Lauren Sanchez, in red dress, links arms with Jeff Bezos, in a tuxedo.

Their court is stuffed with power players including Kris Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Barry Diller — who threw the couple an engagement party — and David Geffen, and aides from stylists to schedulers.

They dispense largesse in the form of a “courage and civility award,” and mingle with other royalty, including not just King Charles , but Prince William and his exiled brother Prince Harry .

They even have a $500 million royal yacht, Koru , the largest sailing yacht in the world.

Lauren Sanchez, in red gown, holds hands with Jeff Bezos.

And this month their vast political power was recognized when they were invited to the White House by President Joe Biden for a state dinner for the prime minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, where they joined guests including JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and Apple’s Tim Cook.

Bezos, 60, declined to answer whether he will be donating to Biden’s campaign.

But his net worth of $197 billion means that he is now the Democrats’ target number one for cash.

Lenny Kravitz, Lauren Sanchez, Jeff Bezos, Kim Kardashian, Sofia Vergara, Kris Jenner, and Demi Lova pose at the Vanity Fair party.

A Washington, DC, source who has worked closely on fundraising with the White House said that when organizing state dinners, some spots are discreetly offered to people “supportive” of the president’s “fundraising endeavors.”

The source told Page Six of the invite, “If Bezos is not already supporting one of the super PACS it’s a strong indication that he’s being courted to support one of the super PACS.

“The question is whether he’ll become the Dems equivalent to the Koch brothers’ relationship with the Republicans.”

King Charles talks to Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez.

Billionaire Charles Koch and his late brother David were for years seen as the Republicans’ most important donors.

They founded Americans for Prosperity Action, have pumped their own cash into a host of conservative groups and have galvanized others to follow their lead.

Now Democrats sense they could hit a similar cash gusher.

Bezos — who stepped down as Amazon CEO in July 2021 — and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump have a feud that dates back to 2015, which resulted in Bezos joking that Trump should be sent to space.

Lauren Sanchez sits next to Jeff Bezos, who's seated next to Anna Wintour and Bee Shaffer.

Since then, Trump has called Bezos “Jeff Bozo” and said it would be a “great idea” if employees at the Bezos-owned Washington Post went on a “really long strike.”

Intriguingly, Sanchez is now one of the highest-profile Latinas in the country, a demographic that Democrats are concerned has been drifting towards the Republicans .

The couple recently moved to Florida — home to a large Latino community and historically a swing state, although recently firmly Republican.

Sarah Staudinger stands next to Ari Emanuel, who's next to Lauren Sanchez and Jeff Bezos.

Earlier this month, Bezos purchased a home for approximately $90 million in Indian Creek Village, Miami— colloquially known as Billionaire Bunker.

It’s the third property he owns in the exclusive neighborhood, where Tom Brady lives, alongside Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

The couple will live in the home while the other two homes are torn down, according to Bloomberg .

Last month, Sanchez and Bezos honored Eva Longoria — a prominent Latina Democratic supporter who stumped for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — with the Bezos Courage and Civility Award and gave the actress a $50 million grant for her charitable endeavors.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez spotted strolling hand in hand in Portofino.

“She once said superheroes and even everyday heroes don’t often look like her father, or sound like her Tio – her uncle. But they can and they should,” Sanchez wrote on Instagram .

If Bezos brought the scent of almost unlimited money to the White House, Sanchez, 54, added the glamor, clad in a $2,200 red lace and satin corset dress by Rasario which raised eyebrows for its generous display of cleavage .

ALICE + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet told Page Six, “Lauren has what I call BGE, best girl energy, these are the girls you want in your life.

Koru yacht.

“She’s truly the sexiest woman in the world – she owns it, why can’t she look sexy at the White House? I doubt anyone at the White House complained!”

The former TV reporter now has her own stylist, Kelly Johnson, who counts Catherine Zeta Jones, “Abbot Elementary” star Lisa Ann Walter, and actress Tamera Mowry among her clients.

Johnson also dressed Sanchez in a revealing red Lever Couture gown for the Vanity Fair Oscars party last month.

Lauren Sanchez and Kim Kardashian pull faces.

Sanchez’s glam squad frequently includes hair stylist Olivia Halpin and make-up artist Laura Ann who wrote online, “It’s an honor watching you and @jeffbezoschange the world!” She also turns to Jamie Sherrill — known as Nurse Jamie — for tweaks and treatments.

She also counts Hollywood power women Lydia Kives — married to Hollywood super-connector Michael Kives — and entrepreneur Veronica Smiley Grazer, married to producer Brian Grazer, as her best friends.

Sanchez has helped make-over Bezos into a character seemingly based on Tony Stark from Iron Man, while Bezos has introduced his fiancée to a string of significant power brokers.

Lauren Sanchez poses with Eva Longoria and Kim Kardashian.

He has a longtime friendship with Wintour, which dates back to 2012 when Amazon first sponsored the Met Gala, and Bezos, then honorary chairman, was joined by his then-wife Mackenzie Scott.

Back then, he took styling advice from Wintour, who advised him to team a pocket square with his Tom Ford tux.

Bezos then attended the gala solo in 2019 — weeks after it was revealed that he had been having an affair with Sanchez — and was divorcing Scott , the mother of his three sons and one daughter.

Jeff Bezos teases Leonardo DiCaprio after girlfriend Lauren Sanchez caught giving Leo eyes.

Sanchez soon also divorced her husband, Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell, with whom she has two children, Evan, 17, and Ella, 16. She also has a son, Nikko, 23, with former NFL player Tony Gonzalez.

In January 2020,  the couple joined Wintour for a lengthy lunch at St Ambroeus in the West Village, and in September 2022, they attended a star-studded party at Wintour’s Manhattan townhouse alongside a slew of other A-listers like Hugh Jackman, Leonardo DiCaprio, and singer Florence Welch.

Now Sanchez has her own relationship with Wintour — who as well as running the Met Gala, is one of the Democratic party’s most prominent media cheerleaders.

In June 2022, Sanchez had a power girls night out with Wintour and Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abdein at Indochine in Noho, Manhattan, before they went to the Public Theater.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are seen out for a walk in Beaulieu sur Mer, France.

Then came a Vogue shoot with celeb snapper Annie Leibovitz in November.

She photographed Sanchez inside the 10,000 Year Clock, a subterranean project in West Texas — and posing with Bezos in a shoot that was dubbed “uncomfortable” and “cringe”.

In one photo, the lovebirds sat in the front seat of a retro van while Bezos wore a brown cowboy hat, black T-shirt and blue jeans while Sánchez flaunted her arm muscles in a tight white tank.

Unfortunately for the couple, several readers were not fans of their looks or the idea that “Vogue” was “glamorizing” the billionaire. Some even likened Sanchez to rocker Steven Tyler.

eff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom and Usher took walk along the Dubrovnik's main street Stradun, in Dubrovnik, Croatia.

The slings and arrows, particularly online, have stepped up recently.

Last week, legendary New York restaurateur Keith McNally wrote online, “Does anybody else find Jeff Bezos’ New wife – Lauren Sanchez – ABSOLUTELY REVOLTING?’”

‘What an ugly and F***ing SMUG – LOOKING couple they make. Is this what having 1000 Billion dollars does to people?”

Keith McNally holds a drink.

The response from the Bezos-Sanchez orbit was rapid.

Sanchez’s younger sister Elena Sanchez Blair retorted, “This is my sister you are talking about. A human being. One of the kindest, most loving people in the world. This is cruel and hurtful.”

Sanchez herself shrugged off the lèse-majesté by posting an inspirational speaker’s quote, “People will love you. People will hate you. And none of it will have anything to do with you.”

Lauren Sánchez' dating history before Jeff Bezos: from NFL players to a Hollywood hotshot

I t may have taken them a few years and other relationships, but Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez finally made their way towards each other, and will soon make it official.

The couple started dating in 2019 following their respective divorces at the time, and the Amazon billionaire popped the question in 2023 during a yacht trip to the Cannes Film Festival, with a $2.5 million pink engagement ring.

Now, before they officially make their way down the aisle, take a look back at the former entertainment reporter's dating history prior to becoming the new Mrs. Bezos.

Rory Markas

Lauren's first known relationship, though before she was a public figure, was while she was still in college at the University of Southern California.

Lauren met NFL star Anthony at the 1996 Super Bowl in Arizona, and they were together for four years, engaged for a little over a year.

It's unclear how long they were together, however they have remained good friends while co-parenting their son, and in 2021, her and Jeff were spotted out having a meal with Tony and his wife October González.

During this time, she was also rumored to have dated basketball player Derek Fisher and to have had a brief engagement with actor Henry Simmons.

Patrick Whitesell

In 2005, Lauren met and married Patrick, the executive chairman of William Morris Endeavor (WME), a talent agency that represents stars across the entertainment, sports and fashion industries.

In their time together, they welcomed two kids, son Evan in 2006, and daughter Eleanor in 2008. Though it's unclear when they separated, presumably some time in 2017 or 2018, they announced their divorce in January of 2019, when her romance with Jeff was made public, and it was finalized in October of that year. In 2021, he married Australian model and actress Pia Miller.

Breaking news, i was an electrician, now i’m a professional jeff bezos lookalike — and my life is lavish, too.

He looks like a billion bucks.

A German ex-electrician went from watts to wealth after quitting his gig and becoming a professional Jeff Bezos lookalike.

Now, much like his celebrity doppelgänger, he lives a lavish lifestyle as an entrepreneur.

“I look like his twin brother,” Cagdas Halicilar, 46, told Jam Press of his uncanny resemblance to the Amazon founder, who is the world’s second-richest person with just over a cool $201 billion dollars.

A German ex-electrician went from watts to wealth after quitting his gig and becoming a professional Jeff Bezos lookalike.

With his bald head and casual attire, Halicilar is such a dead ringer for the E-bazaar boss that he claims he’s swarmed for selfies by fans who think he’s the bonafide Bezos.

It reportedly takes little effort for Halicilar to get into character.

“Because Jeff Bezos also dresses casually, it doesn’t matter whether I’m wearing a suit or wearing jeans and a polo shirt,” he said. “The only thing I do is shave my head and regularly apply Nivea cream. But I have already been doing this for over 10 years now.”

The Leimen native spent the first half of his life as an electrician but decided to quit after growing weary of the long days spent wasting away on construction sites.

Halicilar is now a professional Jeff Bezos lookalike.

Like his mirror muse, Halicilar also dreamed of being a successful businessman. The dreamer decided to quit his gig and go into logistics before founding a transport company, CB Transporte, three years ago.

It was around then that a friend noticed he looked eerily similar to the Amazon magnate.

”When I became an entrepreneur, my friends and acquaintances said to me that I looked like a billionaire,” Halicilar recalled. “I didn’t know what they meant by that until I was shown the picture of Jeff Bezos – some of my friends joked that he had cloned me.”

Halicilar.

Halicilar decided to take advantage of his “billionaire” looks and signed up with a doppelgänger agency.

Moonlighting as Bezos part-time has allowed the mogul impersonator to land some eye-popping opportunities, including various gigs on German TV stations and at events.

He even did a guest spot on the German Netflix mini-series “ King of Stonks .”

In fact, the social chameleon is so good at his side hustle that he supposedly even tricked Amazon employees into thinking he was the real deal.

“When I was in Seattle with my friends, we walked through the Amazon campus,” recalled Halicilar. ”All the Amazon employees came to me, wanted selfies and thanked me for being proud to work at Amazon.”

Halicilar.

The tech titan lookalike says that he’s become so secondhand famous that his “partner sometimes gets annoyed when people come to me and want selfies, but many don’t dare to speak to me.”

The only downside is that no one has “flirted” with Halicilar due to his rich boy visage, he joked.

The German’s looks aren’t where the similarities end, either.

”I also have a lifestyle almost like him – I often travel on ships and even have a butler and drink a good whiskey like Jeff,” declared the mogul method actor. ”My wish is to drink a whiskey with Jeff Bezos on his yacht — he is just as much of a yacht fanatic as I am.”

Because what’s the point of looking like a centabillionaire if you can’t play the part, right?

Halicilar.

However, Halicilar might have a ways to go before living up to his celebrity double.

Bezos recently purchased a $90 mansion on South Florida’s Indian Creek Island — his third in the neighborhood.

The Meta-morphosis of Mark Zuckerberg

The robotic nerd depicted in “The Social Network” has turned into the kinder, more accessible face of Silicon Valley. What’s going on?

Mr. Zuckerberg, wearing in a tan shearling jacket, waves toward photographers.

By Vanessa Friedman

In the run-up to Meta’s first-quarter earnings report this week, a video image of Mark Zuckerberg suddenly started going viral.

Not because of the artificial intelligence assistant he was touting or because of the expected ad revenue growth, but because of the silver chain he was wearing around his neck.

“Mark Zuckerberg made an announcement about something Meta is doing with A.I., but I could not listen to or retain a second of it because when I look at the Reel of him talking, all I see is necklace,” Amy Odell wrote in her Substack, Back Row.

Later, a doctored version of the same picture with Mr. Zuckerberg sporting some scruffy facial hair got people even more excited. The 4,000-plus mostly drooling comments under an Instagram post from the celebrity news account The Shade Room included one from Gwyneth Paltrow, who compared Mr. Zuckerberg to her ex-husband, Chris Martin.

All of a sudden, it seems, people care a lot about how Mark Zuckerberg, 39, looks. At a time when the halcyon promise of technology has been cast in a darker, more suspicious light, the guy whose relentless allegiance to a gray T-shirt became synonymous with the nerd pledge to “move fast and break things” has somehow become the kinder, gentler face of technology.

“The history of Silicon Valley has always been about a carefully constructed image and narrative used to reinforce its myths,” said Venky Ganesan, a partner at the venture capital firm Menlo Ventures. But, he went on, “The playbook is changing.”

And Mr. Zuckerberg has emerged as the most visible sign yet that in the phenomenology of Silicon Valley, we are entering a post-Jobsian age.

Once upon a time, back in the days when Steve Jobs was the prophet of a better future through computing, the virtues of his approach to life seemed self-evident, including the adoption of an immutable daily uniform as the ideal form of dress. It freed the mind from the paltry concerns of such everyday choices as what color shirt goes with what socks. (So annoying!) Thus it was, too, with Mr. Zuckerberg, who went so far as to announce in a 2014 Facebook forum that he wore the same T-shirt every day because “I really want to clear my life so that I have to make as few decisions as possible, other than how to best serve this community.”

(Admittedly, it was a luxury version of a gray T-shirt from Brunello Cucinelli, but it was still a T-shirt.)

But after multiple trips by chief executives to Washington, D.C. , to testify about the controversies about anxiety and depression caused by social media pressures; after the convictions of Elizabeth Holmes (she of the Jobs-like black turtleneck) and Sam Bankman-Fried ; after the cesspool of conspiracy theories and anger that has emerged on X; after all that, the story — and its heroes’ journeys and its heroes’ costumes — suddenly doesn’t look so convincing. Behold the new, looser Mr. Zuckerberg.

He has become, said Joseph Rosenfeld, an image consultant and stylist who works with executives in New York and California, “a more democratized figure.”

Arguably the seeds were planted back in 2021, when Facebook turned into Meta, and Mr. Zuckerberg’s first avatar — dressed, as he generally was IRL, in a T-shirt and jeans — turned out to have a closet of alternative outfits, including a skeleton unitard and an astronaut’s suit. The transformation picked up steam as Mr. Zuckerberg discovered the joys of mixed martial arts and started posting photographs of himself shirtless , sweaty and with various bumps and bruises. It then reached a tipping point with the introduction of the platform Threads.

Not long after Mr. Zuckerberg unveiled his “open and friendly public space for conversation,” he also unveiled his own new, friendlier look — one that focused less on an automated uniform and more on experimentation (everything being relative), as recorded via his own Instagram posts. Suddenly, it seemed as though he was having fun with fashion.

He cheerfully shared photographs of himself looking “Yellowstone”-ready in a chunky shearling coat by Overland. (It seems to be the Maverick Rancher coat, which is the sort of subconscious tell “Saturday Night Live” might embrace.) Next came snaps of himself and his wife, Priscilla Chan, at Anant Ambani’s three-day pre-wedding celebration in Gujarat, in various forms of Indian-inspired finery: a gold silk Sunderbans Tigress shirt from Rahul Mishra, a black Alexander McQueen suit embroidered with silver dragonflies and a pastel floral kurta.

And then Mr. Zuckerberg added a pic titled “ jersey swap ” in which he and Jensen Huang of Nvidia traded outerwear, with Mr. Zuckerberg donning one of Mr. Huang’s trademark leather jackets and Mr. Huang his shearling. By the time of his last jaunt to the capital, he had let his tightly controlled Julius Caesar haircut grow into looser curls.

He has even started sharing shopping tips. When Jen Wieczner of New York magazine wrote an article identifying a sweater Mr. Zuckerberg wore as from the stealth wealth brand Loro Piana, he popped into the comments under the magazine’s Instagram post to note that the garment was actually a crew neck from Buck Mason — a Los Angeles brand that focuses on American classics — not one from an Italian luxury house owned by LVMH.

Then, when one of Mr. Zuckerberg’s followers complimented a ribbed knit cardigan he wore in a date night pick on his feed, he jumped in with a tag: “It’s @johnelliottco — I’m loving their stuff recently.”

Other brands he favors now include Todd Snyder and Vuori.

“They are kind of trendy names,” said Derek Guy, who blogs about men’s wear at Die, Workwear! “Everything has a different silhouette, like the sweatshirt with overly long sleeves or the T-shirt with dropped shoulder seams.”

Mr. Guy and Mr. Ganesan, of Menlo Ventures, said they were convinced that Mr. Zuckerberg had enlisted professional help (which is to say, a stylist) to help him develop his look. But a spokeswoman for Meta said that was not the case — at least for his day-to-day life. “Mark mostly buys clothes he finds on Instagram,” she said. “Though he does get input from time to time for formal events and occasions.”

Either way, Mr. Zuckerberg’s pivot from the luxury labels made famous by the morally bankrupt billionaires of “Succession” to more contemporary brands means that “he now has a stable of clothing that makes him an accessible figure for the world and his audience,” Mr. Rosenfeld said.

His new wardrobe also distinguishes him from rivals like Jeff Bezos — who has transformed himself into a real life version of Iron Man, with his bulging muscles, leather jackets and yachts — and Elon Musk, who seems to be channeling a sort of “Top Gun”-meets- “Goldfinger” vibe.

By contrast, Mr. Ganesan said, Mr. Zuckerberg now looks like “the buddy you want to call if you’re doing backyard construction.” Think of him as the tech dude next door. All of which matters because, Mr. Ganesan went on, “mainstream America can relate to that, and he is offering a mainstream product.”

And that, he said, is just “very good for business.”

An earlier version of a picture caption with this article, using information from Blanks by Thirteen Studios, misidentified the manufacturer of a white T-shirt that Mark Zuckerberg wore in Las Vegas. The shirt was made by John Elliott, not Blanks by Thirteen.

Should you use these money-saving tricks of jeff bezos and other billionaires to fund your next big purchase.

You might think that billionaires like Jeff Bezos, among others, have all the cash in the world to purchase whatever they desire : yachts, expensive watches and luxurious homes. But often, the world’s wealthiest elite are frequently tied up in stocks . Selling those stocks leads to capital gains tax, reducing their net worth.

Check Out: IRS Increases Gift and Estate Tax Exempt Limits — Here’s How Much You Can Give Without Paying Read Next: 6 Genius Things All Wealthy People Do With Their Money

There’s a way around it, though. And an increasing number of brokerage firms and life insurance providers are making this tax-saving tactic available to average investors. However, it’s important to understand the risks involved.

Borrow Against Your Investment Portfolio

For years, people have borrowed against their 401(k) retirement fund for major purchases or to pay off high-interest debt. That’s better than paying the taxes and penalties for an early withdrawal, but it’s not ideal. The benefit is that you pay the money back to yourself over time with interest.

The drawbacks, however, are that you’re missing out on tax-deferred compound interest that could bring you closer to your retirement goals, according to an article on the Merrill Lynch website. Further, if you leave your job or get laid off, you might have to pay the loan back immediately — and the amount you owe, according to Merrill Lynch, now counts as an early distribution, which could mean additional income taxes owed.

If you have stocks or other investments, however, you have expanded choices. For instance, financial services company E-Trade offers a line of credit that allows you to borrow against eligible brokerage accounts with $50,000 or more in combined collateral value. You don’t need millions of dollars in Amazon stock to take advantage of this tactic.

“What this is getting at is just the concept of leverage,” explained Matt Watson, founder of Origin Financial. “You can borrow against your investment portfolio. You can borrow against a home loan or car loan.”

However, he warned, this tactic is not for everyone. If the asset you borrowed against depreciates — or you need to sell the asset quickly before you pay off the loan — you could be underwater. It’s also a problem, Watson said, for people who borrow against assets to purchase riskier investments.

“TikTok influencers are saying to take money out of an investment and make another investment in stocks or speculative assets. What that is doing, ultimately, is just increasing risk,” he previously told GOBankingRates. “Risk should be considered in the context of a total financial plan.”

Is Borrowing an Option?

However, if you’re taking out a low-interest loan against your assets to keep money in the bank or in stocks, with little risk — and you know your investment value isn’t likely to drop — you could increase your returns and avoid capital gains taxes.

It’s always smart to consult with a financial planner before leveraging or selling assets, especially if you are approaching retirement age and want to invest conservatively.

Borrow Against Your Life Insurance

Likewise, you can borrow against a life insurance policy, leaving your other investments untouched for the future.

But there are a few caveats, according to finance experts.

Jennifer Burnham-Grubbs — founder/CEO of Quantum Insurance Services and co-founder of Womxn of Wealth (WOW) — said choosing the right policy is key. She advised avoiding variable life insurance policies, since they are risky. She also recommended avoiding whole life policies, since the interest rates can be high and they are difficult to leverage.

“It’s usually better to use an indexed universal life policy with competitive loan rates if one plans on borrowing money from one’s cash value,” Burnham-Grubbs said.

Additionally, she advised: “It’s ultra important to use an experienced, ethical insurance broker — not an agent, who is tied to one single carrier — but a broker who works with all the ‘A’ rated carriers and can shop the entire market to get clients the best possible rates.”

As with borrowing against a home, you want to make sure you’ve accumulated enough equity in the investment first. “You shouldn’t really start to take loans until at least year five of a policy, so the cash inside the policy has enough time to accumulate,” Burnham-Grubbs said.

Consult With a Financial Expert

Borrowing against assets or life insurance to keep cash in the bank or earn money could be a risky move, especially if you can’t repay the loan. Plus, it’s important to consult with a financial advisor to help you choose the right products for these kinds of money moves.

“There are many, many other nuances to using a cash value life insurance policy properly,” Burnham-Grubbs said. It’s important to lean on financial professionals who understand your specific situation and offer targeted guidance if you feel this could be a strategy that will enhance your financial well-being now and in the future.

A restaurateur learned the hard way not to mess with Lauren Sánchez

  • NYC restaurateur Keith McNally insulted Lauren Sánchez in an apparently unprompted Instagram post.
  • Celebrities defended Sánchez, an Emmy-winning former news anchor and fiancée of Jeff Bezos.
  • This is not McNally's first controversy. He's also insulted James Corden and Adele on Instagram.

Insider Today

Restaurateur Keith McNally, who's no stranger to controversial Instagram posts , has made a habit out of insulting celebrities. And his latest target is Lauren Sánchez , the fiancée of one of the most powerful people in the world, Jeff Bezos.

But with some major heavyweights in her corner, Sánchez has the upper hand.

McNally, who owns more than a dozen restaurants including NYC's famed Balthazar, wrote a seemingly out-of-the-blue Instagram post attacking Sánchez and Bezos on Monday.

"Does anybody else find Jeff Bezos' New wife — Lauren Sanchez — ABSOLUTELY REVOLTING?" he wrote in the original post, accompanied by a series of pictures of the couple, according to The Cut. "What an ugly and Fucking SMUG - LOOKING couple they make. Is this what having 1000 Billion dollars does to people?"

McNally's post was later edited , though, as of Friday, it read: "What a Bizarre-looking couple. Is this what having 1000 billion dollars does to people?"

But before McNally watered down his insults, Sánchez's reputation proved she was not to be trifled with.

Scores of celebrities rushed to defend Sanchez, also an actress, pilot, philanthropist, and founder of an aerial filming company. Her relationship with Bezos became public after Bezos' divorce from MacKenzie Scott in 2019. Since then, the two have been pictured in the throes of unabashed fun, often aboard Bezos' $500-million yacht , as Sánchez's reputation as a mover-and-shaker attracts a growing rank of diehard fans .

Chrissy Teigen commented on McNally's post, writing, "She's actually incredibly dynamic, accomplished and kind, and everyone who knows her would say the same."

Jessica Seinfeld, who's married to Jerry Seinfeld, wrote in a since-deleted post, "This post is a reflection of your twisted, pitiful, and hideous mind. Lauren has twice the character you do," according to The Cut .

And MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle commented that Sánchez is "accomplished, kind, smart and loved," adding that McNally's post was "mean for no reason," The Cut reported.

Though Sánchez herself has not directly reacted to McNally's insults, she did follow them with a few Instagram Stories calling for kindness.

Related stories

In a Story posted on Tuesday, which is no longer viewable, Sánchez shared a quote that read, "People will love you. People will hate you. And none of it will have anything to do with you," according to The Independent .

Sánchez also shared a quote attributed to fashion designer Rachel Zoe. "Lead with kindness, root for other people, cheer for those you love. Just honestly wish everyone the best," it read, according to The Independent.

Representatives for McNally and Sánchez did not immediately respond to Business Insider's request for comment.

If his edited-down post is any indication, McNally sure learned the hard way not to mess with Sánchez, or her famous friends.

But, this is not McNally's first rodeo — the restaurant owner has insulted other big names in recent years too, some more warranted than others.

In 2022, McNally had an infamous beef with TV personality and host of "The Late Late Show," James Corden.

McNally accused Corden of being abusive to his staff at Balthazar on two occasions, saying that during one visit to the SoHo hotspot Corden yelled "like crazy" at servers and in another visit, was "nasty" to the restaurant manager. McNally called Corden a "tiny Cretin of a man" on Instagram and said Corden was banned from the restaurant.

But, McNally said that after Corden had called and "apologized profusely," he would be allowed back.

However, the beef didn't stop there. Corden told The New York Times a few days later that he didn't do anything wrong, leading McNally to strike back. In another Instagram screed, McNally mocked Corden's acting skills, insulted his fanbase, and urged him to admit wrongdoing.

The issue appeared to die down after Corden later apologized on-air.

Megastar Adele has also been the subject of McNally's disdain, which in her case, appeared to be unprompted.

In 2023, McNally attacked the singer-songwriter on Instagram , calling her appearance on Corden's "Carpool Karaoke" segment "profoundly inauthentic," "sickening," and "HORSE SHIT."

He wrote that Adele's "make-up was so hideously overdone and fingernails so long she resembled a particularly scary Cruella de Vil."

Our advice to McNally? Maybe stay off Instagram.

Can I make changes to my reservation?

As long as your reservation still allows changes, click on the link on your confirmation email to make changes to your booking. You will be able to make the changes and pay for any price difference as prices are subject to change and then confirm them on the confirmation page.

How do I find my driver at the Airport?

Most drivers will wait for you at the Airport's arrivals hall with a sign with your name on it. You will also have the driver’s phone number to reach out in case of an emergency. Please read the pickup instructions on your confirmation email carefully.

How do I cancel my reservation?

You can cancel your booking in two clicks! We know that sometimes your plans change, so we've tried to make it easy for you to cancel, in case you need to. As long as it's before the provider's cancellation cut-off* (differs by provider, usually 24 hours or less), you can just click on the cancellation link in your confirmation email.

My Flight is Delayed, do I need to change my reservation?

Sorry your flight's delayed! On the bright side, as long as your flight number has not changed from you what you originally informed us, all of our private transport providers and many of our shared ride providers will monitor flight status, so whenever your flight lands, they'll be there to pick you up. We'll make sure you're not delayed any more than you already are - we've got you covered.

For an airport pickup, how far after I land should I ask to get picked up?

To make things easy for you, we provide a recommended pickup time. Typically, we recommend 30-40 minutes if you have luggage, though if you have only a carry-on 20 minutes may be enough. If you're flying internationally, we recommend adding another 30-60 minutes for getting through customs. We also recommend calling the driver once you land to inform them that you have arrived, so they know to expect you soon.

What is the meaning of the COVID-19 Prepared Label? How are you handling the current health crisis?

With your safety in mind, we've asked our providers what measures they're taking in order to provide services in the safest way possible. Local providers who comply with at least two of the below safety measures have been marked with the "COVID-19 Prepared" label: Drivers use a face mask, carry sanitizing wipes in the vehicle, sanitize the back seats after each and every trip, and provide hand sanitizer during the ride. While most of these practices were already in place before this situation evolved, we want you to be as safe as possible while getting to your destination.

Can I make a stop on the way to the hotel/airport?

Private rides may be able to accommodate an additional stop on the way to your final destination as long as you request it with enough time for the local provider to be able to plan accordingly. Please make sure you specify you will need to make a stop along your route on the Special Instructions field right before you confirm your booking. Please bear in mind, additional charges may apply. Since you share with other passengers, shared rides do not often allow for additional stops.
