We were recommended this restaurant by the guide on one of our tours out of Dubrovnik. It was a good recommendation. Before we made a table reservation for an evening meal, we went to the restaurant to look it over and check out the menu.... We liked what we saw so made a reservation. I was not convinced that the reservation would be honoured as the person that took it did it on the fly with just our surname and time, he did not write it down but carried on serving tables. We returned to the restaurant that evening and were met by another waiter who initially started to show us to a table. When we advised him we had made a reservation, he checked with another waiter and showed us to a wonderful table that was reserved right at the edge of the water with a stunning view. The food menu was brought as was the wine menu. We had chosen our menu choices earlier in the day so I concentrated on the wine menu trying to work out what would be a good wine choice. Our waiter came over and offered his help which we took and he came back with a great choice that was a locally produced white that went really well with our food choice. I had the local oysters as a starter which were excellent and my wife had the fish soup. We then shared the Riblja Plata for 2, this was a fish platter that contained two portions of Sea Bass fillet, Tuna, Squid and shell on Prawns with some cabbage and potatoes. I can put away a lot of food, but this platter was enormous and could easily be shared by three people. The food was fresh and cooked well. We also had desert. The bill at the end of the evening, came to just less than 1000 Kuna which was somewhat less than I was expecting for such a lovely meal in a great location. Some previous reviews have not been complementary of the staff and service, I do not share their views, the restaurant was quite busy while we were there on a Wednesday night with lots of groups of people, mostly local, meeting up for a meal. This did mean that we had to attract the attention of the waiter when we wanted something, but that was not a problem as he usually came straight over once he had finished serving another table. I would return to this restaurant if I am in Dubrovnik. More

This was easily the best meal we have had in years - in fact we came here twice in one week it was so good. The staff were brilliant so attentive and engaging .definitely recommend booking to secure a table as the summer season starts... to get busier. The location is beautiful by the harbour and seeing the natural evening light change colour is wonderful. We had Calamari , Mussels , seafood pasta and seafood Risotto and a lovely bottle of local wine total bill £90. We never felt rushed and the staff were happy to make suggestions and chat about local produce. The Mussels were superb as was the Risotto , portions can we quite big so some dishes we shared. All in all it was truly wonderful and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and will definitely return . More

We had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant and were excited to have dinner there. When we arrived we were greeted, but the waiter walked off with the menus towards a group of people walking towards us. It was too narrow for... us to pass and he did not attempt to indicate to us to go with him. The service at the table was reasonable, but very surly and no smiles or small talk. I had the Orsan risotto to start which was incredibly delicious, but the mussels for main course were very small, salty and approximately one third were fully closed and therefore inedible. My husband had the steak and it was fatty and tough to cut. It was very busy and the staff seemed to be friendly to local diners but not to us as tourists. It’s a beautiful setting but did not meet our expectations sadly. Will not return More

We ordered a grilled fish plate with white fish, tuna and octopus. The white fish was very tasteful but as soon as we tried the tuna steak, we knew there was something wrong. We’re afraid the fish wasn’t fresh at all. We explained the situation... to the waiter, she immediately denied it and she started to get angry. More

The food and service definitely do not live up to the beautiful location. The restaurant on a warm evening looks magical when you arrive, right on the harbour edge. But that is really the only great thing about it. The service was very slow -it... took 30 minutes to be offered a menu or even a glass of water. The managers have obviously not employed enough waiters, to increase profits. The food lacked flavour - my grilled squid was well cooked but incredibly plain and dry. By far the worst was my wife’s food as she is a vegetarian. Her “vegetable platter” was so bad it was like they wanted to punish her for daring to not eat meat. Some dry lettuce, some incredibly bitter aubergines, some cherry tomatoes (some briefly cooked, some cold from the fridge) and a spoonful of rice that is used as a side for many other dishes. You can imagine the chefs laughing behind their hands as it is sent out. It was beyond awful. Croatian restaurants sadly seem to be stuck in about 1995 when it comes to vegetarians (wait til they hear about vegans!!). There are millions of them with dollars/Euros to spend guys! Even making the tiniest effort would be an improvement. The location of this restaurant (which is lovely) is really wasted on the people who run it. It felt like we had been taken for fools. More

Expected a lot from this place but was seriously disappointed. One star for location. Food is overpriced, service is slow but not as slow as the kitchen. 45 minutes after ordering the appetizer showed up: boiled mussels with the most basic of seasonings. Still no... sign of the kids' food: grilled chicken with french fries and spaghetti with tomato sauce. After 15 more minutes those finally arrived and the chicken turned out to be the best dish of the evening. Spaghetti was revoltingly sweet. 10 more minutes and we got our grilled octopus and tuna steak. Octopus was decent but while the tuna was grilled perfectly it was so salty that I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Bringing the bill also took around 15 minutes for our waitress. Best part of the evening was a tiny bowl of complimentary olives. Complete waste of €86, avoid if you can. More

Staying at Hilton Dubrovnik, and last night while shopping at Art Go Den for bags, the shop owner recommended this restaurant for its seafood and claimed to know the restaurant owner and suggested we have lunch there for its quality of food and ambiance. He... called the "owner" and set us up for today's lunch. This morning we called the restaurant and enquired on parking availability for us to drive or go by Uber. Reached the restaurant and were met by an elderly lady who appeared Supervisor type. She asked if we had an appointment and for the next 5-7 minutes, she kept showing us her register that there was no reservation. Her serious looks and dogged desire that reservation had to be found made my wife finally ask her to just let us know if she had seating for three of us (as the restaurant was not even 40 pct full.) She then relented but with a fierce look and smirk on her face doubting the "reservation”and her colleague was uttered something in Croatian and we were taken to a table in the burning sun and seated there. The insulting and atrocious behaviour of the supervisor was unacceptable, even if we had showed up without "reservation". The food was good but we finished it fast before the sun would bake us, and left the restaurant with a bitter taste. More

We came here for dinner on our last night inwonderful Dubrovnik and were really looking forward to a great meal but left very disappointed. It's a lovely spot but let down by so-so food and indifferent service. We arrived and ordered a gin and tonic... to have while we looked at the menu. There's a compulsorycover charge of bread an olives which were v nice but rather annoying to have to pay five quid for them regardless of whether we wanted them or not. We asked about the house wine and thefriendly but rather peristtent waiter made a point of trying (successfully) to get us to order the local one which was more than twice the price. Our oysters and seabass carpaccio cold starters arrived when we'd barely started the gin and tonics. Oysters nice but they were just that - no choice of dressing or garnish , seabass was very thickly sliced and drowned in sundried tomatoes. Mains were ok but no more than ok - andthis is an expensive restaurant. Underseasoned, underwhelming and not done with a great deal of care. More persistent selling on more expensive wine and yet we waited ages for our plates to be cleared when we had finished. We had two starters, two mainsand fur glasses of wine and came away £100 lighter. Such a shame as we have had some anaing meals in Croatia but this was the most expensive and the least exciting More

The food was fresh and well grilled, but slightly tastless and primitive. We are unshure if we are spoiled or is it just the cuisine that hasnt that good seafood tradition. Another unpleasant surprise was couvert fee - a waiter brought some bread and olives... and we were charged 10 euros for it, 25 kun per person. He didnt ask us if we want it. We did some reading around it and generaly they should ask us if we want it before bringing it. Also I observed a waiter fishing something out of the wine glass with his fingers and serving it to a customer… so they try to be fancy a la carte but reality is not that great. Also only male staff made me wonder if it has discriminating hiring policy… More

Having made a reservation in the morning for that evenings dinner service and to be told we did not have a reservation was very disapionting. We made our reservation with a member of staff who was on duty who agreed the time and checked the... spelling of our name. However, turning up for dinner were told there was no reservation in our name and they were fully booked. Most anoying was it was left to a very young greeter to deal with. No supervisor or manager was interested. We followed a family of four who had made and email confirmed reservation, they were told they had no reservation. Obviuosly they are not interested in providing a service. Not worth visiting More

A recommendation from a local was all it took to make my way to Orsan. Set on the shore of the yacht club, watching the night draw in with the lilliputian bobbing armada gently pulling at their lines, desperate for their next foray into the... blue Adriatic sea. A warm tuna pasta as starter followed by lamb chops were simply devine although the starter was a main in itself. A lemon tart completed the gastronomic ensemble. Blcack risoto, seafood risoto with a perfect taste, staff is polite and knowlegable about the recomendations. Ambient in marina is lovely. Chocolate cube is very balanced desert with a nice cinamon touch

During our stay at Dubrovnik, this choice of a restaurant was a terrible decision. The restaurant itself is pretty and it offers a nice view but we expected more. The restaurant was overpriced and the staff was very rude. I would recommend avoiding it. There... are plenty of other great fish restaurants in this destination where the staff can behave. More

This place is extremely popular with locals which is always a godo sign. They have a special, very inexpensive menu between 12noon and 2pm when most people come. The choice is great and the food really tastes like home made.

To the manager at Orsan who was working lunch on September 23, you make me ashamed that I share the same nationality as you. You are an embarrassment to the country and the lovely people that work hard every day to ensure that visitors to... this absolutely beautiful country have a fantastic experience. You could use a lesson in hospitality which could help you in understanding that every person who walks through your doors deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. For whatever reason you decided we weren’t worthy of service or basic human decency. Apparently you don’t understand that your reputation is all you have to drive your business. You fluffed your feathers and behaved as if you own the world but you are just a little peon that needs to be be brought back to reality. My husband and I were vacationing in Croatia. He is Canadian and I was born here. I come back to CroatIa every year while my husband has only been here twice. Dubrovnik was our last stop of a 2 week vacation. Our dining experience to date across Croatia has exceeded all expectations until today. We arrived at Orsan for lunch and I asked the so called manager if he had a table available for two under the umbrellas. He said no and told me we can sit by the entrance if we want and then dismissed me and walked away. A few minutes later, a table became available and I asked a female server if we could sit there. She responded slightly less rudely that I need to wait for them to clean the table. A minute later the manager came up to me to tell me we could not have that table because it was a table for 4 and not for 2 and once again directed me to sit by the entrance which has zero appeal. We exchanged words and then we left. For clarity, I would have absolutely no problem if he had said to us that they were completely booked and had no tables available or if he had offered to have us wait a little while until a table for 2 became free but not only was that not the case, he treated us like we were a nuisance and were doing him a favour by dining there. We were happy to leave and spend our money elsewhere. We landed at boutique hotel Kazbec and had the most wonderful and kind server in a gorgeous garden setting. More

Great restaurant, excellent food and service!I had lunch with my friends, it was the most delicious fish plate we had in Dubrovnik and fine wine. Like the atmosphere- totally chill out by the pool. Will definitely visit again. Highly recommended!

Very nice vacation in Dubrovnik, as boat lover went to marina and have a nice walk and great launch by the pool, quiet friendly staff. Nice kids play ground area near by and free parking for 2 hours. Highly recomanded, really enjoy it.

Top place, five star service, food, wine&drinks selection...pool is great, great sun beds around. True enjoyment👌🙌

The setting is beautiful, but sadly the service was poor and the food just wasn’t good enough to equate to the pricing. Despite the Marina being full and having an amazing singer performing it was quiet which maybe should have been a warning sign.

Awful, tasteless, overcooked langoustines, called scampi here. No starch with it. Cerviche poor, didn't have the advertised ingredients. Black rice not nice. More

We were recommended this restaurant by the guide on one of our tours out of Dubrovnik. It was a good recommendation. Before we made a table reservation for an evening meal, we went to the restaurant to look it over and check out the menu.... We liked what we saw so made a reservation. I was not convinced that the reservation would be honoured as the person that took it did it on the fly with just our surname and time, he did not write it down but carried on serving tables. We returned to the restaurant that evening and were met by another waiter who initially started to show us to a table. When we advised him we had made a reservation, he checked with another waiter and showed us to a wonderful table that was reserved right at the edge of the water with a stunning view. The food menu was brought as was the wine menu. We had chosen our menu choices earlier in the day so I concentrated on the wine menu trying to work out what would be a good wine choice. Our waiter came over and offered his help which we took and he came back with a great choice that was a locally produced white that went really well with our food choice. I had the local oysters as a starter which were excellent and my wife had the fish soup. We then shared the Riblja Plata for 2, this was a fish platter that contained two portions of Sea Bass fillet, Tuna, Squid and shell on Prawns with some cabbage and potatoes. I can put away a lot of food, but this platter was enormous and could easily be shared by three people. The food was fresh and cooked well. We also had desert. The bill at the end of the evening, came to just less than 1000 Kuna which was somewhat less than I was expecting for such a lovely meal in a great location. Some previous reviews have not been complementary of the staff and service, I do not share their views, the restaurant was quite busy while we were there on a Wednesday night with lots of groups of people, mostly local, meeting up for a meal. This did mean that we had to attract the attention of the waiter when we wanted something, but that was not a problem as he usually came straight over once he had finished serving another table. I would return to this restaurant if I am in Dubrovnik. More

This was easily the best meal we have had in years - in fact we came here twice in one week it was so good. The staff were brilliant so attentive and engaging .definitely recommend booking to secure a table as the summer season starts... to get busier. The location is beautiful by the harbour and seeing the natural evening light change colour is wonderful. We had Calamari , Mussels , seafood pasta and seafood Risotto and a lovely bottle of local wine total bill £90. We never felt rushed and the staff were happy to make suggestions and chat about local produce. The Mussels were superb as was the Risotto , portions can we quite big so some dishes we shared. All in all it was truly wonderful and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and will definitely return . More

We had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant and were excited to have dinner there. When we arrived we were greeted, but the waiter walked off with the menus towards a group of people walking towards us. It was too narrow for... us to pass and he did not attempt to indicate to us to go with him. The service at the table was reasonable, but very surly and no smiles or small talk. I had the Orsan risotto to start which was incredibly delicious, but the mussels for main course were very small, salty and approximately one third were fully closed and therefore inedible. My husband had the steak and it was fatty and tough to cut. It was very busy and the staff seemed to be friendly to local diners but not to us as tourists. It’s a beautiful setting but did not meet our expectations sadly. Will not return More

We ordered a grilled fish plate with white fish, tuna and octopus. The white fish was very tasteful but as soon as we tried the tuna steak, we knew there was something wrong. We’re afraid the fish wasn’t fresh at all. We explained the situation... to the waiter, she immediately denied it and she started to get angry. More

The food and service definitely do not live up to the beautiful location. The restaurant on a warm evening looks magical when you arrive, right on the harbour edge. But that is really the only great thing about it. The service was very slow -it... took 30 minutes to be offered a menu or even a glass of water. The managers have obviously not employed enough waiters, to increase profits. The food lacked flavour - my grilled squid was well cooked but incredibly plain and dry. By far the worst was my wife’s food as she is a vegetarian. Her “vegetable platter” was so bad it was like they wanted to punish her for daring to not eat meat. Some dry lettuce, some incredibly bitter aubergines, some cherry tomatoes (some briefly cooked, some cold from the fridge) and a spoonful of rice that is used as a side for many other dishes. You can imagine the chefs laughing behind their hands as it is sent out. It was beyond awful. Croatian restaurants sadly seem to be stuck in about 1995 when it comes to vegetarians (wait til they hear about vegans!!). There are millions of them with dollars/Euros to spend guys! Even making the tiniest effort would be an improvement. The location of this restaurant (which is lovely) is really wasted on the people who run it. It felt like we had been taken for fools. More

Expected a lot from this place but was seriously disappointed. One star for location. Food is overpriced, service is slow but not as slow as the kitchen. 45 minutes after ordering the appetizer showed up: boiled mussels with the most basic of seasonings. Still no... sign of the kids' food: grilled chicken with french fries and spaghetti with tomato sauce. After 15 more minutes those finally arrived and the chicken turned out to be the best dish of the evening. Spaghetti was revoltingly sweet. 10 more minutes and we got our grilled octopus and tuna steak. Octopus was decent but while the tuna was grilled perfectly it was so salty that I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Bringing the bill also took around 15 minutes for our waitress. Best part of the evening was a tiny bowl of complimentary olives. Complete waste of €86, avoid if you can. More

Staying at Hilton Dubrovnik, and last night while shopping at Art Go Den for bags, the shop owner recommended this restaurant for its seafood and claimed to know the restaurant owner and suggested we have lunch there for its quality of food and ambiance. He... called the "owner" and set us up for today's lunch. This morning we called the restaurant and enquired on parking availability for us to drive or go by Uber. Reached the restaurant and were met by an elderly lady who appeared Supervisor type. She asked if we had an appointment and for the next 5-7 minutes, she kept showing us her register that there was no reservation. Her serious looks and dogged desire that reservation had to be found made my wife finally ask her to just let us know if she had seating for three of us (as the restaurant was not even 40 pct full.) She then relented but with a fierce look and smirk on her face doubting the "reservation”and her colleague was uttered something in Croatian and we were taken to a table in the burning sun and seated there. The insulting and atrocious behaviour of the supervisor was unacceptable, even if we had showed up without "reservation". The food was good but we finished it fast before the sun would bake us, and left the restaurant with a bitter taste. More

We came here for dinner on our last night inwonderful Dubrovnik and were really looking forward to a great meal but left very disappointed. It's a lovely spot but let down by so-so food and indifferent service. We arrived and ordered a gin and tonic... to have while we looked at the menu. There's a compulsorycover charge of bread an olives which were v nice but rather annoying to have to pay five quid for them regardless of whether we wanted them or not. We asked about the house wine and thefriendly but rather peristtent waiter made a point of trying (successfully) to get us to order the local one which was more than twice the price. Our oysters and seabass carpaccio cold starters arrived when we'd barely started the gin and tonics. Oysters nice but they were just that - no choice of dressing or garnish , seabass was very thickly sliced and drowned in sundried tomatoes. Mains were ok but no more than ok - andthis is an expensive restaurant. Underseasoned, underwhelming and not done with a great deal of care. More persistent selling on more expensive wine and yet we waited ages for our plates to be cleared when we had finished. We had two starters, two mainsand fur glasses of wine and came away £100 lighter. Such a shame as we have had some anaing meals in Croatia but this was the most expensive and the least exciting More

The food was fresh and well grilled, but slightly tastless and primitive. We are unshure if we are spoiled or is it just the cuisine that hasnt that good seafood tradition. Another unpleasant surprise was couvert fee - a waiter brought some bread and olives... and we were charged 10 euros for it, 25 kun per person. He didnt ask us if we want it. We did some reading around it and generaly they should ask us if we want it before bringing it. Also I observed a waiter fishing something out of the wine glass with his fingers and serving it to a customer… so they try to be fancy a la carte but reality is not that great. Also only male staff made me wonder if it has discriminating hiring policy… More

Having made a reservation in the morning for that evenings dinner service and to be told we did not have a reservation was very disapionting. We made our reservation with a member of staff who was on duty who agreed the time and checked the... spelling of our name. However, turning up for dinner were told there was no reservation in our name and they were fully booked. Most anoying was it was left to a very young greeter to deal with. No supervisor or manager was interested. We followed a family of four who had made and email confirmed reservation, they were told they had no reservation. Obviuosly they are not interested in providing a service. Not worth visiting More

A recommendation from a local was all it took to make my way to Orsan. Set on the shore of the yacht club, watching the night draw in with the lilliputian bobbing armada gently pulling at their lines, desperate for their next foray into the... blue Adriatic sea. A warm tuna pasta as starter followed by lamb chops were simply devine although the starter was a main in itself. A lemon tart completed the gastronomic ensemble. During our stay at Dubrovnik, this choice of a restaurant was a terrible decision. The restaurant itself is pretty and it offers a nice view but we expected more. The restaurant was overpriced and the staff was very rude. I would recommend avoiding it. There... are plenty of other great fish restaurants in this destination where the staff can behave. More

This place is extremely popular with locals which is always a godo sign. They have a special, very inexpensive menu between 12noon and 2pm when most people come. The choice is great and the food really tastes like home made.

To the manager at Orsan who was working lunch on September 23, you make me ashamed that I share the same nationality as you. You are an embarrassment to the country and the lovely people that work hard every day to ensure that visitors to... this absolutely beautiful country have a fantastic experience. You could use a lesson in hospitality which could help you in understanding that every person who walks through your doors deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. For whatever reason you decided we weren’t worthy of service or basic human decency. Apparently you don’t understand that your reputation is all you have to drive your business. You fluffed your feathers and behaved as if you own the world but you are just a little peon that needs to be be brought back to reality. My husband and I were vacationing in Croatia. He is Canadian and I was born here. I come back to CroatIa every year while my husband has only been here twice. Dubrovnik was our last stop of a 2 week vacation. Our dining experience to date across Croatia has exceeded all expectations until today. We arrived at Orsan for lunch and I asked the so called manager if he had a table available for two under the umbrellas. He said no and told me we can sit by the entrance if we want and then dismissed me and walked away. A few minutes later, a table became available and I asked a female server if we could sit there. She responded slightly less rudely that I need to wait for them to clean the table. A minute later the manager came up to me to tell me we could not have that table because it was a table for 4 and not for 2 and once again directed me to sit by the entrance which has zero appeal. We exchanged words and then we left. For clarity, I would have absolutely no problem if he had said to us that they were completely booked and had no tables available or if he had offered to have us wait a little while until a table for 2 became free but not only was that not the case, he treated us like we were a nuisance and were doing him a favour by dining there. We were happy to leave and spend our money elsewhere. We landed at boutique hotel Kazbec and had the most wonderful and kind server in a gorgeous garden setting. More

We were recommended this restaurant by the guide on one of our tours out of Dubrovnik. It was a good recommendation. Before we made a table reservation for an evening meal, we went to the restaurant to look it over and check out the menu.... We liked what we saw so made a reservation. I was not convinced that the reservation would be honoured as the person that took it did it on the fly with just our surname and time, he did not write it down but carried on serving tables. We returned to the restaurant that evening and were met by another waiter who initially started to show us to a table. When we advised him we had made a reservation, he checked with another waiter and showed us to a wonderful table that was reserved right at the edge of the water with a stunning view. The food menu was brought as was the wine menu. We had chosen our menu choices earlier in the day so I concentrated on the wine menu trying to work out what would be a good wine choice. Our waiter came over and offered his help which we took and he came back with a great choice that was a locally produced white that went really well with our food choice. I had the local oysters as a starter which were excellent and my wife had the fish soup. We then shared the Riblja Plata for 2, this was a fish platter that contained two portions of Sea Bass fillet, Tuna, Squid and shell on Prawns with some cabbage and potatoes. I can put away a lot of food, but this platter was enormous and could easily be shared by three people. The food was fresh and cooked well. We also had desert. The bill at the end of the evening, came to just less than 1000 Kuna which was somewhat less than I was expecting for such a lovely meal in a great location. Some previous reviews have not been complementary of the staff and service, I do not share their views, the restaurant was quite busy while we were there on a Wednesday night with lots of groups of people, mostly local, meeting up for a meal. This did mean that we had to attract the attention of the waiter when we wanted something, but that was not a problem as he usually came straight over once he had finished serving another table. I would return to this restaurant if I am in Dubrovnik. More

This was easily the best meal we have had in years - in fact we came here twice in one week it was so good. The staff were brilliant so attentive and engaging .definitely recommend booking to secure a table as the summer season starts... to get busier. The location is beautiful by the harbour and seeing the natural evening light change colour is wonderful. We had Calamari , Mussels , seafood pasta and seafood Risotto and a lovely bottle of local wine total bill £90. We never felt rushed and the staff were happy to make suggestions and chat about local produce. The Mussels were superb as was the Risotto , portions can we quite big so some dishes we shared. All in all it was truly wonderful and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it and will definitely return . More

We had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant and were excited to have dinner there. When we arrived we were greeted, but the waiter walked off with the menus towards a group of people walking towards us. It was too narrow for... us to pass and he did not attempt to indicate to us to go with him. The service at the table was reasonable, but very surly and no smiles or small talk. I had the Orsan risotto to start which was incredibly delicious, but the mussels for main course were very small, salty and approximately one third were fully closed and therefore inedible. My husband had the steak and it was fatty and tough to cut. It was very busy and the staff seemed to be friendly to local diners but not to us as tourists. It’s a beautiful setting but did not meet our expectations sadly. Will not return More

We ordered a grilled fish plate with white fish, tuna and octopus. The white fish was very tasteful but as soon as we tried the tuna steak, we knew there was something wrong. We’re afraid the fish wasn’t fresh at all. We explained the situation... to the waiter, she immediately denied it and she started to get angry. More

The food and service definitely do not live up to the beautiful location. The restaurant on a warm evening looks magical when you arrive, right on the harbour edge. But that is really the only great thing about it. The service was very slow -it... took 30 minutes to be offered a menu or even a glass of water. The managers have obviously not employed enough waiters, to increase profits. The food lacked flavour - my grilled squid was well cooked but incredibly plain and dry. By far the worst was my wife’s food as she is a vegetarian. Her “vegetable platter” was so bad it was like they wanted to punish her for daring to not eat meat. Some dry lettuce, some incredibly bitter aubergines, some cherry tomatoes (some briefly cooked, some cold from the fridge) and a spoonful of rice that is used as a side for many other dishes. You can imagine the chefs laughing behind their hands as it is sent out. It was beyond awful. Croatian restaurants sadly seem to be stuck in about 1995 when it comes to vegetarians (wait til they hear about vegans!!). There are millions of them with dollars/Euros to spend guys! Even making the tiniest effort would be an improvement. The location of this restaurant (which is lovely) is really wasted on the people who run it. It felt like we had been taken for fools. More

Expected a lot from this place but was seriously disappointed. One star for location. Food is overpriced, service is slow but not as slow as the kitchen. 45 minutes after ordering the appetizer showed up: boiled mussels with the most basic of seasonings. Still no... sign of the kids' food: grilled chicken with french fries and spaghetti with tomato sauce. After 15 more minutes those finally arrived and the chicken turned out to be the best dish of the evening. Spaghetti was revoltingly sweet. 10 more minutes and we got our grilled octopus and tuna steak. Octopus was decent but while the tuna was grilled perfectly it was so salty that I couldn't eat more than a few bites. Bringing the bill also took around 15 minutes for our waitress. Best part of the evening was a tiny bowl of complimentary olives. Complete waste of €86, avoid if you can. More

Staying at Hilton Dubrovnik, and last night while shopping at Art Go Den for bags, the shop owner recommended this restaurant for its seafood and claimed to know the restaurant owner and suggested we have lunch there for its quality of food and ambiance. He... called the "owner" and set us up for today's lunch. This morning we called the restaurant and enquired on parking availability for us to drive or go by Uber. Reached the restaurant and were met by an elderly lady who appeared Supervisor type. She asked if we had an appointment and for the next 5-7 minutes, she kept showing us her register that there was no reservation. Her serious looks and dogged desire that reservation had to be found made my wife finally ask her to just let us know if she had seating for three of us (as the restaurant was not even 40 pct full.) She then relented but with a fierce look and smirk on her face doubting the "reservation”and her colleague was uttered something in Croatian and we were taken to a table in the burning sun and seated there. The insulting and atrocious behaviour of the supervisor was unacceptable, even if we had showed up without "reservation". The food was good but we finished it fast before the sun would bake us, and left the restaurant with a bitter taste. More

We came here for dinner on our last night inwonderful Dubrovnik and were really looking forward to a great meal but left very disappointed. It's a lovely spot but let down by so-so food and indifferent service. We arrived and ordered a gin and tonic... to have while we looked at the menu. There's a compulsorycover charge of bread an olives which were v nice but rather annoying to have to pay five quid for them regardless of whether we wanted them or not. We asked about the house wine and thefriendly but rather peristtent waiter made a point of trying (successfully) to get us to order the local one which was more than twice the price. Our oysters and seabass carpaccio cold starters arrived when we'd barely started the gin and tonics. Oysters nice but they were just that - no choice of dressing or garnish , seabass was very thickly sliced and drowned in sundried tomatoes. Mains were ok but no more than ok - andthis is an expensive restaurant. Underseasoned, underwhelming and not done with a great deal of care. More persistent selling on more expensive wine and yet we waited ages for our plates to be cleared when we had finished. We had two starters, two mainsand fur glasses of wine and came away £100 lighter. Such a shame as we have had some anaing meals in Croatia but this was the most expensive and the least exciting More

The food was fresh and well grilled, but slightly tastless and primitive. We are unshure if we are spoiled or is it just the cuisine that hasnt that good seafood tradition. Another unpleasant surprise was couvert fee - a waiter brought some bread and olives... and we were charged 10 euros for it, 25 kun per person. He didnt ask us if we want it. We did some reading around it and generaly they should ask us if we want it before bringing it. Also I observed a waiter fishing something out of the wine glass with his fingers and serving it to a customer… so they try to be fancy a la carte but reality is not that great. Also only male staff made me wonder if it has discriminating hiring policy… More

Having made a reservation in the morning for that evenings dinner service and to be told we did not have a reservation was very disapionting. We made our reservation with a member of staff who was on duty who agreed the time and checked the... spelling of our name. However, turning up for dinner were told there was no reservation in our name and they were fully booked. Most anoying was it was left to a very young greeter to deal with. No supervisor or manager was interested. We followed a family of four who had made and email confirmed reservation, they were told they had no reservation. Obviuosly they are not interested in providing a service. Not worth visiting More

A recommendation from a local was all it took to make my way to Orsan. Set on the shore of the yacht club, watching the night draw in with the lilliputian bobbing armada gently pulling at their lines, desperate for their next foray into the... blue Adriatic sea. A warm tuna pasta as starter followed by lamb chops were simply devine although the starter was a main in itself. A lemon tart completed the gastronomic ensemble. Blcack risoto, seafood risoto with a perfect taste, staff is polite and knowlegable about the recomendations. Ambient in marina is lovely. Chocolate cube is very balanced desert with a nice cinamon touch

During our stay at Dubrovnik, this choice of a restaurant was a terrible decision. The restaurant itself is pretty and it offers a nice view but we expected more. The restaurant was overpriced and the staff was very rude. I would recommend avoiding it. There... are plenty of other great fish restaurants in this destination where the staff can behave. More

This place is extremely popular with locals which is always a godo sign. They have a special, very inexpensive menu between 12noon and 2pm when most people come. The choice is great and the food really tastes like home made.

To the manager at Orsan who was working lunch on September 23, you make me ashamed that I share the same nationality as you. You are an embarrassment to the country and the lovely people that work hard every day to ensure that visitors to... this absolutely beautiful country have a fantastic experience. You could use a lesson in hospitality which could help you in understanding that every person who walks through your doors deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. For whatever reason you decided we weren’t worthy of service or basic human decency. Apparently you don’t understand that your reputation is all you have to drive your business. You fluffed your feathers and behaved as if you own the world but you are just a little peon that needs to be be brought back to reality. My husband and I were vacationing in Croatia. He is Canadian and I was born here. I come back to CroatIa every year while my husband has only been here twice. Dubrovnik was our last stop of a 2 week vacation. Our dining experience to date across Croatia has exceeded all expectations until today. We arrived at Orsan for lunch and I asked the so called manager if he had a table available for two under the umbrellas. He said no and told me we can sit by the entrance if we want and then dismissed me and walked away. A few minutes later, a table became available and I asked a female server if we could sit there. She responded slightly less rudely that I need to wait for them to clean the table. A minute later the manager came up to me to tell me we could not have that table because it was a table for 4 and not for 2 and once again directed me to sit by the entrance which has zero appeal. We exchanged words and then we left. For clarity, I would have absolutely no problem if he had said to us that they were completely booked and had no tables available or if he had offered to have us wait a little while until a table for 2 became free but not only was that not the case, he treated us like we were a nuisance and were doing him a favour by dining there. We were happy to leave and spend our money elsewhere. We landed at boutique hotel Kazbec and had the most wonderful and kind server in a gorgeous garden setting. More

Community reels from birthday party tragedy at boat club that left 2 kids dead

A mourner quietly placed a bouquet of cellophane-wrapped flowers on a folding chair Sunday morning outside the Swan Boat Club in Monroe County's Berlin Township, where just the day before police say chaos unfolded when a suspected drunken driver slammed her SUV through a wall.

Inside the building, a young child’s birthday party had been taking place.

In an instant, two children — a brother and sister, ages 5 and 8 — were dead and about a dozen other people, including several other children, were critically injured. Among those hospitalized Sunday were the mother of the two dead children and their older brother.

The 66-year-old woman who was driving the SUV is being held in the Monroe County Jail for suspicion of driving while intoxicated causing death, a 15-year felony. Police said there could be additional charges as the investigation continues.

"It’s so sad," said Paul Schmidt, 46, who lives next to the club and witnessed the aftermath of the crash. Speaking to a reporter Sunday morning, he noted that the scene was so horrific that even "the cop was throwing up in the yard."

A GoFundMe fundraising account , linked at the club's website , was set up to defray funeral and burial expenses for the children, identified in the account only by their first names as 5-year-old "Zayn" and 8-year-old "Lana" and to help their mother, "Mariah," and older brother, "Jayden," with medical expenses.  

Within hours, tens of thousands of dollars had been raised. By late Sunday evening, donations topped $100,000.

The club — at 6332 Brancheau Road, about 30 minutes southwest of Detroit — was closed Sunday, the result, the private club said on Facebook, of the "terrible accident" with many injuries and much damage.

Schmidt — who had recorded on cell phone videos the SUV driving past his home and the 3 p.m. crash ― said some of the footage was too graphic to share with the public. He estimated the driver, who he said lives near the club, appeared be going 40 mph or more.

The more graphic recordings, which he played for the Free Press, showed a room set up for a party, decorated with colorful banners and balloons. Some of the youngsters ― who, Schmidt said ― appeared to have been lining up for cake.

The crash left a large hole in the wall and the sound of the impact could be heard several houses down the gravel road. It was followed by the screams of children, parents and grandparents. The adults, in a panic, scooped up crying toddlers, trying to scurry to safety.

The two siblings were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The other victims were rushed by ambulances and two medical helicopters for treatment at area hospitals.

Arraignment possible Monday

By Sunday, the hole in the wall, where the SUV smashed through, had been boarded up, but the yellow police caution tape, twisted metal siding, debris and discarded medical supplies, like blue latex gloves and bandages, were strewn about in the dirt.

A bounce house, which had been set up for the party, had been deflated.

The name of the SUV driver was not released. She was taken to the Monroe County Jail, where, authorities said, she is expected to be held until she can be arraigned.

Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies, one of whom was still investigating the scene Sunday, told the Free Press the name of the suspect or more details of the crash, such as her blood alcohol level, would not be released until after an arraignment, which was unlikely until Monday.

At a late Saturday night press conference, Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough’s voice quavered as he spoke to reporters, appearing to be fighting back tears as he read a statement. The vehicle, he said, slammed into the north wall, moving fast enough to go about 25 feet inside the building until it stopped.

It was, the sheriff said, as he described the scene that first responders saw, "extremely chaotic and with high level of emotions of those directly involved and those who witnessed this horrific incident." At least 15 people, including adults, were injured.

The sheriff said that nine people, three of them children, were driven by ambulances and airlifted by two medical helicopters to area hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Several other less seriously injured people, the sheriff added, were rushed away by nonemergency vehicles.

Multiple agencies from three counties scrambled to reach the scene and try to provide aid.

Neighbors near the boat club said that before slamming into the birthday celebration, it appeared that the SUV also had hit — or backed into — a small pine tree and a Ford F-150 pickup, damaging the front end, and crashing into it with such force it pushed it back at least a dozen feet, causing it to knock over a wooden fence.

Ed Wedderski, 72, said he and his son, who owns the silver pickup, heard the SUV hit the truck — and then crash through the wall.

Wedderski said he knows the suspect, who is a neighbor and has lived in the area for decades. He said he never had problems with her, calling her "the nicest person," who generally drove slowly.

A drink at Verna's Tavern

Before the suspect apparently crashed into the pickup and club, the sheriff had said Saturday, it's believed she had been at a Newport watering hole, Verna’s Tavern, which deputies briefly closed as part of the crash investigation.

"We went in, we shut the business down," Goodnough said Saturday, when pressed whether the tavern would be facing police scrutiny. "We are in the process of executing a search warrant for information as to the business conducted at that day."

Sunday, the tavern had reopened.

When asked by the Free Press what happened, workers at Verna's on Sunday declined to comment.

Angie Huffman — who said in an email to the Free Press that her mother owns the establishment, and Verna was her great-grandma — confirmed the police suspect was at the eatery at 11 a.m., had a glass of wine and a bowl of soup, adding that she's confident the investigation will show the restaurant is "not at fault."

"She left before noon and was completely sober," Huffman said of the suspect. "We understand the need for an investigation and we are cooperating with the police. We offered to give them anything they needed. The sheriff wanted a search warrant."

Huffman added: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved. Our town will never be the same."

In a sad twist, the area where the tragedy unfolded has long been a place to enjoy life.

The boat club, which sits in the shadow of the DTE Fermi II nuclear plant was started in the 1940s as a place for boating enthusiasts on Swan Creek to meet to play cards, have a beer and kickback, mostly during the hot summer months, has faced its share good and bad times over the years. It is just off Lake Erie.

The club, in its early years thrived, its website suggested.

The club history boasted of hosting "great regattas," "snow mobile races" and "famous chicken dinners," which it still offers. At one time it’s membership even included Michigan’s governor, the late G. Mennen (Soapy) Williams.

In the '70s, the club website said, its membership dropped to less than 50 members.

But since then, the club — which now also offers dockage for more than 125 member boats up to 40 feet long — said its numbers were rebounding and was "sound and prosperous with a card-carrying membership of over 250."

Neighbors, like Schmidt, said he doesn’t know what will happen to the club now.

A community grieves

Through much of Sunday afternoon, many in the Monroe County communities affected by the tragedy were flyspecking the news for more clues to how the deadly crash happened and grieving the loss of the young children.

At the Burger King in Newport, about a couple of miles from the tavern where the suspect may have been, employees shared details with each other about what they knew about the incident — and traded other stories about terrible wrecks.

Alana Laughery, 31, said she was shocked.

"It’s absolutely tragic," she said of the crash, adding that she has a 5-year-old son. "As the day goes on you hear more and more and it just gets worse and worse as more people are affected by this. Even the kids who weren’t physically injured will have to live with these memories of this traumatic event."

She said that she just couldn’t comprehend how the kids and parents must feel.

"I can’t imagine this happening," she said. "I can’t imagine going out for a day to celebrate and something out of your control happens. You think you are in a safe place, surrounded by walls — and the next thing you know, you’re underneath a vehicle."

She said that she could not imagine the horror that families had to go through.

"Did she sit there?" Laughery asked herself, trying to picture the driver after she went through the wall. "Did she move the car? Did anyone attempt to move the car? How did the victims get out? How long were they there? How horrific!"

And, Laughery also asked: "How can we keep this from happening again?"
