andrea VI luxury yacht panoramic

Superyacht Andrea VI - Horizon's first RP110 yacht is tailored for her experienced owners

By the time most owners get around to building their sixth boat, they know exactly what they want it to look like inside and out, what equipment it should carry, how it should perform and where it should be capable of voyaging. That was certainly the case with the American couple who own the very first Horizon RP110 superyacht, Andrea VI. Both husband and wife were involved in every aspect of their new yacht’s design, right down to the colour of the deck caulking (grey – an unusual choice that wound up looking great).

‘We always believe the owners are the best designers,’ says John Lu, Horizon Group CEO. His yard’s willingness to listen to owners’ design ideas, offer multiple layouts for semi-custom models and accommodate changes beyond those GAs, has given Horizon an edge in the fibreglass yacht building market over less flexible competitors.

‘It’s fun to work on the details,’ says the husband half of the owning couple. This is the second yacht they have built with the Horizon yard – the first was a 25 metre launched in 2007 – and their enthusiasm for the process clearly hasn’t waned. ‘There’s nothing these people won’t do,’ he says. The couple decided to move up to a larger yacht to have more room for family on board. They selected Horizon’s brand new (33.5 metre) Raised Pilothouse 110 model, based on the drawings the shipyard had developed in collaboration with designer JC Espinosa and naval architect Donald L Blount.

‘Horizon had plans for the 110, but it had never been built,’ the husband says. ‘The design is very contemporary, but it had to be seaworthy because we really use the boat.’ He adds, ‘This boat ended up with a shallower draught than even the 82 – that’s a bonus.’

Blount’s hull design, which has a 1.8 metre draught and incorporates a double chine to optimise seakeeping ability in rough conditions, satisfied all the owners’ requirements. The yacht was constructed without an ounce of weight wasted thanks to Horizon’s high-tech SCRIMP cored lamination process. Next, the shipyard subjected the hull to its new NDT process, using ultrasonic testing to measure its thickness and lock-in thermography to scan the inner hull for any hidden voids or defects. The result is a high quality, highly consistent hull form offering excellent performance. In fact, while Horizon reports a top speed of 22 to 23 knots for the RP110 when powered by twin 1,935hp Caterpillar C32A ACERT diesels (the upgrade propulsion package specified by Andrea VI’s owners), her captain says he has seen her run as fast as 24 knots, fully loaded, at full rpm.

Horizon offers numerous layouts for the RP110, starting with the choice between a five-suite plan with a main-deck master or a four-suite version with a country kitchen and a full-beam master on the lower deck._ Andrea VI’s_ owners opted for the latter GA, which not only allows them to enjoy meals in the galley, but also offers more storage space to support the long-distance cruising they like to do. ‘We worked with JC Espinosa and found a lot of storage that wasn’t there to begin with,’ the husband says.

While the Horizon RP110 comes with a rear tender garage as standard, the owners replaced it with spacious crew quarters. ‘We sacrificed the garage. We didn’t mind. We wanted [the crew] to be happy,’ the husband says. ‘The whole key to boating, I can say in two words: good crew.’

The wife says their design goal for the interior was, ‘To produce a Nantucket beach house on the water; everything light and open.’ To translate this to the nautical realm, she hired interior designer Marty A Lowe to help her. ‘At boat shows, I would see a room I liked, and every time I asked who did it, the answer was “Marty Lowe”,’ she says.

No room-dividing cabinets or partitions break the flow in the public rooms aboard Andrea VI . Long, whitewashed oak flooring planks lead the eye forward through the uncluttered rooms and down airy companionways. Whitewashed oak cabinetry with a smooth satin finish, accented by fabric wall coverings and leather upholstery in relaxing hues of white, linen and beige, provide a neutral backdrop to the stunning views seen through Espinosa’s huge, frameless windows. There is nothing aboard this yacht to distract the eye from the water around it, which is entirely the point.

Andrea VI’s L-shaped open-designed galley/country kitchen, in particular, ‘took a tremendous amount of time to make it feel like home. We hang out in the galley a lot’, the wife says, adding, ‘We put an emphasis on storage and freezer space.’ Most of the galley appliances are by Miele, but a large Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer also are in the dining area, both with oak doors that help them blend seamlessly into the room’s décor. The chef has a second refrigerator by the range to hold staples.

The impact of the owners’ refined taste and cruising savvy is evident throughout the yacht’s interior. ‘We looked at it inch by inch,’ the husband says. ‘We had input into every room.’ But it is the exterior decks that really bear their personal stamp. Rather than putting a dining table on the aft main deck, for example, they chose to install a large wraparound sofa, creating a chic exterior space for greeting and entertaining guests. ‘Our idea was to make it like the lobby of the W Hotel,’ the wife says.

The flybridge is their real masterpiece, however. ‘When you walk up the steps, it’s all view,’ says the husband. The forward portion is protected by a hardtop that supports huge, transparent ‘canvas’ panels custom-designed by EZ2CY to enclose the deck on three sides. The two side panels each are about six metres in length, making them the largest continuous panels the vendor has ever manufactured. Horizon cut a track for the panels’ bottom zippers into the stainless steel side rails – a first for the shipyard. When the canvas is up, the owners and captain can enjoy cruising in air-conditioned comfort with near 360-degree views of the water. ‘We spend a lot of time on the flybridge,’ the husband says. ‘We designed it to withstand the weather. It allows you to live outside.’

As she has no garage, the yacht’s 4.9 metre Williams tender is stored on the flybridge aft. (The husband likes the fact that his diesel-powered tender means the yacht doesn’t have to carry petrol.) When the tender is in the water, the owners can use the deck for sunbathing. Although a spa pool is standard on the RP110, they decided against one on their boat. ‘If our family wants to jump in the water, they just jump in from the swim platform,’ the husband says.

Crew quarters have the same level of fit and finish as the owner and guest areas, a Horizon hallmark. The pilothouse’s whitewashed oak helm console and flooring, along with its leather-and-stainless sofas, make this an elegant inner sanctum where captain and owners can watch the water through more than 180 degrees of wraparound windows.

The aft crew quarters accommodate up to five in two bunkrooms linked by a ‘Jack-and-Jill’ head, along with an en suite captain’s cabin. The woodwork and furnishings here are finished to the same standard as the rest of the yacht; the only concession to practicality is the vinyl ‘faux wood’ flooring, which takes the crew less time to maintain.

Andrea celebrates 21st birthday with fun, intimate yacht party

Mary ann bardinas march 18, 2024 10:45 pm.

Andrea 21st yacht birthday party

Last March 12, Senior High  star Andrea Brillantes marked her 21 st  birthday! And to celebrate this special milestone, she decided to throw a fun, intimate yacht party attended by her beloved family and her closest friends, which she shared in her latest vlog.

According to her, she and her girlfriends were supposed to be in Las Vegas, Nevada for her birthday escapade, but her visa didn’t come right in time because she opted to attend Taylor Swift’s concert in Tokyo, Japan last February.

Andrea made the whole place shimmer in a mini fuchsia pink dress that she paired with a tiara, a pair of pearl drop earrings, and cute sunglasses – a mesmerizing look she revealed was actually inspired by a meme.

Among those who were present at her party were her Mommy Belle and his siblings Kayla Aan, Nina, and Kismet, and friends Kyle Echarri, Bianca de Vera, Bea Borres, Danica Ongtengco, and Ashley del Mundo.

At night, there was a splendid fireworks display and a wild karaoke and dance session while aboard the yacht, which everyone apparently enjoyed! Thus, Andrea conveyed in the outro of her vlog how happy and satisfied she was with everything that happened at her birthday fete.

She also didn’t forget to thank everyone who took the time to greet her, send her presents, and watch this vlog.

“ Sa lahat po ng nag -greet sa akin sa  birthday ko , thank you so much. Sa lahat ng nanood ng  vlog ko , thank you so much. Sana po nag -enjoy kayo. At sa mga nanonood pa ng mga  vlogs ko simula noong  18 ako , thank you po sa inyo . I love you all so much. And I’m finally 21. I can’t believe, tumantanda na ako. Ito na talaga , adulthood begins now!” she enthused.

She completely capped off the vlog by giving a shout-out to all her friends who came to celebrate with her despite the very short notice.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .

‘Total Disgrace’: Anger, Frustration as Mass Heating Failures Across Russia Leave Thousands in the Cold

P ODOLSK, Moscow region – Residents throughout Russia affected by unprecedented winter heating outages in recent days have expressed their frustration and urged local authorities to restore heating in their homes.

In Podolsk, a town some 30 kilometers south of the capital Moscow, at least 149,000 residents — nearly half of its population — were left without heating when a heating main burst at a nearby private ammunition plant.

“It’s a total disgrace. There is no heating and no hot water. We have to sleep in sleeping bags,” Yuri, a local resident, told The Moscow Times.

“I have no words to describe how bad the situation is," said Yuri, who declined to provide his surname. "We have had no heating for almost six days."

Heating issues have affected residents in the Moscow region, where temperatures have plunged to as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius in the past week, as well as people in the Far East Primorye region , the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg , Penza , the southern Voronezh and Volgograd regions and more.

In the Tver region, a group of residents filmed an appeal to President Vladimir Putin, saying that they “are freezing from the cold” in the village of Novozavidovsky.

“We're literally being killed by the cold,” a woman in the video said, adding that they have been sending requests to local authorities since September after their houses were connected to a boiler room whose power was reportedly insufficient.

“This is some kind of torture and extermination of the population 100 kilometers from Moscow,” she added.

Residents of the Moscow region town of Elektrostal lit a fire in the street to draw the authorities’ attention to the heating problem.

“It’s impossible to stay in our houses. We're freezing!” a group of women in the video said.

Suffering from subzero temperatures, residents are placing the blame on local authorities and utility services for failing to take necessary precautions and not taking action to resolve the situation.

“We are sending complaints everywhere but no one listens to us. We have portable heaters working in every room, but the temperature inside is still 10 degrees Celsius,” Yelena from Podolsk said.

“There is a clinic and a hospital, as well as kindergartens, where there is no heating. And we have no answers, no assistance, no explanation,” Yelena added.

Podolsk authorities opened temporary heating centers and declared a state of emergency.

Local authorities linked the heating problems to the fact that the town is heated by a boiler plant owned by the Klimovsk Specialized Ammunition Plant, a private ammunition factory and one of the largest weapon cartridge production enterprises in the country.

“The facility is under tight security conditions, which limits our ability to oversee winter preparations,” the Moscow region’s Vice Governor Yevgeny Khromushin said last week. “We were unaware of the problem for nearly a day.”

An unidentified Moscow region official and two senior executives at the plant were arrested on suspicion of providing unsafe services, Russia’s Investigative Committee, which probes major crimes, said in a statement Tuesday.

Investigators said that Podolsk’s deputy mayor was accused of misusing authority by issuing a readiness certificate for the boiler house at the plant.

In the neighboring Tver region, the authorities opened a criminal case over the laundering of over 84 million rubles ($938,993) in heating bills paid by residents, the Astra Telegram channel reported this week, citing unidentified sources. According to investigators, the heads of the local water intake and boiler house misappropriated the heating payments for personal use.

Reacting to the heating failures, Putin on Tuesday asked Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Kurenkov to provide heat and electricity to the affected residents.

The outages appear to be the latest effect of several decades of crumbling infrastructure in Russia which have been linked to endemic corruption and mismanagement.

The overall decay of Russia's municipal infrastructure surpassed 70% in 2022, the pro-Kremlin newspaper Izvestia reported .

According to Sergei Pakhomov, head of the State Duma’s Construction, Housing and Utilities Committee, water pipes that were 90 years old or even older were still in use as recently as two years ago in some cases.

Housing, utilities and communal services are a common source of problems for Russians during the winter.

In St. Petersburg, residents regularly complain about extensive ice coverage on city streets and sidewalks, with many people ending up in the hospital over the years due to slipping and falling accidents.

In the Siberian republic of Khakassia, two villages were left without electricity last month due to apparent issues with outdated communication systems.

In the winter of 2020, five people in the Perm region were killed after a pipe burst.

When asked about the latest heating outages, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged the problems and linked them to poor municipal infrastructure, saying that people “had to endure a lot of inconvenience in the cold and without electricity.”

"Despite all the titanic efforts to update all housing and communal services systems, there's still a certain part that remains considerably deteriorated. These programs will continue, but it is impossible to update all pipes and all housing and communal services systems in 10-15 years,” Peskov said.

As for now, residents affected by heating issues appear to lack optimism that the problems will be solved efficiently.

"It's been a week since we've had heating, and the temperature in my apartment is around 11 degrees Celsius,” Podolsk resident Lidiya told The Moscow Times.

“Unfortunately, no one knows when it will be repaired,” she added.
