The beach and Yachting club

Our guests have the opportunity to access the beach at the Bolsena Yatching Club located on the 116.800 kilometer of the Via Cassia, just 5 minutes drive from the VesConte.

Inside the Yachting Club of Bolsena there is Zucchero and Rataplan (this is the name of the bathing establishment). The most beautiful and clean establishment of the Lake, a club house to enjoy your days at the Lake or just an aperitif from dusk to evening, with friends.

You can choose among a lot of activities: water sports such as sailing, fishing, swimming, and scuba diving… Do you prefer something ashore? No problem! There are other interesting and fun activities such as mountain biking, trekking, and horse-riding, tennis. ..

Bolsena holiday

If you are a foreigner and want to improve your Italian language, interesting language courses for foreigners are organized in collaboration with a prestigious school that works nearby. In Bolsena, you can find typical stores, pizzerias, trattorias, and high standard restaurants, where you can taste the typical specialties of the place, like the “coregone”, an important fish in the traditional cooking of Lake Bolsena .

Instead, if you feel like having something sweet and you are with your friends, there are many cafeterias, pastry shops, and ice-cream shops, where you can have a very good gelato, taste original and delicious aperitifs and try many specialties of cocktails while admiring unforgettable panoramas. Bolsena doesn’t offer only a variety of sceneries, but here many popular traditional festivals take places, such as the Corpus Christi Infiorata and Saint Cristina’s Mysteries .

This latter is a historical recollection of the tortures the young saint had to suffer. At night, spectacular fireworks over the lake follow the representation, creating a wonderful and unforgettable setting. Don’t miss visiting the various and fascinating historical and cultural places, such as the Church of Saint Cristina, the museum, the catacombs, the archaeological excavations, the art gallery, and the Bolsena festival exhibition.

Where to stay for a Bolsena holiday?

You can choose where you prefer to stay, either in a hotel or in a fattoria (farmhouses). Both are top quality. In farmhouses, you can spend your time relaxing and in direct contact with the surrounding countryside.

We also have holiday houses for the tourist who wants to stay in total peace and quiet. For the young, there are many comfortable hostels and beds and breakfasts. Along the lake coasts, there are many campsites, which have improved their accommodating facilities, satisfying the more and more demanding needs of the clients. To plan a Bolsena holiday, there’s much to be discovered!

The Infiorata

The ‘ infiorata ‘ is a homage to the miracle that took place in Bolsena, known all over the world as the ‘Miracle of Bolsena.’ In 1263 a Bohemian priest, traveling to Rome to resolve his doubts over the doctrine of transubstantiation, celebrated mass in the town: the communion host turned to literal flesh at the consecration, and drops of human blood spilled onto the altar cloth. He tried to hide what had happened but stains remained on the cloth and on the floor.

As a result of this Pope Urban IV 1264 instituted the feast of Corpus Christi all over the world. Every year for the feast there is a procession that passes over the infiorata, created with different kinds of flowers. The infiorata is 3 km long, there are magnificent pictures made by the young and the not-so-young people of Bolsena.

They become artists for a day: the scenes are chosen months before the feast, though the realization of the pictures is quite quick. Rose, hydrangea, and carnation petals are used, and those of brooms and bluebottles, but also less valuable flowers offer their wonderful shades such as the wild onion, acacia, chestnut, and cane inflorescences to complete the unequal harmony of colors and technical execution.

The single parts of the drawings are thus created and black sawdust is used to highlight the outlines. The obtained effect recalls the colored windows of the churches; it is a fascinating job where everyone competes for the magnificent final result that every year you can admire on Corpus Domini day, in June.

When July 2nd rolls around, hordes of tourists flock to the Lake Bolsena and its banks on the occasion of the Fishing Festival . Next to the religious house and the Chapel of the Miracle, there is a large hill below where catacombs made in the second or third century A.D. were used until the fifth century. Leaving the town by the Orvieto road where the Christians made their trek through Italy to France (Via Francigena) , we eventually cross a border surrounding an area of about 4 kilometers at Poggio Moscini. This boundary marks a very ancient Etruscan wall from the fourth century B.C. while inside there are a number of monuments that are well worth the visit.

The castle-fortress of Monaldeschi , built by the Orvieto authorities in the 12-15th century, looks down on the center of Bolsena. In the Middle Ages, this imposing castle that so dominates the town acted as a defensive outpost for the inland areas. The Piazza Monaldeschi has a Gothic-period temple dedicated to St Francis. Of particular interest is a crucifix of the Pastura school placed on the wall at the entrance to the temple. Are you ready for a Bolsena holiday?

There are many ways to explore the splendid Lake Bolsena. This small heavenly spot offers quite a wide opportunity of sports and activities: snorkeling, sailing, canoeing, fishing, water skiing, windsurfing, motor boating but also mountain bike riding, trekking, and horse riding.

The best way to discover Lake Bolsena is to explore it by boat. The lake has two scenic ports at nearly opposite ends: at Bolsena and Capodimonte. You can rent boats at Capodimonte or take a lake excursion on Navigazione Alto Lazio which runs from both Capodimonte and Bolsena.

Perhaps the nicest excursion however, is by (sail) boat from Capodimonte to the two volcanic islands – L’Isola Bisentina and L’Isola Martana. Bisentina is privately owned, so, unless you have the owner’s permission, you should not go on land, but circumnavigating the island delivers spectacular views of the island’s seven chapels as well as soaring volcanic cliffs. Better yet, you can also anchor the boat and swim in turquoise-clear waters. Martana does not offer the charming architectural views of Bisentina, but is also very attractive in a somewhat wilder way.

You can simply rent a boat at Capodimonte and set off sailing on the crystal clear waters but beginning sailors can also take sailing lessons at Scuola Vela Capodimonte which is situated at one end of Capodimonte. The school also offers sailing lessons in the mornings for kids and you can see them skippering their one-kid miniature sailboats when you go by the school. When having returned to Capodimonte, an absolute must is Ristorante Il Pepe Nero. This is by all means a truly hidden gem, located on the beach of Capodimonte, and serving wonderful pasta and fresh fish from the lake.

Scuba diving in the waters of Lake Bolsena is a fascinating experience. It is a must both for an expert and a beginner. You can admire the underwater landscape that recalls at times the moon and at other times the desert, but you can also swim through submerged antique ruins of these fascinating waters unique and rich in history. So even if you are not a scuba diver, don’t miss the chance to enjoy a once in a life time experience.

Bolsena is also known to be one of the best places in Italy for sport fishing. Fishing boats are available for rental. Strict boating regulations prohibit boats of more than a certain length, restrict the number of boats on the lake and allow motorized boats only for certain purposes (such as fishing and summer tourism). The result is an uncrowded and peaceful lake, even during the most popular summer months. Please note that a license is required for fishing

Although Lago Bolsena is a rather small lake, winds do rapidly change. Mornings are often so calm that the lake gleams mirror-like, and is ideal for swimming, motor boating and water skiing. Afternoons, however, the wind usually picks up and windsurfers and sailors can have real fun.

You could also decide to have a canoe tour, tracing the routes of the old inhabitants who, on a wooden pirogue, set out for the fishing. A tour in kayak is a completely different experience because it allows you in a short time and in complete autonomy to reach places quite often inaccessible for other boats, immersing you entirely in the environment in direct contact with nature. Following the coasts of the basin you can reach the archaeological site of Monte Bisenzio, land on lonely shores or you could coast the headland of Capodimonte. Cycling around the lake is great fun and most of it is quite flat, well within the capabilities of even the most occasional cyclist. You can hire bikes from a shop on the lake side at Bolsena.

If you are a more serious cyclist then there are more challenging rides too. By mountain bike you can have an archaeological tour and go along the natural paths arriving at those places where the Etruscans set their sites. Along your tour you will always be able to appreciate the view of the breathtaking lake.

As you will notice, sports and culture go hand in hand at Lago Bolsena.

The historic center of Bolsena has four districts: Castello, Santa Cristina, Borgo San Rocco, San Giovanni.

Castle : it is the medieval district of the city, with different architectures typical of that period. This district takes its name from the castle of Bolsena, also known as “Rocca Monaldeschi della Cervara” , and currently houses the territorial museum of Lake Bolsena.

Santa Cristina : it is the largest and most populated district of the town. In it, there is the homonymous Basilica and the primary and secondary schools. It also contains the vast majority of the second and more recently built tourist houses, which have arisen near the lake.

Village : it is the central district of the municipality and the least extensive and populated. It contains Piazza Matteotti and Piazza San Rocco, with its historic Fountain. In it we also find one of the oldest areas of the country, the charming village of “Sottosante”. In it, there is also the seat of the Municipality and the offices.

San Giovanni : it is the district that has the smallest presence in the historic center and is almost entirely made up of the most modern area of the country. Piazza San Giovanni is the heart of the neighborhood and is where the traditional local festival is also organized. In it, there are both the Sports Center and the Bolsena Cemetery.

Volkertshausen is located north of Lake Constance in Hegau on the Radolfzell Aach, about nine kilometers from Canto (Hohentwiel). With a district area of 514 hectares, the Volkertshausen area is the smallest municipality in the district of Konstanz.

The village already existed before the Samnite Wars in the 4th century BC. In 293 BC in the Third Samnite War the consul Papirio Cursore was defeated in an attempt to take the city, and the dead, as Tito Livio says, were 7400 Romans. The village had a trapezoidal plan with fortified walls and a main road to the forum and the acropolis. There were also three main gates for the access routes from Benevento, Naples and Bojano. At the end of the wars the village was conquered together with the Sannio and became part of the Regio IV Samnium.

Jason Kelce will be a celebrity bartender in Sea Isle again this summer for the Eagles Autism Foundation

For the fourth consecutive year, Jason Kelce is taking his bartending talents to Sea Isle City to raise money for the Eagles Autism Foundation.

Last year’s event raised more than $375,000 for the foundation, and past guests have included Jason’s brother, Travis, Eagles offensive linemen Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson, and more. The event charged a $10 cover in 2023 with all proceeds going to the foundation, with VIP meet-and-greets also available. Fans participated in beer chugging competitions, flip cup, and beer pong against the Kelce brothers and the Eagles’ guests.

In 2023, the Kelces recorded a live episode of their podcast , New Heights , from Ocean Drive, capturing the Beer Bowl and featuring Dickerson, Jeff Stoutland, and Ryan Hammond, the executive director of the Eagles Autism Foundation, who spoke about the impact of the event.

The Kelce family owns a summer home in Sea Isle, and Jason has been coming to the Jersey Shore town since 2013, after he suffered a knee injury, Matt Breen wrote for The Inquirer . Jason also participated in a Sea Isle run/walk for autism organized by Mike’s Seafood in February.
