Lil Yachty @ History
Lil Yachty brought his “Field Trip” tour down to Toronto at History on Tuesday night with openers Concrete Family and Nick Hakim . This was my first time checking Lil Yachty out live, and this man’s stage presence and energy is amazing. He has an all-female band for the tour, and his interactions with all of them throughout the show were perfect, not to mention that each one of these ladies was talented as fuck! Whether it was vocals, drums, guitar, etc. they all killed it.
I know I literally just said it but it has to be said again lol, his stage presence is 🔥 the crowd was rapping/singing along to everything, jumping around, mosh-pitting, etc. and that was all just reciprocating that energy right back to Yachty.
The guest of honour for the show was none other than one of Yachty’s best boys, the 6 God himself, Drizzy Drake. He was seated up in the VIP section and performed 3-4 songs from there, which the crowd obviously went absolutely nuts for. He also shouted out Yachty as one of his best friends in the world.
If you’ve never seen Lil Yachty perform live before, then make sure you definitely do so next time you have a chance because it really is a great show. Check out

CONCERT REVIEW – LIL YACHTY SHOWS ARTISTIC GROWTH AT SOLD OUT SHOW IN TORONTO
SHIFTER’s Kevin Bourne says Lil Yachty has shown growth and maturity as a performer in his The Field Trip tour review.
Tonight, Lil Yachty brought his The Field Trip tour to Toronto, performing in front of a sold out crowd at History . Opening the show were the Concrete Family , made up of Camo, Draft Day, Moe, and Karrahbooo . Then Nick Hakim took to the stage, performing his brand of laid back, trans-inducing, almost psychedelic music.
Before the show even started, there was a bit of an uproar when Drake and Adonis entered the balcony area. SZA would also discreetly enter the balcony to take in the show which was divided into three parts with different moods and vibes. Yachty opened the show with the soulful and groovy “drive ME crazy!” with its 1970’s inspiration. He then showed off his vocal range with “the ride” , eventually ending with a cover of Phil Collins ‘ “In The Air Tonight” . Impressive (and almost shocking) but impressive.
What you notice right out the gate is the instrumentation. Unlike many performers of his generation, he was accompanied by a live band; a woman-only live band to be exact. The second thing you notice is the quality of his vocals. If there were a theme for the first part of the show it would be Lil Yachty the singer, drawing from soul and pop music. Yes, he uses autotune, but you can hear the vibrato and strength in his voice letting you know he can still hold a note without auto-tune. His vocals along with the live band led to an impressive and quality opening.
After a wardrobe change, Yachty, now wearing all black, went back to his hip-hop roots. With his band now off stage, Lil Boat went through his hip-hop catalogue, performing his biggest songs from the past seven years, including “Yacht Club”, “Nbayoungboat”, “Coffin”, “Broccoli” and “iSpy” . In this part of the show, the instrumentation and soul gave way to screaming, jumping and everything else we’d expect from a Lil Yachty show. If was a brief reminder of why, years ago, us old heads thought artists like Yachty were killing hip-hop.
Then while Yachty was preparing for the final part of show, Drake treated the hometown crowd to an impromptu balcony performance of “Meltdown” and “Rich Flex” , whipping them into a frenzy. He told the crowd he just came from the studio, putting the final touches on For All The Dogs . With SZA in the building, does that mean we’re getting more SZA tracks on the new album?
The third part of the show was dedicated to Rock music from his latest album Let’s Start Here . Common sense would say to end your show with some of your biggest bangers and anthems, but this was actually a fitting end. Refocusing on live instrumentation, with a band member performing a b eautiful piano solo that led to a p sychedelic sounding run created a sense of grandeur. The sound was big and epic; something worthy of Woodstock or a large festival stage.
Overall, we have to say we were thoroughly impressed. It was SHIFTER’s first time seeing Yachty perform live since 2017. He has shown growth and has evolved into a very good live performer who is capable of delivering a solid show from beginning to end. Many years ago, it would’ve been hard to consider someone like Yachty an artist, but in seeing him live again, there’s no doubt that what Yachty did on that stage was true artistry.
Kevin Bourne is SHIFTER’s Toronto-based editor and Senior Entertainment Reporter focusing on Black music and film & TV. He was named one of 310 international voters for the 81st Golden Globe Awards by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and a Tomatometer-Approved Critic by Rotten Tomatoes.

Drake surprises fans at Lil Yachty concert in Toronto
October 4, 2023 Breanna Marcelo
- Copy current article link
Toronto’s favourite rapper Drake is home and he’s ready to give fans a memorable week of performances.
To kick things off, the 6ix God decided to surprise fans at Lil Yachty’s concert at HISTORY Tuesday night. The Atlanta rapper is in town for his tour, “The Field Trip.”
The two have become close friends over the past few years and have collaborated on a number of songs, such as their first track “Oprah’s Bank Account,”as well as “Search & Rescue” and “P**sy & Millions,” which Yachty helped to produce.
On Tuesday night, fans went wild when Drake appeared on the mezzanine to address the crowd. He told everyone he hadn’t been home for four months and that Yachty could take a little break, before tearing into his latest popular hits “MELTDOWN” from Travis Scott’s recent new album, UTOPIA and “Rich Flex” from his album Her Loss.

Throughout the show, Drake was also seen with his son, Adonis. In some clips taken by fans, the Toronto rapper is seen lifting him up Lion King style as “Smells Like Teen Spirit” plays in the background.
Before leaving, the Toronto rapper gave an update to fans about his upcoming new album, For All The Dogs, set to drop this Friday. He said he came straight from the studio where he was finishing up the album and confirmed that Lil Yachty is on the album too.
Drake is set to perform at Scotiabank Arena for his “It’s All A Blur” tour this Friday and Saturday.
There is also speculation among fans that the rapper might make an appearance at the SZA concert at Scotiabank Arena Wednesday night.
The two released a song titled “Slime You Out” last month which debuted at number one on Billboard’s Hot 100.

What’s Going On: Lil Yachty Brings His Field Trip Tour Through Toronto
Lil Yachty , the iconic rapper and Gen Z favorite known for his unique style and boundary-pushing music took Toronto by storm on October 3rd with a mind-bending performance that defied all expectations. The Field Trip Tour is in support of Let’s Start Here , the rapper’s psychedelic rock album from earlier this year that left listeners and critics in awe. The concert, held at Toronto’s History concert venue, was a bold showcase for Yachty’s genre-defying appeal, highlighting his versatility as an artist and his willingness to experiment with his music.
As soon as the show started, the audience was immediately transported to another dimension. The stage was adorned with crazy lights and trippy futuristic visuals, and the Silver Sisters , Lil Yachty’s live all-black backing band featuring top-notch musicians and powerful vocalists, provided a mesmerizing backdrop. Yachty took the stage with confidence, proficiently delivering his vocals over the heavier material. The music was a blend of Pink Floyd meets Tame Impala or Chairlift -style accessible psychedelia, which translated well in a space like History. The live backing band blended seamlessly with Yachty’s delivery, creating an otherworldly sonic experience that kept the crowd engaged from start to finish.
One of the standout moments of the evening was when local boy turned hometown hero Drake grabbed a mic and performed two songs from up in the VIP balcony section of the crowd. While exciting, the appearance wasn’t totally out of left field as the two have become close collaborators in recent years. Another highlight was the middle portion of the show where Yachty dipped into his catalog and broke out all of his guaranteed party-starting hits like “Broccoli” , “Slide” , and “Minnesota,” which got the atmosphere raging. Throughout the show, Yachty’s energy was infectious, and he interacted effortlessly with the audience, creating a sense of unity and excitement that permeated the venue.
tensions was definitely rising last night….. pic.twitter.com/2qvj7NRPEu — CONCRETE BOY BOAT^ (@lilyachty) October 4, 2023
In conclusion, Lil Yachty’s foray into psychedelic rock in Toronto was a daring and unforgettable experience. His willingness to explore new musical territories and add new layers to his artistry demonstrated his depth and versatility. Having the set be divided between his more rocky moody output and his party rap anthem and being accompanied by stunning visuals made for a show that left a lasting impression on the audience. Yachty’s Toronto concert was a testament to the power of artistic freedom and a reminder that true artists are never afraid to shake things up and challenge the status quo. If the Field Trip Tour is coming through your town before the North American leg wraps in November, I’d highly recommend going. Longtime Lil Yachty fans and those who were introduced to him via Let’s Start Here won’t be disappointed.
