At Sweden Yachts we pride ourselves on being adaptable to our customer’s bespoke requirements, any layout can be altered to suit the customer.

Luna of Plymouth is a beautiful example of the Sweden Yachts 45, a yacht that combines exceptional build quality with superb sailing performance. Easily and comfortably sailed short-handed, she has a fully-battened main and has a choice of self-tacking jib or overlapping genoa which are all controlled by an electric winch.

Below decks she has an L- shaped galley with two fridges and an electric hob and multi-function oven, three double cabins, two heads , and a newly upholstered leather dinette and forward facing chart table in a spacious saloon. Both above and below decks she has unusually generous stowage space, including three big lazarettes aft and a large locker forward.

Luna was the Stockholm ‘Boat of the Show’ in 2000. She spent most of her life in Sweden where she was stored inside during the winter, which explains her excellent condition. In recent years she has been kept in the South West of England. In winter the boat has been heated and dehumidified continuously. She has never been raced.

Luna is a Part 1-registered British ship and is UK VAT paid. She is a perfect example of the Sweden Yachts 45, in great condition.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Just interested - thought they were the best boats at LBS. Do they sail well? Might get one in time for a part-time liveaboard (the 41)

Jealous - moi? No I don't have one - but I have done some extensive...well, drooling really over Swedish Yachts. Had a good look round Swedens, HR, Najads and Malo at SIBS, and to my view the classiest and best finished was the Malo, especially the new models. Doesn't really answer your question I'm afraid. But if you want a second opinion along on any sea-trials my mobile number is.... Have been on a Sweden 38 and they sail very nicely...

I sail every other week on a 2004 Sweden Yachts 45 and I have to say it is *the* business! It's fully equipped for blue-water sailing (i.e. watermaker, generator, satellite comms, radar, autopilot, electronic charting, EPIRBs, extra fuel tanks etc) which make it a rather luxurious experience to be on! It also has a carbon-fibre mast, boom and retractable bowsprit, so it is fast. It has not yet been raced in the UK but took part in the 2004 ARC and ARC Europe event and won the Antigua-Bermuda race and was second in the Bermuda-Azores... As for how well it sails - I've only been sailing a few months, so probably not best placed to give you a run down, but hope the other observations help! - Natalaie

great boats and really well built. is the 41 an older model ? they currently make a 42 and 45 and they had details of the new 40 at LIBS. A 42 had problems in the ARC this year. with water coming in through the keel they ditched the boat and jumped on to a container ship. suspect the keel had a heavy bang before the xing of the pond though.

[/ QUOTE ] In the 2003 ARC another Sweden had severe keel bolt problems and had to return to Las Palmas after only a few hours at sea.

Hm. A Sweden 38 I have been on had keel problems - thought to be following a dunt with a previous owner.

Beware keels fall off, they like to keep that one quiet unlike when a keel falls of another well known AWB.

there was also an incident a few years back, if my memory recalls. it was a delivery trip from sweden to the med. don't take my coments the wrong way but i'm still a fan of the sweden yachts.

I always prefered the Malo of all the Swedish yachts. I thought HR made the keels by encasing lead within the GRP and therefore an integral part of the hull. Do they or any of the others still do that or are they all bolt on extras like other AWB's now? Does anyone know why Simon Calder having spec'd out his dream boat Malo sold it so quickly?

Beautiful boats, but I got the impression at the boat show a few years ago you could only day sail them between power points. Unless that was the boat show models, but the saloon seemed to be lit with about 10A worth of halogens, biiiig fridge, microwave, electric winches, electric everything! Either that or they have become a motor sailor. Though, I guess this is how all new boats seem now!

Assume you mean Nigel Calder? Well, reasons given in YM are that after they finished building, two new technologies came to market which he wanted to try - distributed power systems, and diesel/electric auxiliary power.

I sailed many 000's of miles on a 90's 38 which had bumped the hard stuff and had to have some rebuilding done internally, it was repaired at the time but then needed doing again later as there was some movement. I also remember at the time hearing about anoither 38 with keel problems. Lovely boats, although I think my Bav 390 was a better boat all round, just not quite as good to wind.

Malo keels are still encapsulated, I don't think HRs' are.

Well, having looked at various sailboats over the last 10 years, whilst been into power, its always come back to a Sweden as the best choice for me, So at the beginning of 05 after a long search to find one for sale, bought a used 370, and so far are highly delighted with her, she sails very well, both single handed and is competitive at club level with crew.Also sail a Melges 24 sportsboat, but seam to have more fun with the Sweden, very happy with the build quality,had a blow on a trip to Ireland, and she gave me utter confidence All I can say, this will not be my last one, hopefully in a few years will upgrade to a new 42/45 Regards TJ

Denison’s name in yachting started in 1948 with Frank Denison , after purchasing Dooley’s Dry Dock in Fort Lauderdale. At the time, Denison was a defense contractor during World War II building PT boats. Frank renamed the yard “Broward Marine” and began building a selection of the finest yachts for the world’s premiere yachtsmen. Broward Marine (Denison) became legendary for building innovating, seaworthy, efficient, and beautiful yachts—and that reputation has endured well over 60 years. Ken Denison started the yacht brokerage as “Denison & Davis” yacht brokerage, and in 2002, Bob Denison took the helm of Denison Yacht Sales. Since then, the firm has steadily expanded, adding new offices and staffing with an excellent and diverse group of professionally dedicated yacht brokers.

On March first, Flying Cloud Yachts and Denison Yachting merged, combining the national and international marketing strength of Denison Yachting with the strong local reputation that Flying Cloud Yachts has built over the past 45 years. Flying Cloud Yachts brokerage services will still focus on selling quality pre-owned yachts, as well as offering new lines of boats to their yachting community. Denison Yachting is the dealer for Horizon Motor Yachts from 50 feet to over 150 feet, Dufour Sailboat from 36 feet to 56 feet. Denison Yachting is the North American dealer for Beneteau ’s new Catamaran line, XCS Excess , from 38 feet to 50 feet. Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.

The standard layout provides three double berths along with a spacious dining area, sofa, a large galley, spacious navigation area, two shower rooms, and even the space for a crew cabin.
