Published Design Ratios for the Alden 50

1. Sail Area/Displacement Ratio:  15.5

  • Less than 16 would be considered under-powered;
  • 16 to 20 would indicate reasonably good performance;
  • Over 20 suggests relatively high performance.

2. Ballast/Displacement Ratio:  42.9

  • Under 40: less stiff, less powerful
  • Over 40: stiffer, more powerful

3. Displacement/Length Ratio:  333

  • Under 100: Ultralight
  • 100 to 200: Light
  • 200 to 275: Moderate
  • 275 to 350: Heavy
  • Over 350: Ultraheavy

4. Comfort Ratio:  44.7

  • Under 20 indicates a lightweight racing boat
  • 20 to 30 indicates a coastal cruiser
  • 30 to 40 indicates a moderate offshore cruising boat
  • 40 to 50 indicates a heavy offshore boat
  • Over 50 indicates an extremely heavy offshore boat

5. Capsize Screening Formula:   1.6

Summary Analysis of the Design Ratios for the Alden 50

eBook: How to Avoid Buying the Wrong Sailboat

1. A Sail Area/Displacement Ratio of just 15.5 suggests that the Alden 50 will need a stiff breeze to get her going. In light conditions, unless you've got plenty of time on your hands, motor-sailing may be the way to go.

2. A Ballast/Displacement Ratio of 42.9 means that the Alden 50 will stand up well to her canvas in a blow, helping her to power through the waves.

3. A Displacement/Length Ratio of 333, tells us the Alden 50 is clearly a heavy displacement cruising boat. You can load her down with all your cruising gear and equipment and it will hardly affect her waterline. Not an ideal choice for coastal sailing, but she'll come into her own on an offshore passage in testing conditions.

4. Ted Brewer's Comfort Ratio of 44.7 suggests that crew comfort of a Alden 50 in a seaway is similar to what you would associate with the motion of a heavy bluewater cruising boat. Pitching and rolling will be well damped - your cup of coffee on the salon table stands a reasonable chance of staying there in most conditions.

5. The Capsize Screening Formula (CSF) of 1.6 tells us that an Alden 50 would be a safer choice of sailboat for an ocean passage than one with a CSF of more than 2.0.

Cruisers' Questions

What are the pros and cons of a stub keel with a centerboard rather than a fin keel?

That's an interesting question. There are different types of keels that have different advantages and disadvantages depending on your sailing goals and preferences. Here are some pros and cons of a stub keel with a centerboard versus a fin keel:

  • A stub keel with a centerboard allows you to adjust the draft of your boat by raising or lowering the centerboard. This can be useful for sailing in shallow waters or beaching your boat. A fin keel has a fixed draft that limits your access to some areas.
  • A stub keel with a centerboard may have less performance than a fin keel, especially when sailing upwind. A fin keel offers better lateral resistance and stability, which translates into higher speed and less leeway. A stub keel with a centerboard may also create more drag when the centerboard is down.
  • A stub keel with a centerboard requires more maintenance and complexity than a fin keel. You need to operate the mechanism that controls the centerboard, which may involve ropes, pulleys, winches, or hydraulics. A fin keel is simpler and more robust, as it is bolted to the hull.
  • A stub keel with a centerboard may take up some space inside the boat, depending on how the centerboard is stored when raised. A fin keel does not affect the interior volume of the hull.

As you can see, there is no definitive answer to which keel type is better. It depends on your sailing style, preferences, and needs. Some sailors prefer the versatility and shallow draft of a stub keel with a centerboard, while others prefer the performance and simplicity of a fin keel.

Who was John G Alden, and what were the best-known of his sailboat designs?

John G. Alden was a naval architect who opened his design office in 1909 and became famous for his fast and seaworthy offshore boats. He designed a broad range of boats and yachts, many of which have become true classics. Some of his best-known sailboat designs are:

  • The Malabar series, which won many offshore races between 1923 and 1932.
  • The Sakonnet One-Design, which was designed for the Sakonnet Yacht Club, where Alden learned how to sail.
  • The Cheoy Lee Offshore series, which were built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards in Hong Kong and became popular cruising boats.
  • The Boothbay Challenger and Boothbay Explorer, which were large ketch-rigged motor sailers that combined comfort and performance.

Other sailboats in the Alden range include:

Review of Alden 50 (1986)

Basic specs..

The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.

The boat is equipped with 643.0 liter fresh water capacity.

The Alden 50 (1986) is equipped with a centerboard keel. A centerboard keel is a pivoting lifting keel, allowing to sail both coastal and inland waters.

The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.

The boat can enter most marinas as the draft is just about 1.68 - 1.78 meter (5.51 - 5.81 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.

Alden 50 (1986) is typically equipped with a Westerbeke diesel engine at 70.0 hp (52 kW), which gives a max speed about 5.8 knots.

The fuel tank has a capacity of 568.0 liters (150 US gallons, 124 imperial gallons).

Sailing characteristics

This section covers widely used rules of thumb to describe the sailing characteristics. Please note that even though the calculations are correct, the interpretation of the results might not be valid for extreme boats.

What is Capsize Screening Formula (CSF)?

The capsize screening value for Alden 50 (1986) is 1.38, indicating that this boat could - if evaluated by this formula alone - be accepted to participate in ocean races.

What is Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed?

The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 7.7 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Alden 50 (1986) is about 240 kg/cm, alternatively 1348 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 240 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 1348 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Sailing statistics

This section is statistical comparison with similar boats of the same category. The basis of the following statistical computations is our unique database with more than 26,000 different boat types and 350,000 data points.

WHIRLAWAY | Alden 50 | 50ft

Jamestown, RI, US

WHIRLAWAY is a very special thoroughbred. It was imagined by the team at C. Raymond Hunt Associates and brought to fruition by the professionals at Alden Yachts. Under the stewardship of three owners, the vessel was admired in every harbor it entered. It was the fourth owner that transformed it into a 21st-century motor yacht. WHIRLAWAY now runs faster, the three staterooms are more comfortable, the new salon windows allow for the sea breezes, the galley has been modernized, and the flybridge, with its carbon fiber hardtop, is the central gathering area.

of this pedigree come on the market in such upgraded and well-maintained condition and at such a bargain .

'Agape' was hauled out and in in a Lloyds approved in Nanny Cay in the during Irma in 2017 and received minor damages. In December of 2018, a well-known cruiser and very experienced who is also an experienced yachtsman, undertook a four month, $100k which included not just replacing the with a factory original in-mast spar and re-rigging the , but encompassed a complete of the majority of her systems and an updating of the vessels' DC systems to contemporary standards which included a large array, all new and a modern wireless monitoring system.

Also completed was a faring and some non-hurricane related renovations to her bottom as deemed appropriate and a major servicing of the drive train and and bow thruster undertaken, and the port side of the was touched up and clear coated, and so that the flag blue looks fabulous.

With her powerful and efficient, easy to handle sail plan, 'Agape' is a joy to experience underway. Below decks she is sumptuous and elegant with private accommodations for six to eight and a that is both easy to in underway and is well out of the traffic flow with more than adequate counterspace and .

But I note with some curiosity that nowhere in the post is the hull construction or underwater shape mentioned. They list every small item of inventory but fail to specify the important stuff.

Strange way to promote a cruising boat IMO.

1993 Alden 50 Center Cockpit

  • Description

Seller's Description

Halekai is a luxurious, semi-custom sailing yacht, designed by John G. Alden, Inc. and built in Portsmouth, RI to the rigorous standards of American Bureau of Shipping-A1 offshore certification. She’s a proven world cruiser, having earned the rare honor of completing a circumnavigation. Alden Yachts is a renowned top of the line yacht builder since 1909, known for rugged construction, superior joinery, high quality equipment and speed. She was customized by her current (and only) owners for self-reliant world cruising and outfitted specifically for their ten year circumnavigation. They refer to her as the ultimate cruising boat, based on their extensive blue water experience sailing aboard their two previous boats.

“Halekai” has been meticulously maintained and constantly upgraded to the highest standards. The dark green hull was awl-gripped and the diesel engine was rebuilt during a $50,000 refit in 2011/12. A complete electronic refit was done in 2019. The layout consists of a large chain locker/storage compartment with watertight door, forward guest stateroom with head/shower, main salon, nav station, walk-in workshop, walk-through galley, and aft master stateroom with head/shower.

Due to her partially enclosed center cockpit from which they can set and adjust the roller-furled sails, they “never needed foul weather gear in 120,000 miles of sailing.

YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS BOAT! She’s the perfect world cruiser for a couple or family, and she has the experience and pedigree to prove it. Her stunning lines and graceful curves speak to her performance at sea, and the modifications that her owners have made to her have made her a self-contained “island” where you can be fully self sufficient.

Basically, all the work has been done for you to make this boat the ideal world cruiser. All you have to do is provision and set sail.

Note that third cabin has been customized into full workshop.

Rig and Sails

Auxilary power, accomodations, calculations.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.

Classic hull speed formula:

Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL

Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL

Sail Area / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.

SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3

  • SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
  • D : Displacement in pounds.

Ballast / Displacement Ratio

A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.

Ballast / Displacement * 100

Displacement / Length Ratio

A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.

D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
  • LWL: Waterline length in feet

Comfort Ratio

This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.

Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

  • D: Displacement of the boat in pounds
  • LOA: Length overall in feet
  • Beam: Width of boat at the widest point in feet

Capsize Screening Formula

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

CSV = Beam ÷ ³√(D / 64)

Alden design #1180x. (ALDEN 50/52/54). Of this series, the ALDEN 50 was the first boat planned and the last built. Not to be confused with another ALDEN 50 built by Cheoy Lee, a much earlier design. See ALDEN 54 (1985).

1989 Alden 50 Prestige Yacht Sales is proud to represent Symphony, the stunning aft cockpit 1989 Alden 50. The Alden 50's are known for their "yacht like" good looks as well as being proven performance cruisers. Symphony is no exception. With her dark green hull, gold cove stripe, white boot top, varnished toe rail, white deck with contrasting non-skid Symphony does the 50 series proud in any harbor.  The profile of Symphony is only part of the story. The Alden craftsmanship is evident when you first step on board. The interior is satin cherry, with a teak and holly sole. Symphony's salon however is not like many of the other Alden 50’s. When the present owner purchased the boat (winter 2013), the starboard side had two barrel chairs with a fold up table between. Two built in seats/settees were fabricated by McMillen Yachts. (April 2013) making the salon on Symphony on par with any yacht of this size this broker has ever seen. In addition, to the new seats a new salon table was fabricated (the original is in storage), and new cushions were installed. "Symphony " is currently in her slip and being daysailed, she is likely the "prettiest girl on the dock". The tan canvas, bimini, two sets of cockpit cushions (2013), as well as the custom teak "surfing seats", complete look of this pedigree yacht.  Schedule a showing soon, there are not many pedigree sailboats in this size range to choose anymore.

1932 Alden Sloop/Cutter One of John Alden's finest designs was the Sloop-Cutter Design No. 531, for Mr. Ralph Forbes, of Boston, MA.   In 1932, Mr. Ralph E. Forbes of Boston, MA, commissioned the renown George Lawley and Sons to build S/Y Lark.  Ralph Emerson Forbes was the son of William Hathaway Forbes and Edith Emerson (daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson).  The Forbes spent many years of memorable sailing with their family and notable guests out of Naushon Island.  This is a two owner yacht that has been sailed by the Forbes family for 50 years.  She is very capable at sea, racing and entertaining guests.  In 1972, Captain Eric Little (a master shipwright), purchased the S/Y Lark, sailing her every summer in the Elizabeth Islands, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and cruising Cape Cod.  During the winters, Captain Little completed restorations including replacing a majority of the frames, floors, and planking.  George Lawley and Sons built hundreds of ships and yachts, most notably the yachts Puritan and Mayflower respective winners of the 1885 and 1886, America's Cup (and the fine sloop Lark). Make Morgan Yachts

Model 41 Custom CB Yawl

1973 Morgan Yachts 41 Custom CB Yawl Linda Marie is a unique and one-of-a-kind 1973 Morgan 41 Yawl, originally purchased as a "kit-boat" in 1971 and completed and launched in 1973 by a master shipwright carpenter, Harvey Hawthorne, with interior oiled-teak cabinetry and a layout unlike any of the others. Her graceful & bullet-proof Full-Keel/Centerboard solid fiberglass hull only draws 4'3" with the centerboard up and 9'5" when down, for exhilarating upwind performance offshore. Owners report that they rarely drop the CB because she sails so well with it up, prompting some to comment, according to Practical Sailor, that "it didn't matter if it was blowing 7 knots or 18 knots, you can leave the helm, go get a cold drink below, come back, and find the boat just as you'd left her." She has a traditional layout with an unusually large 6'7" L. x 7' W. Master V-Berth, head with toilet & vanity to port, storage cabinets and drawers opposite, spacious Main Salon with 6'6" settees on each side & Twin 6'6" Pilot Berths outboard and above the Settees, followed by the Nav table to Port, Galley opposite to Starboard, and a 6'6" x 26" Quarterberth aft to Port. Nearly every inch of vertically accessible surface is finished with exquisitely detailed oil-teak cabinets and drawers, providing incredible storage and a fit & finish comparable to Hinckley, Bristol, Cheoy Lee & Alden yachts. Recent upgrades include  a 2003 40hp Westerbeke Diesel with low hours, Hood Roller Furling in 2013, a Garmin EchoMap 50s Chartplotter/Sounder in 2014, and in 2016, the bottom was stripped and 5 coats of InterProtect 2000 barrier coat epoxy was applied plus fresh Trinidad anti-fouling paint. Practical Sailor had this to say about this classic Morgan 41 model: "A great upgrade candidate for any handy and determined sailor, the Morgan 41 is a well-designed, cross-purpose boat with the face of a classic, the heart of a racer, and the body of a cruiser. The Morgan 41 Sloop is arguably one of the best looking of many lovely dual-purpose sailboats that the Cruising Club of America handicap rating system engendered. One owner described his boat as a "Bermuda 40 for a regular Joe, only prettier." You won't find a better example of this classic Centerboard Yawl which has been loved, pampered, and upgraded by her knowledgeable owners for the past 28 years. Call today to schedule a personal inspection.

An Alden 50 year anniversary?

When I met Jon on Muskrat this summer, we talked a bit about the potential to put something together next season. So to restart this idea, who's interested and may be able to get together, summer of 2010, in New England, for an Alden 50 year anniversary?

As I plan to launch in a slightly unfinished state next year, assuming I get my visa, and not wanting to travel too far for a start, how about getting together in Hamburg cove just up the Connecticut river,it would be nice to see some of the people I know from this site plus I could look closely at all your nice boats and plan how I could get Blackstar into that condition. Philip Dann

We hope to travel to Buzzards Bay and points south next summer. 1. As talked about, all Alden Challengers, Zephyrs, Mistrals, and Caravelles should try and meet. 2.How many are below the Cape and would be interested? 3. How many in the Cape Cod Bay area? Portsmouth north? 4. I think we need to star some preliminary planning sooner rather than later. If we could get a ball park number it would be easier to plan a few rendezous along the coast(sp?) I'd be glad to help with planning. I know there are a number of classic boat rallys/regattas/events in Maine over the course of the summer and I'm sure there are some in So New England as well. We're bummed- we haul the masts on Wed and go to the public ramp for a haulout/ truck ride to our neighbors yard in Cosy Harbor for the winter. One more sail tomorrow!! Jon

Four of the Caraavelle Owners got together about four years ago in Camden, Sawyers Cove and Northeast Harbor Maine, more by conincidence than by design. It was really a thrill checking out each other's boat and sailing in company in the Penobscot. As I have become the record keeper for the Caravelles, tracking down 16 of the 18 built, I would be more than happy to assist in putting together a rendezvous. In fact, I had been in discussion with Niels at Alden Design about a 100th anniversary rendezvous but the firm closed too soon to pull it off. Boston and Marblehead were discussed as possible locations allowing easy access from both Maine and Connecticutt. Mystic Seaport was discussed for their ability to promote Marque Rendezvous's such as the S & S gathering two years ago. Newport is also easy and we could become part of the Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta (Modern Classic division) over Labor Day Weekend. The Caravelle "Bounding Home" and the Challenger "Compass Rose" are home ported in Stonington and the Carvelle "Pearl" is next door in Mystic, Ct. We are ready to go!

CaravelaofExe

Welcome aboard Scott! At long last...

I finally figured out this blog stuff. I much more comfortable with old boats than new computers!!!! And its all your fault!

915_Bounding_Home_at_sunset[1].JPG

Bounding Home was moored next to Serena for a few days summer of 2008. Mr. Roomet was out of town. I understand he is selling Serena because his wife has been ill. Beautiful boat. Very original. Very sad reason to sell.... Any other response to a rendezvous?

I think this may be my first post here but am not sure. I registered a while back. I'd love to sail her up for the anniversary gathering if one is held. -not sure I will have the time however. At any rate, Here are a couple photos of Banjo Girl. She's Hodgdon No 3 I think of the Maine built Caravelle. I'm going pretty deep into some projects this fall and winter and I'll update the board later with some details and photos. For now here is one taken in the spring in cruising mode and another this summer in racing mode. ...cruising mode photo too large. -more later. best regards, Jay Z.

BanjoGirlTrw2.jpg

Great looking boat Jay. Would love to play host to you and Banjo Girl here in New England. As much fun as it might be to sail from texas to New England, it may be faster, cheaper and way less wear and tear to put her on a truck and then fly back and forth from Texas to Boston or Providence a few times during the season. Besides, we get fewer hurricanes here - that was the kiss of death for us!!!!

We are thinking of bringing Moth to Maine next summer, Tom, (from Nantucket Sound), at least to the Portland area where our son will be finishing his second year of residency at Maine Medical - but not sure how much farther beyond that we'll be able to get given our time available. Probably more toward the late July window, but a rendezvous schedule could alter that. We had heard some scutttlebutt about an Alden event at Mystic being planned several years ago, but nothing seemed to come of it, and I expect their planning horizon would need more notice than months possibly. It is very cool to have the run of the seaport at night after closing, however, as a side benefit of being there... Still trying to get confirmation whether the Zephyrs and Mistrals had chainplate pockets molded into the hull and then faired over on the outside, or whether they are like the Caravelles', but sure look deeper and more substantial than an inside job. Moth probably shouldn't go more than another year or so before getting than taken care of one way or the other (just like the rudder rebuild) Another reason to finally get to retirement!

HI EVERYONE, I'm the new owner of Pearl - a Caravelle yawl. We live on the Southern Connecticut Coast and go to Southwest Harbor Maine in the summer. So..... If you do an Alden cruise this summer to celebrate the 50 year anniversary - we'd be happy to participate and think we might be able to do more than that. As you all get to the stage of settling on dates and locale - I'm happy to help set up a dinner ashore if you end up in either Darien, Ct or Mount Desert Island or help in any number of ways. The cruising is better in Maine - and that's where I'm hoping the boat will be in July and August. But it would be great to meet up with Alden Owners where ever you may be in the North East for your 50th. We're still learning about the boat - I'm sure it would be terrifically helpful to catch up with a number of you. I can be reached at two oh three 252 0667 and I'm happy to help in some of the planning for the event or really help in any way I can. So we're having fun with the boat. Pearl's last sail of the year was in 32 to 40 knots it was a 40 degree day. This jib and jigger thing really works and as this is my first yawl I'd only ever done it once before in my life. Not a bad way to go when it is this windy. Except she did need new winches - so there were those torn ligaments in someone's hand.... we did not escape unscathed. The wounded will be around to tell the tail in the summer too. Anyway - glad there is this forum. Happy Holidays. Robin Johnson

Hi Robin, glad you found the board. A get together is completely up in the air and open to anything. Keep the ideas coming. I suppose we'll have to get an idea of a locale eventually to see how many may actually be able to attend?

Checked with Mystic Seaport and that was a little ( gulp) expensive- some where around $3/ft for dockage which is probably normal in the sound (but with no real area to drop the hook). I emailed Boston Water boat Marina- which I think is next to Alden's old office and have not heard back. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Just to throw out a thought- some time early July in Buzzards Bay/Bean town/Mass Bay area and then on to Maine?? I also think Cindy & I could set something up in the Boothbay region which is a good landfall from the south if that seems to work out. What about Castine after and then farther down east? Gorry- ain't it some snappy out! The wind finally let go so the curtains don't blow in the bedroom- they've stuck to the frost on the inside of the windows!! Jon

Hi Jon, that sounds like a good hazy idea to me. I've been standing by to see what (if) others have in mind. Boston/Maine is a good idea to keep moving. Any word from the Boston dock idea?

Actually yesterday I emailed Niels about spar drawings and he mentioned Boston Waterboat Marina. I emailed them about a month ago with no response but I think that might be related to the time of year. I emailed them again yesterday and if there is no reply next week I'll call on the land line. What ever happens it will be fun- have to have 3 boats at least!!

southport said: What ever happens it will be fun- have to have 3 boats at least!! Click to expand

If Buzzards Bay/Vinyard Sound is of any interest, Moth and Christmas first met in Lake Tashmoo on the north side of the Vinyard - which a really sweet and picturesque spot that is also an excellent and free anchorage within walking distance from Vinyard Haven. From there, an easy hitch to the canal and down to Maine in the prevailing sou'wester... Just a thought...

I checked with our Commodore and manager and would like to offer the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club for a rendezvous site. We have over 200' of floating dock plus additional slip that can accommodate both Caravelles and Challengers. Tie ups are $3.50 per foot but I'm working on that part. Dodsons Boatyard on the northend of the harbor has a fixed dock at $3.00 per foot and moorings with launch service for $45 per night. We can offer anything from a BBQ on the terrace to full sit down dinner and at any price point that the participants may wish. There are also some fun, very informal meeting/drinking places like the Dog Watch where we can gather. On Friday evenings, SHYC runs a Beer Can PHRF Race with the gun at 1800 and open to all with a rating certificate and there is a $12 BBQ for participants afterward. I can also arrange for our RC to set a course for us on Saturday. For those not familiar with Stonington, it is a wonderful town for non-sailors to spend a weekend with shops, a museum, a beach and any number of restaurants. SHYC is planning a shuttle boat from our club docks out to Napatree Beach for members and guest without a boat or dinghy. It is also a good place for crew changes as the AmTrack stops in Mystic and New London. Suggested weekends would be Friday, July 9 and Saturday July 10 or Friday July 23 and Saturday July 24 as no other club or event have booked those dates as of today. The Caravelle Bounding Home and the Challenger Compass Rose (owned by Peter Gillie) are there to welcome you. Iain McAllister can vouch for our facilities as he brought the beautifully restored Peggy Baun to our club to compete in the Race Rock Regatta. Let me know if there is interest. Scott Kraft

Doubtful that I will be able to get Banjo Girl (992P) up for the annivesary but if something materializes my wife and I would enjoy escaping the Texas heat in July. It would also be great to see some sisterships and other fine looking Aldens. Keep us all posted.
