Review of Diva 35
Basic specs..
The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season.
The boat is equipped with a galley and toilet facility.
The Diva 35 is built with a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a gennaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.
The Diva 35 is built with a fin keel. The fin keel is the most common keel and provides splendid manoeuvrability. The downside is that it has less directional stability than a long keel.
The keel is made of lead. Compared with iron, lead has the advantage of being 44% heavier, which allows a smaller keel and hence less water resistance and higher speed.
The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 1.85 - 1.95 meter (6.07 - 6.37 ft) dependent on the load. See immersion rate below.
Diva 35 may be equipped with an inboard Yanmar 2GV20 diesel engine at 18 hp (13 kW). Calculated max speed is about 5.4 knots

What is Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed?
The theoretical maximal speed of a displacement boat of this length is 7.2 knots. The term "Theoretical Maximum Hull Speed" is widely used even though a boat can sail faster. The term shall be interpreted as above the theoretical speed a great additional power is necessary for a small gain in speed.
The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Diva 35 is about 196 kg/cm, alternatively 1101 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 196 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 1101 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Diva 35 is a 35 ′ 4 ″ / 10.8 m monohull sailboat designed by Bernt Lindquist and built by Fabola Boats between 1983 and 1993.

The theoretical maximum speed that a displacement hull can move efficiently through the water is determined by it's waterline length and displacement. It may be unable to reach this speed if the boat is underpowered or heavily loaded, though it may exceed this speed given enough power. Read more.
Classic hull speed formula:
Hull Speed = 1.34 x √LWL
Max Speed/Length ratio = 8.26 ÷ Displacement/Length ratio .311 Hull Speed = Max Speed/Length ratio x √LWL
Sail Area / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the power of the sails relative to the weight of the boat. The higher the number, the higher the performance, but the harder the boat will be to handle. This ratio is a "non-dimensional" value that facilitates comparisons between boats of different types and sizes. Read more.
SA/D = SA ÷ (D ÷ 64) 2/3
- SA : Sail area in square feet, derived by adding the mainsail area to 100% of the foretriangle area (the lateral area above the deck between the mast and the forestay).
- D : Displacement in pounds.
Ballast / Displacement Ratio
A measure of the stability of a boat's hull that suggests how well a monohull will stand up to its sails. The ballast displacement ratio indicates how much of the weight of a boat is placed for maximum stability against capsizing and is an indicator of stiffness and resistance to capsize.
Ballast / Displacement * 100
Displacement / Length Ratio
A measure of the weight of the boat relative to it's length at the waterline. The higher a boat’s D/L ratio, the more easily it will carry a load and the more comfortable its motion will be. The lower a boat's ratio is, the less power it takes to drive the boat to its nominal hull speed or beyond. Read more.
D/L = (D ÷ 2240) ÷ (0.01 x LWL)³
- D: Displacement of the boat in pounds.
- LWL: Waterline length in feet
Comfort Ratio
This ratio assess how quickly and abruptly a boat’s hull reacts to waves in a significant seaway, these being the elements of a boat’s motion most likely to cause seasickness. Read more.
Comfort ratio = D ÷ (.65 x (.7 LWL + .3 LOA) x Beam 1.33 )

This formula attempts to indicate whether a given boat might be too wide and light to readily right itself after being overturned in extreme conditions. Read more.

Diva 35 presenterades 1985 av Fabola. Runt 1992 presenterades Diva 355 som efterföljare till Diva 35. Diva 355 slutade tillverkas i början av 2000-talet. Jämfört med Diva 35 har Diva 355 annan inredningslösning, och mer påkostad inredning. Diva 35 presenterades efter 5 års utvecklingsarbete och var en mycket modern båt när hon presenterades. Hon var den första båten i världen som tillverkades med stomme av handupplagd kevlarfibrer, vilket innebär att hon är närmare ett ton lättare än sina konkurrenter. Linjerna är moderna med inbyggd badplattform i aktern. Diva 35 har sålts i flera olika stadier, från halvfabrikat till färdig båt.
Rorkult som standard på Diva 35, Diva 355 finns även med rattstyrning. Negativ akter med hål i aktern för enkel ombordstigning. Köl och roder ellipsformade.

Diva 35 finns med flera olika inredningsalternativ. Direkt till babord om nedgångstrappan finns ett framåtvänt L-format pentry med spis med ugn och dubbla diskhoar. Akteralternativ 1: Ingång akter om pentryt till en akterkabin med en dubbelkoj, en sittplats och en garderob. Till styrbord om nedgångstrappan en toalett. Akter om toaletten med ingång genom toaletten finns en dubbelkoj (modell stickkoj). För om toaletten separat navigationsplats med separat sittplats i färdriktningen. Akteralternativ 2: Som alternativ 1 men med sjökoj akter om toaletten istället. Akteralternativ 3: Som alternativ 1 på babordssidan. Till styrbord om nedgångstrappan ingång till en separat akterruff med dubbelkoj, sittplats och garderob (som på babordssidan). Toalett något framskjuten. Navigationsbord för om toaletten där salongssoffan används som sittdyna. För om pentry och toalett finns salongen som består av två C-formad soffor runt ett runt bord. It takes into consideration "reported" sail area, displacement and length at waterline. The higher the number the faster speed prediction for the boat. A cat with a number 0.6 is likely to sail 6kts in 10kts wind, a cat with a number of 0.7 is likely to sail at 7kts in 10kts wind. KSP = (Lwl*SA÷D)^0.5*0.5
