Yacht Club de Monaco marks 70 years with Prince Albert II’s leadership

Friday, December 22, 2023 Favorite

Yacht Club de Monaco, Prince Albert II,

In 2023, Yacht Club de Monaco celebrated 70 years with awards and sustainable yachting focus, led by Prince Albert II and featuring global sailing achievements.

In a grand celebration of the momentous year 2023 and the 70th anniversary of the Yacht Club de Monaco, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the club’s esteemed president, honored its members at the traditional winter gathering. This event was not just about recognizing the club’s esteemed ambassadors but also a time for welcoming new faces and unveiling the plans for the upcoming season. Prince Albert II expressed, “These festivities mark a commemoration of seventy years filled with memorable sailing experiences and remarkable encounters.”

The Prince went on to emphasize, “Yachting isn’t just a sport; it embodies the spirit of athletic excellence and values that I hold dear.” This year, the club’s accolades included a gold in the Small States Games in the ILCA 4 division, world championship triumphs in various categories like Finn, RC44, Swan50, and 5.5, and a prestigious win at the Voiles de Saint-Tropez with the club’s pride, Tuiga. The upcoming year, 2024, is set to be sports-centric with events like the Olympic Games potentially featuring a club sailor, the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona with club members participating, and the Vendée Globe. Pierre Casiraghi, vice-president of the Y.C.M. and founder of the Malizia team, along with skipper Boris Herrmann, will rejoin the global race with their IMOCA Malizia-Seaexplorer. Casiraghi shared, “We’re striving to accumulate as much sea experience as possible before the race start, to thoroughly understand our IMOCA.”

The evening’s pinnacle was the presentation of the Ubs YCM Sailor of the Year 2023 trophy, awarded to Nico Poons, RC44 world champion. Poons expressed immense pride in receiving this recognition, noting the heightened competition and his successful season, including winning the ‘Worlds’ and the overall season. The nominees were a distinguished group of YCM members and expert sailors like Edward Wright, Leonardo Ferragamo, Benoît de Froidmont, Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio, Vladimir Prosikhin, Graeme Peterson, and Joost Schuijff. Bernard d’Alessandri, the club’s Secretary-General, reflected, “2023 was a landmark year for us, showcasing our members’ passion with five world championships.”

The ceremony also spotlighted the youth, awarding Noah Garcia for his remarkable season, including a gold in the Small States Games in ILCA 4 and a notable position in the French ILCA 6 championship.

Sustainable yachting was another key theme. Echoing Peter Drucker, Prince Albert II highlighted the necessity of shaping a sustainable future, citing initiatives like the SEA Index, the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, and the YCM Explorers Awards. He commended these efforts and encouraged further research in sustainable yachting.

The event also revisited the commitment of shipowners to environmental stewardship, exemplified by Mike Horn’s four-year global expedition named ‘Whats’Left’, with a YCM delegation joining him briefly in Greenland aboard Pangea.

Prince Albert II emphasized the club’s role in pioneering sustainable practices in recreational boating. As 2024 marks a decade since the inauguration of the new Club House, designed by Lord Foster, the Yacht Club de Monaco continues to actively contribute to Monaco’s environmental policies. The club collaborates with key industry figures through its think tank to foster international initiatives, reinforcing Monaco’s position as a leader in advanced yachting.

Take a tour of prince albert of monaco's yacht.

One of the best stories of this season was the rise of plucky Monaco, a squad laden with exciting young talent that won Ligue 1 and made it to the Champions League semifinals. One story that was overlooked regarding Monaco is that Prince Albert of Monaco, whose family owns part of AS Monaco Football Club, has an exceptionally nice boat.

Prince Albert's boat is named the Koning Albert II, because when you are the billionaire Prince of Monaco you get to name luxury oceangoing vessels after yourself, it's just what you do. Let's take a look around.

0:00 The video opens with a wide shot, wide enough for you to relize that this boat is really, truly large. You, a commoner, will never be on a boat this big unless you are in the Navy or go on cruises as vacations. (Note: do not go on cruises for vacations. Do something interesting instead. Please. Unless you're using the cruise to see a bunch of different places in a short amount of time. That's what I did when I went on a cruise. I had to qualify my original statement about all cruises being bad because I went on a cruise once and I am great and never make bad decisions.)

It's just a big damn boat. I wish I had one and you do too.

0:06 The second shot is looking down on the pool. The boat, which is built to travel on water, has a feature in which you can play in water and remain on the boat. You don't have to go into the outside water. You can stay safely on the boat and still be in water. Please note the pool can be converted into a helicopter pad. If you were wondering what a billion dollars can buy you, it's that. Near the pool is a full bar, lounging space for six people to lounge comfortably in and two staircases.

0:12 The pool shot is followed by another wide shot in case you forgot how goddamn big this boat is.

0:15 This wide shot is followed by another wide shot, for even more emphasis, set in water so turquoise it cannot possibly be real.

(Prince Albert of Monaco has enough money that he could pay for them to dye the sea the perfect shad of turquoise just for that photo. Do not put that past him.)

0:20 There are two balconies overlooking the pool. The first is bigger than my apartment and the second has a hot tub.

0:25 The view from said balconies is obviously spectacular.

0:31 See? I told you the pool turns into a helicopter pad.

0:35 The walkways on the outside edges of Prince Albert of Monaco's yacht are tastefully-appointed and modern. Duh.

0:40 That's not the hot tub on the balcony overlooking the pool. That's a different hot tub.

0:45 This is a boat and as such it contains many nautical instruments.

0:50 Gangplanks are for poor people.

0:55 How is Prince Albert of Monaco not just absolutely wasted on champagne and fruity island drinks all the time? Maybe he is, but he's really good at hiding it in public and none of his servants want to talk about it.

1:00 Y'all it has a garage.

1:05 Seriously though.

1:10 I mean, come on.

1:15 From what I can tell, this boat has upwards of 20 places with the sole purpose of comfortably lounging. Which, luxury yacht, so I guess that makes sense.

1:20 A classy dining room, just in case any other princes happen to wander by.

1:25 This just looks like a normal living room. I am confused.

1:30 That looks like either a fish tank or an elevator shaft and I'm real curious to find out which one.

1:35 Never mind I have been distracted by the grand piano with what appear to be flame decals on it.

1:40 Another classy dining room. In case one needs to host two different classy meals at two different locations within the yacht.

1:45 Salmon is not really what we were expecting from the bedroom but whatever floats your boat, buddy.

Oh god I am so sorry for the "whatever floats your boat" thing. Please forgive me.

1:50 Just a bigger version of a hotel bathroom, really.

1:55 Twin beds? What is this, a youth hostel?

2:00 Industrial kitchen, yes, of course, moving on.

2:05 That must be the servants' quarters or something.

2:10 Definitely servants' quarters. I doubt Prince Albert of Monaco has ever even been in that room.

2:15 The bridge, you've seen movies.

2:20 Important technical boat stuff happens here. More photos of the pool/helicopter pad, please.

2:25 That is not the pool or even anywhere near it. That is a picture of some stairs you could find on any old boat. Come on guys I need glitz! Glamour! Elegance! Placate me!

2:30 Oh, cool, toolboxes. Thanks guys. Really what I was looking for.

2:35 Valves, awesome.

2:40 Different Angle on the valves. This is no way to end a tour. I am so sorry.

Days after attending the Monaco Yacht Show, Prince Albert II of Monaco headed north to the French port city of Cherbourg to visit a shipyard building a pioneering polar vessel and lead a talk at the Festival Grand Océan.

It has been a busy few days for Monaco’s sovereign. After appearing at a series of events in and around Port Hercule during the 2023 edition of the Monaco Yacht Show, Prince Albert hit the road and headed to Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, and specifically the Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie (CMN) shipyard, on Friday 29 th September.

It was here that the Prince was pictured touring the site and meeting with the engineers and designers who are building the Tara Polar Station for the Tara Ocean Foundation. When finished, the futuristic vessel will become a drifting scientific base in the Arctic for up to 20 people.

prince albert ii yacht

Later that day, Prince Albert participated in the Festival Grand Océan, where he presented the work of his eponymous Fondation Prince Albert II de Monaco and appeared on a panel discussing the Tara Polar Station alongside Romain Troublé, the General Director of the Tara Ocean Foundation, and Serge Quaranta, the CEO of the CMN shipyard.

The weekend saw the Prince indulge some of his more leisurely interests as he travelled to Rome to enjoy a bit of Ryder Cup action at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, which is roughly an hour outside of the city.

Prince Albert will also be spending the next few days in Italy as his schedule is taking him to Calabria on Tuesday 3 rd and Wednesday 4 th October. The Prince will be visiting the towns of Taurianova, Terranova Sappo Minulio and Seminara to welcome them into the fold of the Sites Historiques Grimaldi de Monaco.

David Seal at Monaco's Smart Yacht Rendezvous with HSH Prince Albert II

Posted April 14, 2023 in Company by Chloe Braithwaite

The first annual Monaco Smart Yacht Rendezvous, this year held across two days of March 23-24, brought together key players across the yachting industry to drive sustainable change. The forum played host to people who have the power to disrupt the industry as a whole; in attendance were renowned yacht designers Espen Øino, Dan Lenard, and Massimo Perotti, CEO of Sanlorenzo Yachts as well as His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II of Monaco.

This year’s event was particularly notable as David Seal, N&J’s Head of Video Production and a leading figure in the industry, attended the event as Master of Ceremonies, where he was invited to present at the Explorer Yacht Awards alongside the Prince.

“It was such an honor to present awards side-by-side with HSH Prince Albert II,” says David. “This is the only event of its kind in the world and the only time you’ll get all those people together in the same room.”

According to one of the event’s supporters, José Marco Casellini, CEO of Monaco Marina Management, the presence of so many major players reflects the collective desire to respond to climate issues, encouraging responsible and innovative solutions.

“It was really inspirational,” recalls David, “to see so many yacht designers, naval architects, builders and businesses large and small all unite to find ways to make the industry more sustainable as a whole.”

One such example he recalls is a discussion centered around the alternative fuel, hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).

“As a renewable source, it sounds like a promising one,” he says. “Most engine manufacturers have said that their engines are compatible with it, and it can reduce emissions significantly. Feadship has committed to using it for their next sea trial, which is a significant step in the right direction.”

As the industry comes together to work toward a more eco-friendly future, you, too, as a yacht owner or charter guest can join the green movement. Learn more about eco-friendly chartering or yacht purchase today.

Prince Albert II: “we need to listen to what science has to say more than ever before”

prince-albert-II-forum-davos

The Sovereign attended the World Economic Forum in Davos. He delivered four speeches on the environment, tailored towards the political decision-makers and entrepreneurs present.

“Unfortunately, the warnings raised by the scientific community have been inadequate in reversing a trend which certainly seems to point towards a disaster waiting to happen.”   One of the issues raised by the Prince was permafrost. As the permanently frozen ground thaws, there could be risks to our health.

“ This situation strikes us today in its magnitude and in the magnitude of the threat it poses. However, while its consequences may be exceptional, I don’t consider the mechanisms that made it possible to be exceptional. […]  There is a form of negligence vis-à-vis the warnings we have been given by scientists.  […] Many of these threats could have been avoided if we had paid better attention to scientific warnings. Some of them might still be avoided: therefore, we need to listen to what science has to say more than ever before.”

“The link between environment and health”

“ I would like to touch on another matter brought to the fore by the permafrost situation : the link between environment and health. Because while it is likely that the melting ice will release methane and CO2, it is also likely that this will lead to the resurgence of ancient bacteria and viruses, against which we are not protected.  […] This link between health and environment is crucial. It is crucial for our future because unknown threats could occur soon. But it is also crucial in regard to our ability to act, ” Prince Albert II stressed.

The Sovereign held a series of meetings between speeches. On 17 January, he met with Dorin Recean, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, and the day before, he went to the Greek House with Frédéric Genta, Interministerial Delegate for Attractiveness and Digital, to highlight the role of artificial intelligence and its development potential in terms of the economy, health and education.

More consideration for the blue economy?

Another topic addressed by Prince Albert II was the blue economy, which covers all economic activities to do with the oceans, seas and coastlines.

“ Too often the blue economy is viewed as a secondary concern; something reserved for conservationists and a handful of coastal countries. This way of looking at the ocean as a minor issue, or of local importance only, is not unique to the economy. It’s been less than ten years since the climate COPs decided to devote specific work to the ocean, yet we know the importance of its role in climate regulation. And despite recent progress, most of the seas on this planet – almost half its entire surface – are still virtually all exempt from any regulations to protect them.”

We need to move forward in building a blue economy Prince Albert II

And the Prince spoke of his own involvement. “This is the purpose of my action, with the Principality of Monaco, as well as with my Foundation (Prince Albert II Foundation, Ed.) , since we are intensifying partnerships, discussions, and collaborations aimed at building this common future together. Fifteen years ago, we created the Monaco Blue Initiative which is an annual forum for exchange between scientists, policymakers, economic players, and civil society regarding these issues.”

“ We need to move forward in building a blue economy, in order to continue to create the progress our contemporaries demand. And we also need to move forward in protecting the ocean and its resources,” added the Sovereign, mentioning Monaco’s participation in the United Nations Conference on the Oceans to be held in Nice in 2025. The Principality will be hosting a forum on the blue economy and funding as part of the event.

“Rally together all the stakeholders involved”

As well as raising awareness, the Sovereign also wants to rally the stakeholders, particularly the economic players, gathered for the event.

“ We have the ability to rally together all the stakeholders involved around key priorities. We have seen how hard it is to be efficient when we act alone.   […] That is why we have to offer economic players ways of pooling their power in order to leverage it.”  Prince Albert II went on to talk about his Foundation’s actions, as well as the MedFund, a trust fund set up with France and Tunisia, which has since been joined by other public and private players. Through it, significant resources can be pooled for the benefit of protected marine areas in the Mediterranean.

We know the rhetoric, which sees salvation only in decline. Prince Albert II

“ The second area in which we can be of help is identifying suitable projects, by offering scientific and field expertise to all those who wish to become involved. That is why we launched the ReOcean Fund. The aim is to raise 100 million Euros for the development of companies with positive projects. To reduce ocean pollution, to protect the ecosystems, to change our way of producing ocean-derived food, or to develop more sustainable maritime transport…,”   continued the Sovereign, citing the Ocean Innovators platform, which brings together players in the maritime economy.

Prince Albert II Foundation announces ReOcean Fund, an investment fund to protect the oceans

“We know the rhetoric, which sees salvation only in decline.  […] This rhetoric is deadly. It discourages effective action by many people with good intention. It prompts others to adopt the most radical solutions, which are not always relevant. And it deprives humanity of much-needed prospects for progress, when billions of our contemporaries are entitled to a better life, as much as they are a healthy environment,”   concluded Prince Albert II.

Mike Horn has set off from the Yacht Club de Monaco headed for Iceland as the explorer embarks on his four-year What’s Left round-the-world expedition on the 32m ice-breaker Pangaea , 15 years after the first four-year Pangaea Expedition started from Monaco.

Horn, born in South Africa and now resident in Switzerland, is a Yacht Club de Monaco member and has been an ambassador for Sunreef Yachts’ Explorer range of power catamarans since last year. Based in Gdansk in northern Poland, Sunreef recently completed a two-year restoration of the 35m Pangaea (click for article) .

The luxury catamaran builder’s Eco range is a sponsor of the What’s Left campaign, with the Sunreef Yachts Eco logo displayed on both sides of the hull beside the yacht’s name . Panerai, Hexaom, Cummins, Explora Journeys and Yacht Club de Monaco are also sponsors of the expedition.

Prince Albert II of Monaco, President of Yacht Club de Monaco, was among those to bid farewell to Horn on Pangaea , which now flies the Monaco flag. What’s Left has been described as the “last major project” for Horn, who has completed adventurous expeditions all over the world across the last 30 years.

What’s Left will revisit iconic places that marked his career, as well as locations he has not been to yet. The expedition’s purpose is to take stock of the state of the planet, involve students and young environmentalists, and engage with the public.

With Pangaea as the principal mode of transport, the expedition will include the Arctic, the Amazon jungle, Antarctica, Patagonia, the Australian desert, New Zealand, northern Canada, Alaska and Asia, with Horn and his crew spending up to six months in each destination.

“Thanks to extensive research, we know now we have to make every effort to change the situation,” Horn said. “We know sea temperatures are rising, that we have problems with microplastics, that fires and floods are increasing. Nature is in revolt.”

Horn will engage the new generation during the What’s Left campaign by launching the second edition of Pangaea X, the environmental programme for young people. When in Iceland, the boat will bring on board students from the Bionet team, which won the first Pangaea X programme.

By combining exploration, education and an eco-commitment, Mike hopes to inspire a new generation of stakeholders in the planet.

“The aim is to support them as they develop their projects with the help of experts and coaches,” Horn said. “During the programme, teams will learn about concepts such as Business Model, Design Thinking and Business Plan to help them make their idea achievable. It’s only then that they can come aboard and make their project a reality. We then become a platform for execution.”

Yacht Club de Monaco has also reiterated its commitment to environmental transition as it encourages initiatives in line with its collective ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach.

Prince Albert II of Monaco said: “Faced with the climate emergency, it is imperative that living proof replaces the promises.” www.mikehorn.com www.sunreef-yachts-eco.com

HelloMonaco

Did you know? Stalca and Deo Juvante II, two yachts for the Princess of Monaco

Story behind the first meeting of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier

Royalties like any other humans also want to escape from journalists, protocols and other fuss. Everyone needs a quiet place to relax in the circle of just your loved ones. The 25-meter yacht Stalca was one of such private places for Princess Grace and her family.

Stalca yacht

In the early 70’s the princely couple of Monaco ordered a yacht from the Dutch shipyard Visch in Holland. By the standards of the time, it was considered quite large, but still not a superyacht. The English Queen Elizabeth II in contrast owned the 120-meter Britannia built in 1954 and accommodating up to 250 guests.

However, the yacht ordered from Visch was the one the Prince and his wife believed to be ideal for a family vacation. There was enough space to accommodate eight guests and a small crew. The layout of the yacht included a master suite, a VIP room and two double cabins.

prince albert ii yacht

The construction of Stalca was kept secret to avoid its mention in the press. It is therefore not surprising that its original photos are rare to be found. The princely family wanted to keep this part of their history just to themselves.

Surely, you must have heard of the princely family of Monaco . If so, you may guess where the name of the vessel comes from. It represents the initials for the names of Prince Rainier III and Princess Grace’s children: Stephanie, Albert and Caroline. The tradition of naming the yachts mixing in the names of the princely children dates back to 1963. That’s when Albercaro (II) was first launched into the waves. Interestingly, a fire broke out on board before the yacht’s delivery and the princely family had to wait until the next March to receive it. The yacht, however, did not stay in Monaco for long and a year later went to a new owner in Abu Dhabi.

On the occasion of Princess Stephanie’s birth, Prince Rainier III purchased another motor yacht named Carostefal. We can all agree, however, that Stalca still remains a better name for a yacht.

The history of this 25-meter is not yet over. In 2015, during a yacht show in Palma, she found new owners. To comply to international safety standards, some adjustments needed to be made in Stalca’s layout and equipment. The main idea, however, was to keep as closely as possible to the original. Thus she still has a bell engraved «Stalca Monaco».

Deo Juvante II yacht

Another princely vessel worth mentioning is Deo Juvante II. In 1956, Princess Grace and Prince Rainier III took it on their honeymoon sailing along the French coastline, Valencia and Mallorca. The yacht was their wedding gift from the Greek tycoon Aristotle Onassis who showed a considerable entrepreneurial interest in the Principality and had long been on good terms with the ruler of Monaco.

The yacht’s history dates back to 1928. It was built by Camper & Nicholsons’ and launched under the name of Monica for the French-Argentinean entrepreneur Jacques «Santiago» Soulas.  In the late roaring twenties the Soulas family sold the yacht which subsequently kept changing owners up until 1939. During the World War II, it was used against German submarines for military operations near the British Isles. In 1947, the 44-meter yacht was purchased by Onassis.

After the wedding of Rainier and Grace, Deo Juvante II (translated «With God’s help» from Latin) remained the Prince’s yacht for several years. In 1958, it was sold and then changed owners several times.

The yacht is known to have attracted the attention of Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft. He wanted to use it as a shadow boat for his megayacht Octopus. However, by that time the vessel had already been bought by Quasar Expeditions.

The yacht underwent a restoration in the early 2000s and is cruising the Galapagos Islands under the name of Grace. This is a hint to its guests of its historical origins.

Nico Poons and Noah Garcia rewarded

Yacht club de monaco winter cocktail ycm awards – trophée ubs 2023, 21 st december 2023  , nico poons and noah garcia rewarded ycm aims for excellence with robust sports and environmental policies  .

To end 2023 and the 70 th anniversary celebrations of Yacht Club de Monaco, its President HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco joined the YCM family to reward the best results of its racing members with the YCM Awards and its UBS Trophy, celebrate the arrival of new members and unveil the road map for the coming season.

A celebration

“ Allow me first to express my gratitude to every one of you, our dedicated members, valued partners and loyal friends. You all helped make this year such a success. The festivities were a chance to look back on seven decades of yachting and unforgettable encounters”, said HSH Prince Albert II in his opening address.

“ Yachting is synonymous with performance in sport and values that are dear to me,” continued the Sovereign. Indeed, the results were there throughout this landmark year with a gold medal at the Small States of Europe Games in ILCA 4, World Champion titles in the Finn, RC44, Swan50 and 5.5 classes and victory at Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez for the Club’s flagship Tuiga , as YCM’s reputation and international influence continues to grow thanks to its members.

The results reflect YCM’s ongoing quest for excellence that extends into 2024 which promises to be another major year for sport. Ahead lie the Paris24 Olympics and potential selection of one of the Club’s top athletes; the 37 th America’s Cup in Barcelona in which YCM members are involved at the head of prestigious syndicates; and of course the Vendée Globe. This non-stop, solo round the world race without assistance sees Malizia-Seaexplorer , the latest addition to Team Malizia founded by YCM Vice-President Pierre Casiraghi, competing, skippered by Boris Herrmann. “ The idea is to rack up as many miles as possible before the start,” explains Pierre Casiraghi. “We work hard to accumulate experience on our IMOCA to really get to know it ”.

Two generations honoured

A highlight was the announcement of the Trophée UBS 2023 winner. Nominees included top helmsmen, all YCM members, and world champions in 2023, namely Nico Poons in RC44, Edward Wright in Finn and 5.5, Leonardo Ferragamo in Swan50 and Giangiacomo Serena di Lapigio in Swan36, as well as Benoît de Froidmont , winner of the IMA Inshore Challenge, Vladimir Prosikhin , 3 rd in the RC44 World Championship, Graeme Peterson , World Vice-Champion in Swan50 and Joost Schuijff , winner of the Rolex Middle Sea Race (Monohull Line Honours). “ This is a very important evening in the life of our Club. 2023 has been a vintage year with five world champion titles, illustrating the passion which unites us with our members ,” notes YCM General Secretary, Bernard d’Alessandri.

In the end the trophy went to Nico Poons . Winner in 2009, it is the seventh time he’s been nominated, the other years being 2014, 2015, 2018, 2021 and 2022, and again it was his prowess on the RC44 circuit earning him the World Champion title for the second year in a row that tipped the balance. “ I am very honoured to receive this award. It is above all about teamwork. I would also like to salute the other nominees who all have outstanding track records”.

The Club’s youngest sailors were also in the spotlight for the YCM Youth Awards 2023 , with the talented young Noah Garcia winning the top prize after another superb season that included a gold medal at the Small States of Europe Games in ILCA 4 followed by a 4 th place in the ILCA 6 French Championship. “I hope to do even better next year. My goal is to perform well at the next French Championship and keep up the momentum”.

Sustainable yachting another focus of the evening

“ The best way to predict the future is to create it” . In paraphrasing theorist Peter Drucker, HSH Prince Albert II recalled the importance of work being done today to build a sustainable future. The Sovereign cited the SEA Index®, the first carbon footprint calculator for superyachts; the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge which brings together the industry and next generation engineers to test and develop new technologies and alternative energy sources for propulsion; and the YCM Explorer Awards “ which echo the first expeditions led by my great-grandfather Prince Albert I” .

It was also a chance to highlight the commitment of owners, “ witnesses to the state of our planet, like our friend Mike Horn who set off from Monaco on a four-year round the world adventure called What’s Left”. A delegation from YCM had the privilege to join him for a few days in Greenland aboard his boat Pangaea. They ventured into isolated areas to observe the effects of climate change, including the delay in ice forming in the fjords, and deepened their understanding of local ecosystems.

“ We have a responsibility to lead the way and serve as a model to promote sustainability in yachting. For we must act now, collectively, to prepare for the future and write a new chapter in our history that I want to be firmly focused on the environment,” continued the Club President. 2024 marks the 10 th anniversary of the new Clubhouse designed by Lord Foster, since when Yacht Club de Monaco has become a key player driving the Principality’s influence abroad with a robust proactive policy. “ We work closely with the industry’s main players through our think tank to develop international actions” thereby helping to position Monaco as a reference for cutting-edge yachting, reflecting the collective ‘Monaco, Capital of Advanced Yachting’ approach.
