Yacht Club Globe

While waiting to be called for a table at the Captain’s Grille, my daughter checks out the globe in Disney’s Yacht Club’s lobby . I found out some interesting facts about this globe from the Walt Disney World website:

The globe located in the lobby was specifically created for Disney’s Yacht Club Resort and was designed to resemble the styles of globes from the 19th century, but it includes fictitious names and places-and even a hidden Mickey.

Turned out to be a fun Disney Pic of the Week on Hotel Lobbies .

Hidden Mickeys at Caribbean Beach and Beach Club

Beaches are the theme this week! In this post, I will cover the Hidden Mickeys at the Caribbean Beach Resort and finish up the Hidden Mickeys at Beach Club.

Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort

From the Beach Club, head towards the Skyliner station at the International Gateway to Epcot and you will be on a direct line to the Caribbean Beach Resort. The Skyliner is a huge game changer for the Caribbean Beach Resort because it provides easy access to both Hollywood Studios and Epcot. No longer needing to deal with the bus system and during COVID the Skyliner was a great way to socially distance people getting to and form the parks. As the name suggests, this resort has a Caribbean theme and is known for being Walt Disney World’s first moderate resort. As large as this resort is, it only has four “official” Hidden Mickeys in the book. Fortunately, even with the construction that Caribbean Beach underwent in order to make room for the Riviera Resort, all four Hidden Mickeys remain.

Heading first to the main building, Old Port Royale, I walked out towards with body of water known as Barefoot Bay. There is a lighthouse that reads “Barefoot Bay Boatyard” and a classic Hidden Mickey can be found.

On the Grounds

This next one is considered A Real Tuffy , and it does not help that the directions the book gives are no longer accurate as some of the building names have changed. From the new Barbados section, previously known as Trinidad North, walk towards Old Port Royale. Within the concrete, a small imprint of Mickey can be found. I included a close up as well as a wide angle view to get an idea of where to look for this particular Hidden Mickey. You may also notice that I intentionally poured water onto the concrete in an attempt to make it easier to find the Hidden Mickey. I felt like I was in National Treasure 2 pouring water onto the concrete in order to find the next clue to the treasure!

The last two Hidden Mickeys at Caribbean Beach can be found in the feature pool, Fuentes del Morro. The theme of this pool is a colonial Spanish fortress. One Hidden Mickey can be found in the shipwreck play area for children, on the helm of the ship near the wheel. Lastly, by where the slide dumps its riders into the pool, Mickey can be found on the back wall.

Side note, I was noticing while walking around this resort there were bird nests and as I was trying to remember what species of birds they were for, I found a sign. The nests are for the Purple Martins and I know I have seen these nests in Epcot as well. Have you noticed them anywhere else? These birds definitely have a great view of the new Riviera Resort!

Disney’s Beach Club Resort

Now hop back on the Skyliner to finish up the Beach Club. In my last post, I covered the Hidden Mickeys at the Beach Club Villas and will finish this post with the rest of Beach Club. Sadly, many of these Hidden Mickeys have been removed over the years.

Ariel’s

I was not off to a good start with Ariel’s. This space used to be a restaurant; however, the space is now only used for special events. Adjacent to Ariel’s is Martha’s Vineyard Lounge. Here I asked a bartender about the Hidden Mickeys in Ariel’s and they not only confirmed that Ariel’s was not open to the public, but he did not know about the two Hidden Mickeys that were mentioned in the book. He thought that there may be one in the chandelier. One day, I hope to be able to go in and find the two Hidden Mickeys that are described in the book and possibly one in the chandelier as well.

Beach Club Marketplace

Beach Club Marketplace is another location that has sadly lost their Hidden Mickeys. Beach Club Marketplace is the quick service option at the Beach Club. I started taking pictures of Hidden Mickeys almost three years ago. At that time, while the one Hidden Mickey on the picture frame was gone, the carpets with three sand dollars forming a Hidden Mickey still remained. Talking with the Cast Members, they recommended I check out the Solarium for Hidden Mickeys which all of those pictures can be found in my previous post . When the Beach Club had renovations last year, around August through September, the carpet was removed. The Cast Member I spoke to thought that the white picture frame with the gold Hidden Mickey had been moved outside of the quick service location and was used to show the menu (second picture, the menu board to the right hand side). If this was the case, I missed it three years ago and is also no longer there. Lastly, enjoy a bonus Hidden Mickey on their Beach Club Trivia board. This is an awesome idea and allows Cast Members an extra opportunity to interact with guests.

Beaches & Cream Soda Shop

Two more Hidden Mickeys join the category of gone but not forgotten , as Mary Poppins would say. Beaches & Cream is a table service restaurant famous for their ice cream sundaes. All I need is three friends to help tackle the Kitchen Sink! For reference, check out this recipe Disney Parks Blog shared for the Kitchen Sink . The first Hidden Mickey used to be the hamburger press. The Cast Member I spoke with does not believe these are still being used because they got new equipment with the renovation. The second Hidden Mickey used to be in the mural above the seating area formed by onion rings. I have good news. Not only did I capture both of these Hidden Mickeys three years ago, but I was also shown a new Hidden Mickey. On the plexiglass separating the dining room from the kitchen, Mickey can be found formed by Beach balls. I am glad to see that with these renovations Imagineers did take the time to include a new Hidden Mickey.

Cape May Cafe

Another table service restaurant located at the Beach Club, Cape May Cafe pre-COVID used to be a buffet, but is currently being served family-style. Another change since COVID is that Cape May Cafe used to be a character meal for breakfast, but character dining is not currently occurring at this location. Good news is this dining location did open back up on May 18 and I observed lots of plexiglass that had been added, especially between the booths to get ready for their opening. This Hidden Mickey is considered A Real Tuffy , although I am not sure why. As you enter the restaurant, on the right hand side, this Hidden Mickey can be found on a plate with polka dots.

The Hallways have also lost some Hidden Mickeys with renovations. The carpets used to be similar to the ones found in the Beach Club Marketplace, with Hidden Mickeys formed by seashells, bubbles, and beachballs. While there is new carpet from the picture in the book, there are still Hidden Mickeys formed by bubbles throughout the resort.

The next Hidden Mickey in the Hallway is supposed to be found in the wallpaper. Three years ago this wallpaper had been changed and to be fair, when I went recently I did not double check that these Hidden Mickeys were indeed gone.

This next Hidden Mickey is absolutely adorable! Along the walkway around Cape May Cafe, there is a shadow box which contains a sand castle. Waving from the top of the sand castle is a figurine of Mickey.

The final Hidden Mickeys in the Hallways can be both be found in the one painting. Near the back entrance of Cape May Cafe there is a painting of Florida. In each of the corners, there are gold Hidden Mickeys. Along the top of the painting, there are five seashells and each contain a red Hidden Mickey.

The last Hidden Mickey at the Beach Club can be found just off of the main lobby. This is considered A Real Tuffy , and oh boy they are not kidding on this one! I definitely spent a solid 10 minutes just staring at the floor. When I did finally find it, a family with a little girl saw me crouched down attempting to get a good picture. The little girl first stepped right into my shot, then came back to look and see what I had been capturing. She then proceeded to show her father the Hidden Mickey I was taking photos of and I am glad I could share a little magic with her! This Hidden Mickey is located to the right of the lobby, on your way to Beach Club Marketplace. In order to find this elusive Hidden Mickey I used the clue and hint from Hidden Mickeys: Disney World app . From there I was told to look in front of the luggage room door and under a light fixture and I was finally able to find it!

I found one other Hidden Mickey in the new carpet of the lobby. Inside the seashells a red Hidden Mickey can be found. Please also enjoy some photos of my favorite flower, orchids. I do not remember these orchids being in the lobby of the Beach Club, but I could not resist taking some photos!

One last surprise I found at the Beach Club was some extra pixie dust courtesy of Tinker Bell! Very cool, but I do not know why she can be found on the door. If anyone knows, please tell me in the comments!

Toni’s Favorite Hidden Mickey

This concludes the Hidden Mickeys at the beach resorts of Walt Disney World, Caribbean Beach and Beach Club. As I said in my last post, Beach Club has many pros, but Caribbean Beach definitely has an advantage in my mind because of the Skyliner access. My favorite Hidden Mickey between these two resorts would have to be the Hidden Mickey that was found in the lobby’s marble floor. Even though this was a real tough one to find, it is very rewarding when you are actually able to find it and share it with others.

New fiber optic wiring is going in, which affects the   fire alarms , and may affect  data usage and  internet connections  according to the cast members we spoke with.

Hidden mickeys at disney's beach club.

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.
