Explore Wedding Venues in Popular New York Cities

Explore wedding venue styles in new york, explore cruise ship/yacht wedding venues in new york, new york wedding venues.

According to statisticians, there are around 120,890 weddings held per year in New York City. The city ranks number 1 out of all 199 metropolitan areas in the United States for this special occasion, which means that there are a lot of brides, just like you, looking for the perfect venue to host their big day. The good news is that there are many options to choose from in “the city that never sleeps.” As you take steps to narrow the playing field, here are some important facts to help you prepare for what’s ahead.

Are you looking for an intimate celebration on a rooftop overlooking the city, or a grand-scale event in a high-class ballroom? No matter your style, there are plenty of wedding venue options in New York. Here’s the general range of venue availabilities through five popular wedding regions in the metropolitan area.

Manhattan has many offerings, but one of the most spectacular settings isn’t on land...its at sea! These venues emphasize the beauty of the skyline, allowing you to see the best side of New York City. Of course, Manhattan is also known for its modern loft spaces and posh hotels featuring rooftop ceremony spots and gorgeous city views.

Long Island has a very strong Italian influence when it comes to wedding venues. Leonard’s Palazzo and Mediterranean Manor are just two of the many interesting and culturally inspired spaces brides have to choose from. A fantastic addition to many of these venues is the active involvement of in-house wedding planners. Events also are offered the option of having indoor and outdoor aspects, as space is more liberal in this region.

Queens is inhabited by venues that are both spacious and lovely. Brides favoring a variety of styles have happily been able to transform these spaces into the wedding they’ve always envisioned. The ballrooms and reception halls often feature traditional layouts with generous indoor spaces that allow you to invite all your family and friends without the fear of overcrowding. However, weddings of 200 guests or more may find it difficult to find a space large enough in this borough.

The common theme of Staten Island venues is elegance. With names like Grand Oaks and the Island Chateau, these locations are making efforts to utilize the quaint and quiet character of this offshore New York City area to construct a Neo-French Riviera. They invite couples to come have their ceremony on the beach, followed by a refined reception in their glass-walled ballrooms. Some even have their own personal botanical gardens for your guests to wander through during cocktail hour.

If you're looking for a lovely historical or art-inspired venue, Brooklyn is the place to go. Options vary between bayside locations, unique, urban spots, and chic spaces. With around 129 wedding venues throughout the Brooklyn area, all you have to do is choose a view to your liking and see who has set up shop in that area!

Wedding Venue Prices in New York

Venues vary in cost depending on what they offer and how many events they can hold at once. If you're taking up the entire space for the duration of your event, you will most likely end up paying more for it. Also, think about whether you want to outsource your catering, or if you would like your venue to cover the food as well. Location costs alone range from $3,672 - $6,120 in the metropolitan area. This is if you intend on seeking out various other vendors for food, decor, linens, and so on.

Here is another cost you may not expect: tax and service fees. When you start looking at venues, you need to remember that there are state-allowed taxes that tack on surprising in-creases to your bill. In New York State, the sales tax is currently 8.875 percent on all purchases above $110. As for service fees, they are more loosely based on each specific venue. This charge usually varies between 18-20% of your venue costs.

Information and Resources for Weddings in New York

In New York, you must go to a city clerk’s office to apply for the marriage license. The City of New York (like most cities) has an official Marriage Bureau that manages everything from marriage licenses to getting copies of your marriage certificate, should you lose it. The basic requirements for New York application are:

An on-line or in-person application, where you and your spouse must fill out your personal address, social security, and an affidavit declaring that you know of no impediment to your legal union. If you are divorced or widowed, you must provide accurate details of those events as well (name, date of divorce/ death).

One form of “Proper Identification” per person, such as a driver’s license, passport, or a US permanent resident card.

A fee of $35 via credit card or money order.

Licenses are usually given the day of application. It can be used anywhere in New York State, in the span of 60 days from its issue date. You must wait at least 24 hours after its issue to be married.

On Budgeting

The most hassle-free way of approaching your budget is to do a little research before you start spending. After all, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of bridal stress later on. Online forums, wedding blogs, and Wedding Spot can help you estimate what your wedding costs will be.

Most importantly, you don’t need to do this alone! Once you get your bridesmaids in order, have each friend tackle a certain element of the wedding. Let one friend look up research on linen rentals while another gets the goods on your local bakery prices. Money is always a challenge, but you will enjoy your wedding planning process a lot more if you are a peace with your budgeting choices.

Engagement sessions we love, explore the archive, let grey help you plan the perfect wedding, poofy and fabulous, elopements, our top 10 absolute favorites, we’ve fallen in love..., with julie shuford photography, real weddings:, new york yacht club wedding.

Hello darlings! After few days away from town and under the weather, we’re beyond happy to be back in action! To send you off on your weekend, we’re featuring an absolute stunner of wedding sent over to us by the LOVELY ladies of Gabriella New York Bridal Salon .

To go along with today’s post, we have a fun interview with the bride, Caroline! Her marriage to her husband Jason Klein was shot at the New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island by Charlotte Jenks Lewis Photography . Before we go any further however, I’m sure you’re dying to know about the dress. It’s by Anna Maeir Ulla-Maija . Stop it right now–someone get me to  Gabriella New York so I can try it on immediately.

How Did You Meet Your Spouse: On a blind date. We were set up by a mutual friend.

Your Engagement Story: Armed with a special bottle of champagne (purchased on a trip to Napa the year before), a custom LL Bean tote with my new initials (I dropped several not so sublte hints that I needed a new weekend back, but not till I had a new name!), and a beautiful ring that Jason designed himself, Jason proposed at my father’s house in Guilford, CT. We celebrated at our favorite restaurant in town, The Place (an outdoor restaurant where they roast everything over a large fire pit), for lobster, steamers, and their clam special!

What was the inspiration for your wedding concept? We didn’t have a decorating “theme”, but I guess food ended up being the running theme for the weekend (and our lives). Other than wanting the wedding to be simple, beautiful, and fun, we wanted it to be delicious and for everyone to experience some of our favorite foods!

How did you incorporate your love for food into your wedding?

Friday night rehearsal dinner: A BBQ! We served our favorite cocktail to start, Dark n’ Stormy’s and then served burgers and mini pulled pork sliders. For dessert – homemade ice cream sandwiches with rainbow sprinkles! When everyone checked in at their hotel we gave them a bag of our favorite donuts – Apple Cider donuts from Bishops Orchard in Guilford, CT (where my dad has a house). We transferred the donuts to a plain white bag and had a custom sticker designed on Etsy to welcome everyone and let them know these are our favorite donuts, etc.

Wedding dinner: Even though this was a sit down dinner at the New York Yacht Club, we didn’t want the meal to feel stuffy. The chef at the club was wonderful and helped us create a family style menu that reflected some of our most favorite dishes – fried chicken and macaroni n’ cheese! It was the first time they had served these dishes and they were a huge success! For dessert we had simple sheet cakes – red velvet and chocolate.

Favors: As a favor at the end of the evening we handed out bottles of Cholula hot sauce. Cholula is our favorite hotsauce, so much so that we named our little Chihuahua after it (we call her Lula for short). We had another poster made on Etsy to stand on the table, it read: “Hot Sauce So Good We Named Our Dog After It. Please Take One at Your Own Risk!”.

Place cards: On all of our vacations, Jason likes to take photos of EVERY meal and dish we eat at memorable restaurants. This resulted in hundreds of food images taking up space on our computers. We decided to use these as place cards at the wedding. We had tables named after various places we’ve visited (Tokyo, Kyoto, Patagonia, Napa Valley, Atlanta, etc) and at each person’s place setting they had an image of a meal we’d eaten affixed to a beautiful card with their name on it. We then wrote the name of the meal and restaurant on the back of each card. So for Tokyo there were 10 beautiful pictures of sushi, tempura, etc waiting for people when they sat down! Everyone knows that Jason is very passionate about food so it was a great conversation starter!

Items In Your Purse on Your Wedding Day: My grandmother’s lace handkerchief and lipstick!

Your Favorite Wedding Day Memory: After all the stressful big moments were over (like the first dance, speeches, etc) and everything had gone off without a hitch (and truly exceeded my expectations), Jason and I took a moment to just step back, take a deep breath, and appreciate how truly amazing the night was. People were having a fantastic time dancing – my uncle even danced on a chair! To see everyone having so much fun was the cherry on top of this wonderful day and such a relief after months and months of planning. It was an amazing party and that is just what we wanted.

Your Honeymoon Destination: We took our honeymoon BEFORE the wedding and spend a month travelling around Argentina and Chile! We went as far north as the Atacama desert (the driest place on earth!) and as far south as Patagonia and stayed in the Torres del Paine National Park.

Best Advice for Brides-To-Be: I know everyone says it, but really try to slow down, look around, and appreciate every second of the weekend. It truly goes by so fast.

Tell us about your “Bridal Look”…

Wedding Gown Designer:  Anna Maeir Ulla-Maija via  Gabriella New York Bridal Salon // Veil: Sara Gabriel via Gabriella New York Bridal Salon // Jewelry: Fresh water pearl (dangly) earrings from my great grandmother on my father’s side. Worn by my grandmother, mother, and stepmother at their weddings. // Shoes: J. Crew silk, peep toe pumps in Mauve. // Bridesmaids’ Dress: J. Crew Bridesmaids dresses in “Fawn” Silk Taffetta. Each bridesmaid (3) wore a J.Crew cashmere sweater over the dress in different colors – pale pink, bright pink, and coral. Their flowers were a fantastic complement to these sweater colors.

Vendors that helped make this wedding gorgeous!

Wedding Photography: Charlotte Jenks Lewis Photography . She is a very dear friend that I have known since high school! // Cinematography: Our amazing friends the Needlegardens (Matt Bloomgarden and Jenn Needleman have a company – Needlegarden Projects ) shot all of our wedding weekend footage on several flip cams….they even created a “Chuppah Cam” to get footage of us from the Chuppah. We are hiring a friend of theirs to create a short video . // Lodging: Family and wedding party stayed at the New York Yacht Club with us. We also had room blocks at the Newport Marriott, The Viking Hotel, and The Mill Street Inn . // Wedding Ceremony and Reception Location: New York Yacht Club – Harbour Court. Newport, RI // Floral Design: Sayles Livingston Flowers // Cake Design: It’s My Party Bakeshoppe // Wedding Stationary: Spark! Purchased at the Urbanic Boutique in Abbott Kinney, CA. // Hair and Makeup: The Apothecary, Newport // Band or DJ: The Sultans of Swing from Martha’s Vineyard – they rocked!!!

A Classic, White-Tie Wedding At The New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island

CAROLINA SÄVE AND BRYAN NATALE

AUGUST 23, 2014 IN NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND

While studying at his law school’s library, Bryan Natale pointed out a beautiful blonde to his friend, but made no move to meet her. A few days later, the friend called saying that the woman was at the first-year student mixer and Bryan should get down there and introduce himself—which is exactly what he did.

“I’m from Sweden,” says Carolina Säve, “and I was very impressed when Bryan mentioned he had studied in my country.” So much so, that she boldly asked him for his phone number. The couple bonded over their love of food and travel, with Bryan endearing himself through small, thoughtful gestures. “A month into being with him, I knew he was right for me,” says Carolina. It was a lock when Carolina’s mom, critical of past boyfriends, gave Bryan her seal of approval.

“…HOW CAROLINA AND I WENT DOWN MANY PATHS TO EVENTUALLY FIND EACH OTHER MADE ME REALIZE HOW FORTUNATE WE ARE.”

On a trip to Nantucket, Bryan seemed unusually nervous while relaxing on the beach. He began telling Carolina about how much he loved her, and when she opened her eyes, he was on one knee with the ring extended. She said, “Yes,” and moments later, a seal waddled out of the surf and waved at the couple. “People joke that Bryan paid the seal to show up, and I tell them that it ‘sealed the deal’ for me,”kids Carolina.

Because sailing was an integral part of Carolina’s childhood, the historic New York Yacht Club in Newport, Rhode Island, felt “just right” to the bride. The ceremony was held on the oceanside lawn overlooking all of Newport. In a move that was kept secret from everyone, including Bryan, the bride and her father arrived by boat. Their walk to the altar was accompanied by a string quartet.

Rites were recited in English and Swedish so international guests, including Carolina’s grandmother, could follow along. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the flower girls serenaded the couple with a Swedish “summer” song.

The reception employed many Swedish traditions, starting with white tie and tails for the wedding party. Seating, at long tables stemming from the head table, was arranged to ensure that people meet each other. “You mix everyone up,” says Carolina. “You don’t get to sit with your spouse or college buddies.”

new york yacht club wedding

Carolina and Bryan danced a traditional waltz to “Edelweiss” for their first dance, followed by a three-hour, four-course dinner. The meal was accompanied by a multitude of speeches managed by two toastmasters. “Sitting back and absorbing the stories about how Carolina and I went down many paths to eventually find each other made me realize how fortunate we are,” says Bryan. Dancing began after dinner and continued until the 11 p.m. curfew. Then, the newlyweds walked a sparkler-lined aisle to a boat that ferried them to the continuing party at Newport’s Forty 1° North.

The honeymoon began with an exciting helicopter ride over sparkling blue waters to Azura Benguerra Island in Mozambique, where the couple recovered from their whirlwind of entertaining. After resting up, Carolina and Bryan flew to South Africa and checked off a bucket list item with two safaris filled with “amazing” wild animal sightings.

After the honeymoon, Bryan and Carolina returned to their home in Boston where they both practice law.

Why a Charter Yacht is the Ideal NYC Wedding Venue

Yacht-Charter-NYC-Top-Deck-Ceremony

While there is no shortage of wedding venues in New York City to choose from, when it comes to truly interesting, and uniquely special NYC venues, everyone’s pretty much “been there, done that” with all the area churches, synagogues, temples, hotels, ballrooms, and “traditional” wedding venues in New York City. Change things up with a dream like Yacht Wedding overlooking the beauty of NYC! If you’re looking for something extraordinary and truly different — a private luxury yacht or boat wedding in the New York City Harbor is the ticket! It’s a supreme way to ensure your special wedding night will be filled with everlasting memories of unprecedented luxury and the breathtaking beauty of NYC. Our resident NYC Yacht wedding planners will professionally plan the ultimate yacht wedding. We include everything from your bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, reception and wedding; – all from aboard the NYC yacht charter of your dreams. Having a luxurious yacht wedding in NYC also allows you to provide a custom designed atmosphere, complimented by panoramic views, selective cuisine, world class entertainment and service. As soon as you and your yacht wedding guests feel the surrounding luxury, elegant decor and royalty like treatment from your very own professional event staff; you’re going to feel captivated beyond your wildest imagination.

New York Harbor is ideal for charter yacht weddings — providing spectacular views of NYC at any time of year and every time of day. From New York’s early morning in the springtime to the late evenings of fall, you can set your wedding to a backdrop of iconic bridges, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the instantly-recognizable skyline of Manhattan and more. Yachts For All Seasons is a Comprehensive Wedding Investment. Not only does a yacht wedding in NYC give you the ultimate unique wedding venue, it also comes with many of the products and services you’ll need, greatly simplifying your wedding planning. No, weddings hosted on yachts aren’t cheap. But when comparing NYC wedding venues, be sure you’re comparing apples to apples. For example, most of the churches and hotels that offer wedding services do not include any of the other wedding vendors — like catering, florists, wedding themes and decorations, and entertainment. When you price those wedding venues, you’ll have to add all those costs on top of that. But when you opt for a NYC wedding charter yacht with Yachts For All Seasons, you’re getting an all-inclusive price for themes, decorations, a venue for both the wedding and the reception (not to mention the ultimate photo venue!), the catering, and the entertainment you wish to use. We provide a variety of services from live bands to casino games so that you can match your entertainment perfectly to your wedding style and guest list.

Pick the Perfect NYC Yacht Wedding for Your Wedding Size & Style

Yachts For All Seasons offers nearly 60 NYC charter yachts to choose from, meaning you can perfectly match the yacht to the type of wedding you want (traditional or modern, formal or informal), and match the size of the vessel to your guest list. If you desire to have a grander sized NYC yacht wedding, you don’t have to crowd your 1200 guests into a boat designed for only a few hundred people, and you don’t have to rent a gigantic yacht designed for hundreds when you only want to invite 50 of your closest loved ones; that is of course unless that is what your heart so dreams for. The wedding planners at Yachts For All Seasons can help you match the right vessel to your wedding ideals and guest list. Having a yacht wedding in NYC also gives you amazing flexibility in choosing your officiant and how religious (or non-religious) you want your ceremony and vows to be. For example, some couples just don’t feel “married” if a minister or rabbi didn’t officiate. Others want to steer clear of the religious altogether, opting for a family friend or other officiant to oversee their vow exchange. On a boat, you aren’t restricted the way you might be in some of the religious NYC wedding venues. Hey, your cousin can get her license to marry on the Internet and perform the ceremony, if you like!

So many amazing photos to share from this NYYC Newport wedding. We had so much fun with Katy, Peter and all their incredible friends/family and wanted to thank them for being so welcoming and inclusive throughout the entire wedding weekend! There are LOTS more photos share… but here are some of our quick favorites!

Guys getting ready to leave Harbour Court for the church.

We have been asked to photograph hundreds of details while brides and grooms get ready for their wedding. But when your family is involved with the distribution of Budweiser products, we make sure that that part of the story is captured. Hence, my first ring photos ever with Bud Light bottle caps! Hopefully not my last, because these guys were fun!

Crista Petrelli (30, a finance professional) and Luke Downey (30, a finance professional) met in New York City in early 2010 and dated for two years before getting engaged in June 2012. For the proposal, Luke took Crista away for a romantic weekend in Newport, Rhode Island, and then proposed to her at the Bayside Inn.“We were married at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye, New York, which is the parish I grew up attending,” Crista says. “Our reception was at the Larchmont Yacht Club because we wanted a setting overlooking the water. Night brought a beautiful full moon which was gorgeous reflecting off the water. It had a nautical feel to it given the tent was overlooking the water. Our wedding colors were coral and navy and the wedding icon (which appeared on our stamps, menus, invitations and website) was an anchor with a sailors rope around it and our initials ‘C’ and ‘L’ on the inside.’

Crista and Luke's wedding bands look beautiful set on their nautical-themed invitation.

Inside Chanel Iman and Davon Godchaux’s Elopement on a Yacht in the Caribbean Sea

Inside Chanel Iman and Davon Godchauxs Elopement on a Yacht in the Caribbean Sea

Model Chanel Iman and New England Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux first met at a popular beach club in Miami—and in May of last year, Davon proposed while the couple were on vacation in Capri, Italy. “We had always dreamed of this moment, talking about marriage and our future together,” Chanel says of their engagement.

Chanel and Davon began setting a date and planning the wedding as soon as they got engaged. First, their civil ceremony was held in New York on January 10 of this year; then, they eloped at sea on a yacht called the Parillion in the Caribbean Sea on February 24. “We couldn’t wait for football season to be over so we can complete our union,” Chanel says, who gave birth to her third daughter back in May. (She also has two daughters from a previous marriage.) The supermodel planned the wedding herself with the help of Katie Macpherson at IYC Yachts and the Parillion crew, while Katherine Nuna of KBelle’s Design oversaw the florals and decor.

“We planned the wedding the way we desired—doing something together that we love with our kids and our blended family,” Chanel explains. “This was our ideal, dream day. A handful of people attended the wedding—including my best friend and soul sister, Heidy De la Rosa—and we chartered a yacht to sail from island to island in the Caribbean Sea.”

As a long-time fan of Zuhair Murad’s work, Chanel has always dreamed of getting married in one of the Lebanese designer's wedding dresses. “I am so thankful to his team for making it happen for me,” she says. “Season after season, I lust over his gowns.” The dress Chanel chose had an embellished bodice with off-the-shoulder straps and a full, romantic tulle skirt that cascaded across the deck of the boat.

First, however, the bride got ready in a Bronx and Banco dress that her stylist Monica Rose pulled for her. “Designer Natalie De-Banco and I had worked together in the past and had a special fashion bond,” Chanel says. “So when she sent the looks I just had to wear them.” (The bride’s hair was done by Amoy Pitters and makeup by Ivana Medina.) Before the ceremony, time was set aside for extra hugs and cuddles with Chanel’s three daughters Cali, Cassie, and baby Capri, who all wore flower girl dresses by Mona Lisa. “Family is everything to me and having my three girls by my side was so special,” says Chanel. “Cali and Cassie were so excited in the weeks leading up to the wedding. My daughters hold a special place in my heart and sharing this moment with them was priceless.”

The ceremony was held in Anguilla, and took place on the boat before they disembarked for some island hopping. “There were a lot of emotions on the day of the wedding,” Chanel says. “We laughed, we cried, we danced—and made incredible memories together. The trip actually moved us and inspired us to do this annually with our family.”

After the service in Anguilla, the newlyweds sailed to St. Barts, where they danced the night away. “We celebrated for three days on our charter—island hopping and making stops at beach clubs, where it all started,” she adds. Their final destination? Back to Anguilla for their honeymoon at Cap Juluca—the perfect way to end a fantasy wedding at sea.

That said, there was just one thing missing. “It was very heartbreaking to find out that we would have to proceed without one of our four,” Chanel says, explaining that Davon’s son was unable to attend the wedding at the last minute. “We look forward to celebrating our union with him all together at a later date this year [though].” Thankfully, it’s simply an excuse to toast to their family’s future one more time. In Chanel’s words: “This celebration will continue!”
