Shoalwater 19' Cat / Give me the scoop, pros & cons
- Add to quote
I'm looking to buy a new boat, & pretty well settled on a cat, now it's down to what brand. I've read tons of good things about Tran Sport cats from the baby cat all the way to the 24 SVT. But here lately I've been hearing from quite a few folks that they are getting into new Shoal cat 19 for around 28 to 30K. Anyone who owns one, or has ridden & fished out of one, please give me the pros & cons of this particular boat. I've gone to Shoalwaters web page & looking at the 19 it states it runs good from a 90 to 150' but then do in the specs it states max HP is 130 ?????? Which one is it ........I would prefer the 150. Come on Shoal owners educate me Thanks
I've also been told that John over at sport marine just came out with a smaller version of the Outlaw
yes. theres a picture of it in one of the houston boat show threads. I believe the one that was titled boat that caught my eye or something like that
I had the 150 on my 19 and loved it could bet 49 easy prob more if I put a good prop on it but ran dry for the most part and smooth for a 19 ft flats boat. Im moving to the 21 now but the only bad about the 150 was if you had like 3 people in the back she would take water threw the drain holes on the deck idk if they still put those in on the new ones mine was a 09. But you still can't go wrong with a 150 better to have more then not enough. Get it and get ready to run super skinny and never look back.

the 135HO is a bad little motor...
150 all the way don't underpowered it and hate it later on.
shoalwater won't put 150 on any 19 anymore
I looked at this boat hard at the show. Decided against it due to lack of storage....
I agree but i think the one at the show had the single back hatch in the center? Man I would look at the diff dealer and get on with the full back deck. I like the outlaw but i would deff go shoalwater before j&h.
I run a 19 with a 115 E-Tec. Some of the things I like: 8-10" static draft Runs plenty shallow Fishes 3 people comfortably Awesome ride in small chop Fits my family's needs What I don't like: Very sensitive to weight dispersment Plastic hatches Shoalwater has less than stellar customer service. This could be a problem if an issue comes up
Just put my deposit down on my one from the boat show.
In the 18-19' market I'd vote for JH. We had a 19' Shoalwater Cat with a 150. The 150 in my opinion was too heavy. It would take water over the back while drifting. I like to tell people if you think of the 19 Shoalwater as a 16-17' boat you will be happy. If you think of it as a 19--not so much. It also suffers from Cat sneeze. The bigger Shoalwater Cats do NOT suffer from Cat sneeze and are great.
Thanks for everyone's opinions & thoughts, greatly appreciated. I am going to see if John at Sport marine has one of the 18 outlaws for demo....... I demoed the 23 outlaw last year, & absolute awesome boat drives like a Cadillac. But I also want to test ride the 18 SVT & 19 Shoalcat ....... Who ever thought buying a new Boat could be so **** complicated.....
Will do
The 19 footer sits low in the back and will take on water in the back with anyone back there. The 21 and 23 footer are much better about that. The shoalwater cats are great boats and run a lot smoother than flat bottoms and run pretty much as shallow as a flat bottom. I have been on a 19 foot Shoalwater Cat and just really didn't like how low it sat in the back. I guess that's probably the only downside that I can see. I think if you can afford the 21 footer, I think you'll be much happier with it compared to the 19.
Thanks James, I appreciate it. I keep hearing that is one of the biggest issues with the 19. I've got a couple more I want to check out.....might just have to move up a notch
I got a 19cat. My dad & I can fish off the back with no water coming in the back. Maybe you need to drop a few lbs, instead of spending more money....
I'm running a 115 yamaha. Top speed 41mph. Unless you're just being to haul *** 41 mph is plenty fast. For the $ you can't beat the shoalwater. The amount of walk around room is crazy. Hell we even installed another ice chest rack behind the leaning post & their is still plenty of room. It's also very stable. You won't notice people moving around as much as on other boats.
If I was buying a 18 or 19ft boat for bay fishing my choice would be a 18ft Freedom Patriot. It is an all composite, high sided cat that is superior in storage and finish compared to the shoalwater. Check it out before you buy at Rockport Marine inc and Bernies in Victoria. BTW I am not an owner of one they are just a very impressive little boat, worth a look. Good luck
This guy has it right...
The 18' Patriot can be seen in the Tracker booth at the Boat show.
Buy the Tran 19 cat....my 2 cents.
i never got water on back of my 19 cat when i was driftting boat handle water good stable even got in big storm one time and made it back with no problem . was not easy and shower but heck you will showering any boat in storm only reason sold it to go to 23 and not much of different guys 19 cat is badass boat not much of storage thats only problem but lots off ppl don't care about storage anyway i would get a 135H.O on it if i ever buy another 19 goodluck on it you will love it
Oops one more make sure u have the right prop on it before you get in the water …… ask few guys here what size prop they will help you out
I really like my 19 cat. Mine is rated for a 150. My 115 will hit around 41. Handles small chop great. Fishes three great. Looking to upgrade to a 150 in the future.

Shoalwater fishing boats has earned a reputation as the premier fishing boat manufacture through hard work, attention to detail and quality control.. We manufacture many style and models of catamaran style fishing boats, from 19' to 25' Catamaran hulls. All of our fishing boats are center console, featuring tunnel hull design for extremely shallow water running.
Shoalwater 19' Catamaran Fishing Boat. The 19 Shoalwater Cat floats shallower and runs shallower than the 21 & 23 due to less deadrise in the bow and lighter weight. The boat rides excellent in extremely shallow waters and runs well in the moderate chop due to the tunnel hull design.

The Catamaran hull designed that Shoalwater developed truly gives you the best all around performance you deserve.
