It’s All in the Details: Baglietto’s Newest Superyacht, the 48M

  • By Yachting Staff
  • Updated: October 9, 2018

One word sums up the Baglietto 48M: details.

Details like the beautifully book-matched Italian walnut paneling paired with touches of gold and bronze and Canaletto walnut soles in the lounging and dining areas. Luxurious flourishes like these are readily apparent throughout this 157-footer, which will make her stateside debut at the Miami Yacht Show and Palm Beach International Boat Show.

On both decks, the yacht has geometric shapes in the form of creamy leather on the walls and irregular wood inlays. The effect is that of a modern Manhattan penthouse. It’s at once warm yet contemporary.

The same can be said for this mega-yacht’s lines penned by Francesco Paszkowski Design. The 48M’s aesthetic blends the best of traditional and modern design into a sleek profile, a look that hearkens back to the planing yachts that made Baglietto so well-known. Note her furrowed brow created by the reverse-raked windows on the main deck, combined with her lean-forward look and fine entry. It’s aggressive. It’s chic. It’s all in the details.

A constant connection to the sea was built into her design with an abundance of floor-to-ceiling windows.

The beach club exemplifies that connection and is a point of pride for the builder. It offers 506 square feet of space to unwind in multiple ways at the water’s edge. There’s the casually cool and comfortable lounge facing straight out to sea complete with a bar. The fold-down transom creates extra sunning and seating space to entertain. Just inside from the lounge is room for a gym or massage area or, if you prefer, ask the shipyard to turn the entire beach club into a spa.

And those water toys? They stow out of the way on the foredeck, readily accessible but not using valuable living space. Details.

With nearly 3,770 square feet of luxury areas throughout her decks, the Baglietto 48M stands out for her extensive alfresco spaces. One of the best views in the house is up on the sun deck. Encompassing more than 1,506 square feet, it’s the ultimate aerie to take in your anchorage. The infinity pool positioned fully aft is certain to attract admiring glances from fellow yacht owners. Large comfortable sun pads flank it, so several guests can spend the afternoon together. In addition, thanks to the bar and dining table, you can relax and enjoy sundowners and dinner on this deck.

The Baglietto 48M is engineered for a range of 4,500 nautical miles at a 12-knot cruise. Her twin 2,250 hp Caterpillar engines also allow her to reach a top speed of 16 knots comfortably. Speaking of comfortable, the anti-roll stabilization system works while underway and at anchor.

Don’t miss the Baglietto 48M’s debut at the 2019 Miami Yacht Show, February 14 – 18 and the Palm Beach International Boat Show, March 28 – 31 2019, where those details will be on full display.

Best Baglietto Yachts for Sale

Specializing in premium craftsmanship of semi-displacement and full-displacement aluminum and steel superyachts, Baglietto draws from a rich heritage of Italian craftsmanship and innovative design dating back as far as the mid 19th Century. Today the shipyard in La Spezia, Italy, specializes in custom and semi-custom motor yachts up to 200 feet (60m) and refit services for superyachts up to 400 feet (120m). Baglietto yachts are best known for their sleek, contemporary design and state-of-the-art technology.

Baglietto Yachts: Italian Yacht Building Heritage

Founded in 1854 by Pietro Baglietto in a small village near the Port of Genova, Baglietto began with the build of small fishing boats and dinghies, which they built for the latter part of the 19th century. In 1906 the small yard added motorboats to its portfolio with the delivery of the ground-breaking GIUSEPPINA, which at 74 feet (22.6m) was the largest combustion engine-powered cruising yacht ever to be built in Italy. The brand continued to build racing and pleasure boats for which it won world speed records, helping to promote the Baglietto name around the world and attracting prominent clients such as the King of Spain, Pope Leo XIII and Guglielmo Marconi. The next few decades saw both World Wars and high demand for military vessels. Baglietto soon became a specialist in this field, delivering a number of anti-submarine boats that achieved top speeds of 50 knots for the Italian Navy.

Post-World War II, Baglietto started building leisure boats again, specializing in wooden vessels from 32 feet (10m) up to 72 feet (22m). The latter part of the 20th century saw the shipyard changing hands. Under the ownership of the Rodriguez family the yard began producing aluminum superyachts, the first of which was the 150-foot (45m) AL FAHEDI for the Emir of Dubai in 1986, followed in the same year by the 85-foot (26m) CHATO, which at the time of her build was the fastest motor yacht in the Mediterranean, reaching speeds of 62.5 knots during her sea trials and a cruising speed of 35 knots.

Baglietto builds were met with great acclaim; during the 1990s the yard began a series of semi-custom builds, teaming up with up-and-coming designer Francesco Paszkowski. Together they launched the first 95-foot (29m) OPUS in 1994, which garnered much esteem. Soon the company moved to La Spezia to increase its production capacity. Here it prospered, delivering a number of high-profile displacements yachts including the 174-foot (53m) BLUE SCORPION and the 108-foot (33m) MAFFY BLUE. Baglietto achieved abundant success until the financial crisis in 2008. Since then Baglietto has been through a number of acquisitions culminating in its current and prosperous ownership by the Italian road building and telecommunications Gavio Group.

Carrying on the superb Italian-pedigree builds for which Baglietto has become known, the group haS continued to build diverse and innovative yachts

The Baglietto Fleet: A New Era of Italian Superyachts

Today, Baglietto continues the superb, Italian-pedigree for which it has become known for. The group has continued to build diverse and innovative yachts, including its largest yacht to date the 194-foot (59.4m) VICKY. Other recent Baglietto builds include the 144-foot (44m) MONOKINI, the 177-foot (54m) UNICORN, the 151-foot (46.3m) MR. T and most recently the 156-foot (47.6m) sisterships ANDIAMO and SILVER FOX. All of these successful builds have been designed in collaboration with Francesco Paszkowski, whose classic and familiar lines are behind the majority of Baglietto yachts.

Renowned for its high-quality craftsmanship and impeccable interior finishes, exceptional comfort and speed, Baglietto builds are amongst some of the most sought-after superyachts for sale and charter.

+ Craftsmanship

Our history has taught us a profession we have developed over 165 years. Entering the Baglietto shipyard is like venturing into an artist’s atelier, where every detail is studied to craft a yacht that meets the owner’s brief. A team of engineers and architects oversees every stage of the decision-making and construction process, advising the client every step of the way.

+ Innovation

What is innovation if not the ability to take everything that our ambition and knowledge have produced and courageously take it to the next level, towards something that did not exist before? Baglietto has always been on the cutting-edge of yacht design, thanks to its revolutionary models from the MAS to the “islands” series, its materials which led the transition from wood to aluminium, its design, building the first ever superyachts, and performance, designing hulls exceeding 60 knots as early as the '80s. Baglietto continues on this course, taking innovation to the next level with its ongoing stylistic and technological research.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

What to expect on board the all-new hybrid 52m Baglietto T52

Once the brand-new TLine range of superyachts was first announced during a virtual press conference at the Baglietto shipyard in 2020, the success of the line has continued to snowball. Today, the yard has successfully sold two units that are both due to be completed during 2023 in Italy.

The Baglietto construction team soon got to work and began building the first unit, also known as hull 10238. By Christmas 2020, the hull had already been laid during a ceremony watched by the owner via a video link.

Since then, more details about the first T52 have been revealed, including in-depth descriptions of her significant design innovations. Despite a few elements being a new challenge for the Italian builders, the yacht design is said to maintain an essence of the stylistic features of the traditional Baglietto look with a modern interpretation.

What can be seen on board the new sub-500 GT yacht is a three-level stern area that has been completely restyled by designer Francesco Paszkowski Design and features an open beach club that covers all three levels. Also here is a large swimming pool that comes with a unique and exciting function.

When coming aboard, perhaps to join the owner for an aperitivo on the aft deck, guests are able to benefit from having more deck space to gather, mingle and socialise. For such occasions, the large pool can be hidden through the automatic and original up/down moving flooring system. If the pool is required, the three-tiered floor is able to drop down and soon water will begin to fill up the space ready for that super-cool on-deck swimming experience.

Overlooking this area is the sky lounge on the upper deck – another key area of the yacht that has been specially designed to be flexible in size. At the touch of a button, the seamlessly integrated balconies on all three sides of the deck open up to create an extended area. Measuring 24-square-metres long, the space houses a second swimming pool, a bar and sun pads. A retractable ladder directly connects the sun deck and the upper deck at the bow, making the latter a natural extension of the former.

Moving from the aft area into the main saloon, guests are greeted by floor-to-ceiling glazing to keep that all-important constant contact with the sea whilst indoors. Francesco Paszkowski Design also worked with Margherita Casprini on the yacht’s ultra-modern interior.

Elsewhere, a sauna and gym are found in the lower deck’s spa, and the nearby engine room is home to the yacht’s standard hybrid propulsion system that comes with an efficient navigation mode, reducing both costs and environmental impact. When cruising in electric-diesel mode, the T52 will have a range of up to 7,600 nm and will be able to remain at anchor for up to 10 hours on battery power only. Coupled with twin MTU 16V2000M86 engines, she can also reach a maximum speed of 17 knots and a range of 3,600 nm in traditional navigation mode.
