Sneak peek of Marina Village at Bahia Mar, the new Fort Lauderdale food hall and entertainment village on the water | PHOTOS
Standing at the rail on the upper deck of The Shorely, a 499-capacity ferry permanently docked at Fort Lauderdale’s Bahia Mar Yachting Center, developer Jimmy Tate gazes around, smelling the sea-salted air.
“Here’s why our ferry is special: No one can ever block this view,” Tate says, gesturing toward the Intracoastal Waterway, with its nautical painting of megayachts against the backdrop of Fort Lauderdale’s downtown skyline.
“Or this one,” he says, spinning around, his arms theatrically spread open, to face the palm-swept tranquility of Fort Lauderdale beach, where Spring Breakers are sunbathing on the warm sand, where the Atlantic looks like a thick, misty-blue syrup.
It’s hard to beat the panoramic splendor of two bodies of water aboard Fort Lauderdale’s only floating ferry bar.

The Shorely is the centerpiece of Marina Village at Bahia Mar, a $16 million open-air entertainment village scheduled to open to the public in early May. The 250-seat ferry overlooks a mainland food hall, where 10 pavilions line a two-block-wide promenade framed in market lights and native flora. Both the ferry and promenade sit on the eastern edge of the sprawling Bahia Mar peninsula, a space that used to be aging boat slips for fishing charters.
“We’ve got a Water Taxi stop on the south end and a new Jungle Queen ticketing office on the north side,” says Tate, pointing up and down the tree-lined promenade during a recent tour of Marina Village. “These trees create a lush visual barrier so people can enjoy the ocean without seeing cars rushing by on A1A.”
The project is still under construction. On a recent Friday, some workers jackhammered into old sidewalk on the southern end while others laid blue sidewalk bricks farther north.
Almost seven years in the making, the project comes from Tate, the president of Tate Capital , and his partners, brother Kenny Tate and Sergio Rok, who have ambitious plans for the taxpayer-owned Bahia Mar property. Coming soon to the marina are 245 new boat slips, a 256-room resort with 60 condos, 350 residential units in four towers, a 1,200-space parking lot and 87,000 square feet of commercial space.
Promenade aside, the views aboard The Shorely are worth the visit alone, he says.
The ferry is technically three bars — a main full bar on the lower deck and two more on the upper — with each slinging 18 craft cocktails, wine and other seaworthy libations. The man behind the beverages is hospitality guru David Cardaci, whose Knallhart Management Group runs Fort Lauderdale drinking dens The Wilder , Rhythm & Vine and Roxanne’s Liquor Bar & Kitchen .
“How many chances do you get to operate a ferry bar that turns into a nightlife venue, with megayachts on one side and the beach on the other?” says Cardaci, who also operates Holly Blue and Mexican chain The Whole Enchilada. “And there’s another bar that’s right on A1A’s sidewalk. It’s incredible.”
Cardaci came to Tate’s attention via Landon McNeill, an entertainment producer whose Marina Village title is “lead director of daylife and nightlife.” While The Shorely will host DJs on the vessel, the mainland promenade will have “more acoustic acts every day.”
“David is a super-ambitious family man with great drinks, and his bars are great,” McNeill says. “Marina Village is an upscale place, too. That’s why we didn’t open during Spring Break. It’s not a place for party animals.”
The South Florida Sun Sentinel got a sneak-peek tour of the new Shorely, the promenade and the food vendors, which you can check out in many pictures below.
FOOD AND DRINK
- Marina Village at Bahia Mar announced its final three food vendors in March: Taco Vibez, a taqueria that left Pompano Beach’s The Bite Eatery and will reopen here; Sushi Song, a Deerfield Beach-based sushi bar with multiple South Florida locations; and Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls, a Maryland-spawned seafood franchise with another location in Miami’s Bayside Marketplace.
- The other five vendors include: Yip (steamed dumplings, bao buns, boba teas), Quore Gelato (gelato and liquor), Blue Steel Pizza Co. (Detroit-style pizza baked in a blue-steel pan), Fresh Garden Bowls (salads, wraps, fruit smoothies), Burgers & Shakes (Angus beef patties and hot dogs, mahi mahi sandwiches).
- When Marina Village opens in May, roughly half of the food vendors are expected to be open, Tate says, with the rest arriving later this summer. The vendor lineup was winnowed down from a pool of 50 vendors who applied, he adds.
- A 44-seat outdoor mainland bar, lined in navy-blue subway tile, will feature seaglass countertops, six TV sets, beach-themed cocktail glassware and 12 craft cocktails that are distinct from the 18 cocktails aboard The Shorely.
- Fun fact: “These are solid concrete bunkers,” Tate says of the mainland bar and kiosks. “At night, we can roll down these hurricane shutters. They’re rated to withstand a 15-foot storm surge and 180-mile winds. If you got caught in a hurricane, you’d want to hunker down here.”
THE SHORELY
- Decorated in nautical whites, navy blues, tropical-green tile and natural wood accents, the vessel has four VIP cabanas, 120 seats on the lower deck and another 100 seats on the upper, for a total of 250 seats. Part of this seating includes high-top tables and custom sofas lining the perimeter of the upper and lower decks.
- Fun fact: After several decades of shuttling passengers between Fisher Island and Miami Beach, the formerly named Fisher Island Ferry was retired and permanently moored at Bahia Mar’s marina. One of the restroom doors on the upper deck still bears the old Fisher Island Ferry logo, which Tate is planning to keep as a nod to the vessel’s history.
- Its lower deck measures 5,000 square feet, while its upper deck spans 3,000.
- The ferry’s three bars, which are built from solid-wood tambour, have a porcelain backsplash themed with tropical prints.
The promenade
- Taking over two blocks of former State Road A1A sidewalk, the promenade is 35,000 square feet of open space that will seat 350 people.
- The promenade wraps around newly planted palm trees and black street lamps, designed to point downward and away from the beach and its nesting sea turtles.
- A 700-foot-long drink rail runs along the backside of the promenade, overlooking the marina.
- It overlooks 250 linear feet of public docking space, which will be charged to visitors for a to-be-announced fee.
- Eight food vendors will share four 250 to 280 square-foot solid concrete kiosks. Customers can order food from their tables on the Toast app or from the kiosks.

the crew on the boats were so high energy it was awesome they helped off and on the boat Alex Collin and the girl captain great people 200 percent book them for your snorkeling and scuba dives Marcy and Aydyn
Unfortunately the marina is surrounded by construction project currently Loud noise and dust from construction Boat and car was constantly covered with dust There is also a Fire Station and slips /drop off point for water taxi that create constant wakes from morning till late evening The staff is helpful and professional but you need to consider the construction project and the resulting music and entertainment venue that will be rocking the marina nightly

Hi Mark, thank you for your feedback and we understand your frustration. Although we can’t control the hotel construction, we would love the opportunity to speak with you further to see how we can make things right. We enjoyed having you at the marina the past few months and hope to serve you again in the future. Our General Manager, Jeff, can be reached at [email protected]. We look forward to discussing further.
My review of Bahia Mar Yachting Center was on February 1st and was critical of the marina due to the local construction that was impacting part of the marina. The very next morning a 9AM, the general manager of the marina was at my boat to discuss my review. Jeff explained the issues that were within his control and the issues that he had no control over and gave me the options that he was able to offer. I could not have asked for a better result. A service company that has fussy customers stepping up to make the best out of the circumstances. I thank the marina and the GM for their actions.
The Bahia Mar has been my home port for several winter seasons now. I didn't think the experience could get any worse then it was last winter. I was wrong. In the fall of 22, I arrived to find a construction project going on adjacent to B-dock. The noise and the construction dust were annoying but manageable last winter. My hope was that the construction would be completed by the fall winter of 23/34. It wasn't. I returned to find: 1) The parking lot supporting B dock was closed and that the former lot was being used to store construction materials. There are no orange cones warning people of the construction materials. 2) This lot is used as a dumping ground. Cement dust covers the parking lot, thus causing us to track the dirt onto our boats. The cement dust covers the boat causing more washes and wases this winter. Water from unknown sources is dumped in the lot from the construction site. 3) The lighting needed to provide safety and security is not operating. It is impossible to see at night. Someone is going to trip on a pile of debris and then people will start to take note. 4) The noise of the pile drivers, saws cutting cement and related make it impossible to sit on the boat and enjoy the day. No one can doubt that BM is one of the most expensive marinas in South east FL and it is amazing that they charge top dollar for these conditions. No one can stop progress but there are several things the marina could have done to avoid this (in order of my preference). 1) Make sure that the parking area around B-dock was clean and safe for boatowners (and their guests) to access the dock. I am truly embarrassed when I have guest on board. I am certain the lack of lighting and safetly cones is a building violation. 2) They could have understood what the B-dock occupants were going through and adjusted the price of the slips this winter to reflect that. 3) I asked to move to another dock and the answer I got from the marina was I would have to pay more money to be on a different dock. (basically the $6500 I pay now does not assure me clean and safe access to my dock. I am a year round customer of Suntex marinas. At my Jersey marina, when there is an issue, they go out of their way to resolve it. The most disappointing part about this is that no one at the Bahia Mar seems to care.
Bahia Mar Marina is absolutely my favorite place to hang around boats and piers. I spent a lot of time here over the years. If you want to spend the day deep sea fishing you can rent a boat. The yachts are fun to look at too. This is the home of the Bahia Mar Yacht Center. The Yachts are everywhere. As for the fishing, I always love to see the men come in with their catch of the day. When I would spend the day at the picnic grounds across the street from the marina I would come to the marina to buy ice, snacks, and drinks. There's plenty of vending machines. The last time I was here it was well kept. Fishing comes with a price, I don't know the current costs. I'm usually just visiting. It's a beautiful area with the beautiful Fort Lauderdale Beach nearby. I'm recommending a visit based on my happy memories and fun experiences.
You're staying at the top of the line marina in the southeast region of the US. The location, amenities, and staff make it beyond pleasant to stay at. They offer different size slips for any size vessel. The biggest pro is definitely the floating docks, as this makes the experience easy and pleasant on top.
What an amazing experience! Professional, knowledgeable staff, home away from home. Great location, Hilton Bahia Mar hotel is 5-7 mins walk. And the beach just across the road with the safe bridge access. I'll always recommend them and cannot wait to be back.
Beautiful hotel and pool area! I came here on Spring Break with my best friend and my sister and we loved it! HouseKeeping is slow, two days in a row they didn't make it to our room and we were gone all day to give them plenty of time so that was a bummer but our room wasn't that bad. We just made sure to ask for extra towels. Be sure to mention you're a Hilton Honors member as well if you are! There are designated floors for those members. We were Hilton Honors members but didn't get upgraded to those floors...probably because the lady checking us in assumed we were the average college spring breakers which we were not but can't place the blame there. Overall it was nice, food and drinks are pricey and so is the market connected to it but very convenient and beautiful beaches & pool area!
Commonly known as Bahia Mar Marina though bearing lesser known official names of Bahia Mar Yachting Center and Bahia Mar Resort and Yachting Center, it's the marine heart of the city with the reputation of being Yachting Capital of the World, Fort Lauderdale. It's also the prime docking place of the biggest, largest, most lavish and expensive yachts of the world, those of the mega or super yacht class size; vessels with price tags not just in the millions of dollars but running into the hundreds of millions of dollar ranges. No matter what marina you may stop by and no matter where in the world, everyone has heard of or at least knows about Bahia Mar, but not just because the super yachts that dock there, but also because it is the primary site of one of the largest boat shows of the world, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show that attracts tens or thousands of visitors from all over the world. See: http://www.yelp.com/biz/fort-lauderdale-international-boat-show-fort-lauderdale It can handle yachts hitting upwards of 300 feet, has some 250 slips more than 5,000 feet of floating docks and a huge 3,000 for parallel dock. It offers high speed fueling, free Wi-Fi, cable television, a dive shop, specialized captain and crew lodging, a wide variety of electrical power outlet services, a marine store, a gourmet market, fitness center, chartering services from moderate price ranges to the extreme of $1.2 million dollars weekly for the like of certain superyachts such as the Kismet, marine insurance providers, hotel, dinning and marine maintenance amenities, just to name a few. I've hung around a lot of yachting marinas from St. Tropez to Singapore, in between and pretty much all over world, but none of them have any offerings that would be a heads up on those of Bahia Mar. Its marine location is: LAT 26° 6' 42" LON -80 6' 17" with VHF Ch 16 & 67/68 monitored. Also a toll free telephone number: 800-755-9558
Bahia Mar Marina with the 312 foot $200+ million dollar Kismet docked in front.
Beautiful marina with great amenities. Spending the month of April / 2021 here. Lots to do with in walking distance and access to Double tree hotel amenities also.
Great view and the rooms are very spacious but the one thing that ruined my stay here was that the security here isn't great here..my last day here many cars including mine had got hit by many wet balls don't know but we told security and no one did anything. I eve told them what room but by the looks of it they just informed the front desk and that's it...other than that my room the lack of soap for every day I stayed here..I called in and just told them to give me a hand full just so I won't bother the staff. I feel like the place can go a little bit more of maintenance.. the parking lot does share a boat dock and a shopping mall so every time I enter the parking lot I have to get a parking ticket which is a hassle!! But over all great access to the beach and they have a really nice gym!! Better than most places but I would recommend trying other hotels around..great price too
