Sailing Yacht NECKER BELLE is a well proportioned superyacht. The firm of naval architecture whom authored this yacht's design with respect to this ship was Chenus, Presles Et Associes (Cpa). Her initial interior design work was the brain child of Chenus, Presles Et Associes. Chenus, Presles Et Associes (Cpa) was the naval architect firm involved in the professional nautical design work for NECKER BELLE. Also the company Chenus, Presles Et Associes (Cpa) skillfully worked on this undertaking. Interior designer Chenus, Presles Et Associes was charged with the creative internal ambience. France is the country that Jmv Industries (Cmn Group) built their new build sailing yacht in. After the formal launch in 2003 in Cherbourg she was delivered on to the owner after final finishing. Her core hull was crafted from composite. The sailing yacht superstructure is made for the most part using composite. With a width of 14 metres or 45.9 ft NECKER BELLE has sizeable size. She has a fairly deep draught of 4.5m (14.75ft). She had refit improvement and alteration work completed by 2008.

The 3126B engine installed in the sailing yacht is built by CATERPILLAR. She is driven by twin screw propellers (max prop). The main engine of the ship gives 425 horse power (or 313 kilowatts). She is equiped with 2 engines. The combined thrust for the yacht is 850 HP / 625 KW.

When you think of the British Virgin Islands Sir Richard Branson comes to mind. In the BVI he owns Necker Island, bought and is developing Mosquito Island (located just north of Virgin Gorda), and one of the newest additions to his Virgin Limited Edition collection is Necker Belle. Necker Belle is a 32 meter (105 feet) catamaran that is available for sailing excursions. Branson keeps this world class super yacht docked at Leverick Bay, located on the northern end of Virgin Gorda. The waters of Leverick Bay and this area are best known as North Sound.

If your budget can accommodate the 2013 weekly rate of $110,000 US and you prefer an all sailing adventure I’m sure Necker Belle is extraordinary. If your budget is less than 10% of that rate then AnaCapri Estate may be more your speed. A wonderful day trip from AnaCapri Estate is going by ferry to the North Sound area where you can enjoy Bitter End Yacht Club, Saba Rock, Leverick Bay, and possibly get a glimpse of Necker Belle should it be in the area.

A Closer Look at Richard Branson's Yacht Necker Belle

While most people need to save up to even enjoy a package holiday, many rich and famous people have the financial means to buy their own means of taking a vacation. One toy that millionaires may buy itself is a luxurious yacht. They can use this to travel to anywhere in the world while enjoying the luxury of everything that a yacht has to offer. Each yacht is different, and this means that a variety of styles are available that feature different amenities. One particularly stunning yacht owned by someone who is both rich and famous is Richard Branson’s Necker Belle, and he certainly has the financial means to buy and enjoy this expensive toy. According to Yacht Harbour, this 32-meter catamaran was launched in 2009 and it was originally called Lady Barbaretta. In 2009, the yacht underwent a full refurbishment and was then bought by Richard Branson , who renamed the yacht, Necker Belle. He chose this name because he owns Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands.

Yacht Information

Branson had wanted a catamaran for some time as his previous vessel was the motor yacht in which he had broken the world record for crossing the Atlantic. Not a fan of motor yachts, he sold it as soon as he had broken the record and bought the catamaran instead. He based his catamaran at the island after which it is named and used it to sail around the British Virgin Islands and the Caribbean Islands. The interior of this yacht was originally designed by Chenus Presles $ Associates, but the 2009 refit was done by Azzura Marine while the catamaran was in drydock, says Superyacht Times . During this refit, both the interior and the exterior were updated, and a fourth stateroom was added. The year after the refit the boat won the World Superyacht Award for the Best New Refit.

Necker Belle has twin CAT 425 horsepower engines, can cruise at around 10 knots, and tops out at 14 knots. These speeds are achieved because the yacht is made from ultra-light carbon fiber. It has the capacity to host 10 guests in a layout over four large cabins, including a master, a double, and two twins. Each of the rooms is beautifully appointed and has its own en-suite bathroom, a flat-screen, and an iPod docking station. There is also enough space to accommodate six cabin crew. Richard Branson and his guests could also relax in the yacht’s main saloon, which is a spacious and relaxing area. This living space is fitted with bamboo and maple features that give the room a light and calming appearance. There is plenty of room for guests to spread out and relax. However, it is not the guestrooms or the saloon that are the main feature of this luxurious catamaran. The element of this yacht that sets it apart from the rest is what the catamaran offers on its yacht.

The deck is just as spacious as the interior and it is designed with fun in mind. There are several swimming pools on the platform if you want to take a cooling dip when you are in the Caribbean sunshine. If guests prefer to take a dip in the ocean, then they can use the six-foot diving board off the end of the yacht. An open-air cinema is another way that Branson and his guests could enjoy some entertainment. The deck area is designed in the style of a beach club, which adds to the sense of fun of this vessel. Necker Belle also boasts some exciting toys and equipment for guests to enjoy while onboard. Club Yacht says that the yacht also has water skis, equipment for game fishing, scuba diving gear, wakeboards, paddleboards, snorkeling gear, inflatable towel toys, and Hobie Cats.

Branson’s personal favorite toy that he liked to use when he spent time on Necker Belle was the excursion submersible Necker Nymph. Like a mini-submarine, this allowed Branson or his guests to go underwater in a tiny vessel that remained buoyant even when not under power. Branson also enjoyed scuba diving when he was on his catamaran as he loved to explore the underwater environment wherever he went. In the evenings, guests can relax in the warm breeze while sitting at one of the deck’s dining areas. Branson and his guests would often enjoy sipping wines in the evenings, as this yacht boasts its own wine cellar that Branson kept fully stocked. When Richard Branson owned Necker Belle, the vessel was operated by Captain Beez Evans who was supported in the running of the yacht by six crew members. They were responsible for keeping the ship up to standard, preparing meals for Branson and his guests, and generally ensuring that the needs of everyone on board were met.

Final Thoughts

Although Branson loved this catamaran, he decided that it was time to sell. Branson reportedly sold the catamaran in 2018 for its asking price of $3 million. His reasons for selling are not known, although it certainly isn’t that he needs the cash as he is one of the wealthiest men in the world. In fact, Wealthy Gorilla estimates his personal net worth at $5 billion. It is now called Bella Vita and it is available for charter via the company Charter World. The price for you and nine friends to enjoy a week on this yacht is a whopping $70,000. During that week, you will have access to the same amenities that were enjoyed by Branson and his guests. This includes a cabin crew that can fulfill your needs and make your experience on this yacht truly special and memorable . You can enjoy all this while sailing around some of the most beautiful areas in the world and using the Caribbean Sea as your playground. You may make several stops at various islands during your week of sailing, including the British Virgin Islands and the Caribbean Islands.

Luxury catamaran Necker Belle

Last week my colleague and I had the pleasure of being invited on board the 105ft sailing catamaran , NECKER BELLE, for a sail and lunch in the waters of the Caribbean sea . It was a great day to be out on the water, a warm breezy day and the Caribbean sun was shining albeit a little hazy due to the Sahara dust layer that was in the area.

Necker Belle offers accommodation for up to 10 guests, but is best suited for 8, with a master suite, a double cabin and two twin cabins, all with en suite shower rooms, flat screen TV and iPod docking stations. Being a catamaran she is very stable and offers a lot of space from the well appointed state rooms and the indoor salon to the comfortable cockpit, the forward trampoline (a favorite with kids) and the spacious fly-bridge offering a 360 degree view of the sparkling waters of the Caribbean sea. With a crew of 6 and a well stocked selection of water toys you may never want to go back to land again.

Captain Ryan and crew went out of their way to show off the good points of NB, not least of which is a crew that, for the most part, grew up in the BVI, know all the local haunts and how to get things done ‘island style’. This team of 6 crew members enjoy what they do and create an easy informal atmosphere. Luxurious, but not stiff, easy enough to relax with a sumptuous, well prepared seafood lunch in your bathing suit — you may choose to ‘dress for dinner’ during a theme night, but not because you need a jacket & tie.

Cabins are light and airy on the main deck level with a simple spa style decor, but that outdoor spaces are the big plus for this cat: the top deck cockpit for sun worshipers, the huge trampolines forward to feel the sea rushing by underneath you, and the large covered dining cockpit on the main deck.

The master cabin offers stunning views of the ocean through large windows. This room has ample storage space along with a comfy queen size bed, private bathroom with a double basin and shower room. If a lie in is the perfect start to your day, you can snuggle up in bed and switch on your 52 inch LCD TV, watch a DVD or listen to a selection of music through the sound system. Guests can also hook up their iPods for hours of listening pleasure.

Two double VIP guest cabins can be arranged into twins and both have a junior version of the Master Suite's bathroom with shower room.

Other features include a 26 inch LCD TV, DVD and sound system. The double guest cabin, which can not be split into a twin, offers an en-suite, DVD and sound system. All enclosed guest cabins are fully air conditioned. In the evenings an area of the main saloon can be converted to sleep an additional two people, with a privacy screen, separate toilet and shower.

We stock a fine range of wines stored in the vessel's own temperature controlled stores, top quality spirits, beers and excellent house champagne. Dining can be on the aft or upper deck outside, themed or traditional - or a mixture of everything! Before you board we'll send you a preference sheet so you can let us know if you would like something special or just if you have any particular favourites.

HOW MANY CAN SHE ACCOMMODATE?

In total, she can accommodate up to 12 people. Necker Belle has four spacious cabins accommodating up to 8 people. At night, the saloon area can be converted into a double bed with a privacy screen for a comfy night's sleep. The remaining 2 people have the adventure of sleeping outdoors under the stars on the comfy relaxation area located on the upper deck.

Sir Richard Branson designed Necker Belle to be his extended family's catamaran, so it's no surprise that children are positively welcome! We have plenty of things for the children to do: we can teach them to fish, snorkel and wakeboard, plus we have a variety of children's DVDs, toys, books and games onboard. And young taste buds aren't a problem - our chef can whip up tasty kids meals and snacks at any time.

Necker Belle sailing yacht was launched in 2003 by CMN Shipyard in France. Previously named Lady Barbaretta, the 32 metre yacht emerged from an extensive two-year refit in 2009, by Australian shipyard Azzura Marine.

Sailing yacht Necker Belle is part of the Virgin Limited Edition – a collection of Richard Branson’s luxury properties, including Sir Richard Branson's 74 acre Necker Island. Necker Belle, one of the world’s largest all-carbon multi hull yachts, can sleep up to eight guests. The master cabin is located starboard with en suite bathroom and large wall-mounted plasma TV. There is also a double guest room and a twin guest room. The light and contemporary saloon can convert into an additional sleeping berth in the evenings, with privacy screen is.

Richard Branson’s Charter Yacht ‘Necker Belle’ teams up with YachtAid Global

Following the devastating effects of Hurricane Gonzalo that ripped through St. Maarten last month, Sir Richard Branson’s luxury catamaran ‘Necker Belle’ has been assisting Yacht Aid Global in delivering supplies to locals on the Caribbean island.

Once again the yachting community has shown its strong sense of community in helping out with the post Hurricane Gonzalo efforts to provide the families of St. Maarten with much-needed supplies. With just 30 minutes’ notice of what was thought to be a tropical storm had turned into a Category 3 hurricane, the island residents were unable to install proper protection from the elements and considerable damaged was caused.

With the 2014 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show set to open on the 30th October, YachtAid Global Volunteer Event Advisor, Dhardra Blake headed out to see which superyachts would be able to help out. She commented: ‘YAG’s mission simply is to seek out and find like-minded captains and owners to participate in our humanitarian efforts. There are so many yachts which travel close to areas in need, whatever the cause. It’s our suggestion to deploy private yachts as a transport vehicle for donated aid and relief supplies.’

Sir Richard Branson is renowned for his philanthropic outlook and his ‘Necker Belle’ Captain Beez Evans, along with his crew were keen to participate despite his vessel’s short turnaround time. The 32m/105ft luxury charter yacht was then stocked up with relief aid supplies from local yachting industry firms including Yacht Chandlers, Medical Offshore Support Limited, MedAire and The Ditch Kit. In St Maarten IGY Marinas has donated a slip for the offloading of the aid and supplies as well as an overnight stay for the crew.

The St. Maarten recovery efforts are still ongoing and Founder of YachtAid Global Mark Drewelow is still calling for help from yachts: ‘We are still seeking more yachts to deliver needed supplies to Antigua which was also affected by Hurricane Gonzalo, and would like to assist the island in preparation for the 2014 Antigua Charter Show coming up in a few weeks.’

Necker Belle — now Bella Vita — is available for $70,000 a week.

Oh, you thought Richard Branson only had two private islands , a space tourism company, and a new cruise line for you to enjoy? Well, you thought wrong because you can apparently charter his former luxury catamaran, too.

Branson was the long-time owner of the boat the Bella Vita, which used to be called Necker Belle, likely after one of Branson’s private islands, Necker Island. Though he sold the boat in 2018 for an asking price of $3 million, fans of the entrepreneur can still rent the boat for a week so they too can feel like a billionaire.

As the boat’s listing on Charter World noted, the 105-foot vessel “is one of the world’s few very large luxury sailing catamarans.”

And, not only is the boat gorgeous, but she’s a winner too — she apparently won the 2010 best new refit at the World Superyacht Awards.

The boat, which is constructed using ultra-light carbon fiber helping it achieve “impressive 14 knots under power" and making it "capable of speeds in excess of 20 knots under sail."

The catamaran, built in 2003 and bought by Branson in 2009, can accommodate 10 charter guests in four cabins, along with six crew members. The boat comes with a master suite, a double cabin, and two twin cabins, each coming with its own en-suite shower rooms. In each room, guests will find a flat-screen T.V. and iPod docking stations.

Beyond the rooms, guests can also spend time in the boat’s main saloon. As the listing noted, its “spacious interior is furnished with maple and bamboo generating a cool, calm and relaxed atmosphere throughout.”

But, forget all that. According to Branson, the beauty of the catamaran is just how much fun you’ll have sailing it.

"I love the platform of a big catamaran. There's tons of space on board and it's so much more stable than a conventional monohull, so it's great for guests who sometimes feel queasy afloat," Branson previously shared . "I love to have friends on board to explore the nearby islands, and of course the submarine adds another whole dimension to cruising the Caribbean. It's like flying a mini fighter jet under water."

So, want to give it a try? All it takes is $70,000 a week and she’s yours.

Virgin Magnate Richard Branson has recently added a luxury catamaran to his collection of unique hotels. Necker Belle specializes in Whale watching, and every year it follows thousands of whales as they meet at Silver Bank in the Caribbean for the annual mating. During this time, the Whales come to the surface often and are easily seen from the deck.

There is a crew of seven, including a top chef. There is space for up to 12 guests in four cabins, but you might want to sleep on the luxurious upper deck lounge area. There is a diving board straight into the sea for the adventurous, while others might prefer the enclosed swimming areas within the boat. The boat comes with a 12 person fast boat, waterskis, a wakeboard, and diving equipment for 4 divers so you can explore the warm waters of the tropical ocean. Necker Belle boasts its own 3-person aero submarine, which will take you, James Bond-style, on trips underwater.

The Experience

Sir Richard Branson's superyacht Necker Belle helps deliver aid to St Maarten

The skipper and crew of Sir Richard Branson’s catamaran superyacht Necker Belle stepped in to help deliver aid to St Maarten following Hurricane Gonzalo.

Necker Belle partnered with charity YachtAid Global after the hurricane caught the Caribbean island unawares in October, killing one person and causing widespread damage. A total of 37 boats were sunk or written off.

Hearing of the devastation, YachtAid Global volunteer Dhardra Blake sought out yachts at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show would be heading south after the show and could assist in delivering much needed supplies to St Maarten or Antigua.

“YAG’s mission simply is to seek out and find like-minded captains and owners to participate in our humanitarian efforts,” said Blake. “There are so many yachts which travel close to areas in need. It’s our suggestion to deploy private yachts as a transport vehicle for donated aid and relief supplies. With YachtAid Global assisting in disaster relief, literally any region is accessible.”

A series of marine industry connections made the venture possible, with Jessica Price from H20 Yachtwear putting YachtAid Global in touch with Captain Beez Evans of the Necker Belle . He was keen to help, but with a short turnaround time prior to the cat’s departure from Rybovich Superyacht Marina, the aid team needed to move fast.

Relief supplies were solicited from local yachting industry firms including Yacht Chandlers, Medical Offshore Support Limited, MedAire and The Ditch Kit. Yacht Chandlers took care of transferring the provisions to the superyacht, which was berthed in West Palm Beach. IGY Marinas in St Maarten donated a slip for the offloading of the aid, as well as an overnight stay for the crew.

“Working with YAG on disaster relief is a welcome opportunity for us and a meaningful philanthropic endeavor,” said Captain Evans.

The people of St Maarten were expecting a tropical storm and received notice the storm had grown into a hurricane only 30 minutes prior to landfall. With very little preparation time, residents could not put proper protection in place as the storm swept over the island.

Mark Drewelow, Founder of YachtAid Global, appealed for help from other skippers and owners. “We are still seeking more yachts to deliver needed supplies to Antigua which was also affected by Hurricane Gonzalo,” he said, “and would like to assist the island in preparation for the 2014 Antigua Charter Show which opens on 5 December.”

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
