The light would indicate that the transmitter is probably working. Suggest you check the connections in the boat. If all the connections look good, try plugging your receiver battery directly into the receiver without the switch in the circuit. If it works now, then the switch was bad. If it still doesn't work try another battery.

The radios are usually very broad banc 27mhz, and any other Hobby grade rC radio will swamp it out/jamb your radio, and your toy will have an effective range of 10-12 ft. If you spend more, I would still recomend a used boat. Most of the cheaper RTRs also dissapoint with poor sailing ability. Even with a used boat you may still need to buy a radio.
