Southport Yacht Club

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Just back from a few days on the Gold Coast and after having driven past the SYC numerous times we decided to book for dinner and we were certainly not disappointed. The setting is overlooking the harbour and with the open veranda type setting it... was a nice spot. Wife had steak and I had the swordfish and both were perfectly cooked especially the steak which is not as common as it could. Service is mostly ok with the young team members all seemingly keep to learn from a few experienced colleagues. SYC is not a high class establishment but if you are looking for pleasant meal is nice surrounds you won’t go wrong. More

Service was great- the 3 stars is for the service. Food was ok, but getting a bit pricey for what is essentially upscale pub food. What ruined the night for us was the very loud birthday function next to the restaurant. You cannot run a... function like that and pretend that the restaurant is not going to be affected. It is one or the other and it is greedy to do both. There are many other places that charge the same $$$ without the noise, which is a pity because the views are wonderful. More

Had lunch there with a friend last Sunday whilst I was on the GC...atmosphere is wonderful food was very disappointing and expensive..staff were friendly. ..what ever you do don't have the seafood platter it was $100 and nothing like the platters I have had elsewhere... . cold seafood was soggy and not fresh and cooked seafood tasted like it was cooked in old oil..drinks were good. More

Love the location, water views and the service very friendly. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing ! Lamb salad with pumpkin and Persian feta. It consisted of 4 pieces of left over dry roast lamb, possibly from the day before, 6 small cubes of pumpkin... and 1/2 teaspoon of crumbled feta, mixed lettuce with no dressing. The chef should be embarrassed serving this to customers. Although I’m guessing the person serving these dishes it a cook not a Chef. My husband had the fish and was also not happy. Will be back for drinks & for the views but not the food. We were advised by friends not to go because the food was not up to restaurant standards, we should have listened to them. More

Each year a group of friends gather for a reunion at the Yacht Club. This is the Firth year we have gathered for this event. Unfortunately due to our troubled times our numbers this year were reduced. Each year we have been hesitant in returning... because our experience has been so bad. This year was a repeat of the past, a grossly overpriced menu, expensive beverages and subservient attitude of the “Maître de”. Since we were last there, the place has been redecorated with nice plastic furniture. Unfortunately the attitude of the Maître de hasn’t change with his abrupt and unfriendly attitude. Because of the ridiculous high prices for a club we opted for the daily special (Tuesday) Schnitzel Parmigiana (same special as last year) $15.00 and Seafood Chowder $18.00. The Schnitzel was overfried, fat laden refried chips and a packet salad. To be totally honest the Chowder looked like vomit with corn kernels, frozen prawns and dehydrated mussels in a non descript sauce. The hi light being three slices of Turkish bread. Our friends seemed relatively happy with their meals however were quite distressed at the ridiculous prices of desserts. We’ll definitely going to our local pub next year. So looking forward to service with a smile rather than the scowl of the Maître de!! More

A group of us went to the Southport yacht club for New Years Eve 2019. We found it to be good value, well organised with friendly, helpful staff who worked hard to make sure everyone had a good night. The seafood buffet was lovely, plenty... of food, quickly replenished, fresh and tasty. Dessert was lovely, and drinks were reasonably priced. It was a lovely evening sitting outside on the water and we had great views of the fireworks going off around the Gold Coast. The band playing ABBA and Bee Gees was good, although the small dance floor soon got packed. Thank you all for a memorable evening More

With a warm welcome all I needed was to show my drivers licence to enter this beautifully appointed and positioned club. With a view of countless millions of dollars worth of water craft the club's atmosphere is delightful to say the least. We had lunch... there on Sunday and the meal was absolutely sumptuous! The lamb rump consisted of five half inch thick slices on a bed of chats and baby truss tomatoes... wonderfull! And the pork cutlet was huge and accompanied by chats, pumpkin puree and roast apple... spectacular. All this teamed up with the delightful attention of Robert, our server, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome, special and important. This is an elegant, stylish venue that I recommend to anyone finding themselves in the area. More

Beautiful view but worst experience of canapés we have ever had. Canapés are supposed to be delicious snacks with oysters or salmon or some such delicacy but we were served with dry croquettes filled with plain cooked macaroni not even moistened by cheese sauce and... a shallow bread case containing two small slices of red capsicum which was topped with an equally small slice of dry corned beef. We felt very sorry for our hosts who paid good money to have this disgustingly unpalatable food served. More

We are sorry to hear that you had your experience at our Club was not positive. We appreciate your time and your feedback has been passed to the appropriate department. Thank you and we do hope you visit us again and give us another chance.... More

First time - service good and friendly staff - food very good Seafood chowder for entree will fill you up and the oysters fresh and plump. The linguine and pork chop for mains very good. Definitely going back

While it is a Club, one would expect more than very basic meals. Why do chefs insist on leaving prawn tails on when serving them tossed in a pasta dish and not providing a plate or bowl for the tails? Vegetarian is more than a... can of chic peas emptied into a curry sauce. And canned pineapple with two ultra thin slivers of strawberry just don't make the cut next to a pannacotta. More

Was recommended to us. Very disappointing! Sat on deck area which turned out to be so noisy you couldn't hear the person next to you. Also had a wedding reception going on behind us so amp up the noise factor x 3. The food was... very average, 1 meal out of 6 was passable. Forget it if you have any dietary requirements, nothing on the menu for vegetarians or gluten free. More

Service is always good but the food gets worse as time goes on. This place went from great Restaurant quality food at a great price to Pub/Club quality food well overpriced. A example of poor management with no skills in this field. Shame to see... such a great location go to waste. More

We had dinner here last night and we’re so impressed with your lovely staff. Everyone we dealt with were happy and friendly. Our meals, two steak sandwiches, a lamb rump and a chicken with risotto were all perfect and served piping hot. We would recommend... to all! More

Hi There! Thank you for leaving us such a great review & noticing what a great team we have working for us here! We are pleased to hear you love our recently refurbished Club. Hope to see you back again soon!

Lovely location overlooking the Marina and pleasant waitstaff but forget the food. Take your own.The grilled Barramundi was tasteless and soft, looked boiled.Moreton Bay bug pasta too was over cooked,Salt & Pepper Calamari was edible and the kids steak was like shoe leather, over cooked.Portions were quite... small but not the prices. How does an establishment that serves such below par food survive. More

Sad to see a great venue wasted by over priced and very average quality meals. Eaten there many times over the years but has been in a slow decline. They seem to be more worried about office staff than a good quality Chef. If you... mention anytime about a bad meal on their facebook page they block you from commenting. In fact the Manager actually threatened to bar me from the club for commenting about a Mothers Day fiasco there, which I posted. So much competition around the area. I suggest other venues More

The Long and Short of a Commodore

The Long and Short of a Commodore

Commodore Phil Short of the Southport Yacht Club – Interview by Roselle Tenefrancia and Andy Kancachian

Southport Yacht Club, established in 1946, is an association on the Gold Coast, and is at the forefront of the boating community in the city. While focusing on the members, the presence and the services of the Southport Yacht Club have been a significant part of the Gold Coast city. Almost 70 years old, SYC has established its commitment to the Gold Coast boating lifestyle, through strong leadership that has made it a success story among its members, visitors and the general public.

At the helm of the SYC is Phil Short, a man with his own sailing stories, history, humour and leadership goals. This Commodore is a Gold Coaster who is a lifelong fan of boats and sailing, and dreams of a city where every boat – big or small — is welcome on the Gold Coast waters.

From a Sea Scout to a Commodore

Boats and maritime history has been Phil’s lifetime interest. Born and raised in Tasmania, he started off as a Sea Scout when he was 10 years old. “My first boat was a Snipe class yacht, she was a heavy old girl but had a lot of fun, however I never actually raced in this class.”

He moved on to become a member of the Motor Yacht Club of Tasmania, where he learned skills on Navigation Trials on the Derwent River. Deciding to have a go at speed boat racing, he ended up with a Marine Ply 16ft speed boat, with a Singer car engine. “And boy did she go!” he exclaims. “However, as a young teenager I could not afford the up-keep so I sold it and went back to sailing. I sailed Dragon class in Prince Phillip Cup on the Derwent, also Fireball class. The one I enjoyed the most was the 45-foot Ketch ‘Utieka’ — a real classic of her day — that competed in all the Derwent and Channel Regattas.”

He joined the Royal Australian Navy, serving on several units of the fleet, from dock-yard work boats to aircraft carriers that taught him skills in visual communications, ship handling and seamanship. “These skills have been very valuable throughout the years to follow,” he says.

In 1979, he moved to the Gold Coast and became involved in trailer-sailor events, and in the Twilight Races with Southport Yacht Club. “I crewed in the off shore races and competed in several Burleigh Bash offshore events,” he relates. “In 1996 I sailed in the Sydney to Hobart, something every sailor should do, and always was a stand-by crew member. But business does get in the way of sailing until you get your priorities in line.”

He switched from sail to power boating with a classic cruiser in which he competed in the navigation rallies, and also joined the cruising flotilla on several of their events, “ which are excellent for new-comers to boating.” He now has a smaller, faster boat that he relates to as “the Commodore’s Tender”.

“My first introduction to SYC was in 1980, with the experience I gained in the Navy in communications and navigation I became a volunteer instructor at TS Tyalgum Navy Cadets. They have a close association with SYC, with ceremonial functions like the opening of the Club’s sailing and boating season, ‘Sail Past and Blessing of the Fleet’. I made some great friends, and have been associated with the Club on and off since then.”

He was chosen last year as the Commodore of the Southport Yacht Club after holding the position of Vice Commodore Power (of Power Boats) for two years. The position of Commodore requires one to be a Gold Member and to have served in the Board for a minimum of one year. His suitability for the position was also determined through recommendations by Life Members and past Commodores, and through his enthusiasm to volunteer to help when needed by the Board. He says, “I put my hand up to assist when volunteers were called for and was asked to join the Power Boat Committee. I was approached by a past Commodore and asked if I would be interested in putting my name amongst others for the next appointment, for Vice Commodore Power and of course I said yes.” And as they say, the rest is history.

Promoting Boating and Sailing on the Gold Coast

“The Southport Yacht Club has a long and proud history of fostering sailing and power-boating, something we have done since 1946 in a family-orientated environment. The rhumb line has been set by our Past Commodores and Life Members, and this has led the Club to enjoy almost 70 years of camaraderie and boating safety and fun.”

Sailing members are offered 400 sailing events this season at the Hollywell Sailing Academy from as young as seven years old, to sailors on bigger keel yachts racing off-shore. “We have an Olympic Champions from the London Olympics Mathew Belcher OAM and his crew Will Ryan, along with World Champions winning at the ISAF Championships this year as a result for the Hollywell Sailing Academy.”

The SYC has free Discover Sailing Days, held multiple times a year. The Discover Sailing Day is a free event, open to the public within the local community, and aimed at increasing public awareness in sailing, especially among children, promoting the message: Sailing is for everyone – it can be cheap, simple, safe and fun!

Phil explains, “Sailing is the second fastest growing sport in Australia and our playground is the sea. During one of our Discover Sail Day held last year, around 300 people visited the Academy. This was their first step to discover sailing. We plan another of these open days for the end of February 2015. The idea is to introduce children and families to the sport of sailing.”

The SYC also sponsored a free breakfast where people interested in power boat “Predicted Navigation” events were shown an electronic presentation explaining the procedure of chart reading and course plotting. This was followed by an actual event where the participants were taken on board the boats owned by SYC members on a short ‘Ambrose’ rally course up as far as the Coomera River mouth and back to SYC where the Club provided a BBQ lunch.

Even a social member of the Club meets and makes friends with other members, talking boats. “You say that you would like to try sailing or cruising, and before long you are introduced to other members and asked to list your name for a twilight sail. Soon you take your first step towards your dream.”

For over 35 years of living on the Gold Coast, Phil has witnessed the rapid growth along the northern end of the strip, “when as many 15 cranes worked the skyline at times”. He believes that cities are about people and for people, and growth needs to continue to keep the city viable.

“We need to move forward and I believe [the Cruise Ship Terminal] is a step in the right direction. Whether the terminal is built on the Gold Coast or a major terminal built in Brisbane, this would [benefit] the City and the whole South-east Queensland.

“Terminals are also needed around Australia to entice the private super- and ‘mega’ super -yacht market. This will place us on their charts as a destination. I see not only the overseas cruise liner trade, but also other vessels that attract large numbers of visitors to the coast, e.g. tall ships and naval vessels. Short stays as part of the package of existing donut cruises to Sydney-Fiji-New Zealand-Sydney can include the Gold Coast.”

Phil also supports the city council’s proposed foreshore development in Surfers Paradise. “The boating public need pontoons at these places to allow them to stay long enough to enjoy midweek lunches, shopping or visiting. This will open our waterways for residents and tourists to use, especially during the week when there is much lighter water traffic.”

_______________________________________________________________

As a Commodore of the Southport Yacht Club, Phil Short’s main duty is to take command of the fleet, and to attend all major ceremonial occasions along with liaising with the Vice Commodores of Sail and Power and respective committees, whom he refers to as the engine room of the Club. Additionally, his role is to encourage and improve boating participation and recruiting of membership, as well as represent SYC at reciprocal yacht clubs and events in Queensland and interstate.

Superyacht Australia

Southport yacht club’s megayacht berth official opening.

southport yacht club brisbane

Seen by many as Australia’s most progressive yacht club in recent times, Southport Yacht Club, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, has taken another significant step into the future with the opening of its spectacular Megayacht docking facility.

Costing some $9 million to construct, this state-of-the-art floating dock sees the Club align itself with the “spare no expense” international superyacht and megayacht market. It will bring millions of dollars and other benefits to the region on an annual basis. The privately owned vessels that fit the Megayacht classification can range in size up to 130m in overall length..

More than 700 VIP guests, including representatives of the Queensland government, the Gold Coast’s Mayor, Tom Tate, plus Southport Yacht Club’s Commodore, Ken Tregeagle, and General Manager, Brett James, led the celebrations on the eleven huge concrete pontoons that form the massive facility at the club.

John Hogan, whose company, Superior Jetties, applied pioneering technology to construct the pontoons; confirmed that the technology used to create the entire dock was a tribute to Australian designers, manufacturers and engineers.

Designer and technician, Greg Forgan-Smith, said everyone associated with the project deserved recognition.

Australia’s Largest Superyacht Berth ‘Ready by December’

By George Bains

Construction is now well underway at Southport Yacht Club for a new 163-metre superyacht berth, which will become the largest in Australia. The berth is on track to be completed by December of this year, with interest from international superyachts already being registered for January 2021.

The 163-metre beth at Southport Yacht Club (SYC) is an integral part of the Queensland government’s Superyacht Strategy to become a major superyacht hub for the Asia-Pacific region by 2023. The development will cater to larger international yachts looking to head to the region to explore its inexhaustible land and seascapes, taking advantage of the new charter legislations which have opened up new possibilities for superyacht adventures.

Mark Riddell, Waterfront Manager of SYC, outlined the vision of this exciting project. “SYC commenced works on the new Superyacht berth on Monday 17th August, and we envisage to have this completed by December 2020,” said Riddell. “ It will be the largest Superyacht berth in Australia, fitted with enough power to supply the largest superyachts in the world.”

The new superyacht berth has been a meticulously planned project which extends to a development of the surrounding area, with landscaping of a new park to benefit all. “There will be a service road running the length of the berth for trucks and crane access, which will make provisioning easier ,” continued Mark Riddell. “The design of the new dock will ensure easy access to the yachts for maintenance, contractors and suppliers .”

Located on Queensland’s Gold Coast, the Southport Yacht Club is a popular destination for visiting superyachts, catering to every need of owners, guests, captains and crew. Along with Cairns , the Gold Coast is a leading homeport destination within Australia, with a wealth of world class refit facilities and enthralling activities to ensure superyachts are well cared for during their stay. More than its large, secure marina, SYC boasts absolute waterfront dining and phenomenal facilities for entertainment and events, which regularly welcome industry members from across Australia.

Its location along the eastern coastline between Sydney and Cairns makes Southport Yacht Club an inviting prospect for superyachts, especially those keen to uncover the gems of Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This is also a gateway to the majestic Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef region, an area of unparalleled natural splendour with incredible potential for unforgettable superyacht charters.

With this significant development underway, Australia’ s offering for international superyachts continues to grow. Southport Yacht Club aims to have the new 163m berth ready to welcome superyachts from December, and there are already enquiries being fielded for January. With an incredible range of diverse experiences in Australia, along with the newfound charter possibilities, the new berth will help Australia on its way to attracting the largest superyachts in the world.

"It will be the largest Superyacht berth in Australia, fitted with enough power to supply the largest superyachts in the world." Mark Riddell, Waterfront Manager of Southport Yacht Club

Gold Coast gives berth to a new ambition as world super yacht HQ

The Gold Coast has set its sights on becoming the new “superyacht capital,” opening Australia’s largest superyacht berth at Southport Yacht Club this week to snare a major share of the booming billion-dollar global trend.

The 68-metre Lady Christine superyacht, worth $82 million, that’s been in Queensland for a multi-million dollar facelift at the Gold Coast marine precinct. It’s understood to be being used by George Clooney and Julia Roberts for their latest blockbuster being filmed in Queensland. (Image: supplied)

Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate said the opening of the $9 million berth was the city’s “red-carpet moment for the largest superyachts in the world.”

Tate said the facility was designed to accommodate what was then the biggest superyacht in the world, which was the $45 million superyacht Senses owned by Google co-founder Larry Page.

“This facility is 180m long and when we designed it, I said what is the biggest superyacht there is? If the biggest superyacht can fit there, that means everybody’s welcome,” Tate said.

Senses has since been eclipsed in size and scale by the gargantuan $500 million, 127-metre superyacht called Y721 owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

Tate said the Gold Coast’s new superyacht berth, co-funded by the State Government which has also contributed funding for high-tech computer simulations to ensure the safety of large vessels on their way to the new superyacht facility, would be a drawcard to bring owners and sailors of the luxury craft to Queensland.

The Covid pandemic has proved a massive boon for the global superyacht industry, with latest Yacht Industry figures showing the global market was estimated to grow from US$7.4 billion in 2020 to US$10.8 billion by 2026.

As well as Queensland being a destination for the luxury craft, Australian buyers have joined those jumping into the multimillion-dollar trend by splashing out on luxury superyachts, often buying sight unseen.

The splurge has meant an increase in the number of superyachts being delivered to buyers in Queensland and along the east coast of up to four times higher than pre-Covid levels.

Jason Roberts, managing director of Brisbane-based Aurora Global Logistics, Australia’s leading international yacht transport and customs brokerage, said that in the past year there had been close to 40 superyachts brought into Australia, compared to around 10 superyachts in a “normal” year.

Roberts said the superyacht arrivals were also a boon for Queensland and Australian ports.

“Every yacht that comes in usually spends 10 per cent of its value every 12 months,” he said.

“So, if you’ve got a $30 million yacht, it’s spending $3 million per year in the local economy.”

Inflation on the wane but Queensland dragging the chain in latest numbers

Nadia Punselie From RFBYC and FSC, moved permanently to Brisbane and looking for a permanent position – If it’s a good crew I don’t mind starting at the bottom again packing sails and spinnakers as I’m a lightweight and will not bounce the yacht around too much. Would love a permanent position as a bowman on a competitive yacht for both inshore and offshore. Can make time and commit to the right team (I’m running solo, no family or kids). I’m fit and can be your little pocket rocket all rounder.

Ahoy Captains! I am a fit 50 year old keen to retire on the ocean and sail the world. I would like to crew on an ocean going vessel to learn the ropes. I can offer a positive attitude, past military experience, great cook and musically inclined. As a child I sailed dinghy’s, and have always had a love of the water. I hold an Open Waters Divers licence (not dived for 20 years though…) and live locally on the Gold Coast. I start a new full time job 23 November 2023 but can take leave from now for longer trips or free every evening and weekends. Please reach out 0413 80 5353 or [email protected] I am really looking forward to join your crew. 🙂 Steve

Hi everybody,

My name is Stephan, I moved to Brisbane (Indooroopilly) in October 2022 and want to make the best of now living by the ocean. I‘m looking to join a sailing buddy program or a crew that meets on a regular basis. My experience is still limited to only a handful of Events and theoretical knowledge. The sailing clubs in Brisbane unfortunately don’t offer quite what I’m looking for so here I am. I’m offering availability for recreational sailing sessions, I’m highly motivated and eager to learn and once a team has formed, participate in racing events as well.

I just really wanna enjoy the time on the water and make friends along the way. I’m keen to hearing from you and wish you all good wind.

Cheers Stephan

Hi Southport Yacht Club,

I live down in Coolangatta. I don’t have any experience, but want to learn. My dad used to sail but never taught us, he always fantasized about living on a yacht and so do I. Maybe I can make that dream come true. I would love to learn. I’m 35 and fit for my age. I work a physical job so I would be happy working at heights and running around.

I’d mainly be available for weekends!

Kind regards, Sean Greenhalgh

I’m new to the Goldcoast Australia and looking to give as much of my free time as possible to sailing this beautiful coastline. Can anyone help hook me up with some like minded people who might appreciate the extra hands whilst giving someone the opportunity to live out a dream of learning to sail and how to keep a sail boat? I have some experience on the water and have some basic experience, RYA introduction to sailing, power boat level 3 ticket, VHF radio licence but came away from boating some years ago to raise a family and focus on carpentry and joinery. I’m now ready to re explore my old passion for the sea and hope to find some sailors on the east coast who might be able to help. Anything admin can do to help or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 😊 many thanks, James.

Hello James, Please give me a call. I have some crewing opportunities available. 0416925815 Regards, Lea Foster

Hi there, I am brand new to sailing. I spent ten days sailing a tall ship – the Young Endeavour – at age 17. Now in my late 30’s I am wanting to learn the ropes from scratch. Living near Agnes Water but willing to travel within a couple of hours (Bundaberg, Gladstone…maybe Mackay or Sunshine Coast) I do have work and family commitments at home. Only work Thurs to Sat at present so could potentially spend 3-4 day block learning. Happy to contribute financially and practically. Phone: 0435217828 Email:[email protected]

Hi All I am Ben Wilson, and I am 22 years old. During the mornings, I work as a pool lifeguard, but in the afternoons and on the weekends, I am completely free. I have spent the past year sailing on a boat that is 19 feet long, but I am eager to upgrade to a larger vessel so that I may compete in races. Therefore, if anyone is interested in a new crew member, I will be more than pleased to do so.

I am eager to continue my learning journey with more people on the Gold Coast. Reach out on 0450975849 or [email protected] Have a blast out here, and happy sailing!

My name is Paula, my husband and I have recently purchased a catamaran that is in charter in The Whitsundays, my long term plan is to enjoy sailing around Australia, I would love the opportunity to be on the water to learn all the skills required beforehand so am posting here to ask if anyone is seeking crew to assist. I live in Southport, am flexible with my times and willing, fit and able. I will be going through certified courses with AMSA, but do need sea time. Thanks in advance

Hello Paula, I saw that you are interested in getting additional sea time. Does this still apply? If so, I am looking for someone to assist me taking my power vessel from Sydney to the Whitsunday Islands.

I am a 34 yr male looking for crewing opportunities near the Gold Coast. I sailed when I was younger but recently completed the Dingy sailing course and have been hiring boats out on Oxenford lake. I really enjoy the competitive side of sailing so would like to crew on a race, but open to any opportunity. Just wanting to learn and gain experience. I work 9-5 weekdays but that can be flexible.

Hi Tony, I wish to find an ongoing crewing role in offshore and twilight races on the gold coast. Please call me on 0406377982 if your proposal would lead to that. I crewed for a twilight series last year and have just returned from crewing in Hamilton Island race week.

My experience includes 7+ Hobarts, CYCA Blue Waters as well as CYCA winter series. I can do most positions on the boat including Helm, main, Nav. Currently hold Radio, SSSC and FA Certificate. I’m a kitesurfer and wing foiler and I’m keen to crew. My experience is limited to mostly board sailing and kitesurfing, although I did own a small trailerable Hobie trimaran for a few years. I’m out on the water every day as long as there’s wind. Over the years I have developed great forecasting and wind reading skills, as well as a natural knack for getting the most out of the slightest breeze. Happy to teach kitesurfing and/or wing foiling in exchange. I own a profitable Youtube channel and have waterproof cameras and plenty of video and editing skills if you want to do some filming. If you want a reliable and fun crew member, please text me.

Hi, we are a family of 5 ( M, D and 3 x boys aged 14, 12 and 10) and are considering selling our house and buying a catamaran. Before we do that I was wondering if you know of anyone either on the GC ro Brisbane who owns a 45′ to 60′ Cat that would be interested in having us on board for a day to see if we all like the experience? We would be happy to provide catering and/or fuel costs if required.

Watching alot of “sailing Zatara”, “Sailing La Vagabond” and other U-Tubers it has spurred on our interest in the adventure but I think it is neccessary for all of us to experience this first to see if we would like it.

Hi I have been racing in the Twilight series recently, I have done 6 races so far on 4 different race yachts.

Currently looking for a yacht to crew on regularly, I can commit to every fortnight sail on a Thursday twilight series at the moment with hopefully offshore opportunities once a month.

I have completed my keelboat Crewing and helming course and enrolled in my keelboat introductory skippering course next month through Australian sailing. I have skippered a bareboat up at the Whitsundays for two weeks and have done a two day course on a yacht to learn to sail.

I am wanting to complete my keelboat course and continue courses in the future for safety and sea survival, first aid refresher, radio course and offshore skippering and racing.

Please contact me in 0408980955 if you have an availabilities.

Much appreciated

Hi sailors!

I am super keen to crew again, and am searching for any opportunities to get some more experience. I am a quite fit and hard working 45yo, who loves surfing, snorkeling and anything else that involves the ocean!

My experience in sailing includes a sailing course in Rosebay/NSW, where I used to crew on a 25ft, but I haven’t sailed for about 10 years and am really looking forward to being in the water again.

If you need an extra pair of hands, I’d love to be there!

Hi, my 10yo and 12yo son have 1 lesson left of tackers 3 before they start junior fleet. We home educate and they are looking for either early morning before or after school activities to volunteer and help out with so they can learn more. They both like working with ropes, and it would be great for them to get more practise. Any kind of deckhand work would be great. Many thanks, Rebecca [email protected] 0422901596

Good Afternoon, I am looking for crew opportunities. I’m available weekends. I live in Southport and I’m a keen sportswoman. I have completed Competent Crew Cert at Pacific Sailing School, Darling Point Sydney over 5yrs ago. Crew experience on small family boat Sat afternoons racing out of RANSA (Royal Aus.t Navy Sailing Assoc.) Rushcutters Bay Sydney, with a an old Sea Dog, . What I lack in experience I make up for in enthusiasm and life experience. I’m not a child but a very fit and flexible (30something looking) 50yr old. Not a big drinker but keen to learn and get experience as I’d like to do offshore sailing in the future. Please get in touch if you have any spots available. I’m reliable and hardworking.

Hope you are well.

I have completed my sailing course at the Pacific Sailing too, and am also keen to be back on the water.

I’ve moved from Syd a couple of years ago and am trying to find some crew opportunities.

I love sailing, but unfortunately I haven’t met anyone here at the Coast who shares the same hobby, and my hubby is not very keen either!

Perhaps we could go for a coffee at the yacht club and see if we can find a boat to crew on!

My mob is 0487195717.

Happy sailing!

Hey guys, my husband and I are super keen to crew. My husband has many years experience sailing and racing. Unfortunately I’m a newbie but am super keen to learn. I’m a quick learner and am excited about the opportunity and to also meet others, as we are fairly new to the Gold Coast. We are available anytime. Hope to hear from you. Cheers Teena 0466 066 449. PS if you only need experienced crew, then my husband would be delighted to get involved.

Hi Michael, I am looking for some new crew to join the team. We sail the SYC Offshore Series (mostly Sunday’s) and various special events on Beneteau First 40 – Blunderbuss. No experience is necessary, just regular commitment to develop your skills and the team. Let me know if you are still keen.

I’m keen to join in and crew the Thursday Twilight Series. I have little sailing experience however am very eager to learn. I love a challenge, learning new skills and having fun. I’m 35, fit and energetic. M: 0406456096 E: [email protected]

Look forward to sailing soon – Jordan Powell

I’m keen to join in and crew on the Thursday Twilight Series. I don’t have much experience in sailing but certainly like a challenge and learn new skills. I’m 35, fit and energetic. M: 0406456096 E: [email protected]

Look forward to joining in on the fun – Jordan

Hello all, I am keen to crew for the Twilight series and any other race or social sail. I have a little experience and have participated in the twilight racing up here pre 2015. I am free most day and excited to get on the water and be apart of a team. Don’t hesitate to send me a text or call 0468391000.

Looking to return to NZ via yacht in next couple of months. Some ocean sailing experience – Tahiti to Rarotonga.. international radio operators license. +64221829468.

Compared to everyone else on here, I have very little experience. I sailed dinghies as a kid and my partner and I have recently purchased a 36foot monohull. I’d love to be a casual crew member on a boat to get a bit more experience. I’m very good at being told what to do and am pretty fit and confident on the water.

I’m hoping to do a few courses etc before we set sail. But, am just dead keen to get out on the water.

I recently moved to Gold Coast and am hoping to get into sailing here. I lived in Sydney seven years ago and did a year of competitive onshore and offshore races on a Beneteau 32 footer.

I am hoping to get back into sailing and can commit and attend regularly.

Hello all, I am keen to crew for the Twilight series and any other race or social sail. I have experience working on yachts in the Whitsundays and have participated in the twilight racing up there. Hi all, I’m very keen to crew for Hollywell Twilight Series and the upcoming Spring Series. Lived in Whitsundays spending a lot of time onboard Keelboats years ago. I have been cruising and racing all my 55 years; I’m fit and can sail in any position on the boat – from helm to headsail 🙂 I have raced at local, state, national and international levels.

If you’re looking for crew for the Flat Rock race please contact me 🙂

Hello Sailors I have recently purchased and partly refurbished a Shaw 650 Sportsboat (4 Shaw) and need crew for SYC Hollywell races on Wednesday and Saturdays as well as Sportsboat regattas like Airlie beach. Looking for both casual experienced crew and willing to train less experienced who are committed to a regular sailing program. Contact Stephen 0403824281 or [email protected]

Please call me 0422853633 cùrrently in Redland City marina awaiting upgrades to 40 foot sloop ocean going cheers paul ☺

‘No Secrets’ is a race optimised 34′ Dehler Optima keelboat with a competitive race record. I am looking for experienced or semi-experienced sailors to join our crew pool for Offshore and Twilight racing this coming season. Because we have a couple of crew in training at present I can’t take EOI’s from people without sailing experience. What I need are sailors who can come onboard, demonstrate reasonable skills and immediately add value.. Sailing must be your number one priority, It won’t work for me if sailing is one of five other activities (apart from work of course) you have on your agenda. Regular availability is essential as is the ability to communicate. I’m also looking for sailors who understand what commitment means and sailors who can demonstrate that they want to be part of a team intending to succeed at a reasonably high level. If you think this is you, call Tony on 0411 429 527.
