sunreef catamaran reviews

Kayden Scott New Member

I couldn’t be more stocked about my catamaran from Sunreef Yachts. Even though it has been in action for a bit, this bad boy looks sleek as ever with the coolest tech. If its windy out, I’m sailing but if it’s chill, I can just cruise along. Reviewing this kill bill is probs the easiest thing on my list because whether it’s a quick weekend trip or gearing up for an epic transatlantic adventure, the comfort on this thing is off the charts. And have you seen the rooms on this thing?! No less than a five-star staycation and there’s always room for a couple of guests. I’ve a crew of two onboard who manage everything be it anything technical or just serving food you know. Plus, this catamaran comes loaded with luxury sea toys, making it a breeze to hop on and off without the hassle of loading gear. Major props to the management for keeping everything balanced! With a cruising range of up to 3,500 nautical miles, this Sunreef holds it grounds even in rough seas. You won’t feel no motion sickness on this thing, no cap. And the shallow draft? It lets you roll up to remote islands that are usually a no-go for larger yachts. The folks at Sunreef Yachts have been great too, staying on top of inspections and maintenance so we can enjoy this beauty all year round! The first time I took this baby out for a ride, the sails were acting a bit wonky, but Sunreef guys flew out to fix the problem the minute I gave them a ring. I only have good things to say about Sunreef and my boat so imma stop with this review now, peace out. - K. Scott, owner of Sunreef 60 catamaran

In your attempt to positively dilute the discussions on Sunreef that have exposed sketchy business practices and boats that are more hype than substance, you overlooked the tool-set available to forum moderators. Your bio states you are in California. You IP indicates Dubai. When you're hired to write glowing reviews on behalf of a manufacturer, this is FRAUD and it's no surprise coming from Sunreef.

Multihull of the year

80 Sunreef Power

A year on from the release of their new range and the 80 Sail, Sunreef is offering the largest powercat ever built by the Polish brand. The 80 Power, specially designed for propeller propulsion, offers features reserved for the world of luxury superyachting, but in an “economic” mode. We tried out hull no. 2 in Gdansk in an exclusive test.

The sight of tennis champion Rafael Nadal on the aft deck of the brand new 80 Power caused a bit of a stir at last year’s Cannes Yachting Festival. An anecdote that testifies to the ability of this latest model from the shipyard to attract a wealthy clientele, who naturally turn to luxury motor units. Last year, we were surprised by the high freeboard of the sailing version... and even amazed by the habitable volume on offer. This observation suddenly has even more meaning with this motor version: the 80 Power is taking on the monohull superyacht brands that are already well established, with a clientele looking for ever greater comfort and prestige. That said, these buyers have evolved: they’ve become more sensitive to environmental issues. Sunreef's response is as radical as it is effective: with a beam extended to 12 m (39’4”) , a deck height of 2.50 m (8’”) and a length of 23.95 m (78’7”), the living area is comparable to that of a monohull over 35 m (115’) - far more ravenous in fuel to move around and forced to submit to a commercial classification for charter. Aside from the figures and the measurements, the impression of size is even more striking when the 80 is moored s...

sunreef catamaran reviews

Sunreef are famous for producing big, sleek, luxurious sailing and power cats – welcome to the “Baby” of the range: the Sunreef 50.

This yacht from the Polish superyacht builder is a clever move to appeal to sailing couples looking to sail oceans—or head to their favourite cruising grounds—without the need for a crew. They are targeting a similar market to Privilege.

This 50 footer has all the high end spec and design of their larger yachts such as the generous use of teak, luxurious cabins and opulent master suite. You can extend the aft cockpit with a hydraulic platform if you want, or head up to the wet bar and sun beds on the fly-bridge. It’s a fully customisable, top end luxury catamaran.

They call this the Compact Luxury Catamaran. She features many of the characteristics of her larger 60 and 80 ft sisters in 2 50ft hulls and you can sail her without crew. Think of the cash you’ll save!

It’s what Sunreef is all about isn’t it? Pure luxury at anchor and the 50 doesn’t disappoint.

The amount of space you get on the new 50 has to be seen to be believed. Even though this is the Baby of the range, this is by no means a cramped boat by anyone’s definition: Sunreef have used the available footprint cleverly. The saloon is a bit of a Tardis and it spills seamlessly onto the aft cabin with its alfresco dining area and wet bar. Steps lead directly onto a sumptious fly-bridge with lots of seating and lounging areas and the helm of course.

Forward, you can also access the forward cockpit (a feature well developed in Leopard Catamarans), but as you would expect this area is somewhat more luxurious on a Sunreef 50.

In the hulls especially, you will need to get your drawing board out and work with the designers from Poland as this is where much of the customisation takes place. The #1 hull was designed for cruising around the world, so the owner went for a huge master suite, office and bathroom in one hull with guest cabins in the other. This is where the quality of the finish and the sheer available space make these boats stand out compared to yachts of a similar length. Other options include a 5 cabin version with room for crew.

With all this comfort, there has to be a trade off of course, and that is sailing performance as Sunreef catamarans are not the lightest on the market. These boats are all about luxury at anchor and getting you where you need to go in a reasonable time safely. But you are not going to be winning any races at the Voiles de Saint Barth. And to be fair, Sunreef have never claimed otherwise.

Having said that, on the 50, the boat has been set up for short-handed sailing and with the lightwind sails in your sailing locker you should move nicely along in a breeze. With electric winches and furlers and everything working properly, you should be able to handle this boat with one decent deck hand. If you were off on a long voyage though, that high boom height would worry me (problems with reefing lines anyone?), and the exposed helm position is obviously not ideal in 35 knots of wind in a big sea while you are trying to keep a close eye on everyone else on the boat. I think at the very least you’d need to make sure that you had plenty of back-up systems on board to minimise risk.

They will be launching an Amber version – a limited edition model that will come with a carbon mast and boom – that is specifically targeting worldwide cruisers. That should get the weight down and the speed up considerably.

Examples of Launched Yachts

Sunreef 50-01: Paz (Mar 2019). Sunreef 50-02: Trill. (Jun 2019). Sunreef 50-03: Dolphin. (Nov 2019). Sunreef 50-04: Adara (Apr 2020)

Sunreef Summary

Most people who buy a Sunreef won’t be sailing around Cape Horn. They’ll be wanting to cruise safely at 8 knots on a reach to their favourite anchorage where they’ll probably be the most luxurious boat in the bay. And on this count, the Sunreef 50 delivers.

I’m leading this review of the Sunreef 70 power catamaran with a brief stroll down memory lane because when I walked into the 70’s saloon for the first time I was reminded of just that, an airy luxury loft, more often found in a big-city high-rise than aboard a boat.
