Short Answer

Land yachts are a type of sail-powered vehicle that is designed to move over land, usually on a flat surface.

They use a sail to catch the wind and propel the vehicle forward, similar to a sailboat.

The driver of a land yacht uses the rudder to steer, and can also adjust the sail and the height of the mast to adjust the speed.

Land yachts can reach high speeds, making them popular for recreational use.

What is a Land Yacht?

A land yacht is a type of sailboat designed to traverse the open terrain of land rather than the ocean or other bodies of water.

These yachts are typically equipped with a three-wheeled frame, a large sail, and a rotating mast that can be adjusted to catch the wind.

The wheels are used to steer the yacht, providing an exciting and adventurous ride that allows people to explore open areas such as deserts and beaches.

The land yachts design is tailored to harness the power of the wind and its ability to propel the yacht forward.

The position of the sail and the angle of the mast can be adjusted to maximize the yachts speed, while the wheels are able to provide directional control in order to steer the yacht.

Land yachts are a unique and fun way to explore open areas, and have become increasingly popular in recent years.

They provide an exhilarating experience, and can be a great way to experience the outdoors in a new and exciting way.

Land yachting is becoming a popular activity for those looking for an adrenaline-filled adventure, and can be a great way to explore the world around you.

The Design of a Land Yacht

land yacht

Land yachts are designed with a frame that is usually made from aluminum or steel, and can be built in a variety of sizes to accommodate a single rider or a larger group.

The three-wheeled frame is designed to allow for a stable ride and easy maneuverability, and the wheels are typically made from a lightweight material such as plastic or rubber.

The sail is mounted on a rotating mast, which can be adjusted to catch the wind effectively and propel the yacht forward.

The mast is also adjustable to allow for the changing direction of the wind, and the steering of the yacht is done via the wheels.

In addition to the frame and sail, land yachts come with rigging, which is the set of ropes and pulleys that attach the sail to the frame and mast.

This rigging is adjustable and can be adjusted to capture the wind more effectively, allowing for greater speed and control.

The rigging also includes a brake system that allows the rider to slow down or stop the yacht with ease.

Land yachts also come in a variety of styles and designs, from traditional sailboats to modern, aerodynamic designs.

The frame and sail can also be customized to suit the riders needs, with color and design choices available to make the yacht look unique and stylish.

Overall, land yachts are designed to provide an exciting and adventurous ride on land, allowing riders to explore open areas such as deserts or beaches.

With the adjustable rigging and frame, the yacht can be tailored to the riders needs, allowing for a safe and comfortable ride.

How a Land Yacht is Propelled

The key to land yachts is how they are propelled.

It uses the power of the wind to move the vehicle, much like a sailboat does in the water.

This is done by mounting a large sail to a rotating mast that can be adjusted to catch the wind.

The wind then fills the sail, providing thrust and pushing the yacht forward.

The sail can be adjusted to catch the wind coming from different directions, allowing the land yacht to change direction and navigate around obstacles.

The wheels of the land yacht are used to steer it, allowing it to turn in different directions.

The size of the sail is important when it comes to propelling the land yacht.

The bigger the sail, the more wind it can catch, and the faster the vehicle can go.

The size of the sail can be adjusted to suit the conditions of the environment, allowing the land yacht to travel at a comfortable speed.

It is also possible to adjust the angle of the sail to make it more efficient, allowing the yacht to make the most of the available wind.

In addition to the sail, some land yachts also have a motorized propeller that can be used to help propel the vehicle.

This can be helpful if there is not enough wind to fill the sail, or if the terrain is too challenging for the yacht to travel through.

The motorized propeller can also be used to help the yacht travel up steep hills or through shallow waters.

Land yachts are an exciting way to explore open areas such as deserts and beaches.

They provide a unique and thrilling ride, with the rider able to take advantage of the wind to travel quickly and navigate around obstacles.

With a little practice, anyone can master the art of land yachting and enjoy the adventure of exploring new places.

Steering a Land Yacht

land yacht

Steering a land yacht is a unique experience that requires skill and practice.

Unlike a boat that uses a rudder to control its direction, a land yacht uses its wheels to steer.

The wheels are connected to the sail by a complicated system of ropes and pulleys.

By adjusting the angle of the sail in relation to the wind, the yacht will turn left or right depending on the direction of the wind.

Additionally, the wheels can be used to turn the yacht in the same manner as a car.

In order to steer a land yacht, the driver must be familiar with the principles of sailing and the forces that act upon the sail.

The driver must be aware of the wind direction and the angle of the sail relative to the wind.

The driver must also be aware of the terrain in order to choose the best line for the yacht to travel.

The driver must also pay close attention to the rope and pulley system connected to the wheels and the sail.

By adjusting the ropes, the driver can make small adjustments to the sail in order to optimize the yachts speed and direction.

This can be a difficult task, as the driver must maintain a delicate balance between speed, direction, and terrain.

The most important part of steering a land yacht is practice.

With enough practice, a driver can master the art of sailing and be able to maneuver their yacht with ease.

With practice, a driver can become an expert at land yachting and enjoy the thrill of exploring open areas with the wind at their back.

These Are The 10 Coolest Land Yachts Ever Made

These large luxury cars with massive engines dominated the roads in their time and remain a symbol of opulence and success.

Back when roads used to be calm as the sea back in the '60s and '70s, powerful muscle cars roared across the tarmac , turning heads wherever they went. However, there were also land yachts, which were plush, luxurious, and gigantic cars that ran on V8 engines. These full-size luxury cars were some of the finest examples of automotive craftsmanship , with their phenomenally luxurious cabins and massive bodies. Land yachts glided over the road quite comfortably, much like boats on the water. Today, brands like Lincoln and Rolls-Royce continue to craft these amazing pieces of engineering and design.

While every land yacht came with great interiors and plenty of luxury, several across history stood out. Be it due to some special feature they had or just how they looked, some land yachts became more special than the rest, raising the cool factor. In that vein, take a look at 10 of the coolest land yacht cars ever made.

10 Cadillac Eldorado (1971)

Very big and very comfortable, the Cadillac Eldorado was the quintessential land yacht . After all, an old-school Cadillac hit the mark when it came to being huge and luxurious. The Eldorado nameplate was the top end of the brand's rather luxurious lineup, and the 1971 model, in its 9th generation, was the peak of the Eldorado.

A massive 2-door luxury beast that came with the best luxuries and top-of-the-line features at the time, the supreme luxury Eldorado rode on a huge 500 cu-in V8 engine. Churning out 345 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, it was never short on power either.

9 Buick Riviera (1973)

The Riviera is one of the most renowned models from Buick. Buick as a brand stood for great luxury and style, and the Riviera embodied it the best . In its third generation from 1971 to 1973, the Riviera came with a beautiful boat-tail design.

A proper luxury saloon through and through, the Riviera's cabin was one of the most luxurious at the time. The seats were far more comfortable than even the best sofa, and under the hood, the car came with a 455 cu-in V8 unit that churned out 265 horsepower.

8 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost (1906)

The dream car of its day, the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost was launched in 1906, and it remains a collector's dream to this day. This big, beautiful land yacht launched the Rolls-Royce brand , and the manufacturer has never looked back since, sticking to what made them successful and popular in the first place.

The 48 horsepower that the Silver Ghost generated outmatched any other automobile at the time, cementing its name in the history books with its unique, exceptional, and innovative design that put comfort and luxury at the very top. Of course, its price tag reflected that, too .

7 Oldsmobile Toronado (1966)

The first year the Oldsmobile Toronado came onto the scene, it was very well received. The Toronado was Oldsmobile's most stylish luxury vehicle during its golden age. The Toronado was the personal luxury coupe to get, never lacking in power, innovation, or luxury .

The Oldsmobile Toronado made 385 horsepower, thanks to its Olds 425 cu-in V8 engine. In fact, after the 1930s, the Toronado was the first front-wheel-drive American car in decades. Today, one of these babies can be yours for around the $40,000 mark , with some models from 1967 going for as low as $20,000.

6 Pontiac Bonneville (1969)

The Bonneville first came off the Pontiac assembly line in 1958 , and over the next 3 decades, it was the top-notch luxury model for the brand. In its fourth generation, the Pontiac Bonneville came with the same style, luxury, and ride quality that had made the car famous.

This iteration of the Bonneville also came with a stylish slanted dashboard , and the cabin now had a lot of wood, enhancing the luxurious feel inside. With its wide taillights and massive wheelbase, the fourth-gen Pontiac Bonneville was one car that truly occupied every road it went on, armed with a gargantuan 7.0-liter V8 engine that made 360 horsepower.

5 Lincoln Continental (1972)

The Lincoln Continental, in its heyday, was the most luxurious car sold by the Ford Motor Company . The Continental is an American icon, and not without reason. This massive barge was as luxurious as it was huge, and past Presidents, too, agreed.

The Continental, with its great ride quality, plush interiors, and remarkable power, had proven to be a great nameplate for the Lincoln brand. In 1972, the Lincoln Continental was in its fifth generation, loaded with modern specs and the best luxuries money could buy at the time.

4 Imperial LeBaron (1966)

Chrysler first introduced the Imperial nameplate in 1926, as one of their luxury models . Three decades later, Imperial became its own company in 1955, birthing its own cars and sticking to their roots, making them as luxurious as possible.

This included the Imperial LeBaron, which ran on a massive 7.2-liter V7 engine and churned out 350 horsepower. The Imperial LeBaron was undeniably one of America's finest cars from the era , thanks to its contemporary and timeless look, and its state-of-the-art luxurious cabin, which had leather and wood accents.

3 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham (1973)

The New Yorker Brougham from Chrysler sported the styling from the Fuselage, and it stood at a massive 18.5-feet long. Running on a 440 cu-in V8 engine, the Chrysler New Yorker Brougham could have had a lot more power . Sadly, it was the '70s, and fuel and emission standards dictated that Chrysler undertune the engine to reduce power, which only meant 215 horses for the vehicle.

This land yacht came with leather upholstery, a silky smooth ride, and a cabin to die for. Quite the head turner, the Chrysler New Yorker Brougham came towards the end of the era of the land yachts but didn't fail to make its mark on the history books.

2 Mercedes-Benz 600 (1965)

If you'd thought land yachts were limited to North America, think again. How could Mercedes-Benz not have been featured on a list of the best luxury saloons ? 18 feet long, the Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman was meant to be driven by chauffeurs, as most Mercedes cars are.

Meanwhile, you could stay in the back, sipping on the finest liqueur, enjoying the excellent ride quality of the 600 Pullman . Running on a 6.3-liter V8 engine that made 245 horsepower , the Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman was meant to be driven at cruise speeds. Its massive road presence was quite the eye-catcher, and so were its ultra-luxurious interiors.

1 Rolls-Royce Boat Tail (2021)

A $28 million land yacht from Rolls-Royce , the Boat Tail was launched last year in 2021 and got the entire automotive world talking. With 1800 parts that make it ultra-premium, Rolls-Royce only made three models of the Boat Tail, making it one of the rarest and most expensive road-going cars on the planet.

Inspired by the 2017 Sweptail , the Rolls-Royce Boat-Tail is the brand's most ambitious project ever. The highlight of the package is the parasol which extends from the rear deck, which could only be described as a mechanical flower blooming. With rotating cocktail tables, two refrigerators, and the entire car floor acting as the sound system's resonance chamber, the Boat Tail is undeniably the coolest and most special land yacht on the face of the planet.

What Is a Land Yacht?

A land yacht is a large automobile commonly manufactured in the United States (US) from 1950 to 1980. Given the title land yacht for the type of ride and driving characteristics exhibited by the large vehicles, these long and wide automobiles appeared to float down the road when cruising at highway speeds. Commonly given to large, four-door sedans, the land yacht moniker was also given to station wagons and some motor-homes in the 1970s. The large automobiles gave way to smaller, mid-sized vehicles in search of improved fuel mileage in response to the nationwide fuel shortages of the 1970s.

The lavishly appointed interiors of the large land yachts mimicked those of the luxurious, ocean-going vessels the vehicles are named after. Thick padding in the seats create a very comfortable cruising position from which the automobile is piloted. These vehicles are very long and wide, therefore, the bumps of the road are softened by the vehicle's suspension system, resulting in a smooth, boat-like ride. The vehicle appears to float down the road as the heavy land yacht uses extra heavy-duty suspension components to smooth the imperfections of the highway, thereby preventing bouncing. The steering in these large vehicles is often sloppy and unresponsive, giving a feel of a ship's rudder as there is a noticeable delay in response to steering input.

Although very comfortable, the land yacht typically used excessive amounts of fuel that made long, extended trips uncomfortable for the owner's pocketbook. In the height of the American land yacht production, the size of a vehicle's rear fins was often the greatest visual appeal and best selling point. The 1959 Cadillac holds the title of the largest rear fins ever produced on an American automobile, with the Cadillac fins measuring 6-fee-long (1.83m). Excessive chrome and vinyl tops were common options on the large vehicles.

As the automobile began to be downsized in the US, the motor-home began to take on the title of land yacht. The over-sized camper resembled a yacht, with its tall sides and ship-like overall appearance. Another factor that added to the nickname was the appearance of several motor-homes once parked in a campground. The large campers lined up side to side in the campground gave an appearance of yachts in a harbor, all lined up and tied to a dock. On-board bathrooms, kitchens and entertainment systems also added to the yacht-like title for the campers.

Payne: Sailing the screen-tastic Lincoln Nautilus land yacht

land yacht

Palm Springs — Welcome to the 2024 Lincoln Nautilus. Call it the Lincoln Not-like-any-cabin-you’ve-seen-before.

A handsome, high-definition 48-inch screen wraps the front cabin from A-pillar to A-pillar. Like the twin screen sitting on your office desktop, its expanded space allows you to run multiple applications. Which means you can keep your eyes on the road while scanning information including speed, navigation map, Sirius XM channels, range and more.

Cruising hands-free in Blue Cruise down Interstate 10, I rested my hands on my knees and settled back in the comfy leather thrones. Ahhh, a comfortable day at the office.

With its emphasis on quiet luxury (current slogan: “Power of Sanctuary”), Lincoln has been about comfortable cabins rather than carving corners. Let Bimmer, Alfa and Caddy fly around Nürburgring setting lap records, Lincoln wants to fly you First Class. Now, with its Lincoln Digital Experience, the brand has created a high-tech environment to rival other transformative interiors from Tesla Model S, Mercedes EQS and Cadillac Lyriq.

I first saw a pillar-to-pillar design on the Byton M-Byte, a Chinese electric vehicle, at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. It was a showstopper. Byton promised its 48-inch jumbotron would come to market in 2020. Didn’t happen.

With Nautilus, this is Lincoln’s chance to shine. At a dealer in North Miami Beach recently, I heard audible gasps from customers as they opened the Nautilus doors. I haven’t seen butts jump into seats so fast since the Model S screen wowed at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.

Tesla opened boutique stores at high-end malls (think Somerset) across the country so casual shoppers could try on their interiors as easily as fitting pants at J.McLaughlin. Lincoln, which has dabbled in the boutique store market, should do the same.

The 48-inch display works as well in practice as it looks. Like a TV screen paired with remote control, the touchless jumbotron is controlled via a console-mounted 11-inch tablet. Lincoln’s native navi system is run by Google — like Android Auto — and either can be used in the panoramic display’s center.

“Hey, Google, navigate to Idyllwild,” I barked, and the route populated the command tablet and megascreen. I gripped the wheel and eased into Palm Springs traffic for my trip to the San Jacinto Mountains.

The simple steering wheel (Tesla simple and square like a Corvette C8) is slick. It’s squared-off so as not to obstruct the megascreen. Like a head-up display, instrument and navigation information is always in your line of sight. The wheel’s simple interface is anchored by twin touchpads (Tesla uses scroll wheels): volume on the right, adaptive cruise control to the left. It shames over-engineered, button-infested wheels like Mercedes.

My instinct was to glance at the closer console pad for directions, but, with time, my eyes focused on the big screen. Its right half contains three more “pages,” which I filled with radio, trip information and clock. Want to change the selection to include tire pressure? Simply drag ‘n’ drop the icon on the command screen and — bingo! — it's mirrored on the megascreen. A muscular Qualcomm chip makes for smartphone-fast touch speeds, a key to Tesla’s early popularity.

Also like Tesla, the Lincoln system is so cool you forgive Nautilus its dissonate notes.

Lincoln’s engine lineup is weak compared to competitors like Genesis and Mercedes (more on that later). Blue Cruise drive assist is sketchy — turning off multiple times during my interstate test. And there’s a wonky Drive Mode button on the console that doesn’t actually control the modes — it just gives you access to them in the command screen. It’s an awkward process not unlike Tesla’s two-button chore to open the glovebox. Happily, most Lincoln drivers will rarely use SPORT mode. Nautilus is no BMW M4.

Like the Bimmer, however, Nautilus is gas-powered. Lincoln teased a Star Concept EV two years ago, but has resisted the Sirens’ call to full-electrification like other small premium brands. Instead of tearing up its playbook, Lincoln’s refining it.

Nautilus’s state-of-the-art interior is executed atop a familiar gas-powered drivetrain lineup. Customers (Nautilus is part of an SUV family including Corsair, Aviator and Navigator) prize the “utility” in sports utility vehicle for summer trips up north or out west.

For all of Tesla’s innovation, the Silicon Valley brand copied Lincoln’s electronic button transmission for its 2024 Model 3 Highland. Tesla’s shifter buttons, naturally, are in the screen, whereas Lincoln offers hard buttons on the console. I played them like piano keys, shifting the DRIVE button with my middle finger and the REVERSE button with my forefinger as I backed in and out of a parking space.

Once on the road, my hybrid turbo-4 cylinder purred along — a distant heartbeat from the hush-quiet cabin wrapped in acoustic glass and insulation. Despite the premium ride, the engine is Nautilus’s weak link.

The base 2.0-liter sounds like the Ford Escape egg-beater it’s shared with, and the hybrid lacks the visceral authority of a Detroit machine. Genesis, Acura, BMW — even Mazda’s premium CX-70/CX-90 — offer six-cylinder mills. Lincoln follows Lexus to hybrid fours, and it’s worth the $1,500 upcharge over the base engine. Coupled with a smooth CVT transmission, the battery provides good low-rev torque-fill to offset turbo lag.

Also worth the extra cents are the seven cabin scents on offer.

The electronic scent cartridges — standard Mystic Forest, Ozonic Azure, Violet Cashmere and additional Cloud Balsam, Serene Seashore, Twilight Embers and Sunlight Retreat — are loaded, three at a time, into a hidden chamber beneath the armrest. I hesitated at dispensing them, fearing my cabin would be doused in incense.

But the odors were mild and pleasant and complemented my refreshing interstate drive.

Passengers will enjoy the ride, too, as Nautilus offers best-in-class rear legroom (43.1 inches) and a giant panoramic roof so they can enjoy the treetops/sky/stars overhead. The hybrid’s 600-mile range will get you to Mackinaw City and back without ever having to stop at a gas station. Or, ahem, sit at an electric charger.

This rolling yacht is wrapped in a bold Lincoln exterior, including soft-squeeze, Packard-like door handles along the shoulder line. Mirroring the brand’s signature horizontal rear taillight, the front LED lamp now wraps ‘round the front. Lincoln also is hell on wheels (remember the turbine wheels on the Navigator?) and offers head-turning 22s that come with the Jet Package.

Big as it is, Nautilus sweats the little things.

Start with the door handles, then note the no-cap gas filler and double-pull hood tab under the dash so you don’t have to fish around the engine bay for the hood latch.

Buy it and you’ll be that guy giving neighbors interior tours.

The Tailgater is the ultimate weekend gaming platform. Up to four captain’s chairs swivel to face a removable table for playing cards and socializing. The kids can play games or watch movies at the entertainment console complete with satellite TV and wifi for online action. And while mom can take a snooze on the 69” leather couch, the real entertainment happens outside with a trailer hitch mounted bench, footrest and a rear facing flat-screen TV for watching the game. A portable BBQ pit, YETI coolers and portable Bose sound system rounds out the outdoor entertainment experience.

JET 77 Mini

The JET 77 Mini is a luxury upgrade package for the stock Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Passenger van. The upgrade converts an otherwise uninspiring passenger van into a high-end luxury transporter. Both the 144 and 170 versions seat 12. The upgrade includes ultraleather reupholstery and custom stitching for all seats, wool floor mats, a rubber insulated and sound dampening underfloor with 100% wool carpeting throughout. Additional upholstery upgrades include headliner, side columns, side panels, and interior trim. Leather seating upgrade is optional. A sound system upgrade and roof air conditioner paint finishes out the package.

The Cockpit Upgrade Package provides a flare of luxury to the otherwise utilitarian Mercedes-Benz Sprinter line of cargo and passenger vans. The package includes front door and front seat upholstery upgrades with styling improvements, leather accents and custom stitching, leather wrapped steering wheel, and Land Yacht’s custom designed raised armrest that greatly improves posture resulting in less strain on your back and neck. Additional upholstery upgrades include instrument dome, grab handles, sun visors, control panel, center console lid and overhead compartment (if equipped).

The Airstream Land Yacht is One Trailer You Have to See

Land Yacht

To strengthen the Land Yacht theme, Airstream consulted with Mauro Micheli, the acclaimed yacht designer for prestigious Riva Yachts

Airstream has an interesting history of building Special Edition models. In past years, they have offered the contemporary Eddie Bauer Edition as well as the rustic-themed Pendleton National Park Service Edition. One of the latest selective models to be conceived – and a departure from its other special trailer predecessors – is the Land Yacht 28, which was introduced in late 2014 and has achieved plenty of attention across the highways of North America.

Every special edition model that the company devises carries a distinct theme. What makes the Land Yacht so unique this time around is it was inspired by Airstream leaders of past and present – late company founder Wally Byam and current President and CEO Bob Wheeler as both share a passion for recreational sailing. As Byam inspired many traditional Airstream designs from his passion of travel – on and off the water over the years – Wheeler and his design team commemorated that passion into the Land Yacht 28.

Land Yacht

The exterior of the Land Yacht.

To strengthen the Land Yacht theme, Airstream consulted with Mauro Micheli, the acclaimed yacht designer for prestigious Riva Yachts and co-founder of Oficinia Italian Design firm based in Italy. The results were the iconic Airstream profile on the outside with a clean, modern and stylish interior with several forms of function on the inside.

“The Land Yacht is unique as we teamed with Mauro Micheli,” said Bryan Melton, General Manager, Travel Trailers for Airstream, Inc. “With our engineering input, he and his team created the design elements. Our goal was to have a super clean, beautifully appointed interior with attention to every detail. For example, he designed the fridge and freezer to be concealed behind a padded panel, while the cooktop and sink in the galley are concealed with a wood enclosure and built-in aluminum back splashes. They are all hidden providing a refined appearance, yet are easily accessed when they need to be used.”

“Airstream’s Bryan Melton explained that only 45 Land Yachts were scheduled to be built when the model was first introduced. There are only 12 left in the market place across North America and the last one – number 45 – will be completed at the end of September.”

Other key appointments are found in the lavy. While it’s not uncommon for Airstream trailers to feature the shower and toilet/sink in separate areas of the unit, the Land Yacht has an all-encompassing lavy with the essential components in the same space – with fit and finish executed to the tiniest of detail. Another functional design includes the master bedroom. It comes complete with a power memory foam, pillow top queen mattress, plus under bed storage, however, the standard 30-inch flatscreen TV is cleverly located behind a two-way mirror allowing two common functions in one small area.

Land Yacht

The all-encompassing head that includes a shower, sink, and toilet in one ideal location.

Some Land Yacht Standards Include:

• A powered solid wood dinette table* • Power stabilizers • A premium awning package • Comfortable, convertible seating • Power entry steps, • Induction cooktop • The Quietstream A/C unit* • Interior hardware* • A new bathroom design* (*Airstream Firsts)

“With its features, the Land Yacht has a heavy designer influence that makes it incredibly clean and unique with a strong yacht theme, while still making it functional, practical to use,” said Melton. “That’s really what it’s all about. Special editions are meant to take us outside our comfort zone allowing us to set new boundaries. The reward comes from our customers who are seeking something a little different, and our special edition models provide just that.”

Melton explained that only 45 Land Yachts were scheduled to be built when the model was first introduced. “We build only two a month and have since we began this Special Edition,” he explained.  There are only 12 left in the market place across North America and the last one – number 45 – will be completed at the end of September.

Land Yacht

The Land Yacht is available in two interior colors, Mocha (seen Here) and Polar (shown at top).

“The Land Yacht is kind of an ode to the olden days of Wally (Byam) with his dream and passion of travel, adventure and sailing,” explained Melton. “This model represents the most luxurious Airstream model, with fine detailing and design elements throughout. Once #45 rolls out of the factory, we will temporary suspend the famous Land Yacht badge.”

While Special Edition models from Airstream (including the Land Yacht) have a scheduled life span in the consumer marketplace, the influence and design that are incorporated into these models commonly stay within the Airstream brands. There were a series of features introduced in the Land Yacht, with the most popular being the Quietstream ducted A/C, which has become standard on all but the Sport Airstream models.

“It doesn’t come down to how many Special Edition units we sell, it’s about creating truly unique models that allow our team, and those we partner with a creative outlet to try new ideas.,” said Melton. “When you remove certain constraints, you allow engineers and designers to maximize their creativity. The results are truly special, like the Land Yacht, which continue to make strong statements within Airstream’s prolific history.”

The New Land Yacht Aiming to Break a Land Speed Record

America's cup-winning emirates team new zealand is attempting to break the wind-powered record.

When I hear the term land yacht, the first kind of vehicle that comes to mind is either a full-size luxury sedan or an SUV. Could you imagine a Cadillac Escalade setting a land speed record? Not me. Though, there’s a new literal land-going sailing yacht looking to raise the bar. Emirates Team New Zealand, the America’s Cup-winning sailing team, has launched a land yacht to attempt to break the wind-powered land speed record later this year. The current wind-powered land speed is 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h), set in 2009.

Earlier this week, Team New Zealand officially unveiled its land speed record challenger, the Horonuku. The vehicle will be powered, for lack of a better term, by a 10-meter (32.8 feet) tall rigid carbon-fiber wingsail. The wingsail is designed to propel the land yacht up to 155.3 mph (250 km/h) if the conditions allow.

Glenn Ashby will pilot the vehicle. Ashby has won two America’s Cup Matches as a sailor with Team New Zealand. He said in a statement:

“There is definitely an element of needing the stars to align when achieving a world record like this where you need the conditions on the ground and in the air to be perfect. It is our job now over the next month or so, to get as much useful testing as we possibly can done here in Auckland, before we put Horonuku on a ship to Lake Gairdner to continue testing and tuning on the salt lake so we are ready to roll when a weather window comes along.”

Emirates Team New Zealand and the Horonuku are expected to make their record attempt in August on Lake Gairdner, a salt lake in South Australia. To break the record, all Ashby has to do is exceed 126.1 mph for three seconds during his run. The sailing team is also preparing for their next America’s Cup Match in 2024 in Barcelona, Spain.

Luxury motor yacht Ferretti 530

Luxury yacht Ferretti 530 was very keen to undertake in collaboration once again with AYT – Advanced Yacht Technology, Ferretti Group Engineering Division and Studio Zuccon International Project . The compact dimensions, 16 meters long and almost 5 meters wide, allow the 530 yacht to deliver grand Italian luxury and cruising immersed in such comfort until now unheard of in a yacht of this size.

Ferretti 530 yacht boasts three revolutionary innovations: the full beam master cabin with chaise longue and two large open view windows that make it a real suite at sea level bathed in light, tones and the natural essences of teak. Moving the galley from the center to the aft section creates a unique open space that includes the saloon, galley, cocktail bar and the dining area, the cockpit area continues thanks to the tilting window. The roll bar free sky lounge and the spoiler allow the 530 a sporty appearance combined with elegantly formal lines.

Riva , the iconic Ferretti Group brand, presented a new model at the historical Lake d’Iseo shipyards in July 2011. Featuring elegance and ease of transportation as its distinctive characteristics, Iseo superyacht tender , a 27 foot runabout, is destined to become a must-have for those who love cruising on both lakes and the sea, and, most importantly, design enthusiasts. It is also perfect for anyone wishing to enhance their yacht with an exclusive tender that will never go unnoticed.

Due to its ease of manoeuvrability and size, Iseo yacht tender is also ideal as a tender for large yachts. Innovative and elegant, it can also guarantee comfort in bad weather conditions. Besides the electrohydraulic bimini top, it was also designed with a waterproof, automobile-style soft top which protects those on board against water and the wind during cruising.
