First Look: Meet the Apreamare 88 Motoryacht Flagship
- By Yachting Staff
- September 4, 2024
Apreamare, which has been turning out stylish Italian cruising boats since 1988, is preparing for the debut of its new flagship model: the Maestro 88.
The yacht is scheduled to premiere from September 19-24 at the Genoa Boat Show in Italy. It joins the Gozzo range that includes a Gozzo 38 Cabin , Gozzo 45 and Gozzo 35.
With the Maestro 88, Apreamare is adding a flagship that is also the largest vessel the shipyard has ever built. It’s being marketed as a “gentleman’s navetta” with a planing hull and full customization options.
Apreamare worked with designer Marco Casali and engineer Umberto Tagliavini to reinterpret and update the Maestro line. Casali—who got his start working with the Ferretti Group before opening Too Design in 2004—posted on LinkedIn that the Maestro 88 was created for a longtime Maestro client who wanted a larger yacht that could provide a soft, safe, comfortable ride in adverse conditions.
That LinkedIn post says the Maestro 88 cruises silently at 18 knots and can hit 22 knots when required. The shipyard is also advertising a top hop of 22 knots, backed by twin 1,650-horsepower MAN engines. At a cruising speed of 10 knots, Apreamare says, the Maestro 88 has a range of 1,000 nautical miles.
Casali’s LinkedIn post says Hull No. 1 has four staterooms, four heads, a study and a relaxation corner. Interiors, Apreamare says, are “completely customizable, with configurations that include up to four cabins.”
The shipyard also says that Casali’s design includes expanded living spaces such as a sizable beach club, along with interior features like long, sliding glass windows on the main deck to connect the inside of the yacht with the outside environment. The flybridge houses relaxation spaces along with a wet bar, galley and solar panels.
Also on display from Apreamare this autumn: The builder is showcasing the Gozzo 38 Cabin, which is a collaboration between Casali, Tagliavini and Cataldo Aprea. The shipyard says the Gozzo 38 Cabin “represents a significant evolution of the Gozzo 35, boasting larger interior spaces and the improved habitability of a raised deckhouse.” Another distinctive element is the extension of the stern platform, which brings the vessel’s overall length to 37 feet, 7 inches without changing its classification. Power on the Gozzo 38 is traditional 270- or 320-horsepower Volvo Penta D4 shaft line engines and stern drives.

Designed for a repeat client, the first fully custom navetta (meaning “small ship” in Italian) features exteriors and interiors by Umberto Tagliavini of Marine Design and naval architecture by Marco Casali of Too Design. The “all Italian” cruiser was built with the help of “suppliers and artisans from Campania,” ensuring the finest local craftsmanship is displayed throughout.
With a beam of 22 feet and an interior volume of 90 GT, the Maestro 88 offers a surprisingly large interior and room for up to 20 guests. The living quarters can be tailored to the owner, though the standard configuration sees the accommodation on the lower deck and entertaining areas on the main deck and flybridge.
The owner of hull number one opted for four en suite cabins, plus a “studio” with a relaxation corner and electric piano. (You could swap the studio for a fifth guest cabin.) Guests will find plenty of spots for relaxation, too, with a light and airy salon on the main deck, a sizable swim platform at the stern, a plush lounge in the bow, and a scenic bar on the flybridge.
