Project update: YN 20750 Project Orion – Cristiano Gatto interior design revealed

project orion yacht

As NASA’s Orion spacecraft makes its triumphant return from the Moon, Heesen Yachts is delighted to unveil the first visuals of the stellar interior spaces of its 50-metre Project Orion, YN 20750.

Cristiano Gatto and his team have been working closely with the shipyard’s engineers to create an interior that is not only unique to this very special yacht but also reflects and complements its progressive exterior lines, capitalising on the floor-to-ceiling windows and open bulwarks.

“ The interior style of Project Orion is the result of our research moved by matching and partially contrasting needs: comfort in luxury. ” Commented Cristiano Gatto.

We have combined construction details and opulent materials to use as Crown Jewels that refine the space whilst making sure it stays cosy and comfortable.

We have used shapes and materials that exude comfort and serenity whilst showcasing a refined atmosphere where materials, their combination, details and shapes highlight the uniqueness and exclusivity of this b espoke y acht interiors.

We hope that the owners, their family and friends, will be able to feel the passion that moved us while designing this project which is – for me – contemporary in a whole new way. ”

Every aspect of the yacht’s interior was evaluated from every angle to make the best out of Orion’s 499 GT internal volume. Materials and furniture construction are being engineered to reduce weight, ease installation and streamline the maintenance of concealed equipment – a process that benefits immeasurably from the long-standing relationship between this acclaimed Italian designer and the shipyard’s interior engineers.

Artisans and craftspeople at Heesen Yachts Interiors are responsible for all aspects of the internal construction and finish, which involves more than 37different materials, including high gloss woods, woven leather, marbles and custom carpets.

Project Orion belongs to Heesen’s advanced 50-metre FDHF aluminium series. The shipyard was a pioneer of series production in superyachts at the beginning of the century and has continuously invested in research and development to ensure its yachts remain at the forefront of technological innovation.

With its hybrid power systems, the 50-metre FDHF series is the highest expression of Heesen’s philosophy and construction capabilities. Orion’s hybrid installation will deliver both a silent cruising capability and flexible power management for maximum energy efficiency.

Lightweight aluminium, precision-welded to the highest tolerances with meticulous weight control by Heesen’s in-house team, combined with an ultra-efficient Fast Displacement Hull Form, allow a compact machinery package to provide optimum propulsion efficiency throughout the speed range. Two MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) of just 600kW each will deliver a top speed of 16.3 knots, while at 12 knots Orion will consume just 98 litres per hour, excluding hotel load. At ten knots in hybrid mode, fuel consumption falls to just 45 litres per hour. These are truly outstanding figures for a luxurious 50-metre yacht displacing 295 tons.

Project Orion’s construction continues on schedule. The yacht is available for sale, with a delivery timetabled for February 2025.

Thanks to its solid financial position, Heesen is a leader in the construction of luxury yachts on speculation ranging from 50 to 57 meters. Shortening the delivery time while maintaining top-notch Dutch quality is highly appreciated by today’s clients and is an integral part of Heesen’s commercial success.

Construction Update: Heesen’s 50m Project Orion

By Frances Flannagan

The construction of Heesen Yachts' Project Orion, a 50m motor yacht, is continuing on schedule, with her hull and superstructure recently joined together at Heesen’s facility in Oss. She is a remarkable superyacht, innovative in her design as well as in her engineering.

Heesen was the first shipyard to combine hybrid propulsion with the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) on a light aluminium yacht back in 2008, and this innovative DNA has been maintained within Project Orion’s design. She has been developed with Heesen’s innovative hybrid systems, meaning that she can cruise in perfect silence up to 10 knots. She has a nearly vertical bow with spray rails and the extensive use of structural glass and open bulwarks. Her exterior lines, penned by Frank Laupan of Omega Architects, beautifully compliment the contemporary interior by acclaimed Italian designer Cristiano Gatto.

Project Orion can accommodate up to twelve guests in six staterooms, with two twins, two doubles and one VIP at full beam all located on the lower deck, and the owners’ suite located on the main deck forward. The owners can fully enjoy their surroundings thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows in their beautiful suite.

The engineering is not the only innovative element of Project Orion’s design; her engine room has been moved forward, meaning that a generous wellness area has been created. It grants direct access to the large swim platform with a practical transformer ladder, meaning that it is available to use as soon as the anchor is dropped. This area includes a sauna, a gymnasium and a day head with a shower stall: the perfect luxurious haven.

The sundeck layout has also been reorganised: the whirlpool has been moved forward, with large sunpads surrounding it, providing more privacy for guests when she is docked in a marina. Not only granting privacy, this reconfiguration has also made this area feel more spacious and versatile. As well as being a perfect relaxation area, the sundeck is also ideal for entertainment, with an expansive wet bar and a dining table in the shade, measuring at an impressive 77 square metres.

With a shallow draft of just 2.15m, Project Orion is able to cruise in the shallowest of waters, granting the guests access to an unparalleled experience which is usually only available to smaller yachts. This, however, is not the extent of the unmatched experience that she offers; Project Orion's fuel efficiency is to be marvelled at, consuming 98 litres per hour at 12 knots, dropping to 45 litres per hour at 10 knots in a hybrid mode. This exceptional performance is made possible by two MTU 12V 2000 M61 engines, which are more compact than those typically fitted on a yacht of this size, once again highlighting the remarkable efficiency of the FDFH devised by Van Oossanen Naval Architects.

Project Orion perfectly reflects Heesen’s ability to redefine both luxury yachting and the very art of maritime living. Superyachts.com would like to congratulate Heesen on this impressive project and we look forward to following future updates on her construction.

"The interior style of Project Orion is the result of our research moved by matching and partially contrasting needs: comfort in luxury." Cristiano Gatto, Interior Designer, Project Orion

Heesen’s 50m Project Orion on schedule

The hull and superstructure have been joined on the dutch shipyard’s latest hybrid project from its fdhf series….

project orion yacht

Project Orion features a hybrid propulsion system capable of reaching 10 knots, with Heesen using its signature Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) on the lightweight aluminium yacht.

project orion yacht

Twelve guests are accommodated in six staterooms, with the owners' suite located on the main deck. The five guest cabins, two twins, two doubles and one VIP room are on the lower deck.

The design of Project Orion incorporates several layout innovations based on data from market research and feedback from Heesen’s previously delivered yachts. By moving the engine room forward, the shipbuilder has created a wellness area of about 26 sqm, which grants direct access to the large, fixed swim platform.

The changes to the sundeck layout, such as moving the whirlpool forward and surrounding it with sun pads, provide more privacy for guests when the yacht is docked stern-to in a marina.

project orion yacht

Project Orion also has a draft of just 2.15m that allows it to cruise in the Bahamas and the small creeks in the Mediterranean.

Heesen adds that the FHDF series is not only quiet but fuel efficient too. At 12 knots, Orion will consume 98 litres per hour, excluding hotel load, while at 10 knots in hybrid mode, consumption falls to a mere 45 litres per hour, delivered by two MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines of just 600kW each.

The yacht is scheduled for delivery in 2025.

A Peek Inside Heesen’s Project Orion

  • By Yachting Staff
  • December 30, 2022

Heesen Yachts’ Project Orion

Heesen Yachts in the Netherlands has released the first images of the 164-foot Project Orion.

Cristiano Gatto is handling interior décor that, according to Heesen, reflects and complement the yacht’s “progressive exterior lines,” sole-to-ceiling windows and open bulwarks.

“The interior style of Project Orion is the result of our research moved by matching and partially contrasting needs: comfort in luxury,” Gatto stated in a press release, adding that he sees the yacht’s interiors as “contemporary in a whole new way.”

Heesen says all materials and furniture are being engineered to reduce weight, ease installation and streamline maintenance of concealed equipment. More than 37 materials are aboard the yacht, ranging from high-gloss woods to woven leather, marble and custom carpets.

Project Orion is part of Heesen’s 50-meter FDHF aluminum series, which uses hybrid power. According to the shipyard, the yacht’s twin 800-horsepower MTU 12V 200 M61 engines will produce a top speed of 16.3 knots; at 10 knots in hybrid mode, fuel consumption is just shy of 12 gallons per hour.

When will Heesen launch Project Orion? The yard says construction is on schedule, with delivery in February 2025. The yacht is being built on spec and is available for sale.

X-Plorer Yachts Project Orion catamaran

X-Plorer Yachts reveals 40m catamaran concept Project Orion

Australian shipyard X-Plorer Yachts has revealed a 39.9-metre catamaran concept, known as Project Orion.

Commissioned by a "northern hemisphere investor", the custom project is over two years in the making and is currently in the process of selecting an Australian-based builder.

Built in aluminium, the catamaran's "rugged and understated" exterior is courtesy of Misha Merzliakov, who took inspiration from his 52-metre concept Eva . Naval architecture will be completed by Periscope Naval Architects, while the project is being personally overseen by X-Plorer Yachts founder and former yacht captain Juan Koegelenberg.

Accommodation is for up to 12 guests and nine crew in a layout that caters to a "multigenerational family" as well as frequent charter usage, according to X-Plorer Yachts. Her interiors are also designed by Misha Merzliakov, furnished with monochromatic furniture, warm integrated lighting and marble accents for a contemporary but casual feel. Renderings reveal a main saloon with a pentagonal bar as its centrepiece, flanked by U-shaped sofa seating and a 12-person dining table.

On-deck highlights include an open-air "cigar lounge" forward of the main deck, a fully compliant helideck, storage for a BRIG Eagle 8 and BRIG Eagle 6 and an eight-metre tender lift platform, located aft on the centreline between the hulls.

While full specifications are yet to be disclosed, the yacht has been designed to "explore the Pacific for extended periods" per the investor's request.

"We're Done" - CDPR Is Finally Moving On From Cyberpunk 2077

  • CD Projekt Red is moving on from Cyberpunk 2077, focusing more on the sequel Project Orion.
  • Minor updates may still be added if easy to integrate, despite major updates being done.
  • Project Orion is being developed with a focus on team trust and freedom to create, building on Phantom Liberty's success.

CD Projekt Red finally seems to be moving on from Cyberpunk 2077 according to a new interview. In the years following the sci-fi RPG's disastrous 2020 launch, its developers have worked to overhaul the title with many major patches that not only fixed bugs and glitches, but added completely new features such as a working Metro system, romantic hangouts across multiple apartments, car combat and more.

With these improvements, and 2023's acclaimed Phantom Liberty expansion, Cyberpunk 2077 is a far more beloved game than it was at launch. In a new interview with Game File , Game director Gabe Amatangelo - who helmed the work on the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty - has revealed that the studio is turning its attention more fully towards Cyberpunk 2077 's sequel - currently codenamed Project Orion - simply saying " Yes. We're done " when asked about further Cyberpunk 2077 updates.

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Is Hoping To Avoid The First Games Worst Mistake

Cd projekt red may still add minor updates to cyberpunk 2077, but only if they're easy to integrate.

The 2.0 update was originally believed to be the last major update for Cyberpunk 2077 when it released alongside Phantom Liberty in September 2023. This wasn't the case, however, as CD Projekt Red also released the 2.1 update with the Metro system mere months later, and the 2.11 patch with custom paint jobs in January 2024. While the team is now finally writing off major updates to Cyberpunk 2077 , Amatangelo isn't ruling out smaller updates entirely, saying, " It's possible that there's some other little thing that comes in here or there, just because, as you're kind of messing around with stuff, sometimes you discover something that is not a high risk. Or it's easy to integrate. "

Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel Leaks Already Show One Big Improvement

Cd projekt red is learning from cyberpunk 2077's development, amatangelo's vision for project orion builds on phantom liberty.

Amantagelo also discussed the development of Project Orion , talking about how the studio has been finding better ways to make a game, focusing on the composition of the team and " trusting each other and believing in each other. ” While he didn't discuss how Cyberpunk 2077 's team operated before he was in charge, he did say “ The big change was just to give everyone more freedom, letting them just create and not have to worry about the game directors checking the box on every little thing. ” with managers doing the occasional spot checks to check the game's overall alignment.

This mentality clearly seems to have worked so far, as Phantom Liberty was extremely well received along with the recent updates to the game. One of Amantagelo's key goals seemed to be getting the pieces of the open-world game to connect to each other more, which most of the updates have succeeded in doing, and CD Projekt Red seems to be carrying this vision over to Project Orion , which should hopefully make for a far greater launch experience when Cyberpunk 2077 's sequel does eventually release.
