SOMNIO Yacht – World’s Largest Yacht Will Launch in 2024

SOMNIO yacht is the name of an exclusive new yacht project that will measure 222 meters (728 ft) and will become the new largest yacht in the world, both by weight and length.

This $600 million project has been described as a residential cruise ship designed to take its exclusive passengers around the world to the most sought-after destinations in remote places.

The interior of the SOMNIO yacht will be made up of 39 individual apartments, which are to be sold separately, giving this mega yacht more than one owner.

The yacht is currently being built by VARD in Norway and is expected to set sail sometime in 2024.

Somnio largest Super yacht

SOMNIO yacht interior

While the exterior of the SOMNIO yacht is being constructed by a shipyard specialized in cruise ships, the interior is unmistakably that of a superyacht.

The London-based design house Winch will collaborate with Tillberg of Sweden, both of which have extensive experience in the world of yacht design.

This will elevate the interior of SOMNIO and set it apart from other residential vessels like, for example, THE WORLD, which appeals to a far more budget-conscious target audience.

interior somnio living space

By combining the upscale amenities and design of a super yacht with the capabilities and facilities of a luxury cruise liner, SOMNIO is meant to cater to those who want to explore remote corners of the world from the comfort of their own home on the water.

The SOMNIO yacht will have 39 apartments available for purchase which can be customized with additional rooms or private facilities.

While a large portion of the yacht will be shared by all residents, SOMNIO also prioritizes the privacy that a private yacht might provide.

Buyers are encouraged to add a kitchen to their apartments to make themselves self-sufficient and able to cook for themselves on longer journeys.

However, an onboard restaurant with room service is available to cater to the needs of residents should they want a more luxurious experience.

interior somnio external

Apartments onboard the SOMNIO yacht range from just one-bedroom suites to four-bedroom residences, which can be customized to include a library, massage room, private gym or office space.

Sizes will start at 182m2, which includes 148m2 interior space and a 34m2 terrace. The largest apartment available is the 963m2 penthouse which spans across the entire top deck.

With 602m2 interior space and a spacious 361m2 deck, this property is guaranteed to attract high-profile buyers.

The interior design is entirely customizable, and buyers are invited to submit their ideas and requirements to the team at Winch.

The idea is for each resident to customize their living space to their own lifestyle, which might include extended stays onboard or several shorter trips.

Some might plan to work onboard while others will spend time with their families, which might require more space.

In addition to a large swimming pool, multiple jacuzzis, and several in-house restaurants, SOMNIO yacht offers a 10,000-bottle wine cellar, a large beach club with water sports equipment, and a panorama lounge to its residents.

Specifications

SOMNIO will become the new largest yacht in the world, measuring 222 meters (728 ft) and taking the title from AZZAM.

At a total weight of 33,500 tons, this massive yacht is often compared to a small cruise ship that caters to the richest and wealthiest.

However, instead of joining the never-ending race of building new super yachts, SOMNIO is set to create an entirely new niche, combining yachts and cruise ships into the so-called yacht liner.

According to Jim Dixon, the creative director of yachts at Winch Design, a large part of the building process of the SOMNIO yacht will be similar to that of a cruise ship.

VARD, where the SOMNIO yacht is being constructed, has extensive experience in this field which is why the shipyard was chosen for this project.

Erik Bredhe is just one prominent name behind this high-profile project. The former Captain of the residential cruise ship THE WORLD is part of a steering committee that will be in charge of selecting residents for SOMNIO and inviting them to purchase apartments.

With this, he hopes to create a “community of like-minded individuals” on board the mega yacht.

Even though the launch of SOMNIO still lies at least two years in the future, there is already considerable interest in this new yacht, according to Jim Dixon.

Since the onboard apartments are highly customizable, there is even the possibility of one owner purchasing more than one residence aboard the yacht.

Somnio worlds argest yacht

This unique new yacht project will feature six decks, a large swimming pool aft of the vessel as well as a full beach club.

The 39 apartments will be spread across the decks and only the largest of which will occupy the entire top deck.

This penthouse suite will be the most exclusive onboard the SOMNIO yacht and is expected to sell for far more than the estimated $20 million for smaller apartments.

Digital renders of the mega yacht portray it with a metallic blue exterior with white elements and a large aluminum superstructure. The decks will be made of light teak with white or cream deck furniture.

The front of SOMNIO will have space for a spacious helipad which allows even large aircraft to land comfortably.

Somnio Super yacht

The SOMNIO yacht will follow an itinerary all around the world, prioritizing less-visited locations to be able to provide unique experiences to its residents.

The highly-experienced crew is prepared to cater to every need of its guests and adjust the route according to the wishes of the residents. ‘

Day trips and land excursions are, of course, available on request, as well as special events and celebrations.

SOMNIO is a luxury project , and as to be expected, the price tag of this mega yacht is sizable. The project is estimated to cost between $500 and $600 million, although an exact figure is not publicly available.

The 39 luxury apartments will be available for $20 million each, although sales are expected to be by invite only.

Each apartment will be customizable and can be adapted to the needs and lifestyle of each resident.

Will billion-dollar Triple Deuce really become world's biggest yacht?

A 222 metre superyacht called Triple Deuce is going to overtake Azzam as the world’s largest yacht, according to reports in the mainstream and specialist superyacht press. Triple Deuce is set to be 40 metres longer than Azzam , priced at $1 billion and built at a “northern European yard”, we’re told, with delivery set for 2018. The details are consistent across all stories, and can be traced to a single press release published in October 2014 on Florida broker 4Yacht’s website.

Craig Timm of 4Yacht claims to have sold Project Triple Deuce to a client, “a visionary, ultra high-net worth individual”. The owner, Timm says, was concerned about building a yacht only slightly bigger than Azzam and then being quickly outpaced by another owner. “By building the yacht to 222 meters, he wants to make it difficult, if not impossible, to be ‘eclipsed’ himself”, Timm says, making a play on the name of the world’s second largest yacht, the 162.5 metre Blohm&Voss Eclipse .

But the team at Boat International has questions about the validity of these claims, for reasons we are about to explain.

Timm says in the original press release that the builder for Triple Deuce had yet to be chosen – a situation that hasn’t changed. When reached for comment, the broker said that despite the lack of a yard, his aggressive delivery schedule can still be maintained: “However, the speculative delivery date is being pushed out to fall of 2018 at this time,” he says.

With build slots at the few yards that could handle a project of this magnitude sold well ahead, it seems inconceivable that one will have the capacity to take on a 222 metre project and deliver it in just three years. In an effort to discover more, we submitted a list of questions to Timm, including the questions below, none of which he chose to answer, pointing instead to the many stories currently online.

  • When was the order signed?
  • Who are the designers? Who drew the outline?
  • Did the owner give you permission to release the price of the yacht?
  • Is steel being cut now? If yes, where?
  • How do you expect to deliver this yacht in just three years?
  • Why did the owner choose 4yacht?

Of course, many of the biggest yachts are kept relatively secret. The recently delivered 140m Fincantieri Ocean Victory was cloaked in secrecy. Yet her order was reported in plain sight in 2009 and her designers were known at that time.

What wasn’t reported in the order of Ocean Victory , however, was the price, which makes 4Yacht’s claim that Triple Deuce will cost “over $1 billion” to build an unusual one. Brokers contacted by BI suggested this figure was outlandish, claiming that a number around $850 million was more likely, while adding that most owners would think twice before allowing the cost to be broadcast.

“Much of what we do in this industry is discreet,” says legal expert John Leonida, who heads up Clyde & Co’s superyacht practice. “Yes there is gossip and there are moments when it is practically impossible to disguise the truth. However, when a decision to disclose arrives, all the stakeholders in the information would ordinarily be consulted and should agree on the story to be told. But some matters must remain secret.

“Why would an owner commit to allowing anyone to announce that he is spending $1 billion? People will find out. At some point the owner will be identified, at some point the yard would be identified. Unless you are a public company, why disclose to the whole world your turnover?”

Of further concern for an owner would be announcing this number while looking for insurers and paying taxes, according to Leonida. “Why would the yard and everyone associated with the project readily disclose a number that would attract the interest of tax authorities?” Leonida asks. “The US government would be interested if $1 billion of American currency was being used."

Beyond Timm’s statements and the rehashed versions of the press release online, there is little “noise” about Project Triple Deuce in the superyacht industry, while senior brokers in the US told Boat International that it won’t see the light of day. For the sake of the yachting industry, we’d welcome this news being true, but until some verifiable facts are released, we won’t rush like others to announce the end of Azzam ’s reign as the biggest superyacht in the world.

The Largest Superyachts Set to Launch in 2024

By Frances Flannagan

Details about the largest superyachts in build are often kept tightly under wraps, guarded as industry secrets and generally only seen for the first time when they are launched. Using a combination of research into vessels currently under construction and acknowledging recent speculations, we take a look at the largest superyachts set to launch in 2024 as the industry eagerly awaits more information on these stand-out vessels.

SOMNIO - 222m

SOMNIO is set to be the world’s largest yacht with a LOA of 222m. Shipbuilding giant VARD is undertaking this mammoth build, working closely with  Winch Design and Tillberg Design of Sweden who are responsible for her design. She will be the world's first 'yacht-liner', offering a number of exclusive, and highly customisable, residences onboard for purchase.

SOMNIO translates to ‘Dream’ in Latin, which is no surprise as this 222m vessel is certainly something of a dream-like quality. Referred to as ‘the most exclusive address in the world’, she is set to offer her owners and guests an intimate community at sea, exuding effortless style and comfort onboard. She will be equipped with all of the services that one would find in a six-star resort; for example, her aft deck will be the main hub, featuring a lavish beach club, two spas and sumptuous outdoor lounges.

SOMNIO embodies the new era of yacht life, and her launch is set to be a ground-breaking moment for the superyacht industry.

Project Deep Blue - 130m+

Following her technical launch which took place in July 2023, Lürssen’s Project Deep Blue is set to officially launch this year. She is estimated to have a LOA of over 130m, with all aspects of her build and design being kept tightly under wraps.

It is speculated that she has an interior volume of around 9,000 GT and she is set to be the 14th largest yacht built by the German yard, taking her place between 135m CRESCENT and 126.2m OCTOPUS.  She will take the rank of 26 in the Superyachts.com Top 100 largest yachts in the world following her official launch.

Project 821 - 118.8m

In April 2022, Feadship revealed the hull of 118.8m Project 821: the largest yacht ever built by the Dutch yard. Her construction is highly secretive, with little known about the project, although the initial renderings show her to have a voluminous exterior and a sleek, curvaceous profile.

Project 821 will prove a highly exciting event for Feadship as she will become the shipyard’s flagship vessel, surpassing 110m ANNA , launched in 2018, and 118m Project 1010 . She will rank 37 in the Top 100.

Freire Explorer (NB-729) - 105m

Following the successful launch of 112m RENAISSANCE  last year, Freire Shipyard is currently building NB-729: a 105m motor yacht and the third Top 100 superyacht built by the Spanish shipyard.

Her build is highly secretive, with no information revealed as of yet, although we can expect her to follow in the footsteps of her 112m sistership as a vessel exuding unparalleled luxury and comfort. RENAISSANCE can accommodate 36 guests with an entire deck dedicated to fitness, wellness and pampering, these features setting the precedent for another exceptional build by the Spanish yard. NB-729 will rank 68  in the Superyachts.com Top 100 list.

Project  JASSJ - 103m

Technically launched in December 2023, Lürssen’s 103m Project JASSJ is due to be officially launched this year. She features a steel hull, aluminium superstructure, powerful profile and several spacious decks. Her exteriors and interiors are penned by RWD and is able to accommodate 20 guests across ten cabins, speculated to harbour numerous expansive social spaces.

Moran Yacht & Ship are the project managers of this build, which is expected to boast a traditional Lürssen bow shape, a tender garage, a beach club and an aft swimming pool. Project JASSJ will take the 73rd spot in the Top 100 world's largest yachts this year.

- - -

Other large superyachts set to launch in 2024 are Turquoise Yachts’ 87m Project VENTO , Damen Yachting’s 80m Amels 80 and Lürssen’s 78m ACE 21 . 2024 is already geared up to be an exceptional year for the superyacht industry, and we at Superyachts.com cannot wait to see what exciting events will unfold throughout the year.

Norwegian shipbuilding and design group VARD announced it has secured a contract to build the world's largest superyacht.

At 33,500 GRT, with a length of 222 meters and a beam of 27 meters, the $600 million superyacht Somnio was unveiled Monday as the first ever residential "yacht liner", featuring 39 luxurious apartments for a select, secret group of ultra-wealthy travelers.

Captain Erik Bredhe, co-founder of Somnio, is overseeing the project. He said, "Somnio, meaning 'to dream' in Latin, will be the largest yacht in the world by length and volume, and offer apartment owners the finest quality available at sea."

"Somnio will be the only residential superyacht in the world and has been designed to exacting standards that are commensurate with a life of opportunity," Bredhe said. "Owners will share a truly unique lifestyle at sea, with a hand-picked crew and a never-ending global itinerary of carefully selected destinations and experiences befitting a yacht of this nature."

Featuring ultraluxe amenities and the "highest standards" of security and medical care, the yacht will sail on a slow-paced and everchanging global itinerary, Somnio said, listing possible destinations such as the Mediterranean, New York, the South Pacific and Antarctica. Apartment ownership is by invitation only.

Each onboard apartment will include its own indoor and outdoor dining spaces, kitchen, gym and library. There will also be a shared 10,000-bottle wine cellar, as well as restaurants, bars and a beach club with watersports.

Hull construction and the first outfitting phase will be performed at Vard Tulcea in Romania before the vessel is transferred to Vard Søviknes in Norway for final outfitting and delivery in Spring 2024.

Attilio Dapelo, general manager for VARD's cruise business unit, said, "The vessel will be the largest vessel so far in VARD’s history and will engage a high number of designers and shipbuilders in VARD's network of specialized international facilities."

Also involved in the project is VARD's parent company, the Italian shipbuilding conglomerate Fincantieri, as well as architectural and design studios Tillberg Design of Sweden and Winch Design from the U.K. Other key players include Vard Design and Vard Electro. A range of Norwegian suppliers and contractors will also be involved in the project, VARD said.

Introducing Triple Deuce, World’s First and Largest Billion Dollar Yacht at 222 Meters (728.4’) USA - English USA - English

News provided by

Oct 01, 2014, 09:15 ET

Fort Lauderdale, Florida (PRWEB) October 01, 2014 -- Move over Azzam, at 180m (590’), not long enough. Tough luck, Eclipse, at 163.5m (536’),yesterdays news. Goodbye Dubai, at 162m (531’) had your day in the sun.

Project “Triple Deuce” is coming, and at 222 meters (728.4’), it’s going to send these, and other yachts in this category, into obscurity as this new build takes its place as the world’s largest yacht.

Most Expensive, Largest, Private Yacht Ever Built “Project Triple Deuce is about to set the world on fire as not only the largest private yacht ever built, coming in at a whopping 222 meters (728.4’), but also the most expensive, at a cost of over $1 billion USD,” said Craig Timm, yacht broker at 4Yacht, Inc. , responsible for selling Project Triple Deuce to his client.

This Yacht Dwarfs Cruise Ships To put this massive yacht in perspective for the layman, the sheer size of Triple Deuce even dwarfs some cruise ships. As an example, Costa Cruises has a ship named Costa Classic that is 722’ long and carries 1,308 passengers and 590 crewmembers. But Triple Deuce is a private yacht, and is designed to carry only 36 guests in opulent luxury with a crew complement of 90-100.

In addition to being the longest private yacht in the world at 222 meters (728.4’), the yacht will have a beam of 24.9 meters (81.69’), and a draft of 4.8 meters (15.78’).

This yacht will be no slouch in the speed department either, as its top speed will be in excess of 30 knots (35 MPH). To get to that speed, she will be powered by triple gas turbine engines making over 100,000 horsepower. The yacht also has no rudders, as electric podded propulsion units (think The Queen Mary 2) will handle maneuvering.

Owner And Guests Live Like Royalty The owner’s suite, at 275 square meters (2960 square feet) over two stories, will encompass nearly one full deck of space in the seven-deck yacht, and offer unparalleled views. It will feature two staterooms, and will include private access to a helipad and an elevator from an exclusive drive in dock, as well as all the luxury amenities you would come to expect. The owner’s suite also offers a private gym, office and study, private dining area, butler’s stateroom and more.

Onboard guests will be similarly pampered in four VIP suites of 90 square meters (968 square feet) apiece, and 12 guest suites, each at over 60 square meters (645 square feet). All guests will have access to the yacht’s two pools, one indoor, one outdoor, multiple Jacuzzis, spa facilities, full time masseuse, hair stylist and barber, as well as all the water toys the yacht can carry.

Who Would Buy A Yacht Of This Size? “It takes a person of vision, someone with a dream to own the worlds largest yacht and to bring it to reality,” claims Timm. “We work almost exclusively with UHNWI (ultra high net worth individuals) clients and specialize in mega yachts and super yachts . For several years, we have advertised the sale of a 200 meter yacht on our luxury website, http://www.4yacht.com , and have worked with several UHNWI as well as several Middle Eastern clients toward the goal of building a yacht of this size. We had many discussions with our buyer that a yacht of 200 meters was of sufficient length, however with the launching of Azzam recently at 180 Meters, that all changed.

This Yacht Not To Be “Eclipsed” “What our client was concerned about is that if we built the yacht to 200 meters, then someone would come along like Roman Abramovich when he built Eclipse at 163.5 meters, to barely ‘eclipse’ Sheikh Maktoum’s yacht, the 162-meter Dubai, by only 1.5 meters.” said Timm. “By building the yacht to 222 meters, he wants to make it difficult, if not impossible, to be ‘eclipsed’ himself.”

According to Timm, construction of Project Triple Deuce will begin at a European shipyard, which has still yet to be decided, in the next 6-12 months, with a target delivery date of spring 2018. He goes on to say that the yacht will be built under the 100 A1 Passenger Ship Classification and be fully PYC (Passenger Yacht Code) Compliant.

What’s All This Luxury Going To Cost The Owner Of This Yacht? Current large super yachts run about €3.5 million to €4 million per meter to build at the best European shipyards.

Doing the quick math, Project Deuce will cost €777 million to €888 million, or at the current USD exchange rate, $1.1 billion to $1.2 billion.

“Don’t forget to add in annual operating costs,” Timm said. “On a yacht of this size, it will run the owner an additional $20-$35 million USD per year”.

The Race To Build The Biggest And The Best Much like the race to build the tallest buildings in the world, such as the Shanghai Tower at 632 meters (2073’), or the Burj Khalifa at 828 meters (2717’), super yachts will continue to expand their size depending on who needs to have the biggest and best yacht.

How Long Will Project Triple Deuce Hold Its Position As The World’s Largest Yacht? “That’s hard to determine, as there is a limit, not in size, but functionality and logistics,” Timm said. “We haven’t gotten there yet, but if the uber wealthy of the world have their way, Project Triple Deuce will be toppled in the future. How soon? That will be anybody’s guess.”

The race to build the biggest and the best: World’s first and largest superyacht to have 222 meters

World’s First and Largest Billion Dollar Yacht at v(728.4′)

Much like the race to build the tallest buildings in the world, such as the Shanghai Tower at 632 meters (2073′), or the Burj Khalifa at 828 meters (2717′), super yachts will continue to expand their size depending on who needs to have the biggest and best yacht .   At 222 meters (728.4′) project “Triple Deuce” will be world’s first and largest billion dollar yacht.

According to 4yacht.com, the construction of Project Triple Deuce will begin at a European shipyard in the next 6-12 months, with a target delivery date of spring 2018.

“Project Triple Deuce” superyacht is about to set the world on fire as not only the largest private yacht ever built, coming in at a whopping 222 meters (728.4′), but also the most expensive, at a cost of over $1 billion USD,” said Craig Timm, yacht broker at 4Yacht, responsible for selling Project Triple Deuce to his client.

In addition to being the longest private yacht in the world at 222 meters (728.4′), the yacht will have a beam of 24.9 meters (81.69′), and a draft of 4.8 meters (15.78′).

Triple Deuce ‘s top speed will be in excess of 30 knots (35 MPH). To get to that speed, she will be powered by triple gas turbine engines making over 100,000 horsepower. The yacht also has no rudders, as electric podded propulsion units will handle maneuvering.

The owner’s suite , at 275 square meters (2960 square feet) over two stories, will encompass nearly one full deck of space in the seven-deck yacht, and offer unparalleled views.

According to 4Yacht, the current large superyachts run about €3.5 million to €4 million per meter to build at the best European shipyards.

The World's Most Exclusive Address Is Actually on a Yacht — and Its 39 Apartments Just Hit the Market

Take a peek inside the world's first residential superyacht.

222 meter yacht

Few trips are as luxurious as one aboard a superyacht . Impeccable service, stunning surroundings, exceptional amenities, and divine cuisine all combine to create a unique experience that you may never want to leave. Pretty soon, you won't have to buy a superyacht of your own to live on one. In 2024, the superyacht Somnio will launch with 39 luxurious apartments — a true floating paradise.

At 222 meters (or nearly 730 feet), and with 33,500 GRT (gross register tonnage), Somnio will be the largest yacht in the world by both length and volume. (The current record is Azzam, which measures 180 meters.) Somnio will cost a staggering €500 million and is being built by VARD in Norway.

Instead of the typical cabins aboard a yacht, every unit will be an ultra-luxury apartment with expansive windows. The smallest apartments are close to 2,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor space, while the largest spans over 10,300 square feet, including a nearly 4,000-square-foot private terrace. The interiors are completely bespoke, down to the layout. Somnio is working with three top design firms that specialize in yachting: Tillberg Design of Sweden, Winch Design, and Luttenberger Design.

Owners can choose the number of bedrooms and optional rooms, including a private kitchen, gym, or library. Every apartment will have a private outdoor space, a rarity among even the largest superyacht charters. (Most outdoor space is open to all guests aboard a yacht.) Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the apartments with light and allow for stunning views. Owners will be able to admire the iconic cliffs of the Amalfi Coast , the New York City skyline, or even see polar bears and penguins in Antarctica — all from the privacy of their apartments.

Naturally, the amenities aboard are extensive. There's a large aft deck for days at sea, which includes a beach club with a lap pool and two large spas. There are plenty of loungers and outdoor seating so you can soak up the sun and the views. For water sports, head to the marina at the stern of the yacht, where there will be experts in fishing, diving, snorkeling , and more. There's also a helicopter landing pad for residents looking to arrive in style.

Inside, there are multiple restaurants and bars. World-class chefs will board at select destinations to cook their famous cuisine and immerse owners in local culture. There's a 10,000-bottle wine cellar with incredible vintages, a top-deck lounge and library, a movie theater, and the Connoisseur Club for fine spirits and cigars. Health and wellness are a focus aboard, too; Somnia will have medical care aboard, and there's a great fitness area and a spa, as well.

Co-founder and captain Erik Bredhe, formerly captain of The World , a cruise ship-sized vessel with 165 residences, is certainly the man to lead such an ambitious undertaking. "Beauty may be found as much on the inside of Somnio as it is on the outside," he said. "As the only residential superyacht in the world, we are delighted to work with designers that complement our exacting standards. Our owners will experience only the best, as is befitting of a yacht of this nature."

Ready to learn more? You'll need a referral or a private invitation, as the ownership list is closely curated and will be tightly guarded. Apartments start at €9.5 million. You can learn more about Somnio on its website .

Yacht News YF News Editor

I have read just now about a new superyacht that is to be in the works that if built is to take the title from the 590-foot "Azzam", the current largest yacht in the world. In another six months or so they are expected to decide which European yard will build this yacht. Of course that could only be one of 2 or 3 yards. In addition to being the longest private yacht in the world at 222 meters (728.4'), the yacht will have a beam of 24.9 meters (81.69'), and a draft of 4.8 meters (15.78'). I've never heard of that broker before. It's interesting to here but I still doubt that it will happen. I'm a fan of large yachts but 700' is pretty absurd.
It does sound rather suspicious but hey we all thought the 525-foot Dubai was pretty absurd at one point! Lurssen, Fincantieri and or Meyer Werft (cruiseship yard) would be probable candidates to build but until now I have not known anything of such a project. Creating hype perhaps.

At least there were rumors about someone looking for a shipyard to implement a 200m project before.. We should be cautious and wait and see as for the future.

Meyer Werft in Papenburg ,I have heard, is trying to enter the Yacht building business.A vast experience in Cruiseship building can make them the first candidate to build such a big veseel- if it gets ever built..

I very, very, very much doubt any UHNWI would go through 4 yachts . com with any seriously large project. It´s not the way this market works. They are not even central selling agents for any of the large yachts they list.

If you don't have one specific UHNWI that you are in talks with the ship isn't getting built. No one is going to drop close to a billion dollars on spec.

Anybody knows if this project will go thorugh or had already started? They are writting as it was already half build... http://edition.cnn.com/2015/02/11/s...ryacht-triple-deuce-billion-dollar/index.html
I do not believe it. The keel has not been laid, they would have a billion photos of that process if it had. 4yacht is a low rent website, the kind of thing a very local yacht broker in any non-specific port in the US might have. There is no way that someone with so few resources is making such a big project happen. He also has mental problems if he thinks a billion dollar machine is going the be kept running for $30 million a year. This looks like it's nothing but more hypotheticals to hype himself and drive business to his website.
Thought so, but thank you for confirmation.
I did a bit more looking, and I'm going to downgrade them in my estimation and suggest that they are not even a local broker. Everything I find about them can be traced back to their press releases. They talk (again in their press releases) about being based in Fort Lauderdale and having offices elsewhere, but the mailing address that they use is a fort lauderdale strip mall, possibly they using the UPS store, but I suspect that they are being run out of the outdoor experience outfit, which arranges things like kayaking trips and sport boat rentals. I couldn't find any record of anyone dealing with them other than what 4yacht dot com put up themselves. I could find no record of any 4 yacht agents anywhere else in the world. In 2006 they put a Mulder designed 405' yacht up on ebay, and claimed to have sold it. Mulder never said anything about any collaboration. They released a press release saying that it had sold but nothing ever turned up from any other source and the yacht was never built. I'll be going to the Miami Boat Show on Sunday and figured I'd stop by their booth to do some more sleuthing, no booth in the directory. I tried to find a record of them at FLIBS but the only record I could find was their site. They post no photographs that are not available off the internet. They list sold yachts on their page but there is no record of them being involved in any of the sales. I did find a record of them advertising that buying a yacht with them would be instantly thousands of dollars less which makes me think that their plan is to poach sales from other brokers and just refund a portion of their brokers fees to the buyer.

I guess it can be officially called vaporware. - Not impossible, but certainly not something that is going to happen with the letterbox companies involved. Maybe I should monetize my yacht ideas too. Or maybe not, can't have AMG and the other real designers die of laughter.
Came across this article from "yacht harbor" today. The 222-meter publicity stunt. I also came across the 4yacht "listing" for a Donald Starkey design that he couldn't even get the length right on . Listing it both at 600 feet and as 200 meters. The sales pitch after the publicity stunt was enough to make my blood boil. Are You Going To Pay Too Much For Your Next Yacht? Please take a look at the yacht above. What you are looking at is a picture of a Luxury Yacht I can sell you so cheaply you will find it hard to believe! Why is this yacht so inexpensive? Actually, there are three reasons and each of them is equally important: First of all, I am not a "yacht broker" in the usual sense of the word. No. What I do is specialize in absolutely nothing but luxury yachts and I have developed a remarkable way to get these yachts at a price so low it will take your breath away! And secondly, I am not overwhelmingly greedy. That's important. You see, many people in the yachting business are only in it for the money, but that's not true with me. And, as a matter of fact, it's not true of anybody that is really in love with yachts and the yachting lifestyle. And the third reason is that I'm "hoping" that when I do a great job for you, as I have for others, you will write me a great testimonial to let others know how you feel about me like JB did below. “We could not imagine having ever chosen another broker than 4Yacht, if we had, it would have most certainly been a great mistake.” JB. Owning a luxury yacht is unique and it’s more than just owning a boat, it’s a lifestyle. When you own a yacht, everybody knows you are special. You are admired by women and envied by men. Quite frankly, there is nothing else in the entire world that will give you the instant status as being at the “helm” of your very own luxury yacht. Let's face it. As a current, or previous owner of a yacht, you already know the value of owning a fine luxury yacht, so my question to you is: Are going to pay too much for your next yacht? With the unbelievably low prices I can offer you on your next luxury Yacht, I guarantee that choosing me to help you with your next yacht purchase with be the best decision you have ever made. Please call me as soon as you read this letter. Right now, I work with my clients one on one, and I only have two new client positions I can allocate my time to. Are You Going To Pay Too Much For Your Next Yacht? Not if I can help it!! Call me NOW! My number is [I've removed this parasites number] or if you prefer email us. Sincerely, Craig Timm P.S. There is another "mystery reason"why I can sell these luxury yachts so cheaply, but I would prefer not to reveal it until we talk on the phone. Thank you. Craig Click to expand...
Since writing my comment a few posts above in October 2014 I have heard nothing until earlier this week when a very well placed little bird told me that a number of individuals some of whom I know in passing are working on a proposal for a 200m plus project for an existing Owner. It might not be 222m but if it goes ahead it will be a monster. One should also be aware that commercial ships with cruise ship interiors are much quicker and cheaper to build that a yacht in the traditional sense of the word. They do not suit everyone just as the full luxury versions to do suit all comers.
I'm going to engage in some wild speculation and assume that Craig Timms/4yacht is somehow not involved in this monster of a project. Am I too far off base here? To my knowledge major cruise ship staterooms are all prefab fiberglass units built offsite (and mostly to identical specs) and then slid into place and bolted in complete with furniture, fixtures, and finishes. Much faster than fitting out a yacht where you are building the thing onboard and each room is its own thing.
That is not one of the names I was told of as being involved in the preps for it.

VARD to build largest yacht in the world – Somnio

We are pleased to announce the contract for the construction of Somnio, the world’s first residential “yacht liner”, finished to the highest possible standards.

28. June 2021

Picture of Somnio 1399 19 09 12 Fwd

Somnio will be one of a kind and recognizable as the new standard bearer of superyacht design. The yacht liner will have a gross tonnage of 33,500 GRT, a length of 222 meters, and a beam of 27 meters.

Somnio has just 39 luxurious apartments onboard and will sail the world according to owners’ wishes.

The yacht liner, which will comply with the highest safety, environmental and operational standards and rules, is the result of a close cooperation among Somnio, Fincantieri and VARD.

Somnio has selected two of the world’s foremost architectural and design studios for the project, Tillberg Design of Sweden and Winch Design from the United Kingdom.

Delivery is due in Norway in Spring 2024.

Captain Erik Bredhe, co-founder of Somnio, said: “We are delighted to have chosen the highly-experienced team at VARD for this unique project. Somnio, meaning “to dream” in Latin, will be the largest yacht in the world by length and volume, and offer apartment owners the finest quality available at sea. We are really looking forward to seeing this beautiful yacht liner sail in 2024.”

General Manager for Business Unit Cruise in VARD, Attilio Dapelo says:

“We are proud of having been selected to build this amazing yacht liner for Somnio. The vessel will be the largest vessel so far in VARD’s history and will engage a high number of designers and shipbuilders in VARD’s network of specialized international facilities.”

Newbuilding General Manager for Business Unit Cruise in Fincantieri, Daniele Fanara says:

“Once again Fincantieri group, offering to owners the expertise achieved with the development of the widest and most diversified portfolio of maritime products worldwide, is the first to develop groundbreaking designs for new market segments and niches. Our teams have strictly cooperated with Somnio and with their architects. The result is really outstanding and will set the standard for a new niche of superyacht ownership for those who desire companionship to share the experiences offered by Somnio.”

The yacht liner is to be delivered from Vard Søviknes in Norway. The hull, and the first phase of outfitting, will be performed at Vard Tulcea in Romania. Other key players in the project are VARD’s parent company Fincantieri, Vard Design, and Vard Electro. A broad range of suppliers and contractors in the Norwegian Maritime Cluster will also be involved in the project.

During my 37 years in VARD, I have had many dreams. However, the satisfaction of bringing home the contract of Somnio, clearly exceeds all of what I was hoping for. – Senior Vice President Sales and Marketing in VARD, Rune Rødset
