YOT 36 full tour: Inside a brand new powercat with lots of clever features

  • Top stories
  • yacht tours

Reporting from the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival, MBY editor Hugo Andreae takes us on a full tour of the YOT 36, which was making its global debut...

The Catana Group is one of the world’s most prolific builders of sailing catamarans but now it has turned its attention to powercats , starting with this YOT 36.

Marketed under the brand name YOT (TOY spelled backwards), it will eventually include inboard- and outboard -powered craft of all different sizes, but first out of the traps is this new 36ft sporting weekender.

The show demonstrator was fitted with a pair of 300hp Verado V8s for an estimated top speed of 35 knots, but it’s the stylish looks, clever packaging and versatile cockpit layout that are likely to impress buyers the most.

At 3.99m wide, it is designed to fit into a standard 4m berth but folding bulwarks expand this to 5.4m at rest.

Two rows of twin bench seats with reversible back rests and fold-flat mechanisms allow them to face both ways or to link up to form sunbeds. Matching wet bars and tables also make this set-up ideal for long lunches afloat.

Catana Group unveils YOT, a brand 100% dedicated to power catamarans

catamaran yot

At a time when the powerboat market is driving production, and the powercat is continuing to develop, Catana Group is taking the next step. In addition to its two brands, Catana and Bali, which focus on the sailing catamaran sector, YOT will be offering a powercat range, starting with the outboard YOT 36 in September 2023, as Boris Compagnon explains.

Chloé Torterat

Adapting know-how to power catamarans

Catana Group launches a new powercat brand, YOT. With two brands focused on sailing catamarans, Catana and Bali, this new range complements the existing one, concentrating solely on power. Boris Compagnon, Catana Group Marketing & Sales Director, explains this choice: "We're catamaran manufacturers, so it made sense to launch a power catamaran brand. In terms of equivalent length and power, they consume less than a monohull, offer greater autonomy and a wider living platform. It's a continuation of our know-how. Knowing that 8 out of 10 boats in the world today are motorboats, why not attack this market?"

A range of outboard and inboard catamarans

Starting in 2020, this project will see the launch of the first 36-foot model, the YOT 36. This 11 m catamaran with walk-around layout features a bowrider forward and a classic open deck configuration: sunbathing area, saloon and galley. Two cabins will be located on the lower deck. This first model will be equipped with two 300 hp outboard motors. However, the brand will not be concentrating solely on this segment, as Boris Compagnon explains: "Initially, we're launching an outboard range with boats from 36 feet to under 50 feet. In a second phase, we'll launch an inboard range, with larger boats, and a less open superstructure. The specifications will be totally different."

A hub specifically dedicated to motorboats

The approach has been totally rethought, with features specific to motorboats. A dedicated department was created within the group, from design and engineering through production to sales, marketing and branding. J&J Design was chosen to conceive and design the boat. The Slovenian agency is renowned in the industry for its numerous award-winning productions, including the XO DFNDR 9, the Aquila range, and several models from Fjord, Saxdor, Greenline and Targa.

The YOT 36, which will be previewed at the Cannes boat show, is designed for a wide range of programs, from day cruising to weekend getaways for couples or families.

Catana Group launches YOT, the new power catamaran brand

catamaran yot

As a pure-player in the catamaran market, Catana Group has won the hearts of yachtsmen with the Catana brand, recognised as setting the standards for cruising catamarans, as well as with Bali, the concept that revolutionised cruising catamarans.

With an offer essentially based on sailing, the Group needed to offer powerboats featuring the same high standards as those that have made Bali and Catana so successful.

Today, Catana Group is proud to announce the launch of the YOT brand. A new brand of power catamarans that brings a breath of fresh air to the yachting sector.

YOT – An innovative concept forms the genesis of the project

The project began in 2020 with one simple idea: to design and offer innovative power catamarans that effectively meet expectations.

The powerboats in the Bali range are still inspired by the sailing range and retain traces of a sailboat design.  The approach to powerboats has therefore been totally rethought, refocused on the uses and trends in powerboating, a sector which has very specific characteristics in terms of navigation, uses, design and codes.

The concept also centred on the desire to offer something different, based on the Group’s presence and expertise as a pure-player in the catamaran market.

Right from the very beginnings of the project, the ambition was clear: to produce a range of high-end power catamarans, with well-thought-out design and comfort, agile and high-performance seakeeping, good range, reasonable fuel consumption and the ability to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.

Olivier Poncin, his partners and his teams worked towards one single objective: to enjoy being aboard.

YOT – A dedicated brand and division

For this new segment, Catana Group has combined its know-how and over 40 years’ experience in catamaran design and innovation with a team and service providers specialising in motorboating. A dedicated department has been created within the group, from design and studies, through production, to sales, marketing and branding.

Boris Compagnon, Sales and Marketing Director of Catana Group, explains:

« For us, YOT is both a leap into a world where we’re going to have to make our mark, because the offer will be solid and tempting, but also onto a playing field in which we already have full legitimacy with our industrial know-how in terms of catamarans. Catana Group’s DNA brings the ability to have an in-depth and visionary understanding of the market, and it’s through this prism that we have conceived YOT. »

The conception and design have been entrusted to JnJ Design. With almost 40 years’ experience and a passion for boating, the naval architects have an impressive track record and a clear ambition to improve the user experience.

The group’s expertise and capacity for innovation are supported by a new in-house design team with experience in the motorboat industry.

Marketing is also specialised, with a dedicated distribution network, a brand developed with the Mazarine group and its communication tools.

YOT – Experience the power of fun

The YOT brand is aimed at anyone seeking fun at sea aboard a boat.

It meets the needs of both beginners and experienced enthusiasts.

It is designed to meet every need, from day trips to cruising, for couples, sporty trips, parties, gathering with friends, and also romantic weekends.

YOT has a style, a modern and trendy design in step with the new expectations of our times, imagined for living intensely.

YOT offers boats that are comfortable, stable and safe. Seaworthy, agile and powerful, their twin-hull design ensures excellent performance and a smooth passage through the sea. Lively and fun, they combine power with reasonable fuel consumption.

YOT is about having more room on board, more living space giving maximum on-board self-sufficiency. Every square centimetre has been optimised, thought through, and rethought to create generous, functional spaces that are a pleasure to live in.

Boris Compagnon announces a preview of the very first model at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival. « The first YOT 36 unit will be presented in September 2023 at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, and we will be in a position where we can respond to the first owners at the very beginning of 2024. »

Boosted by exceptional growth since the launch of Bali sailing catamarans in 2014, the Catana Group is now setting its sights on the powercat market with a brand-new range named YOT.

Create a notification for "Power catamaran"

We will keep you posted on new articles on this subject.

Gone are the Bali 4.3 and the Bali Catspace MY (a de facto stillborn power catamaran) to make way for new 100% power models that are more compact, more accessible and, above all, available with either outboard motor or inboard diesel propulsion. The first powercat to be presented will be the YOT 36. Its dimensions involve a limited beam (a real plus when looking for a marina slip), yet it features two folding side platforms, giving a total deck area of 410 square feet (38 m²). With two cabins, this model will be ideal for a wide range of uses, and the central wet bar and modular saloon will be particularly appreciated. Forward, the cockpit features a large sun-lounging area accessed via safe side-decks. The powerful outboard motor drivetrain combined with a modern helm station promises great boating sensations. The large fuel tanks will make for an attractive coastal cruising program. The YOT range is built at the Catana Group's fourth production facility, just south of Porto, in Portugal. Builder: YOT (Catana Group) Architect: J&J Design Material: polyester with carbon reinforcements Length overall: 35’10” (10.92 m) Beam: 13’1”/17’9” (3.99/5.4 m) Drivetrain: 2 x 225 HP or 2 x 300 HP Fuel: 150 US gal (2 x 575 l) Water: 40 US gal (2 x 150 l) Number of cabins: 2 Passengers: 10 CE Category: B

SCOOP - YOT, Catana Group's new power catamaran brand

June 19 2023

Written by Yachting Art English Edition

Catana Group, the world's number two in the pleasure catamaran market through its Catana and Bali sailboat brands, creates a surprise by unveiling YOT, a new brand that will carry its powercats offering.

SCOOP - YOT, Catana Group's new power catamaran brand

The French Catana Group occupies a unique position in the pleasure catamaran market.

The world's number two in this segment is the only pure-player, a position it has acquired over the years through two emblematic brands: Catana in the ocean-going catamaran segment, and Bali in the cruising catamaran segment.

With a primarily sailing offering - two motor models have been offered in recent years to assess the market - the Canet en Roussillon-based group had to offer motor boats to meet a strong evolution in demand.

This offer will therefore be carried by a brand specifically created for the occasion - YOT - following the example of the choice made by the Bénéteau group with Prestige to replace Lagoon, and unlike Fountaine-Pajot, which markets its powercats under the same brand as its sailboats: Fountaine-Pajot.

YOT, a specific brand to meet motorboating expectations

It was in 2020 that the project to launch a specific brand for the powercat market was born within the management of the French group.

With the launch of two powercats, the Bali Catsmart MY and Bali 4.3 MY, the group realized the limits of the exercise: these two models were directly inspired by Bali's sailing models, which did not fully meet the expectations of customers looking for a motoryacht.

The work was put back on track, both in terms of product offering and branding: it was decided to launch a range with a specific name. This brand will be YOT!

A different offering on the market

In terms of product, the Catana Group design office, in close liaison with marketing and sales, set itself the goal of offering something different, stemming from the pure-player DNA of the shipyard's catamarans.

The project is driven by a single ambition: "to design a range of top-of-the-range power catamarans, with well-thought-out design and comfort, agile and high-performance seakeeping, good range (often the weak point of powercats on the market, editor's note), reasonable fuel consumption and the ability to cater for the widest possible range of sailors. Olivier Poncin, President of Catana Group, and his partners and teams have been working towards a single goal: pleasure on board".

YOT - a dedicated production unit in Portugal

For this new market segment, Catana Group has chosen to combine its know-how and experience with a team and service providers specialized in motorboating.

A production facility dedicated to this family of yachts has been acquired in Portugal.

Boris Compagnon, Catana Group's Sales and Marketing Director, explains to ActuNautique: "For us, YOT is both a leap into a world in which we'll have to make our mark, as the offer is solid and tempting, but also a playing field in which we have full legitimacy, with our industrial expertise in catamarans. Catana Group's DNA is the ability to have an in-depth and visionary reading of the market, and it's under this prism that we imagined YOT."

J&J Design at the helm

The conception and design of the YOT range has been entrusted to J&J Design, a major player in the sector, who has worked for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Prestige Yachts, Saxdor, Monte Carlo Yachts, Greenline, Aquila, Bavaria R, Rossinavi...

A dedicated distribution network

Marketing of the YOT brand will be entrusted to a specific distribution network, capable of marketing both dayboat and blue water catamarans.

YOT 36 unveiled at Cannes!

Boris Compagnon announces the preview presentation of the first model at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2023.

"The first YOT 36 unit will be presented as early as September 2023 at the next Cannes Yachting Festival, and we have put ourselves in a position to be able to respond to our first owners very early in 2024."

Catana Group is headquartered in France, in Canet en Roussillon

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
