The 288-foot 'Fountainhead' is by the Epic Hotel

mark cuban yacht name

Fountainhead via instagram/jeffjy23 The 288-foot superyacht many thought belonged to Dallas Mavericks owner and Shark Tank star Mark Cuban is currently docked outside the Epic Hotel in Downtown Miami.

Built in 2011, the 'Fountainhead' is no stranger to the Epic, having been spotted there in the past in addition to the large slip a few blocks north at Museum Park. It's the 62nd largest yacht on the planet and in the same slot previously occupied by the $200-million Kismet , which is owned by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan.

The massive vessel is often mistakingly connected to Cuban but it actually  belongs to Sears CEO Eddie Lampert .

“The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it’s mine,” Cuban told Page Six this week. “It’s so crazy . . . I don’t even own a boat.”

He nicknamed his future ride "Buddy" and had it brought in from Canada. Unfortunately, the Department of Homeland Security snatched it up before he could board it .

The reason: Arrington says he noticed an error on the paperwork and refused to sign it until it was fixed. His boat was seized instead.

Bonus: Mike Arrington really wanted a big boat but the government swooped in and took it away.

See Mark Cuban's 288-foot yacht with basketball court on the stern

If you were on Mark Cuban's level, there's you no question you'd roll in style. But would you roll in this much style?

Cuban's 288-foot yacht "Fountainhead" recently was docked outside of Miami hotel the Epic.

If you were walking along outside the hotel, it would be pretty hard to miss this boat.

The Mavs owner is clearly ready to host his players at all times as there is a basketball hoop attached to the stern. Because if a Mav takes a vacation on a yacht the first thing on his mind is practicing on the water, right?

Have to wonder how it feels to be a Miami Heat fan and down on the water is gigantic reminder of the team that beat the locals in the 2011 finals.

'Shark Tank' Star Mark Cuban Anchors Yacht Off Long Island Sound

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Dallas Mavericks owner and celebrity judge on the ABC-TV show "Shark Tank" Mark Cuban has been anchoring his yacht in 50 feet of water off Stamford Harbor for nearly a month.

Mark Cuban's 288-foot 'Fountainhead' is currently anchored off Stamford Harbor.

The yacht has three smaller boats onboard to ferry guests and crew to and from the shore.

An outdoor basketball court is on the second deck overhang.

A view from the stern.

mark cuban yacht name

Measuring 288 feet, the Cayman Island-registered Fountainhead  boasts four decks, a sonar and radar tower, as well as half-court basketball court onboard. Purchased in 2012, the boat is a sister ship to Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's  Musashi, a ccording to a recent Forbes  article .

Cuban also owns Landmark Theaters and Magnolia Pictures but gained fame as owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks. Known for his outspoken criticism of the league and his popularity among players, Cuban has become one of the most recognized owners in all of sports. Additionally, he also serves as a judge on the ABC entrepreneurial show "Shark Tank."

It is unclear as to whether Cuban is currently on board and why the ship has remained anchored here since early June.

On the reality show "Shark Tank," budding entrepreneurs get the chance to bring their dreams to fruition. They present their ideas to the sharks in the tank -- five titans of industry. Each contestant tries to persuade one of the sharks to invest in their idea.

Was that Mark Cuban’s yacht in Boston Harbor?

mark cuban yacht name

Dallas Mavericks owner and television personality Mark Cuban insists — really insists — that a massive, 288-foot-long yacht, complete with a basketball hoop, that had been docked in Boston waters is in no way, shape, or form his vessel.

Boston police Monday begged to differ. They shared on social media an image of kids leaning out from the side of a boat on the harbor, staring up at a glistening yacht they believed belonged to Cuban.

“The kids got a kick out of seeing [Dallas Mavericks’] Mark Cuban’s yacht in Boston Harbor!,” police said on Twitter .

The children were on the police boat, marveling at the large vessel and its many shiny components, as part of the police department’s summertime Jr. Police Academy program. It was unclear when the image was taken. Police did not immediately return a request for comment.

It seems the yacht has since left the Boston area. It was logged Monday as being docked in Portland, Maine, according to MarineTraffic.com .

But were they actually looking at Cuban’s boat?

The “Is-that-Mark-Cuban’s-yacht?” rumors have been swirling locally since the massive luxury ship first arrived in the city’s North End neighborhood, at Boston Yacht Haven, earlier this month .

They go back even further, however. Since last summer, when the boat was spotted in Maine, reports have pegged Cuban as the boat’s owner.

But Cuban told the Boston Business Journal in a message sent through the billionaire entrepreneur’s own app, Cyber Dust, that it’s not his .

“I don’t have a yacht,” he reportedly said to technology reporter Sara Castellanos, before the message vanished.

And he shouted it (no, really, he wrote it in all capital letters) in a statement to the New York Post’s Page Six, after being pestered about the mystery of the boat’s ownership yet again.

“The guy who owns the boat tells everyone that it’s mine,” Cuban told the gossip page in early July, after the yacht, called “Fountainhead,” an apparent tip-of-the-hat to the Ayn Rand book of the same name, appeared in the Hamptons.

“It’s so crazy . . . I don’t even own a boat,” he added, making sure the weight of the statement hit harder than an anchor to the ocean floor.

It’s been reported that the yacht is actually the property of Sears chief executive Eddie Lampert. The conversation about who is at the helm of the yacht seemed to have sunk, for a time, into the depths of the ocean.

But with the latest allegations from Boston police, it looks like the rumors may have bobbed back to the surface.

Mark Cuban’s yacht

Palm Tree Charter’s Capt. John shot this picture of  Fountainhead , anchored off Cruz Bay last week.

The $120+-million super yacht is named in honor of author/philosopher Ayn Rand . Her novel, The Fountainhead , “was incredibly motivating to me,” the multibillionaire has said. “It encouraged me to think as an individual, take risks to reach my goals, and responsibility for my successes and failures.”

The yacht took the Dutch builders three years to complete. It was launched in 2011. Onboard, there is a movie room. basketball court, and a swimming pool . A staff of 35 maintains Fountainhead and Cuban.

There have been no reported sightings of Cuban on island.

How about the 457 foot “Rising Sun” anchored in Round Bay on the 3rd of March…Once owend by Larry Ellison, now by David Geffen!

So Mark Cuban’s yacht has a history to tell. I would love to stay on that yacht in the future. 🙂

I can’t help but see the irony on quoting Ayn Rand with a very rich person…she is hardly someone I would use as an inspiration for my ethical decisions.

I completely disagree…

And to think – my husband & I just want enough money to get airfare to SJ & a boat ride to the BVI’s. Wish I could get a job on that yacht. He’s a fortunate man – love him on Shark Tank. Hope he will be happy & healthy for a long time.

ayn rand was awesome!

Ayn Rand was a fanatical anti-Communist and more than a little paranoid. Do a little reading about her before you heap praise on her head.

Wow the fact that there are people that think there is something wrong with being anti-communist is frightening…enough said….

Mark Cuban’s Yacht

I shot this in Miami, I was actually on my way home and decided to make one last stop at this amazing new port for massive yachts. I took a couple photos and then I left. A couple days later one of my friends told me that this was Mark Cuban’s Yacht. You know Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks.

After doing some research it turns out my friend was right. Let me tell you this thing is awesome. This 288-foot yacht has a basketball court on the stern. Lets just say Mark Cuban rolls in style specially in open water.

Mark Cuban’s 288-Foot Yacht Fountainhead

Osa estimated that it was 250 feet long. While we were gawking, a guy rolled up and started doing some searches on his smartphone. “It’s 88 meters long,” he said. “That’s about 270 feet (288.713911, to be exact). Mark Cuban owns it. He and Mark Ellison of Oracle fame bought twin yachts from the Dutch luxury yacht company, Feadship, at the same time.” Ain’t the Internet wonderful?

Mark Ellison downsized his yacht

The sister to this ship is a downsized version of Mark Ellison’s previous yacht, the Associated Press reported it was 452 feet long, was five stories tall, had 82 rooms, “a wine cellar the size of most beach bungalows, a dozen yacht-length tenders, and a generator capable of providing enough electricity for a small town in Idaho or Maine… Final cost: $377 million.” He got rid of the larger yacht because he didn’t travel with that many people and it was hard to find mooring for something that big.

How do you afford a yacht like this?

In 1995, Cuban and fellow Indiana University alumnus Todd Wagner started Audionet, combining their mutual interest in college basketball and webcasting. With a single server and an ISDN line, Audionet became Broadcast.com in 1998. By 1999, Broadcast.com had grown to 330 employees and $13.5 million in revenue for the second quarter. In 1999, during the dot com boom, Broadcast.com was acquired by Yahoo! for $5.9 billion in Yahoo! stock.

After the sale, Cuban diversified his wealth to avoid exposure to a market crash. As of 2011, Cuban is No.459 on Forbes’ “World’s Richest People” list, with a net worth of $2.5 billion. The Guinness Book of Records credits Cuban with the “largest single e-commerce transaction,” after paying $40 million for his Gulfstream V jet in October 1999 .

What was that strike thing all about?

I’m sure some of you were wondering what that strike thing was all about yesterday. Thousands of websites, some as large as Wikipedia , others as small as my two blogs, went dark for 24 hours to protest two bills that are making their way through Congress. They are ostensibly to stop Internet piracy, but have the potential of crippling the Internet as we know it today.

I’ve experienced the chilling effect of what’s already on the books. I posted a video of a night lightning with a public domain audio of Beethoven’s Fifth playing in the background.

YouTube sent me a notice that they had removed the audio because of copyright concerns. It took 24 hours to get it back up after I provided evidence that the performance was in the public domain. Guilty until proven innocent.

Under the new laws, my whole site could have been taken down and I could have been subject to fines and jail had I been found to have been using copyrighted material. I have a video on my bike blog where I’m passing a slower rider. You can hear my MP3 player in the background. Conceivably, that could be a violation of the law.

If you don’t think they’ll fool with “the little guy,” consider this: we didn’t invade Russia nor China; we went after Granada.

Whats more impressive is that, between 1999 and 2012, Cuban lost $3.4B and he is still on the World’s Richest list.

I guess I should quit complaining about the hit my 401K took.

Wow, your trips are amazing!!!

Isn’t it Larry, not Mark, Ellison?

Congrats on the photos.

I once did the division on Bill Gates’ fortune and figured he could afford three Nimitz class aircraft carriers, including the planes, if he wanted a private Navy.

If I had the money, I’d just buy the Oasis of the Seas and convert one of the smaller decks into my private quarters. That way, the thing would pay for itself and I could take an unlimited number of friends for out sailing.

I always knew he had private plane but this “boat” is even more impressive!

Gotta love a guy who names his megayacht after Ayn Rand’s “masterpiece.” Gah. I know I can’t say here the word I’m thinking of, but it rhymes with “splooshrag.”

Why Mark Cuban doesn't own yachts or hire house cleaners: 'I try to be the same person I was when I was poor'

thumbnail

When it comes to luxury spending, billionaire Mark Cuban draws the line at yachts, butlers and house cleaning services.

"I just try to be the same person, I mean, as I was when I was poor, middle and rich," Cuban, 65, told "The Really Good Podcast" on Thursday. "The whole idea of like, get a yacht ... it's just not what I would do."

Cuban, a serial entrepreneur and startup investor, has a net worth of $5.1 billion , according to Forbes. He's not opposed to big-ticket purchases: He spent $13 million on a 24,000-square-foot Dallas mansion and $40 million for a private Gulfstream V business jet in 1999, shortly after becoming a billionaire . The following year, he bought the NBA's Dallas Mavericks for $285 million.

Rather, Cuban's decision to not pay for certain services is less about frugality and more about his desire for a private life. His family usually does their own chores, like washing clothes and cooking meals, he noted.

"I like the privacy," Cuban said. "I've been around people who hire somebody to do everything for them, and that's just, like, no privacy."

Similarly, Cuban didn't feel the need to make new friends upon entering a new tax bracket, he said: "Most of my friends are guys that I moved to Dallas with or friends in Indiana from school. We still tell the same stupid ass stories and do the same stupid s---, and you know, that's good."

In January, Cuban told CBS's "Sunday Morning" that he'd worked hard to keep his wealth from changing his personality, and that he'd be just as happy with 1% of his net worth . Later in the interview, a group of Cuban's childhood friends confirmed it.

"Little more full of it, but not that much more full of it," Jerry Katz, one of those friends, said. "But still the same guy."

That isn't the case for most people: Typically, the wealthier you feel, the worse you behave, according to Paul Piff , an associate professor of psychological science at the University of California, Irvine.

"As a person's levels of wealth increase, their feelings of compassion and empathy go down, and their feelings of entitlement, of deservingness and their ideology of self-interest increases," Piff said in a 2013 TED Talk .

When that happens, small reality checks can help you get back on track, Piff added: "Small nudges in certain directions can restore levels of egalitarianism and empathy."

Cuban now owns three houses, and refers to a couple of his private jets as his "best toys," he said on the podcast. Buying a private jet "was my all-time goal, because the asset I value the most is time, and that bought me time," he  told Money  in 2017.

Still, Cuban wants to remain the same person he was when he was "broke," he said on the podcast.

"When I was broke, I had a blast," said Cuban. "I loved my life ... I was still having fun."

Mark Cuban Says Acquiring Dallas Mavericks Was All About Fun, Not Billions: 'I'm The Luckiest M*****F***** In The World'

Zinger key points.

  • After years of toiling away at Broadcast.com, Shark Tank host Mark Cuban acquired Dallas Mavericks in 2000 for $285 million.
  • Cuban says this was not planned and he bought it just for fun, paying heed to his father’s advice.

Shark Tank host and billionaire Mark Cuban said he bought the Dallas Mavericks just for fun and that he did not actually have plans to do so.

What Happened: Cuban sold a controlling interest in the Mavericks to the Adelson and Dumont families in December in a deal that values the team at $3.5 billion.

Cuban has enjoyed his time owning the Mavericks, a team he purchased in 2000 for a relatively small amount of $285 million. At the time, it was one of the worst-performing teams in the NBA's history.

‘It Was All About Fun'

But Cuban was a freshly-minted billionaire, thanks to the sale of his media company Broadcast.com to Yahoo for a staggering $5.7 billion . This was Yahoo's most expensive acquisition and netted Cuban $1.4 billion.

"It was all about fun, it wasn't like I'm going to buy this thing," Cuban said during an interview on The Draymond Green Show .

"I'm the luckiest m*********** in the world, right, you know, to come where I come from and then to have multiple Bs next to your name. I never imagined that."

After toiling hard for years to build Broadcast.com, Cuban paid heed to his father's advice to have fun while it's still possible.

"My dad did the upholstery in cars and his thing was always about, you only have so much time on this Earth and you better enjoy it."

Cuban added that it's what he tried to do. "Yeah, I wanted to get paid, but I wanted to get paid so I can… control my own time."

The Mavs Turnaround

To his credit, Cuban has helped the Mavericks make a turnaround – they are currently placed fifth as the regular season draws to a close.

Explaining how he achieved this, Cuban said he went in and told the team that he was ready to do "whatever it takes to win."

"I had this big, tall guy named Dirk Nowitzki, and I let him be Dirk Nowitzki, and I got out of the way," Cuban said on a recent episode of Lex Fridman Podcast .

"I made the decision to go out there and hire 15 different development coaches, one for each player. Everybody thought I was just insane."

"Once the guys believed that winning was the goal as opposed to just making money, attitudes changed, efforts went up, and the rest is history."

‘Never Thought I'd Sell'

Cuban has reaped the rewards of turning around the fortunes of the Mavericks – his $285 million investment has surged by over 12 times between 2000 and 2023 to $3.5 billion.

However, just like he never planned on buying the Mavericks, he says he didn't think he'd sell it.

For instance, Cuban stuck with Dirk Nowitzki despite the Mavericks not winning even one title between 2000 and 2011. He says "Dirk was my guy, no matter what, thick or thin."

Going forward, Cuban will keep a minority stake in the NBA team.
