Total Croatia News
October 24, 2018
The ship’s godmother was Zita Pleše, a recently retired Jadrolinija worker who worked for the national shipping company for 40 years.
The newest ship in the fleet of Jadrolinija, catamaran Jelena, was officially named at the Rijeka port as the 51st vessel in the fleet of Croatia’s national shipping company. Jelena is also the first new vessel purchased for maintenance of the high-speed shipping lines in Jadrolinija, and it was built at the Damen shipyard in Singapore, reports Novi List on October 24, 2018.
The ceremony was attended by State Secretary for Maritime Affairs Maja Markovčić Kostelac, Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel, Jadrolinija’s CEO David Sopta, and many other guests. The godmother of the ship was Zita Pleše, a recently retired Jadrolinija worker who worked for the national shipping company for more than forty years.
The length of the ship, built from aluminium, is 42.2 metres. It is 11.6 metres wide and with the draught of 1.5 metres, a capacity of 403 passengers. The ship will be managed by eight crew members and is able to reach a maximum speed of 40 knots.
It is intended for the carriage of passengers on high-speed lines. The passengers will be accommodated in two passenger saloons on two decks. The ship is fully adapted for transportation of persons with disabilities, and all the passengers will be able to enjoy a coffee shop. The passenger area is fully air-conditioned and the ship is equipped with the latest navigation systems and the water purification system.
The state secretary for maritime affairs said that Jelena was a true miracle of modern technology, significant because it marks the beginning of a new cycle of renewal of the passenger fleet in the Adriatic Sea.

State-owned Croatian ferry company Jadrolinija has presented the latest addition to its fleet in Rijeka on Tuesday.
The new Jadrolinija catamaran was christened in Rijeka.
Built by fast ferry experts Damen shipyards, the catamaran reportedly cost around 11.5 million euros and will be used to connect the central Dalmatian islands with the mainland.

All of Jadrolinija’s fast ferries carry female names and the company has continued this tradition by naming the new addition ‘Jelena’. Other fast ferries in their fleet carry names such as Dora, Dubravka, Judith, Adriana and Karolina.

A day trip to Bol
Bol on the island of Brac is among the top tourist destinations in Croatia known for its nightlife, festivals and one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe – Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn).
So far, visiting Bol as a day trip from Split was less convenient with regular ferries and catamarans as visitors would not get enough time to enjoy the Bol attractions and return the same day.
With this new seasonal line, visitors will be able to arrive in Bol at a reasonable time in the morning and have enough time to explore the sights and enjoy the beaches till the departure.
Despite the situation caused by the pandemic, Bol can expect a good number of tourists to enjoy its beauties this summer season.
