Southampton Boat Show 2023: Your essential guide to Britain’s biggest boat show

  • Theo Stocker
  • September 4, 2023

Theo Stocker takes a look ahead to the 2023 Southampton Boat Show, and finds a massive event packed with new boats, gear and activities

southampton-boat-show-2023

Boat show season starts in earnest in the autumn as boat builders begin launching their models for the next season. Cannes, with its French glamour, is the first of these (12-17 Sept), where the major European builders have a big presence, followed by the Southampton Boat Show (15-24 Sept). Thereafter, most of the shows are indoors, notably Paris and Düsseldorf, followed by more local shows in the spring and early summer.

This is a quick preview of what’s coming up at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show which, for UK readers, probably provides the most interest. It’s remains a good indicator of what’s new in the world of sailing.

Meet the team

The Yachting Monthly team will, as ever, be at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show. We’ll be announcing the winners of this year’s Brian Black Memorial Award – our competition for the best article and the best video about coastal biodiversity as seen from a cruising boat. Judged by Mike Golding, Dee Caffari and Monty Halls, among others, there will be drinks and nibbles on the B&G stand (J377) in Ocean Hall at 1530 on Friday 15 September.

This will be followed by ‘Meet the Yachting Monthly’ team drinks at the Guinness Bar from 1700 on Friday 15. Come along, grab a drink, and say hello to the editorial staff and some of our expert contributors. We’d love to see you and to have a chat over a pint.

Yachting Monthly, along with Practical Boat Owner magazine, will also be sponsoring the Foredeck Stage this year, so keep an eye on the programme for talks by us or some of our expert contributors.

Foredeck stage highlights

  • How to pass your Yachtmaster – Theo Stocker, Rich Falk and James Stevens (13:00-13:30, Mon 18/9)
  • Sailing with spinnakers – Theo Stocker and Rachel Sprot (15:30-16:30, Mon 18/9)
  • VHF radio etiquette – Theo Stocker and Andy Du Port (12:30-13:00, Weds 20/9)
  • Jeanne Socrates in conversation with the Cruising Association and Practical Boat Owner magazine (15:30-16:00, Thurs 21/9)

Things to do at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show

If you want to get on the water, there will be plenty of opportunities at the ‘On the Water’ zone, all for free, though booking may be required. The Try a Boat area includes a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 349 from Flexisail, single-handed and double-handed dinghies, kayaks and paddleboards, with instruction and kit provided by Rockley Watersports.

The tall ship Thalassa will be in the marina, with evening sails aboard for a small fee. For kids, there’s a show-wide treasure hunt, knot tying in the classic boat section, face-painting (at the weekends), scuba diving mini-pool and a watersports lake, as well as flyboard and jetski demos and a whole host of food stalls to choose from, plus live music on the Heart Stage.

If you’re a purist, don’t miss the full range of chandlers, sail makers, electronics, hardware and charter operators at the show. There’s more than enough to keep you busy for a day or two.

Must see boats at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show

the-hanse-410-will-get-its-world-debut-at-the-2023-southampton-boat-show

It’s a world debut for the newly launched Hanse 410

Coastal cruisers

There are a host of cruising boats to see at this show, including a few premiers. The Bavaria C46 is making it’s debut as the latest edition to the high-volume, but seakindly and powerful C-line yachts.

Of the four Hanses at the show, the Hanse 410 is brand new, and the Hanse 510 almost as new. The 410 aims to offer unparalleled living space, while being fun and easy to sail.

It’s a good opportunity to see the whole line up of the Beneteau Oceanis range, where you can step aboard the 30.1, 34.1, 40.1 and the 46.1, though sadly not the new 37.1.

French builder Jeanneau will have most of its new-style Sun Odyssey range on show, including the Sun Odyssey 380, which I tested and enjoyed sailing recently. These boats are set apart by their step-free access to the sidedecks via an incline from the helm.

Bringing two factory-fresh models, Dufour is showing the Dufour 37 and the Dufour 41 , both of which are coastal cruising boats with hulls and sailplans to offer more performance, better sea-keeping and more living comfort with Dufour’s trademark outdoor living spaces.

If you’re keen to see smaller boats, Swallow Yachts, Cornish Crabbers, Astus, Viko and BTC are all worth looking at, and Highlander boats offer a very pretty range of small clink GRP dinghies.

The first image of the new Arcona 50 under sail

Bluewater yachts

If you’re after a blue-water cruising boat, the aft-cockpit Hallberg-Rassy 400 and the centre-cockpit Hallberg-Rassy 44 on the pontoons are both yachts that continue to set the bar when it comes to top-end serious cruising boats. By way of comparison, don’t omit a visit to Rustler Yachts, where you’ll find the traditionally-styled and owner-bespoke Rustler 57, with her low, graceful lines and powerful sailplan.

Swan’s 58 is also worth a look while you’re there. The new Arcona 50 is the brand’s first blue-water cruising boat, yet it still stays true to Arcona’s performance pedigree.

Although not on the water, one name that will be familiar to all sailors is Southerly. Like a phoenix from the ashes, the brand is being revived (again) by Concept Yachts in Southampton, with plans for a new model based around the tried-and-tested lifting keel technology (stand W001).

Tested by us in the next issue, the new J45 from J-Boats is a powerful entry into the cruising sector

Performance cruisers

There will an amazing range of powerful, high-end cruising boats at the show, many of them new to the show, if not the UK.

J-Boats has had decades of success with its racing boats and is looking to appeal to the cruising market with its lovely new J45 , which I tested earlier this summer – the review will be in the next issue (YM, Oct 23).

Beneteau has two brand new performance cruiser racers – the First 36 and the First 44 . The 36 in particular is designed to be fast, fun and exciting to sail without being too demanding on crew or bank balances, with some innovative design touches.

In addition to Jeanneau’s cruising range, I’m very much looking forward to seeing the launch of the very racy Sunfast 30OD, which has been developed in conjunction with racing bodies such as RORC.

Dehler will also be bringing the latest generation of its boats, with the 38SQ and 46SQ. I tested the 46SQ last autumn in some pretty meaty conditions, where the boat showed itself to be quick as well as a proper cruiser.

And don’t miss X-Yachts stunning new fast cruiser, the X43 , which we put through her paces recently.

Nautitech’s Open 44 is aiming for more performance than earlier models

Key Yachting will be showing the brand new Marc Lombard Nautitech 44 Open , which features the trademark helms aft and outboard on both sides, featuring a larger, more powerful sailplan than on earlier models.

Other multihulls we think would be worth paying a visit include Neel’s offering – the innovative and lively 43, which we reviewed earlier this year – as well as several interesting offerings from the likes of Fountaine Pajot, Dragonfly, Excess, Lagoon, Bali and Astus.

Though quite classical to look at, the Squadron 58 hides an array of fun modern features

1. Fairline Squadron 58

One of the few major world debuts taking place at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show, the all-new Fairline Squadron 58 is big news. The old Squadron 58 (2001-2009) is still fondly remembered as one of Fairline’s all-time greats and the new one looks every bit as promising.

Fairline is describing it as ‘a Squadron like no other’ and yet there’s no mistaking the DNA. The exterior has a similar profile to the existing Squadron 50 and Squadron 68 models and it uses the same distinctive trio of aft superstructure fins that have been a trademark of the Squadron line since 1991.

Elements of the inside look quite familiar too, like the aft galley design and the layout of the lower deck with a full-beam owner’s cabin amidships, a starboard twin and a forward VIP. However, the closer you get, the more modern this boat looks.

For instance, in the saloon, the threshold between the lower galley and the upper lounge is subtly angled as are the patio doors separating it from the cockpit. Even the flybridge furniture and bulkheads in the owner’s cabin use playful angles to add interest and free up space where it’s needed most.

yacht shows 2023 uk

The drop-down terraces and dual-access bar look superb

There’s a lot of modernity in the external areas too – not least in the cockpit, which uses modular seating, so you can face forward toward the saloon or aft, through the elegant glass balustrade.

There’s also a new beach club design, with a sliding submersible bathing platform, plus twin drop-down balconies. These enable you to double the deck space at the push of a button – and the fact that the aft bar connects the galley both to the cockpit and to the port terrace makes this region all the more enjoyable.

Up top, rather than dividing the flybridge into distinct zones, the Squadron 58 uses the starboard side for the steps, the wet bar and the twin helm. That frees up the entire port side for an integrated seating and sunbathing unit that extends all the way from the forward screen deflector right aft to another glass balustrade that angles out from the deck to increase the sense of openness.

Seakeeping should be first-class and it should be pacey too. The standard Volvo Penta D13-900s should give 32 knots while the optional D13-1000s will add a couple more.

Fairline Squadron 58 specifications

LOA: 58ft 4in (17.80m) Beam: 16ft 4in (4.99m) Engines: Twin Volvo Penta D13-900-1000s Top speed: 34 knots Starting price: £1,798,800 (inc VAT)

2. Sunseeker 100 Yacht

Sunseeker will be giving UK debuts to two new boats – we have already covered Sunseeker’s new Superhawk 55 at some length in previous issues and while its sure to attract huge crowds, we reckon that the Sunseeker 100 Yacht will make an even bigger splash as the biggest boat at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show.

In a crowded market for 30m raised pilothouse superyachts, what sets the Sunseeker 100 Yacht apart is its thought-provoking reinterpretation of the tri-deck layout. By creating a full-beam walkaround upper level with easy fore-and-aft access to the foredeck lounge, the new Sunseeker’s flybridge is able to encompass almost the entire boat’s length.

It runs, obstruction-free, all the way from the main deck transom steps to the owner’s forward terrace, providing complete walkaround access from bow to stern.

It’s well equipped in terms of entertaining options too. In addition to the flybridge’s central dinette, there’s plenty of space for an optional helm station, free-standing loungers, wet bar and Jacuzzi.

And the foredeck itself also offers two separate seating arrangements, as well as the option of a laser projector and a 140-inch cinema screen for lazy evenings at anchor. Back down on the main deck, the forward owner’s suite leverages the full scale of the yacht’s beam.

In addition to floor-to-ceiling windows on both sides, it also includes a sliding glass door that leads out onto the owner’s private foredeck terrace. And for everyone else, the lower deck provides lavish ensuite accommodation for up to eight guests.

Sunseeker 100 Yacht specifications

LOA: 29.85 m / 97’11” Beam: 6.90 m / 22’8” Engine options: Twin 2,600hp MTU 12V 2000 M96X/M96L Top speed: 29 knots Price: £8,315,000 (ex. VAT)

3. Princess S72

Another boat that made its debut at Boot Düsseldorf in January but hasn’t yet been see at a UK show, the Princess S72 is bound to have British punters queuing along the pontoons at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show.

We always expected it to deliver sportier styling and a greater emphasis on outdoor living than the Princess Y72 , what we didn’t anticipate was just how small the sacrifices would be in terms of space and practicality.

Certainly, the flybridge may be a little bit shorter and the galley/saloon a bit smaller but they’ve done such a good job of rejigging the layouts that you’d barely know it. The flybridge is in fact remarkably large for a boat with this kind of sporting profile – and with the wet bar now positioned in the aft corner, the smell of cooking should waft away with the prevailing wind.

The only thing missing up here is the Y72’s big sunpad but the designers have managed to compensate for that on the deck below where a generously sized sunbed conceals a garage large enough for a Williams 395 and a pair of Seabobs in a separate locker.

You also get a longer cockpit with the addition of a lovely aft-facing seat tucked into the port corner, so for most people, that’s likely to be considered a net gain. Inside, the bright single-level saloon provides a forward lounge behind the twin helm and an aft dining station opposite a wraparound galley.

All enjoy uninterrupted views through big windows and because the sociable sportbridge is set a good way aft, there’s plenty of room for a large sunroof above the lower helm. With that and the side deck door open, it really does feel like a hardtop sportscruiser rather than a sportsfly.

And if you tick the options box for the full-fat 1,800hp engines, it’s also a couple of knots quicker than the Y72. The lower deck, however, is exactly the same as the Y-class boat and that’s a very good thing.

It features a full-beam owner’s cabin with a private staircase and spacious ensuite bathroom. There’s also a large ensuite double in the bow, plus a pair of central twin cabins with shared access to the day heads.

Here, as elsewhere, the S72 feels like an exceptionally polished piece of work. In fact, it does such a good job of delivering the space and practicality of a flybridge with the looks and performance of a sportscruiser that it may tempt a few Y Class buyers its way.

Princess S72 specifications

LOA: 74ft 9in (23.09m) Beam: 17ft 11in (5.45m) Engines: Twin MAN V12 1650-1800s Top speed: 40 knots Price: £5 million (approx)

2023-southampton-boat-show-new-boats-preview-MBY290.newboat_4.001 copy

4. Prestige X60

Making its UK debut is the second boat in Prestige’s crossover X line, the Prestige X60 . At 62ft in length, it adopts a similar profile to the original Prestige X70 , with an inverted windscreen and larger than usual aft deck and beach club. But it uses a subtly evolved version of the X70’s main deck layout.

While on the X70, a full-beam saloon pushes the side decks up onto the flybridge, the X60’s saloon occupies the entire starboard side but stops short of the full beam to port, leaving room for a deeply bulwarked deck on this side of the boat.

A sliding section of glass towards the aft end of the saloon opens up a large aperture onto this deck for plenty of airflow through the saloon and the fact that it sits directly opposite the big aft lounge area makes plenty of sense.

That pushes the galley forward into the space behind the helm, where a second smaller side door provides easy access to the foredeck on the starboard side too. At a stroke, this arrangement helps answer a criticism levelled at the X70 that, in the absence of side decks, it was much harder to rig fenders and take a lazy line forward when berthing stern-to in the Med.

Back outside, the foredeck uses a set of multi-purpose seats on either side of an octagonal table, all set deep in a sunken recess at the forepeak to help make the most of the squared off bow without obscuring the view from the helm.

And at the aft end, a large fold-out aft-facing lounge seat on the transom, just beneath the elegant glass balustrade, fully validates Prestige’s talk of a beach club. The lower-deck feels equally distinctive. It comprises a full-beam owner’s suite with its own private staircase and a lavish transverse bathroom with a spacious walk-in wardrobe that doubles as a changing area.

There’s also a forward VIP and a guest twin, plus plenty of hanging storage. And if long-distance cruising is your thing, you’ll appreciate the fact that there’s a handy spot for a washing machine beneath the access steps to the guest cabins.

Power comes from twin 600hp Cummins QSC8.3 diesels and in a rare pandering to the owner’s propulsive preference, Prestige is offering either V-drives or Zeus pods too.

Prestige X60 specifications

LOA: 62ft 0in (18.91m) Beam: 16ft 0in (4.87m) Engines: Twin 600hp Cummins QSC 8.3 V-drives or Zeus pods Top speed: 25 knots Price: £1.65m (ex. VAT)

It’s all about Med-style luxury with four-season practicality

5. Pardo Endurance 60

Originally introduced at the 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival but making its first appearance here at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show with UK dealer Argo Yachting, the Pardo Endurance 60 subverts the brand’s formula for walkaround Med-style dayboats with a welcome extra dose of four-season practicality.

At 59ft long, with a reverse bow and forward-raked windscreen, it’s certainly a very handsome boat and it’s extremely secure too, thanks to a fully enclosed wheelhouse and walkaround side decks with such lofty bulwarks that there’s no need for any guardrails.

The E60 also adds the upper deck that the brand’s pilothouse-equipped GT line lacks. Accessed from the port side of the cockpit, the compact, low-slung flybridge is designed to offer extra space and flexibility while keeping the centre of gravity as deep as possible.

It can be specced with or without a second helm station and there’s an unusual decking section ahead of the wind deflector, which makes a great place to sit with a view or to stow a couple of bikes or SUP boards .

Back down in the cockpit, a pair of fold-down bulwarks creates an extra 180ft² of cockpit space with great access to the water. The hydraulic hi-lo swim platform is big enough for a proper jet tender and there’s also a retractable sunshade that projects aft from the pilothouse structure.

As for the pilothouse itself, it certainly provides all the protection you need but it also uses an aft galley with drop-down windows on both sides to ensure that when you open things out, the aft end becomes every bit as party-friendly as Pardo’s more classical open boats.

If extended cruising is your thing, the E60’s three cabins, three bathrooms and optional double crew cabin will come as welcome news – and so will the fact that, like the forthcoming E72 of the same Endurance line, the E60 puts running efficiency at the heart of the package.

With a pair of IPS 700s or 800s for a top end in the region of 25 knots, it’s clear that this is more about quiet, comfortable passagemaking than outright pace.

Pardo Endurance 60 specifications

LOA: 59ft 4in (18.08m) Beam: 16ft 10in (5.13m) Engines: Twin Volvo Penta IPS700-800s Top speed: 25 knots Staring price: €1,927,080 (inc. VAT)

This four-berth boat marries rapid offshore performance with day cruiser luxuries

6. Cormate Chase 32

Cormate’s new Chase 32 is designed to combine the performance of a pedigree offshore RIB with the comfort and luxury of a high-end day cruiser. Based on the award-winning Chase 34, with a narrow beam and a deep vee, performance is of course a major selling point – and to help tailor it to your needs, there are plenty of engine options.

With the base 300hp Verado or Mercury sterndrive set-up, you’re looking at a top end in the region of 45 knots. And with Mercury’s mighty 600hp V12 outboard and the big block 8.2L V8 sterndrive also on the cards, 70 knots plus is also a very realistic possibility.

But with its open walkaround layout, this is a versatile boat too. Aft of the twin helm seats there’s an integrated wet bar with double hob, fridge, sink, optional ice maker and wine fridge.

There’s also a dining space for six, plus a large convertible sunlounger and an additional sundeck at the bow. And remarkably, this boat can still sleep four people in two cabins, while also finding space for a separate heads/wet room.

Cormate Chase 32 specifications

LOA: 32ft 6in (9.89m) Beam: 8ft 8in (2.63m) Engine options: Inboard/outboard from 300-600hp Top speed: 45-73 knots Starting price: £254,356 inc VAT

With prices from £86,950 inc VAT, the value on offer here looks exceptional

7. Parker 720 Adventure

This new eight-person day cruiser from prolific Polish builder, Parker , will be making its UK debut at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show. Like most Parker models it treads a very attractive line between practicality, performance and price.

It might be quite a compact platform but in the absence of side decks, there’s a full-beam cockpit with a step-through screen and plenty of room for a big port dinette with a table. When you convert it into a sunbed, a reversing backrest at the port co-pilot seat enables it to extend right forward without in any way obscuring the staggered companionway.

The fact that the screen runs so far aft also means there ought to be decent protection underway, even at the dinette. You also get a sink in the port console plus room for a slide-out gas stove.

Down below, there’s a bright, modern cabin with long raked windows and multiple foredeck skylights. The bed’s footprint looks decent and, remarkably, this boat also manages to squeeze in a separate heads compartment.

Parker 720 Adventure specifications

LOA: 26ft 11in (8.20m) Beam: 8ft 1in (2.46m) Engines: Single outboard up to 300hp Top speed: 40 knots Starting price: £86,950 (inc. VAT)

beneteau-antares-12-cannes-yaching-festival-Antares12-ext-C-0000

Though bristling with day spaces, the Antares 12 can sleep up to eight

8. Beneteau Antares 12

After 45 years in production, people know what to expect of the Antares line and the latest flagship honours that heritage by improving the range of things you can do with your boat. For instance, although it naturally lends itself to dayboating in sunny climates, this new model is also designed with an eye on extended cruises too.

Both the owner’s cabin and the main twin come with ensuite bathrooms – the latter shared as a day heads – and there’s still space for a highly modular third cabin that can be specced as a single berth, a double berth or a storage room.

Factor in the convertible settee in the wheelhouse and this boat can sleep up to eight people at a time. On the main deck, the fact that the structure is offset to port provides plenty of breadth for a large C-shaped dinette opposite a proper galley with a broad companionway running fore-and-aft between them.

There is also a three-part aft door that completely opens up the saloon to the L-shaped seating area of the cockpit, where the flybridge provides some handy overhead shelter and a fold-down bulwark creates some useful extra space.

yacht shows 2023 uk

Up at the helm station, a big skipper’s door gives you direct access onto the secure starboard side deck, enabling you to head forward to a bow space that makes very decent use of the beam-forward design with a three-person sunpad.

The flybridge is also impressive with forward-facing seats for three, plus a wet bar module and a U-shaped sofa with table. Its quest for family versatility does of course make this quite a substantial boat and the engine options reflect that.

You can go for twin V10 400hp Verado outboards or triple V8 300s for up to 900hp and a top speed of nearly 37 knots. Since the twin Volvo D6 diesels found in some earlier versions are twice the weight of the Mercury V10s, it’s easy to see why outboards are the go-to choice here.

But with unchanged fuel tanks, the quoted range of 127 nautical miles at 20.5 knots with the thirstier twin V10s might prove a touch restrictive for some.

Beneteau Antares 12 specifications

LOA: 42ft 7in (12.97m) Beam: 12ft 5in (3.78m) Engines: Twin 400hp/triple 300hp Mercury outboards Top speed : 37 knots Price: To be announced

The 22’s slick and efficient hull can be matched with all kinds of electric, petrol and diesel options

9. Rand Source 22

Rand Boats claims its new Source 22 is one of the most affordable electric boats on the market, as well as one of the fastest – and though it can’t achieve all of that at the same time, it’s a seriously interesting boat.

When propelled by Torqeedo’s Deep Blue 50 outboard, it carries a price tag of less than €100,000 but when fitted with Rand’s more powerful 170kW electric inboard motors , it should be capable of short bursts of up to 50 knots and sustained cruising at 28 knots.

If you’re not ready for electric propulsion, there are also outboard petrol and diesel options up to 250hp but in all cases, the deep-vee hull with its length-to-beam ratio of 4:1 and near-plumb bow should be highly efficient.

The open layout also looks easy to enjoy, with a foredeck sunbed, a centre console with a raked screen and a long cockpit with two helm seats, a table and a convertible transom sofa. The bimini top stows neatly away and there are also some integrated tow mounts for watersports.

Rand Source 22 specifications

LOA: 22ft 0in (6.70m) Beam: 7ft 7in (2.30m) Engine options: Inboard/outboard diesel/petrol/electric Top speed: 50 knots Starting price: €63,900 (ex. VAT)

Compact exterior lines hide a surprisingly spacious interior

10. Bavaria SR33

Making its SIBS debut at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show, is the smallest boat in Bavaria’s award-winning SR line. Elevated hull sides, a charming transom dinette and a first-class drive ensure it does an amazing job of transferring the SR line merits into a relatively compact sportscruiser.

Narrow side decks help provide maximum cockpit space for a large port dinette, a starboard galley and a raised helm. You can opt for a full-scale fabric sunroof or a smaller fibreglass unit here, as well as a camping cover that turns the cockpit into a climate-controlled day space and a sun shade for extra shelter aft.

While the elevated chaise longue to port of the helm is an acquired taste, the volume down below is impressive. Thanks to a bright, bulkhead-free layout, it delivers a generous double in the bow and a large transverse guest double beneath the cockpit, plus an attractive lounge with breakfast bar, lounging space and separate heads.

Its price might hover perilously close to that of the Bavaria SR36 , but this remains a very fine family boat .

Bavaria SR33 specifications

LOA: 37ft 5in (11.4m) Beam: 11ft 4in (3.46m) Engines: Twin Volvo Penta D4 300s Top speed: 32 knots Starting price: €248,000 (inc. VAT)

2023-southampton-boat-show-new-boats-preview-MBY290.newboat_9.Ryds7359158 copy

This is the largest and most versatile boat Ryds has ever built

11. Ryds 735VI

Swedish brand Ryds hasn’t had a UK dealer for years but brokerage chain Boatpoint has now take it on and will be showing a pair of new models. At nearly 24ft, with inboard or outboard propulsion and a neatly conceived walkaround layout, the 735 is the largest boat Ryds has yet built.

It provides the versatile day boating spaces for which the builder is well known alongside facilities for weekends away. It also looks like a modern and user-friendly package with plenty of features to back that up.

A ready-rigged canopy sits on the front of the console so you don’t have to lift the aft bench to erect it. There are plenty of storage solutions here too, including dedicated fender compartments. A raised bow sunpad provides room for four, and, further aft, the five-man cockpit table can be adjusted for larger parties thanks to folding side seats.

There’s also an attractive aft-facing bench and down below, the cuddy cabin makes great use of that foredeck elevation with a remarkably spacious double bed and a separate heads compartment.

Ryds 735VI specifications

LOA: 23ft 7in (7.20m) Beam: 8ft 6in (2.58m) Engines: 175-200hp outboard Top speed: 48 knots Price: £109,500 (inc. VAT)

It’s high-spec, high-performance and highly desirable

12. Nordkapp Grancoupe 905

Those in search of year-round fun would do well to check out Nordkapp’s Grancoupé 905. Practical, spacious and stylish, with dramatic hull lines, inverted screens, tinted windows and high-contrast detailing, this is a radically modern take on the sporting family coupé.

Even in its standard form, it’s a tempting adventure boat, and thanks to sociable outdoor zones fore and aft, plus convertible pilothouse shelter and a pair of decent cabins, it’s versatile too.

But the no-holds-barred V12 model ramps things up in a serious way. For a start, there are no optional extras because everything is included. That extends from the Webasto heating, hot and cold water and electric soft top to the bow and stern thrusters, convertible cockpit and fully featured heads.

Then there’s the engine. While the base 905 is available with a 300hp outboard or twin 225s, this premium variant comes with Mercury’s 7.6-litre V12 Verado 600hp motor for ferocious pick-up and speeds in the region of 55 knots.

Nordkapp Grancoupe 905 specifications

LOA: 29ft 11in (9.12m) Beam: 9ft 9in (2.98m) Engines: Single or twin outboards from 300 to 600hp Top speed: 55 knots Starting price: £240,450 (inc. VAT)

Very few boats in the world can do as much with 41 feet as this

13. Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1295

Jeanneau’s new Merry Fisher flagship packs an enormous amount into its 41ft length. The main deck saloon features a rotating helm seat on the starboard side so the skipper can stay involved with the people at the port seating section.

Further aft, the galley is entirely open to the cockpit, with a fold-out bar that neatly straddles the two spaces. There are deep windows here for big views, plus opening sections for extra ventilation.

Most of the refrigeration and storage duties are taken care of in a neatly integrated unit on the starboard side, which keeps the saloon open and the galley surfaces free. The cockpit itself ramps up the practicality again with an asymmetrical design featuring a long L-shaped settee and table.

That does mean there’s no cockpit access from the port side of the swim platform but Jeanneau has compensated for that with a handy side gate to port, plus an electrically operated fold-down bulwark to starboard. The ladder to the fly does its part, too, with quite a steep design that avoids swallowing up too much space.

The use of outboard propulsion also helps free up plenty of volume beneath the deck for some very generous storage spaces. Further forward, that cleverly offset superstructure helps maximise the width of the starboard side deck, enabling easy access both to the skipper’s side door and to the excellent forward lounge.

yacht shows 2023 uk

A rotating helm seat keeps you involved in the party

Up here, a trio of forepeak seats takes full advantage of that beam-forward bow. They face aft, toward triple sun loungers, creating a brilliant place for up to six people to escape the main party.

Up on the flybridge, there’s room for a sunbed ahead of the starboard helm, plus a C-shaped settee that wraps round the port side, once again enabling the skipper to rotate the seat and join in the fun.

The cruising credentials look decent, too, thanks to a forward owner’s cabin, plus a pair of convertible twin cabins and two bathrooms, each with a separate shower. And yet in spite of these features, a triple rig of 300hp outboard motors will still see the new flagship Merry Fisher right up to 40 knots.

If that breadth of talents appeals to you, the 2023 Southampton Boat Show model will come with £100,000 worth of extras, including diesel heating, a flybridge galley and all kinds of trim and electronics upgrades for an all-in price of £549,995.

Jeanneau Merry Fisher 1295 specifications

LOA: 40ft 9in (12.41m) Beam: 12ft 6in (3.80m) Engines: Triple 300hp outboard engines Top speed: 40 knots Price: £549,995 (inc. VAT)

New to the UK models, including the SunFast 30 and Jeanneau Yachts 55 sailboats, Cap Camarat and Merry Fisher powerboats, and the first British showing of the powerboat DB/43 will also be on display in the marina.

As well as debuts of the Candela C-8 electric hydrofoiling boat, the 10m Scorpion Sting RIB, Sealine’s S390 and Zego Marin’s FATCAT 4500 Multihull will also be at the show.

SIBS 2022

Star-studded Southampton boat show

Fairline hosts the world debut of its much anticipated Squadron 58 at this year’s Southampton International Boat Show . Sunseeker’s 100 Yacht is the largest vessel to showcase at this year’s SIBS. Powered by MTU 12V 2000 M96X as standard or MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines as an option, the 100 Yacht accommodates up to 12 guests and five crew.

yacht shows 2023 uk

The 22.1m Spirit 72 is a Bermudan sloop designed for regatta racing and occasional cruising. The yacht displays all Spirit Yachts’ iconic design hallmarks including long overhangs, flush decks, and curved deckhouse with integrated fan windows.

It has accommodation for eight across three double ensuite cabins and the saloon.

The show hosts the UK debut of the new Hanse 410 sailing yacht. A continuation of Hanse’s collaboration with Berret-Racoupeau yields a ‘groundbreaking concept’ that focuses on fast cruising, easy sailing and customisation.

The all-new Balt Yacht 37 Grand will make its UK debut at SIBS. The flagship of the Balt Yacht range offers generous accommodation and living space, specifically designed for extended cruising of the inland waterways of Europe and inter-connecting coastal passages. It features a full displacement hull, an elevated upper deck steering position and overnight facilities for six in two private en-suite cabins and an occasional double berth in the saloon.

The 100th Balt Yacht SunCamper 35, and the Balt Yacht 818 Titanium returns for the 2023 Southampton show in its coastal guise powered by Yamaha’s 90hp V-MAX. Balt Yacht’s own range of inland and coastal cruisers are exclusively available in the United Kingdom via Bray Marine Sales.

Sweden’s Arcona Yachts will launch the new flagship, the  Arcona 50 , at the show. The Arcona 50 has been in development since early 2022 and is the first model designed by Jeppesen & Pons.

The  Arcona 50  is targeting the high-quality performance cruiser market. Applying the latest and most advanced build technology for both the lamination process as well as the interior, the vessel features vacuum infusion of both hull, hull liner, deck and deck liner utilising vinylester plus local use of carbon fibre and the application of lightweight cored composite and marine plywood panels for the interior.

Pearl Yachts

Pearl Yachts’ Pearl 62 will represent the British brand in association with Volvo Penta. The yard’s best-selling model has been selected to demonstrate Volvo Penta’s new Assisted Docking feature.

The Pearl 62 on display features the Luxury Interior by Kelly Hoppen CBE, who designs exclusively for Pearl in the sector.

Sustainability and tech

For boaters looking at ways to be more environmentally friendly and sustainable, this year sees the launch of the TEMO 1000 electric outboard. Designed for large dinghies and sailing boats, it weighs 10kg with a 5kg removable battery, and it will be demonstrated at the show on the ultra-lightweight aluminium Featherlight RIB from Ocean First Marine.

Mercury will also be showing the Avator 7.5e electric outboard on its stand.

Solar Technology International’s stand demonstrates all the ways to maximise solar energy with the launch of its compact and high energy Mono High Density (MHD) solar panels and new flexi ETFE solar panels designed for boats where space is at a premium.

From Denmark, and on show in the UK for the first time from Current Electrical is the Clayton Power LPSII lithium-powered battery generator. Providing 230V and 12V power for use on yachts, it can be charged from a mains supply, solar charged or wired through the starter battery and charged by the alternator whilst the vessel is moving.

Mactra Marine is launching the Power Up hydrogen fuel cell, which produces power with zero Co2 emissions, and also new to the UK, Advance Yacht Systems are launching the Remoran Wave hydrogenerators.

Throwing light on all this new technology is the Marine Lighting Store, showing a wide range of interior, exterior, navigation, LED, and underwater lighting. Marine Innovations will present a host of new products being launched at the show, including the Power Dome, which shows when shorepower fails, and the Auto Engine Blower designed to help ensure engine bay safety.

Osmotech will be exhibiting the new Mabru 12V DC air conditioning while Scanstrut will showcase the ATMOS 12V integrated air station, which is designed to enable fast and easy inflation of all your towables and paddleboards.

There are plenty of new products on show on the Barrus stand. Barton Marine is showing new carbon tiller extensions and TUPHblocks, alongside a new Rocna MKII anchor from CMP and boat cleaning products from August Race.

For those wanting to learn new skills and gain qualifications, the launch of Ardent Training’s new videos with online and interactive support for the RYA Yachtmaster Online Theory should be of interest.

Multihulls World #188

While the big in-water boat shows such as Miami, Cannes or Sydney demonstrated their attractiveness last year by combining a plethoric offer and undeniable interest from the public, things are not the same for the indoor shows, some of which look to be struggling.

Create a notification for "Boat Show"

We will keep you posted on new articles on this subject.

The most striking example is the “Le Nautic” show in Paris. After 61 editions, the 2022 event was an undeniable failure: when the organizers announced 700 boats, our colleagues from Bateaux.com magazine counted just 273, and that included jetskis and kayaks. The future of the Paris show is now so compromised that we will only learn in March if the event will continue or not, and if so, under what format and when. The other major events far from the sea all seem to be experiencing difficulties, to varying degrees. Given that order books remain full, ever larger boats (making them more expensive to transport) and difficulties in sourcing parts, manufacturers are skipping certain events. As for the organizers of indoor shows, they are confronted, especially in Europe, with rising energy costs. In short, the economic context for boat shows is clear-cut, to say the least: everything is going well afloat, and nothing is going well ashore. Another observation at the end of this first post-Covid year: the shows have demonstrated, if it were necessary, that screens and digital displays can do a lot, but not everything. Visitors and professionals alike are keen to exchange ideas in real life aboard their favorite multihulls!

Saturday 30th December 2023

As 2023 draws to a close, we reflect on Princess Yachts at boat shows across Europe this year and look forward to seeing our guests at the 2024 shows.

Palma International Boat Show

27 th – 30 th April 2023

This growing yacht and superyacht show in the Balearics attracted more than 32,000 visitors to Moll Vell on the waterfront of Palma de Mallorca.  With 270 brands exhibiting and 600 yachts on display across sail and motor, 250 of them in the water, this show was hailed a great success.  Princess Motor Yacht Sales displayed the elegant Princess Y85, the F70 YachtQuarters boat, the Princess V55 and the R35.

‘It was a brilliant show again.  Amazing weather and right next to Palma old town which is great for visitors needing hotels and restaurants across the road, against the backdrop of the stunning Palma Cathedral.  Yachts are moored stern-to, so you see a lot of boats in a small area which creates an intimate and easy to navigate show’, says David Walder, General Manager, Princess Motor Yacht Sales – Balearics.

British Motor Yacht Show

11 th – 14 th May 2023

Back to its earlier slot in the calendar, the UK’s home-grown show, originally born of Princess, Fairline and Sunseeker, is now a key event in the boat show calendar.  There were over 40 boats and 70 brands on display.  Based at Premier Marina’s recently renovated Swanwick Marina in Southampton, on the upper reaches of the stunning River Hamble, the Princess Motor Yacht Sales team were delighted to welcome guests on board the Princess X80, the S62, F55, F50, V50 Deck Saloon and V40.

Basking in the French Riviera’s sunshine against the beautiful backdrop of La Croisette in Cannes, Princess Yachts exhibited an exceptional range of yachts.  Guests and press could witness the World Premieres of the Princess Y80 and Y95, plus the Show Debuts of the S72 and F65, along with the Y85, F45, V55 and V40.  The show at the Vieux Port and Port Canto hosted approximately 700 yachts, from tenders to superyachts up to 50 metres in length, and welcomed 55,000 visitors and 592 journalists.

Southampton International Boat Show

15 th – 24 th September 2023

This much-loved show hosted by British Marine spans 10 days and offers a full range of marine exhibitors including motor yachts, sailing boats, dinghies, watersports equipment and apparel as well as presence from marinas, yacht clubs, associations and more.  Well-known as a family-friendly show, it expands every year to be a truly engaging day out with lots of demonstrations, guest speakers, trials, refreshments and entertainment.  Princess displayed 7 boats headlined by the sensational Princess X80 ‘superfly’ mini superyacht and the UK premiere and show debut of the S72, along with the S62, F65, V50, F50 and F45.  Despite the high winds and torrential rain mid-show, 92,000 visitors still flocked to see the 650 craft, of which 350 were in the marina.

‘Southampton International Boat Show is the premier show for the UK and for Princess.  It’s been very busy for us and a very successful show.  British Marine has done a great job expanding the show and there’s more to attract people than ever before.  The sunshine on the first weekend brought crowds of visitors and queues to view our yachts, and we’ve seen a record number of appointments made,’ says Jo Davies, Marketing Manager, Princess Motor Yacht Sales.
