Bannenberg & Rowell’s Biggest-Ever Design

  • By Yachting Staff
  • August 11, 2023

Freire Renaissance

London-based design firm Bannenberg & Rowell says the 367-foot Freire Renaissance —its largest design to date—will leave the Spanish shipyard in August.

Renaissance is a 7,200-gross-ton yacht with naval architecture by Marin Teknikk of Norway. Accommodations are for 36 guests in 19 staterooms, with the design built to the Passenger Yacht Code as well as to the Ice Class standard.

That much space allows for features such as a sizable swimming pool in addition to a private owners’ pool, multiple bar areas, a helipad, stowage for four custom-designed Cockwells tenders and an onboard pizza oven.

Headroom is a surprising 18 feet in the main salon and dining area, and Bannenberg & Rowell says the yacht’s gymnasium is the largest one afloat. There’s also a wellness center with plunge pools, a steam room, a sauna, massage rooms and a hair salon; an onboard business center; a jazz bar and a cinema.

Is the interior décor dramatic? According to Bannenberg & Rowell, yes. It includes an art collection, custom stained glasswork and backlit onyx bars.

Here’s What Life is Like Aboard a 107-Meter Expedition Yacht

At 107-meters long and rumored to cost over $100 million, New Zealand businessman Graeme Hart can probably boast that he has one of most badass super yachts on the planet. And after watching this video it would be hard disagree with him:

The yacht is named Ulysses and was delivered to the billionaire in 2015 by the Norwegian shipbuilder Kleven Maritime. It is a MT5006 Expedition Support Vessel designed by Marin Teknikk, a naval architecture and marine engineering company that has its roots in offshore oil and gas vessels.

Ulysses is specially designed for longer expeditions in rough water, with a diesel electric propulsion system, a helideck and hanger, swimming pools, all the water toys you can imagine, and a large tender mounted on the bow. So basically everything you need to go anywhere in the world.

And if you’re not jealous already, just think that  Hart is actually  building a second yacht that is even bigger. 116 meters to be exact.

Graeme Hart orders another superyacht

Holly Ryan

Norwegian boat builder Marin Teknikk's impression of what Graeme Hart's new superyacht could look like.

New Zealand's wealthiest man, Graeme Hart, has just finalised plans for another superyacht to add to his collection.

In August, Hart was in Norway to watch his 107 metre $78 million yacht, Ulysses, being launched.

The latest superyacht will be ten metres longer than the Ulysses, and will have a helicopter deck and hangar, room for five large boats as well as smaller boats for expeditions and will accommodate 66 people, according to Norwegian naval architects Marin Teknikk.

"There will be arranged space for and deployment procedures for five large boats that can be carried on for different excursions," Marin Teknikk said. "In addition, there will be a hangar for several smaller boats and equipment for water sports. The latest technology on diesel electric propulsion systems will be installed."

The yacht builder Kleven Verft, based in Ulsteinvik, Norway, also built the Ulysses for Hart, work that Hart noted was impressive.

Read more about Hart's new super yacht here.

"I am very pleased with the quality of the work that has been done by Kleven, and how our organisations have worked together to bring this exciting project to life. I am very much looking forward to seeing both vessels being finalised," Hart said.

Watch: Graeme Hart's $78m yacht being launched in Norway earlier this year

The Ulysses which is expected to arrive in June, is the second Ulysses, with Hart's previous 58 metre luxury motor yacht also sharing the name. It has since been sold and renamed.

The latest addition to Hart's fleet, which also includes a 77 metre superyacht, Weta, is just one metre short of the Royal New Zealand Navy's frigates and 21 metres short of the Navy's largest ship, the HMNZS Endeavour at 138 metres.

Ulysses' naval architect, Paul Endre Saetre, said from Norway that Hart was working with Marin Teknikk as they usually designed offshore vessels for the oil industry.

"It is not a normal yacht design. Mr Hart wanted more of a rough, offshore design, to withstand rough waters," Saetre said.

The latest commissioned vessel is scheduled for delivery in July 2016.

  • Kleven Orderbook Pumped up to $1.8b Maritime Reporter, Nov 2014 #96

Norway’s Kleven has enjoyed a strong Q3 with significant orders from Maersk and De Beers, bringing its  order book to 18 vessels valued at $1.8 billion. De Beers Marine Namibia, part of De Beers Group, signed a deal with Kleven to build a specialized vessel for deep water mineral exploration. While the MT 6022 design from Marin Teknikk is well proven in the offshore construction segment, this will be a first of its kind vessel and will include a wide range of tailor made equipment and features. “Underwater mineral exploration is a new segment for Kleven, and we look forward to working closely with De Beers on the realization of this highly advanced vessel,” said Ståle Rasmussen, CEO of Kleven. “We have had a strong cooperation with Marin Teknikk for many years.”  The contract is divided into two separate phases, with final subject to building approval to be made Q1 2015. The vessel will be built at Kleven Verft in Ulsteinvik, Norway, and is to be delivered in June 2016.

Maersk Orders Six Anchor Handlers Kleven was contracted by Maersk Supply Service to build six anchor handling tug supply vessels, with options for four additional newbuilds. The vessels, all of Salt Ship Design’s SALT 200 AHTS design, will be built at Kleven’s two shipyards in Norway, Kleven Verft and Myklebust Verft, for deepwater operations for potential customers including international oil companies and construction companies worldwide. The first six vessels are to be delivered between the fourth quarter of 2016 and the third quarter of 2017, the builder said. If all options are declared, the last vessel in the series is to be delivered in the first quarter of 2018. “With the many advanced, high-end newbuildings being delivered over the years to come, we want our customers to remain confident that we are prepared to deliver on their demands and provide premium service in terms of reliability, safety and uptime,” said Maersk Supply Service CEO, Carsten Plougmann Andersen. “In our newbuilding project with Kleven, we have carefully designed the entire vessel with this in mind. An example is the installation of the most fuel efficient and flexible hybrid propulsion system with fixed pitch on all side thrusters, providing high reliability and back-up system, good fuel economy, low emissions and excellent station keeping.” The new anchor handlers will measure 95 x 25m with an approximate 4,500 dwt. Boasting DP2, the vessels will have installed power of 23,000 bhp and offer a minimum bollard pull of 230 metric tons.
