Bluegame’s New BG72
- By Victor Tan
- February 16, 2022
Bluegame’s BG72 is a combination of the Italy-based boatbuilder’s open (BG) and flybridge (BGX) ranges. At 74 feet, 9 inches length overall, the BG72 is the builder’s flagship and the largest yacht in the four-model BG series, which also includes a 42-, 54- and 62-footer.
From the yacht’s aft deck, the open-air main deck is accessible via stairs to port and starboard. At the top of the stairs is a forward-facing sun pad that accommodates at least three guests. Forward and amidships, there’s additional seating for eight and a table. On the foredeck, there’s a walk-around sun pad that can accommodate at least six. Abaft the sun pad is forward-facing lounge seating that, with a cushion removed, makes space for a centrally located table. It’s a neat setup for sundowners after a day of cruising.
The BG72’s semi-enclosed helm station, with an additional entrance belowdecks, is just forward of amidships. Bluegame offers two layouts belowdecks. In both setups, there are three staterooms and three heads. Each layout has an en suite stateroom forward and a twin-berth, en suite guest stateroom to port.
In one layout, the master stateroom is abaft amidships with access to the open aft deck. The stateroom has space for free-standing furniture. Its head is to starboard, with his-and-hers sinks. In this layout, the galley is abaft the portside guest stateroom, and there is C-shaped seating for at least nine with a coffee table to starboard.
The BG72’s second layout replaces the master stateroom aft with a full-beam belowdecks salon. There’s L-shaped seating for seven to starboard and a sofa for six to port. The galley location remains the same, making serving drinks a cinch. The forward VIP becomes the master stateroom, while an en suite twin-berth guest stateroom is added to starboard.
Guests can access the sun deck via stairs amidships on the main deck. Here, the sun pad accommodates four.
Standard powerplants for the Bluegame BG72 are twin 900 hp Volvo Penta IPS1200 D13 diesels. Optional power is twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels. Top hops are reportedly 28 and 30 knots, respectively, and cruising speeds are reportedly 25 and 27 knots, respectively. Luca Santella and Zuccon International Project are responsible for design, interiors and exterior lines.

Bluegame debuts BG72 flagship at Cannes Yachting Festival
Related articles.
Bluegame's 21.7 metre flagship BG72 has made its grand debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
The flagship model was first announced at the Genoa Boat Show in 2020 and is described by Bluegame as "the missing link" between its open and flybridge offerings.
Its exterior was designed in-house by Luca Santella, while naval architecture comes from Lou Codega . The interiors and exterior living spaces are the work of long-time collaborator Zuccon International Project . The yacht spans three levels and features a multi-functional beach club area that serves as both a sunbathing spot and storage for tenders. A twin set of stairs lead up to a sun deck, also accessible via the flybridge.
"The new Bluegame BG72 is the perfect expression of its cross-over soul," the yard said. "With the BG72, Bluegame goes even further by combining the concepts of the BG and BGX ranges; the result is a successful fusion of open and flybridge."
Guests enter the main saloon from the aft deck via angular sliding glass doors. “The open saloon that links with a beach area ensures that life flows within the interiors and exteriors,” the yard said. However, the interiors can be tailored to suit each owner: the saloon with direct access from the beach club can be replaced by the owner's cabin, an option only previously seen on the larger BGX models.
The owner of the first hull chose the version with the saloon overlooking the beach area with Canaletto walnut wood and blue tones running throughout the yacht.
The BG72 is the largest in the 'BG' series of motor yachts which also comprises the BG42 and BG62 models. It also takes the spot of Bluegame's former flagship, the BGX70 .

The new BG72
Presented during the Genoa Boat Show, the BG 72 will be the new Bluegame flagship once launched. Clearly inspired by the BG 70, the 22.71m was, as always, crafted by Zuccon International Project around a concept by Luca Santella. The two models share the brand’s core values.
The first of these is a high performance hull (designed by Lou Codega) that delivers a safe, comfortable ride in all conditions as well as surprising manoeuvrability. Large interior living areas that seem to draw the exterior inside are another. In this instance, the upper deck is entirely open and the lower deck is the same as the BGX70.
Another core value is the huge focus on the design, detailing and near-bespoke execution in the interiors. Sustainability is the final box to be ticked and drove many design decisions in line with the Bluegame HTS Lab (High Technology and Sustainability) guidelines.
The most efficient propulsion systems on the market reduce emissions and consumption, while weight is kept low and 80% of the moulds used for lamination are recycled and recyclable. Even the windows are insulated. The new model splashes in the coming months.

Bluegame BG72 test drive: €3.8m yacht takes beach club concept to extremes

Sanlorenzo’s sub-brand is making waves with its radical designs. Is this innovative Bluegame BG72 a blueprint for the modern passagemaker? MBY deputy editor Jack Haines reports...
Nothing quite prepares you for the sensation of stepping aboard the Bluegame BG72. To stand on the bathing platform and be met by such a vast expanse of flat, teak-laid deck on a boat that is under 75ft in length just feels downright indulgent.
It’s a boat that challenges you to think differently about how craft of this size can be configured and to discard any notion of conformity.
Padding across the enormous transformer bathing platform, it’s striking how such a feeling of luxury is created by simply having an abundance of clear deck space.
Though it isn’t loaded with toys and gizmos, because of its acreage and sheer openness it feels luxurious and, like the rest of the boat, can be made into exactly what you want it to be.
Customisation is the name of the game with a Bluegame and there aren’t many shipyards – even at this size – that will allow a customer to sit down with a designer and a blank piece of paper to create a boat that is tailored to their exact needs.
Article continues below…
Bluegame BGX70 yacht tour: Bed to beach club in just 10 steps
Cetera 60 yacht tour: radical €1.2m motor yacht rips up the rule book.
The aft deck is the ultimate blank space, free to be loaded with as much or as little furniture as possible. You can fix furniture here if you want but that sort of defeats the object given you have the raised aft cockpit on the deck above with a great mix of lounging and seating options.
If water toys are your thing then there isn’t a boat in the sector better equipped to serve as a base. Tenders, jet-skis, canoes and paddle boards can all be loaded onto the aft deck with an optional crane to lower them into the water, creating a floating toy chest of epic proportions.
Alternatively, the transformer bathing platform has a lift capacity of 500kg so if you only want to carry a tender it can be launched and recovered from here leaving that aft deck free for sun loungers and bean bags.
Photo: Maurizio Baldi
The transformer platform is a stunning bit of kit that brings a huge amount of functionality to the aft end of the boat.
Leave it level and it extends the usable deck space by a good 10ft but it also lowers into the water, creating a gently declining access point to the water, where the submerged platform becomes a brilliant spot to don flippers, prepare for watersports or simply wallow in the shallow end.
In port, the platform can be raised up to create almost a full-width passerelle, a far more inviting prospect than the usual narrow, wobbly affair.

Bluegame 72 price.
The Bluegame 72’s prices are currently available upon request.
True to the brand’s commitment to defying all stereotypes, the new Bluegame BG72 is the perfect expression of its cross-over soul, which escapes from belonging to a single segment. BG72: THE MISSING LINK BETWEEN OPEN AND FLY
World premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival of the new 72 foot yacht which evolves the iconic BG range encompassing all the excellence offered by Bluegame.
True to its commitment to defy all stereotypes, that has always been the brand’s signature style, the new Bluegame BG72 is the perfect expression of its cross-over soul, which escapes from belonging to a single segment. With the the BG72, Bluegame goes even further by combining the concepts of the BG and BGX ranges; the result is a successful fusion of open and flybridge. The BG72’s remarkable layout, with a completely open upper deck and the original lower deck of the BGX range, is destined to bring lovers of both typologies together, without compromises.
The BG72, designed like all Bluegame models by Architect Luca Santella, maintains the engineering chassis of the BGX models with the high-performance hull created in collaboration with the naval architect Lou Codega and the advanced Volvo Ips propulsion system that ensures high performance and low consumption. The BG72 inherits from the BG range the original simplicity of use, easy maneuverability, comfort, safety during navigation and offers for the first time on an open yacht, a cockpit with 360° visibility characterised by the windscreen with inverted glass and the possibility of total closure which guarantees protection in adverse weather conditions or privacy in the presence of the crew.
Once again, Bluegame has benefited from the fruitful collaboration of Zuccon International Project, which has given great personality to both the profile and the interior and exterior spaces. The outdoor areas are arranged over three levels; the beach area in close contact with the sea, the large living area with sun lounge/sofa in continuity with the dining area, a spacious bow area equipped and flexible on the main deck and, finally, an easily accessible and enjoyable sundeck.
The interiors can be tailored to the owner’s needs, depending on whether living on board in a more convivial or more private way: the saloon with direct access from the platform, as on the BGX, can be replaced by the owner’s cabin, offering stunning views and the opportunity of waking up directly in contact with the sea.
The owner of the vessel that will be presented at the next season’s Boat Shows (Cannes Yachting Festival, Monaco Yacht Show, and Genoa Boat Show) chose the version with the saloon overlooking the beach area and interiors with very distinctive materials and colors: Canaletto walnut wood combined with leather and fabrics in light and blue tones that convey personality and sophistication. For BG72 does not just make itself known, it stands out.
BG72 on “THE ONE YACHT & DESIGN”
- 29 December 2021
“Cross-over soul” by Olimpia Decasa
The BG72, which inherits the ease of use, manoeuvring agility and safe, comfortable sailing from the BG range, offers for the first time on an open yacht a helm cabin with all-round visibility and a reverse windscreen.
The project’s main objective was to make the best possible use of the relationship between exterior and interior spaces. As a result, the day area can be transformed as desired – once opened, the lounge is in direct contact with the aft beach platform, creating an uninterrupted interior/exterior space.

Bluegame displays new BG72 in Monaco
- September 25, 2021
Sanlorenzo’s sister brand exhibited its new BG72 at the Monaco Yacht Show to conclude a three-week swing of shows starting with Cannes and Genoa.
Bluegame has displayed the BG72 at the Monaco Yacht Show following the model’s debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival and appearance at the Genoa International Boat Show. Designed by Luca Santella with Zuccon International Project, the BG72 shares the BGX70’s high-performance hull – created with naval architect Lou Codega – and Volvo IPS propulsion system.
The lower deck on the BG72 also features the same large aft platform as the BGX70 but has a revised lower-deck layout and an open main deck in contrast to the enclosed version on the latter.
The BG72 offers two lower-deck layouts. The first starts with the main saloon and galley, leading to two twin cabins and an owner’s suite forward. The alternative begins with the owner’s suite, with the saloon, galley and a twin cabin midships, and a VIP suite forward.
The decor of hull one includes Canaletto walnut wood combined with leather and fabrics in light and blue tones.
From the aft platform, two staircases lead up to the main deck, which starts with a large sunbed that can be covered by a bimini, while sofas, an adjustable table and a wet bar are all covered by the hardtop.
The helm station is enclosed by windscreens on three sides and the possibility of total closure during adverse weather conditions or in the need for privacy.
The foredeck has a sofa and an island sunpad, and can also be covered by a bimini, while there’s a ‘sundeck’ area on top of the hardtop. Like parent brand Sanlorenzo, Bluegame is represented in Asia by Simpson Marine. www.bluegame.it www.simpsonmarine.com
Carla Demaria On How Bluegame is Disrupting Yacht Design with BGX Series Bluegame CEO Carla Demaria is confident the brand’s flagship BGX70 will enjoy a similar response in Asia as it has in Europe, due to a huge beach club that leads into the saloon and guest cabins, a signature design that will also be seen on the BGX60..

Bluegame BG72 Review: Outside the Box
Bluegame BG72 is a daring yacht designed for owners who love avant-garde design and plenty of space
Following the traditional view on yachts and boats, many owners have an idea of a strict separation of units into cruise yachts and day boats, which are mostly used as tenders. While the first category boasts spacious cabins and dining areas, the second is beloved for open spaces. Yet in recent years, new trends have begun to merge these two seemingly completely separate concepts into a unique yacht design.
New crossover from Bluegame Yachts
The most important name in this new crossover segment is Italian manufacturer Bluegame, part of the Sanlorenzo group since 2018. Starting as a manufacturer of small day cruisers with open cockpit, with the launch of the BX70 Bluegame introduced in 2019 a model with plenty of open space, a flybridge salon, and exterior design very much reminiscent of an explorer yacht crossed with a professional workboat.
In 2021, Bluegame took the BX70 design to the next level with the BG72. The new model takes all the radical design components of her predecessor and elevates them to a new level, adding an open salon on the upper deck. Like all Bluegame models, the BG72 was designed by naval architect Luca Santella, and we had the opportunity to take her out to sea for trials at the Cannes show last year.
Bluegame BG72 exterior
The first feature that caught our eye is the truly huge aft platform which is a natural extension of the spacious aft space. This platform extends almost two meters from the end of the hull, and the platform itself, with the help of strong hydraulics, can be further moved away from the stern by about a meter, and moved one meter up or down in relation to its starting position. The platform is connected to the deck and can serve as a walkway or a staircase leading down to the sea.
From the platform we stepped aboard, finding ourselves on the deck – the stern is basically another spacious teak platform protected on the sides by the high sides of the hull. The purpose of this space, which looks more like the stern of a work boat than a yacht, becomes clear when you realize how much space it offers to the owner, allowing them to use it however they want; filling it with deck chairs or sea toys. Raising the floor at the stern opens up the engine compartment and allows easier access to the engines, generator and air conditioners.

Finally, the superstructure of the ship begins with the main entrance to the interior via a wide sliding door that serve as windows of the salon. On both sides there are stairs that lead to the upper deck, to another salon. Like the rest of the interior, the main deck salon is somewhat unusually decorated, with plenty of dark wenge wood and gray fabrics, perhaps to contrast all those open spaces.
Bluegame BG72 layout
The salon and cabins are accessed via a small staircase below the stern, and the salon is furnished by a black glass dining table, a sofa to the port, a bar that separates the galley from the salon, and a comfortable L-shaped sectional served by a coffee table for coffee starboard.
Below deck there are two guest cabins, each with two single beds, each with it’s own bathroom, and the owner’s cabin is in the bow with a headboard oriented towards the very bow. Another layout is available, with the master cabin astern, and the salon and the galley mid-hull, with one guest cabin and VIP cabin in the bow. Anther staircase took us to the command post, the only fully closed space on the main deck.
The post enjoys excellent visibility and is served by a very clean control panel dominated by three multifunctional touchscreens, the steering wheel and throttle levers and a Volvo IPS joystick. This space allows for excellent visibility and offers protection from the elements. In the bow area of the command post, there is a bench facing the bow.
Outside on the main deck, in front of the command post, there is a large sunbed. Behind the command post on the main deck lies another salon, protected by a roll bar and furnished with a folding that can connect two sofas located opposite each other, a barbecue, sink and refrigerator combo, and with a sunbathing area astern.
Bluegame BG72 range and speed
Powered by two Volvo Penta IPS 1350 D13 engines, the Bluegame BG72 is a true cruiser that sails most efficiently at around 14 knots, with both engines consuming 111 liters per hour, while optimal cruising speed is 25 knots, with consumption around 316 liters.
Maximum speed is 30 knots. BG72 is excellent at breaking waves, especially because of the high bow, while in turns, even at high speeds, it tilts by a maximum of about ten degrees. Rolling is reduced by a gyroscopic stabilizer (standard equipment), which also helps in reducing tilting and jumping. Bluegame BG72 left an impression of a yacht whose daring design reflects well her daring capabilities – and will probably attract equally daring owners.

Azimut's New 72-Foot Yacht Has One of the Largest Flybridges in Its Class. We Hopped Onboard.
Azimut's Fly range , which spans from 50 to 78 feet, has long been the go-to style for yacht owners who are particular about sleek Italian aesthetics but want plenty of onboard space. Its new Fly 72 fits both of those requirements, combining a quality build with the style and panache Azimut owners have come to expect.
As I boarded the boat at the Miami show, the 72 was immediately recognizable for its Alberto Mancini-penned exterior. Mancini, a longtime Azimut collaborator, imbued this vessel with lines that are at once low-profile and slick, but also masculine, thanks to a lightly squared off bow, reverse shearline, and a steeply raked windshield, punctuated with a dark visor. It is dramatically different than the last-generation Fly 72 , showing Azimut's ability to dramatically refresh its line without losing the essential DNA.
Mancini's counterpart on the 72 is the Turin-based interior designer Fabio Fantolino, who has inherited the Fly interiors away from noted architect Achille Salvagni. What Fantolino created in the yacht's salon feels very much like an apartment in Rome, both elegant and functional. Details like leather satchel straps on the sofa set the boat apart, but in a functional way. The cushions slide to make the seating larger or more intimate. A portside galley amidships probably doesn't have the food stowage you'd want for longer trips, but its central location makes it the hub of a chic onboard cocktail party.
One of my favorite features of this yacht's design was a detail on the outer edge of the galley bar where lacquered, aquamarine slats call to mind the louvers common on La Dolce Vita –era runabouts. They share the same veneer as the alfresco dining table supports in the cockpit. That material, in fact, shows up across the boat, helping Fantolino create a vibe that is equal parts fun and sumptuous.
As one might expect for a yacht with Fly in its name, the 72's flybridge is a major focal point. Though its primary use is for entertaining, an upper helm there offers a chance for the captain to enjoy fresh breezes as well as excellent lines of sight. The flybridge stretches aft to cover the entire cockpit, with a rear glass bulwark that makes the deck feel even more spacious than it is.
The U-shaped dining settee with a teak table to port is positioned opposite an amply sized wetbar, while other lounge seating options are both forward and aft. The hardtop overhead has glass sections to let in sunlight as well as electrically actuated shades for when the rays becomes too strong.
A plush flybridge might be something you've come to expect from Azimut, but a pleasant surprise on these boats is the improved work space. Historically, Azimut has not been known for functional details, but the 72 has a third steering station with joystick controls in the cockpit for easier docking, as well as a work area at the bow for crew members working the anchor. That foredeck, by the way, has a large social area with lounges and sunbeds.
Under the cockpit, the twin 1,400 hp MAN V12s were housed in an engine room that offered good access to all work points. Reported speed numbers are 31 knots at the top end, with a 26-knot cruise. Range at 26 knots is 310 nautical miles, enough to make it from New York City to Nantucket, or Miami to Nassau without refueling.
