MCY105 Skylounge

A flybridge is no longer just a flybridge—if Monte Carlo Yachts has anything to say about it, that is. The Italian shipyard has just unveiled a new superyacht with an enclosed flybridge that doubles as a scenic sky lounge.

The new design is a riff on the yard’s flagship 105-footer that was tweaked at the request of its new owner. Fittingly dubbed the MCY 105 Skylounge, the vessel was penned by noted design studio Nuvolari-Lenard and will feature a luxe enclosed flybridge that spans some 463 square feet.

The new space will be outfitted with an upper deck lounge and dining area for the requisite wining and dining, along with a transparent glass ceiling that offers uninterrupted views of the sky and sea. According to designers Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard, the area can also be customized to each seafarer’s needs to give “unmatched levels of freedom.”

“It’s surprising to think that the whole area of the main deck, or the flybridge, can be destined to uses never imagined before, freeing the creativity and fulfilling the owners’ desires in terms of intended use of the space,” the designers said in a statement.

The flybridge is simply the cherry atop this spectacular and spacious superyacht. The yard said the model will “surprise owners worldwide for the impressive volumes, comparable with the ones of much larger units.”

You can expect full-beam living areas on the main and upper decks, as well as an oversized owner’s cabin. Outside, meanwhile, there’s a generous aft terrace that promises “mesmerizing views in palatial comfort” and a bow lounge with sun pads and dining tables.

As the biggest superyacht in the fleet, the MCY 105 is equipped with twin MTU 16V 2000 M86 engines that enable a top speed of 27 knots and a cruising speed of between 23 and 24 knots.

The first MCY 105 Skylounge hull has already been sold and is due for delivery in the summer of 2022. It will spend its initial season traveling around the Mediterranean—where its passengers will be sure to take in some seriously good views.

How superyachts are built: Behind the scenes at Monte Carlo Yachts

The Beneteau Group’s flagship brand Monte Carlo Yachts reveals the innovative way its superyachts are built

Monte Carlo Yachts ’ rise from nothing to one of Europe’s leading luxury yacht builders has been as rapid as it has been remarkable. In just over a decade, it has gone from an idea on a blank sheet of paper to building a seven-strong range of semi-custom yachts from 65ft luxury cruisers to 105ft superyachts .

Even experienced industry watchers have looked-on agog as year after year it rolled out ever bigger, ever more complex yachts that would have taken most yards twice as long to develop. MCY’s former boss Carla Demaria would simply nod conspiratorially and say it was all down to the unique secret build process that the team have developed for its facility in Monfalcone, Italy. Only now has MCY agreed to reveal how the magic happens.

The key to MCY’s speed and efficiency is not a single ‘magic bullet’ but a series of innovations that has enabled it to reduce build times and improve quality. It claims that the time and money saved is what allows it to invest so heavily in the finish and customisation for which it is renowned.

The hull, deck and interior are built simultaneously

The build process is split into three separate elements: the hull, the deck and the interior. Crucially, all three parts are worked on simultaneously so that they are completed at the same time. Only then are the three sections slotted together like pieces of a 3D jigsaw.

What makes this process unique is how far the build goes before the three sections come together. We’re not talking about slotting-in partially completed cabins or lowering a half-finished deck moulding onto a hull; each of the three sections are fully fitted out. All that remains to be done is bonding the sections together and hooking-up the plumbing and electrics. If this sounds too simplistic it’s worth looking in more detail at what’s involved.

Instead of moulding a hull and then strengthening it with internal grids, bulkheads and stiffeners, Monte Carlo Yachts design the whole thing as a single monocoque structure with built-in rigidity. This is not only quicker and easier to build but it takes up less space than a conventional grid, leaving more internal volume and headroom in the cabins.

Sunseeker 116 yacht tour: inside a raised pilothouse superyacht.

It creates the necessary strength by using a combination of self-supporting cored GRP mouldings and an aluminium skeleton along with built-in longitudinal stringers and stainless steel engine supports. All the GRP elements are vacuum infused with extensive use of carbon and Kevlar reinforcement.

A substantial crash box in the bow provides additional strength in this high-stress area along with a sacrificial crumple zone should the worst happen. Almost uniquely in the marine industry the entire hull and all the individual mouldings receive a post-curing heat treatment in the purpose-built paint hall, which doubles as a giant oven.

Once the structure is complete, the empty hull is fully fitted out with engines, plumbing, electrics, tanks and the specially insulated engine room bulkheads. The entire forward section, however, is left empty ready for the interior module to be lowered into it.

superyacht-factory-behind-the-scenes-monte-carlo-yachts-interior-assembly

Interior is built outside the hull on a modular frame…

The interior

Monte Carlo Yachts isn’t the only yard to build its interiors outside the boat ( Bavaria also slots partially completed cabins into the hull), but it’s the only one to do so on such a big scale using a single modular structure. The backbone of the system is an aluminium skeleton that looks like a series of interconnected boxes.

Being modular, the size and shape of these boxes can be adapted to take account of different layout options, so long as the main exterior dimensions remain the same. This explains how MCY can offer multiple cabin and layout options at relatively low cost.

With access to every part of the interior, even service areas normally hidden behind bulkheads, it’s far quicker and easier for craftsmen to fit the complex pipework and cabling as well as the normal furniture, fittings and linings. It also enables them to reach the underside of cabins to add insulation and soft mountings to prevent noise and vibrations being passed through the structure and into the accommodation.

superyacht-factory-behind-the-scenes-monte-carlo-yachts-under-construction

… and is lowered into the hull in one piece

Although the process is hi-tech, the materials used and the craftsmanship involved are as traditional as they come, with everything being manufactured in-house using natural stone, solid woods and the best quality leathers.

The final piece of the jigsaw is the deck, flybridge and superstructure. Again, this is all resin-infused with localised Kevlar reinforcement. The flybridge T-Top itself is pure carbon fibre to minimise weight up top and reduce the boat’s tendency to roll. As with the hull and interior, it is fully fitted out right down to the teak decks, flybridge furniture and electronics for the outside helm station.

Final assembly

The assembly itself is so quick as to be almost anticlimactic. The entire interior is lowered into the hull before being bonded into place. The modular skeleton ensures it fits perfectly with tolerances of no more than a few millimetres. The process is then repeated with the deck.

superyacht-factory-behind-the-scenes-monte-carlo-yachts-final-assembly

The deck is then bonded on top

Plug and play systems mean that all the plumbing and electrics join up so that the whole boat is up and running in a matter of hours. A rigorous system of checks ensures everything is working before the completed boat is wheeled into the paint shop for its final exterior finish. This also explains why customers have a free rein when it comes to hull colours.

Whether this build process results in a better quality boat, a better value boat or simply a more efficient, more profitable yard is hard to quantify.

There’s no doubting that the finished products look and feel as well-built as anyone else’s, albeit not noticeably superior to the construction methods of older, more established yards.

superyacht-factory-behind-the-scenes-monte-carlo-yachts-finished-models

The finished boats look and feel high quality

However, in recent years Monte Carlo Yachts has also become increasingly reticent about revealing the prices of its boats to anyone other than seriously interested customers, quoting the need to retain its competitive edge.

Whatever the true value of the advantage, there is no doubt that revealing the secrets of the build process only helps to boost public interest in this growing yard.

65 Monte Carlo Motoryacht Walkthrough [Boat Review + Video]

Take an extensive tour of the 65 monte carlo motoryacht [senza meta] in miami, florida with jace kizzier..

This article is a transcription of the 65 Monte Carlo video from Denison’s YouTube Channel . Tune in daily to discover the latest yacht video walkthroughs from the world’s largest yacht video collection. Watch the full video below:

Good morning, I’m Jace Kizzier with Denison Yachting. Today I have the opportunity to show you around one of my latest listings a 65 Monte Carlo yacht built in 2016. Since the year this model was introduced the 65 has really grown into her own. She’s become a yacht of choice for owners looking for both elegant style and versatile deck spaces. We’ve said it before on our channel but it bears repeating that the 65 has earned herself a reputation as a mini mega yacht that’s because she shares many of the aesthetics and characteristics of today’s super yachts.

One of the main things I like about this yacht are her ride and stability. This Monte Carlo is equipped with a seakeeper gyro stabilizer that doubles down on her impressive performance. Another thing that enhances her ride is the carbon fiber hardtop on the flybridge aiding in weight reduction. As far as the layout is concerned, the most noteworthy aspect below decks is the full beam master. The owner’s suite and accompanying guest accommodations work in harmony with the rest of the interior that’s flooded with light and accented with warm finishes.

This brings me to what really steals the show, the 65 Monte Carlo profile. From the top down this yacht was designed to impress and carries herself more like a classic car than a dated sport yacht. From the versatility of the flybridge to the bow flare that sweeps aft, this yacht really comes to life when you see her underway.

65 monte carlo stern

Let’s get started today at the stern where you have the primary space where you’ll be in constant contact with the water. This hydraulic teak platform is gorgeous and oversized and is the perfect place to set up some chairs or to lay out your water toys. There are two other well-designed features back here. We see the first to the starboard side where built into the teak stairs is a passarail that makes getting on and off the boat easier. Directly below this is your shorepower hookup. Turn our attention centerline we see the watertight transom door that leads down into the mechanical spaces and crew cabins.

At the foot of these stairs, we first see the ship’s washer and dryer and where the shorepower cable is stored when reeled in. Also tucked away in this area is the water maker. Facing the port side we get a look at the crew cabin that features a pair of berths with a sink and a wet head.

Continuing forward brings us to the engine room. In here we arrive at a pair of MAN V8 engines that generate around 2400 horsepower between the two. Aft of the engines is a 23 kW Kohler generator and just below that the Seakeeper stabilizer. When she’s underway these MAN engines offer a cruise speed of around 25 knots and pushes her at a top speed of 29. When you take into consideration her top speed and the fact that she’s got a stable ride, you can see why this yacht has become a mainstay in the warm waters of the southeastern United States. It’s an ideal platform for making runs back and forth from Florida to the Bahamas.

Our next stop from here is going up to the aft deck which can be accessed from port or starboard. Thanks to our euro style transom. The most outstanding aspect of this space is its classy look and feel and how it combines for a remarkably large entertaining area. Looking centerline we see an alfresco dinette. Here 8 guests can be accommodated around a teak table. Outboard of the dinette is the deck gear to port and starboard. Underfoot throughout the exterior of the main deck is a well-maintained teak sole.

monte carlo superyacht

Looking forward and to port we see stairs that give us access to the flybridge. A huge selling feature of this yacht is the flybridge and more specifically the upper helm. This design makes it easy for you to see yourself running this boat as it’s intuitive and offers you a great line of sight in all directions. Here we see an array of Raymarine electronics including a pair of multi-function displays, engine monitors and the Zenta joystick. To the starboard side of the wheel are the throttles for her MAN engines. Opposite the upper helm to port is an L-shaped bench seat which is the perfect spot for joining the captain on your way back to the dock. Aft of the upper helm is a u-shaped alfresco dinette with a teak table. After the dinette is a grilling station that easily disappears when you aren’t using it. This area also has a sink and an ice maker below. Additionally, there is a fridge right around the corner. Covering the flybridge is a carbon fiber hardtop I mentioned earlier. The way the hardtop is constructed not only lowers the yacht’s centerline of gravity but also adds to the yacht’s sleek look. In the middle of the hardtop is an electrical sunroof. From the flybridge helm the captain has a great line of sight to the bow which is one of the most beloved features of the 65 Monte Carlo. This is our next stop.

There are side decks both port and starboard that lead to the aft deck and to the bow. Also note that the teak sole carries forward as well as teat cap rails. This brings us to one of my favorite areas on board any boat in this class. First we have the sunpads that flank the foredeck. The backs of these raise up offering a second configuration and provide versatility to the space. Outboard of each sunpad is a stainless grab rail that runs up towards the ground tackle. A design feature normally only seen on bigger yachts is the centerline companion way that passes between the sunpads as you make your way to the windlass setup. In addition to the windlass and anchor, you also have huge storage lockers for lines and fenders.

65 monte carlo

Now let’s take a look at the yacht’s interior starting in the salon. A big contributor to the success of the 65 series is the layout of the interior and we see that first with the galley. Its central location makes for easier service between the interior and exterior. Throughout the galley are stone countertops there’s also a full range of Miele appliances including a glass cooktop and stainless sink basin. There’s also a microwave convection oven, a refrigerator dishwasher and a freezer. An important upgrade on this 65 Monte Carlo is the ghost security system integrated throughout the vessel. This system’s primary control panel is found right by the salon entrance to port.

Looking to the starboard side we can see the yacht’s formal dining space. Here a minimal leather top table folds out to reveal a larger hardwood table. On the forward end of the dinette is a TV that raises and lowers. When up the TV can swivel allowing it to be seen from almost anywhere in the salon. Forward of this are a set of buttons that control the salon’s electric blinds. These blinds are a nice touch and make the area usable at any point of the day.

This brings us to a storage cabinet. After the cabinet you find the salon’s AV equipment including the controls for the yachts KVH satellite TV controller. Behind the forward cabinet door is storage for dinnerware and flatware. To port is a comfortable u-shaped settee surrounded by windows. Above the sofa you can see part of the salon’s Bose sound system. Opposite the settee is the lower helm station. Running the boat from down here is easy and this is often the preferred helm station depending on weather. The lower helm is fully loaded with a top-notch navigation package and has the same tools as we saw in the upper helm. Let’s break down what we see here. There are a pair of Bonny multifunction touch screens and integrated is a ship control center for monitoring tank levels and alarms. Looking below the monitor on the port side reveals a seakeeper display, a control for your main displays and the Zenta joystick. On the starboard side of the wheel are the engine throttles. And a primary aspect of this making it great for an owner operator is the side deck access door.

65 monte carlo master berth

Now we’re going to head downstairs to take a look at the VIP stateroom. First we see an island berth with storage running along both sides. On the aft bulkhead is a Samsung TV. Aft of the port side is the ensuite with a separate shower stall. Just a few steps outside to starboard is another guest stateroom. This one with twin berths. It also has an ensuite with a separate entrance from the lower companionway.

Our last stop is the master stateroom located midship. Taking full advantage of the yacht’s 17-feet-1-inch beam, this large stateroom has a surprising amount of usable space and 6-and-a-half feet of headroom. On the starboard side is a wonderful lounging area bathed in light through her whole side windows. Facing forward we can see the TV and just around the corner in the entryway is a vanity. There’s additional storage on the port side between a large wardrobe and cabinetry. Finally, forward is the ensuite which is one of the biggest in this class. It features his and hers sinks and a large shower.

Thank you so much for joining me on today’s walkthrough. I hope you enjoyed this 65 Monte Carlo. If you have any questions or would like to get on board, please reach out to me anytime.

Joining the Gucci-loafer set for a glimpse of superyacht life in Monaco

Sanctions imposed on russian oligarchs don’t seem to have hurt the big-flashy-boat industry.

monte carlo superyacht

MONTE CARLO — Welcome aboard at the Monaco Yacht Show, where the world’s superyachts are bought and sold. Warning: If you find the excesses of the 0.01 percent triggering, avert your eyes.

The scene here is like a parking lot crammed with water toys that cost a cool collective $4.3 billion.

The technical term for the size of these pleasure craft is “enormous.” The top class — the megayachts — are now 100 meters in length — that’s 328 feet, more than a football field from goal line to goal line. There are dozens of these boats on order.

There’s also talk of gigayachts to come. Asked what a giga might be, a top broker joked: “That would be a repurposed aircraft carrier.”

Have one helipad? Sad. Why not have two?

Jet Skis? The new must-have toy is a submersible.

There are onboard elevators, naturally, to get between the four, five and six decks. Surfaces are clad in lost forests of teak and mahogany with gleaming stainless steel accents. The deckhands are constantly polishing, rubbing, squeegeeing.

You might think superyacht sales would be super down, what with global inflation, a real estate bust in China, threats of recession, trench warfare in Europe and — dare we say it here? — a planetary climate crisis. Surprise. You would be wrong.

Italy impounds $700 million megayacht linked to Putin

Russian oligarchs have traditionally been big buyers of showy yachts, accounting for an estimated 10 percent of sales. Sanctions and the U.S. Justice Department’s Task Force KleptoCapture have taken a bite. A lot of the Russian boats — including the $700 million megayacht Scheherazade, allegedly owned by Vladimir Putin himself — have been seized.

But the world is bigger than Russia — and there are more billionaires than ever.

“The sanctions didn’t affect the industry as much as you might think,” said Bob Denison , a top American broker with new offices in Monaco. He said the orders for “new builds” in European shipyards that were canceled because the buyers were placed on sanction lists were quickly snapped up by others who weren’t.

Russian oligarchs loved luxe Sardinia. Now they’re frozen out of paradise.

The problem with the superyacht market today?

“There’s not enough superyachts,” said Jeremy Roche, one of Denison’s directors.

It costs 600 euros ($635) for a day pass to the Monaco Yacht Show. Many well-heeled lookie-loos have come this week to stroll along the blue-carpeted docks and bump into a champagne tent.

And by well-heeled, we mean it. You must take off your shoes to board boats at the show — even if you are the prince of Monaco. So high-end footwear is strewn in front of the gangways, the ubiquitous Gucci loafers jumbled together with sneakers from Dior and Balenciaga that will set you back about $1,000 per pair.

The number of real buyers — the whales — is harder to calculate. A sales rep estimated there might be one buyer for every 100 staff — that’s exhibitors, brokers, deckhands, hostesses, marketers, cleaners, security.

We got an invitation from a friendly publicist to take a tour of Phoenix 2, built by Lürssen shipyard in northern Germany. She’s 90 meters, or 295 feet, with room for 14 guests in seven cabins, attended by a crew of 28 — and on sale for $132 million.

The boat was designed for the “richest man in Poland,” the late Jan Kulczyk, who wanted the interior to resemble an art deco Manhattan penthouse. There’s an Empire State Building vibe, with a lot of black and white — plus a bourbon bar, lap pool, steam sauna, screening room, gym, wine cave, Steinway piano and duplex owners’ cabin.

Henry Smith, a partner at Cecil Wright brokerage, was showing the boat and happy to discuss the evolving market for superyachts — generally, boats more than 24 meters.

Yacht justice: A new front in the war drags Russia’s oligarchs into the spotlight

Three decades ago, a 40-meter yacht would have been gigantic, he said. Today, those are considered midsize. Of the roughly 1,200 superyachts on order in boatyards, about two dozen are more than 100 meters.

“Boats just get bigger and bigger, with prices going up and up,” he said. “The future looks bright.”

The pace of sales is down a bit from the records of the pandemic years, when the ultrarich sought out superyachts as safe havens. But Smith said this year is still good.

He and his brokerage recently oversaw the sale of superyacht Kismet , originally built for Pakistani American billionaire Shahid Khan , owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The boat was on the market for just three months and sold for 149 million euros ($157 million).

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan proves to be the exception in more ways than one among NFL owners

The buyers keep coming, but they are changing, the brokers say.

Traditionally, they have been multimillionaires — 99 percent male — who sell their businesses in their mid-60s and want some high-end downtime with family and friends. The trend now is younger, with younger families, who struck it rich, or as Smith called it, experienced “a big liquidity event.”

He said, “I took on a chap who made several billion very quickly,” who wasn’t sure exactly what he wanted, except that he really wanted … something big.

At the boat show, we learned that sometimes it’s impossible to accommodate everything you need on your superyacht.

Tenders — used to ferry owners and guests from ship to shore — have a low profile and can be stored aboard in what the yachting community calls “the garage.” Robert Oakley of Falcon Tenders will sell you Miss Wonderly for $2.19 million. It’s powered by a hybrid diesel-electric engine, which gives you one hour on electric in port. “Think limousine,” he said.

But where do you put the sub?

Ian Sheard, the engineering director of Seamagine , maker of private submarines, explained it to us.

“You got the big white boat, the superyacht, right?” Sheard said. “Then you need the toy hauler.”

“The ‘shadow ship’ that follows the superyacht that has all the stuff you can’t fit on the superyacht.”

Richer than the royals: Win puts Rishi Sunak’s wealth in the spotlight

His submarines cost $4 million to $7 million and can carry two to seven passengers, with over 12,000 drama-free dives so far.

On our tours of superyachts, the guides often spoke of the boats’ “understated glamour.” But the glamour seemed bluntly stated, which was kind of the point?

Some interiors had a look and feel of a neutral-color Four Seasons. Others brought to mind a Vegas suite for a high-roller.

Aboard the $110 million Kensho, the publicist said that the owner (Udo Müller, chief executive of Ströer Media), wanted “a villa at sea.”

She described it as “more Zen, more calm.”

The kind of calm that three onboard bars might provide.

An older, smaller superyacht can be had for as little as $10 million — the price of an upscale home in Los Angeles or London. But if you are not ready to buy, many of the boats are used by their owners for only a few weeks in the high season and are otherwise available for charter.

To rent the Phoenix 2 costs a base price of $1.22 million per week. That doesn’t include fuel, food, drink, taxes, mooring and dock fees or tips — so call it $1.6 million. We had to ask a couple of times about the bill and were told to keep adding zeros.

It’s the fuel that gets you. A 50-meter yacht making a fast run between Monaco and St. Tropez might burn through $35,000 of diesel.

And even if you don’t go anywhere, a mooring ball or a slip at a primo port can cost thousands of dollars a night.

There was some talk at the Monaco Yacht Show about sustainability — about new green fuels, more gentle anchoring — but it was a sideshow.

Smith, the super broker, put it this way. “Green yachting is mostly a fallacy,” he said, adding, “no illusion, these things pollute.” Though you can mitigate the damage a bit.

He suggested anyone chartering a superyacht for a week “go out and plant a lot of trees.”

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

The new MCY 70 perfectly embodies Monte Carlo Yachts’ values, and the Nuvolari Lenard design emphasizes the yacht’s role as a home-away-from- home with particular attention given to wider interior volumes and enlarged exterior entertainment areas where shaped bulwarks enhance the quality of light and space across the main deck and new portholes and windows create an even more immersive relationship with the ocean and the outdoors.

OVERVIEW

INTERIOR MOOD

The interior decoration on the new
MCY 70 is unique and elegant, and
makes use of geometric patterns and
linear structures to bring together a living experience that is both warm and contemporary. The use of reflective materials and lacquered woods emphasizes brightness throughout the interior spaces. These elements are softened by the natural wood flooring and vertical panels and rich fabrics, which provide a pleasant contrast to the crisp lacquered interiors.

DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY

Other defining traits of the new yacht include a carbon fiber T-Top inspired by MCY largest models featuring lateral supports for a 360° view of the seascape, and an extended Flybridge with a fully customizable lounge area and tables served by an open air galley for a private and elegant al fresco dining experience on board.

For the first time Rosatom Fuel Division supplied fresh nuclear fuel to the world’s only floating nuclear cogeneration plant in the Arctic

The fuel was supplied to the northernmost town of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

monte carlo superyacht

The first in the history of the power plant refueling, that is, the replacement of spent nuclear fuel with fresh one, is planned to begin before 2024. The manufacturer of nuclear fuel for all Russian nuclear icebreakers, as well as the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, is Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC), a company of Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL that is based in Elektrostal, Moscow Region.

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactors of the icebreaking type. Unlike convenient ground-based large reactors (that require partial replacement of fuel rods once every 12-18 months), in the case of these reactors, the refueling takes place once every few years and includes unloading of the entire reactor core and loading of fresh fuel into the reactor.

The cores of KLT-40 reactors of the Akademik Lomonosov floating power unit have a number of advantages compared to the reference ones: a cassette core was used for the first time in the history of the unit, which made it possible to increase the fuel energy resource to 3-3.5 years between refuelings, and also reduce the fuel component of the electricity cost by one and a half times. The FNPP operating experience formed the basis for the designs of reactors for nuclear icebreakers of the newest series 22220. Three such icebreakers have been launched by now.

For the first time the power units of the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power plant were connected to the grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020. The supply of nuclear fuel from Elektrostal to Pevek and its loading into the second reactor is planned for 2024. The total power of the Akademik Lomonosov FNPP, supplied to the coastal grid of Pevek without thermal energy consumption on shore, is about 76 MW, being about 44 MW in the maximum thermal power supply mode. The FNPP generated 194 million kWh according to the results of 2023. The population of Pevek is just a little more than 4 thousand, while the FNPP has a potential for supplying electricity to a city with a population of up to 100 thousand people. After the FNPP commissioning two goals were achieved. These include first of all the replacement of the retiring capacities of the Bilibino NPP, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya TPP, which has already been operating for more than 70 years. Secondly, energy is supplied to the main mining companies in western Chukotka in the Chaun-Bilibino energy hub a large ore and metal cluster, including gold mining companies and projects related to the development of the Baimsk ore zone. In September 2023, a 110 kilovolt power transmission line with a length of 490 kilometers was put into operation, connecting the towns of Pevek and Bilibino. The line increased the reliability of energy supply from the FNPP to both Bilibino consumers and mining companies, the largest of which is the Baimsky GOK. The comprehensive development of the Russian Arctic is a national strategic priority. To increase the NSR traffic is of paramount importance for accomplishment of the tasks set in the field of cargo shipping. This logistics corridor is being developed due regular freight voyages, construction of new nuclear-powered icebreakers and modernization of the relevant infrastructure. Rosatom companies are actively involved in this work. Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL (Rosatom Fuel Division) includes companies fabricating nuclear fuel, converting and enriching uranium, manufacturing gas centrifuges, conducting researches and producing designs. As the only nuclear fuel supplier to Russian NPPs, TVEL supplies fuel for a total of 75 power reactors in 15 countries, for research reactors in nine countries, as well as for propulsion reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world runs on TVEL fuel. Rosatom Fuel Division is the world’s largest producer of enriched uranium and the leader on the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, and decommissioning of nuclear facilities. TVEL also includes Rosatom integrators for additive technologies and electricity storage systems. Rosenergoatom, Joint-Stock Company is part of Rosatom Electric Power Division and one of the largest companies in the industry acting as an operator of nuclear power plants. It includes, as its branches, 11 operating NPPs, including the FNPP, the Scientific and Technical Center for Emergency Operations at NPPs, Design and Engineering as well as Technological companies. In total, 37 power units with a total installed capacity of over 29.5 GW are in operation at 11 nuclear power plants in Russia. Machinery Manufacturing Plant, Joint-Stock Company (MSZ JSC, Elektrostal) is one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fuel for nuclear power plants. The company produces fuel assemblies for VVER-440, VVER-1000, RBMK-1000, BN-600,800, VK-50, EGP-6; powders and fuel pellets intended for supply to foreign customers. It also produces nuclear fuel for research reactors. The plant belongs to the TVEL Fuel Company of Rosatom.
