A Closer Look at the $350 Million Superyacht Dubai
Yachts are made for the sheer enjoyment of the seas and most are made to be luxurious. There are yachts, and then there are superyachts which rule the oceans with their massive size and extravagant designs and amenities. Among the largest superyachts in the world is the $350 million Dubai. This floating luxury vessel is a privately owned yacht that is not available for charter, so the only way to gain access is through invitation. The views from the outside of this sleek and highly stylish vessel are breathtaking but there is little that compares with its lavish interior. This is perhaps one of the most beautiful yachts ever built. At the time of its delivery, it was the most expensive yacht ever built, however, there have been more superyachts commissioned which have taken the top position, as it seems that these super-rich billionaires are in a bit of a competition to own the most opulent superyachts on the seas. In case you’re wondering how this yacht came to be valued at such a high price, we take a look at its build, and the out of this world amenities that take it over the top in sophistication, style and creature comforts.
The creation of a magnificent superyacht
The Dubai was built by the Platinum Yachts shipbuilders. It was the special order of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei. The order was placed in 1996 and it would be a decade before she would launch. The initial project was commissioned from Blohm and Voss along with the Lurssen shipyards. Both shipbuilders were known for creating some of the most extravagant yachts in the world and they were collaborating on this very special megayacht, until 2001, when the project came to a halt. Platinum Yachts assumed responsibility for the project under Sheik Mohammad Rashid al-Maktoum. Platinum Yachts would complete the project with the launch in 2006.
Specifications
The Dubai featured measures 531.50 feet in length. The exterior of the ship was created by Winch Design with the interior design the collaborative efforts of Winch Design and Nakheel Interiors with advisement by Sheik Mohammad Rashid al-Maktoum. The beam measures 72.18 feet with a draft of 16.40 feet. The gross tonnage is 13,470 tons. Her cruising speed is 20 knots and the top speed is 26 knots. A modern stabilization system ensures that the rolling motion effect is reduced when seas are choppy or rough when the vessel is underway, to provide passengers with the smoothest and most comfortable yachting experience and it is also equipped with anchor stabilizers to maintain a stationary comfort when waters are rough. The yacht is powered with four MTU 8,443 diesel engines. The fuel tanks hold 1,250,000 liters of fuel giving the ship range of 9,789 nautical miles. The water takes hold 400 liters of potable water. There is room for up to 115 people aboard with 1 master suite, 5 VIP suites, 16 double cabins and 22 cabins to which can accommodate a crew of 88 workers for the maintenance and daily operation of the vessel.
Interior and accommodations
The interior of the Dubai is among the most extravagant on the seas. It is laid out with several designated areas for sunbathing as well as elaborately built swimming pools crafted with handmade tiling, multiple jacuzzis and mosaic designs throughout the interior. There is a circular staircase made with glass steps, illuminated with lighting that changes colors. There are several social areas as well as formal dining areas, an onboard aquarium, a lounge, and a split level area that shows how spacious the interior is with tall ceilings reminiscent of a lavish museum . There is also a helipad on board for guests to come and go from the ship and enjoy excursions to the shore while the ship is at sea.
The name says it all
Even the name Dubai is associated with incredible wealth and opulence. This ship is among the most lavish and decadent within its large interior. Designer Andrew Winch is credited with the interior design which encompasses a full seven decks in this massive sized yacht. One of the swimming pools onboard the ship feeds a lovely waterfall, creating a natural feeling environment amidst the extravagance that rivals the most exotic high-end luxury hotels in the world. The Dubai is much like a floating palace and it is fully staffed with a complete crew to attend to the needs and preferences of the guests, which are generally limited to around 36 at a time.
Final thoughts
We’ve viewed just a few photos of the interior of the Dubai, and the magnificence of the bold colors and the extravagant designs are almost dizzying. The total investment made by the owner of this floating paradise was $350 million, although we’ve heard rumors that after many of the extras which have been added for special effects, the total spent with the construction of the ship, and the furnishings, artwork and other amenities have brought the total even higher. It doesn’t take much to understand why this ship was so very expensive to build. It’s really a work of art as much as it is a motor yacht. From what we can tell, she certainly lives up to the name Dubai.

Platinum Yachts’ Project Triton Sets Design Standards
By Superyachts.com
Platinum Yachts has revealed exciting details about Project Triton and the inspiration behind the innovative 88 metre new build.
With a single deck engine room and foldable side Beach Platforms, Triton is paving the way for luxury yachts to be more spacious then ever. Platinum Yachts selected a design based on the newest styles and leading technology, whilst keeping the yacht to under 90 metres in length. Triton’s timelessly elegant exterior is the work of Sam Sorgiovanni Designs and Azure Naval Architects.
The 88 metre mega yacht’s intelligent design celebrates space and comfort, with a spacious interior and a large sundeck that can be converted into a fully-compliant heli-deck. There is also a tender garage and plenty of space water sports and diving equipment. Most notably, Triton has been designed with spacious side Beach Platforms, developed in collaboration with Azure Naval Architects and executed by German company Lindsteadt. “It’s an asset to the ship without interfering with the design” says Dirk Dejong of Platinum Yachts. “A large area where the owner and guests can enjoy a water sports orientated area very close to the water line; an area that you can utilize for diving trips. With this everything you need is together in one place”. These foldable Beach Platforms create spacious sunbathing areas without compromising with the yacht's interior volume.
Triton’s main deck accommodates six VIP suites with en suite bathrooms; main salon and dining area. The spacious owner’s suite with his and hers bathroom is located on the upper deck with a private forward facing sunbathing area with Jacuzzi and an informal salon, which can be converted into a cinema linked to the aft outside seating area. Designed for the owner by Platinum Yachts’ own design team, Triton’s interior will feature a glass elevator with open staircase to connect all five decks, creating a striking central feature.
With an emphasis on space and comfort, Triton has a full spa area on the bridge deck featuring sauna, Jacuzzi and massage room. On the sun deck there is plenty of sunbathing space with Jacuzzi, whilst forward facing seating offers fantastic views. Aft main deck there is a large swimming pool, with waterfall feature, surrounded by sun pads.
Run by Diesel-electric with a single deck engine room, Triton is the first of its kind. Dirk Dejong explains, “In the future there will be more interest in this, keeping the lower deck completely free”. With the single deck engine room, the lower deck has room for a guest Lazorrette with diving store; gymnasium with en suite; crew office and cabins; fully-equipped galley and laundry facilities.
Triton is the first of six innovative yacht designs and Platinum Yachts is currently in discussion with designers and prospective clients for the next exciting additions. Like Triton, each yacht will utilize the latest technology and maximize space and comfort. Each will have individually styled exteriors, in keeping with Triton’s timeless design.
"Triton is paving the way for luxury yachts to be more spacious then ever."

6 Of The Largest Yachts Ever Built
W hile gigantic and opulent aren't necessarily requirements for a naval vessel to be considered a yacht, the mere mention of a yacht is synonymous with both qualities. If someone tells all of their friends and associates that they own a yacht, it's probably going to be the largest and ritziest vehicle in their possession.
Even among yachts, though, there are some vessels out in the massive seas of the Earth that absolutely dwarf any ordinary country club yacht in terms of sheer size, weight, and carrying capacity. These vessels are owned by some of the wealthiest, most powerful individuals in the world, created to order by the most prominent and well-respected manufacturers just for them. When you set foot on one of these yachts, you're not just on a boat but standing on an entire floating mansion . Make sure you wipe your feet because you definitely can't afford the floor-cleaning price.

The Dilbar was manufactured by German builder Lürssen back in 2015 as part of a secret project known as "Project Omar." This vessel was constructed for and owned by Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov, though due to sanctions imposed during the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the vessel was seized by German port authorities in 2022. The vessel still remains in German custody at the time of writing.
For an initial price tag of approximately $600 million, the Dilbar measures 156 meters in length, or 511 feet, making it the sixth longest yacht in the world. That comes with a gross tonnage of 15,917, making it a contender for the largest yacht based on sheer volume. A good amount of that substantial size is taken up by the world's largest yacht swimming pool, measuring in at 180 cubic meters. It also features a pair of bow and aft helipads, as well as a 30,000kw diesel-electric power plant.
Project Blue, or just Blue for short, was manufactured by German builder Lürssen and launched in 2022. The vessel was designed by famous yacht designer Terence Disdale, who has won awards around the world for his opulent yacht interiors and striking exteriors. The vessel was created for billionaire and Emirati politician Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan for an estimated price tag of over $600 million. If the yacht was constructed for any particular occasion, that occasion has not been revealed.
The Blue measures in at 160 meters, or 524 feet, with a total volume of 15,320 tons. While official blueprints and documentation of the Blue have not been publicly divulged, yacht experts estimate its passenger capacity to be around 48 guests, plus a full crew of 80. The Blue is equipped with high-performance MTU engines, providing a smooth cruising speed of 16 knots and a top speed of 20 knots.
The Dubai was launched after over 10 years in the bay in 2006. The vessel was initially assembled at the behest of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei in a joint effort between Blohm + Voss and Lürssen under the name Project Platinum. However, in 2001, the project was bought out by Platinum Yachts FZCO on order of the then and current ruler of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed Rashid al-Maktoum, who renamed the project after his own emirate and had it finished up. The Dubai remains in Sheik al-Maktoum's possession to this day, where it docks appropriately in Dubai.
The Dubai measures 162 meters long, or about 531 feet, with a gross tonnage of 13,470. This opulent vessel can accommodate about 72 guests, as well as comfortably house a crew of 115 in its 58 crew cabins. The inside of the Dubai is decorated like a stately manor, with the centerpiece being a beautiful circular glass-step staircase lit in a variety of changing colors. With a quartet of MTU diesel engines, this vessel can travel 8,500 miles at an impressive 25 knots, 26 if you really open it up.
Launched in 2010 by German manufacturer Blohm + Voss, the Eclipse currently maintains the honor of being the third-largest yacht in the entire world. The Eclipse is owned by Russian oligarch and billionaire Roman Abramovich. However, since the beginning of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Abramovich has moved the Eclipse to various ports around the world in order to keep it from being seized due to sanctions.
The Eclipse measures in at 162.5 meters in length, roughly 533 feet, with a gross tonnage of 13,564. The vessel's main deck features a modular 52-foot-long swimming pool, which can be adjusted in length to fit the needs and number of passengers. The pool can also be completely covered with a blue granite floor cover to become a dance floor. Perhaps the most notable feature of the Eclipse, though, is its built-in self-defense systems, including a missile-detection system and missile launchers of its own.
Fulk Al Salamah
Originally announced in 2014 as "Project Saffron," the Fulk Al Salamah was launched in 2016 by Italian manufacturer Mariotti. The vessel is the property of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, ruler of Oman, and is a part of the Oman Royal Yacht Squadron. The Fulk Al Salamah is used primarily as a "Royal Support Vessel," which means it travels around the world with the express purpose of fostering good relationships between the Sultan and other friendly countries. It also serves as a direct support to the head of the fleet, the Al Said.
The Fulk Al Salamah is currently the second largest yacht in the world, measuring 164 meters, or about 538 feet, with a gross tonnage of 20,361. Fittingly for a globe-trotting party ship, the Fulk Al Salamah comfortably houses 40 guests in lavish cabins alongside a full crew of 100. The highlight of the interior is a living museum of art, artifacts, and photos, all from Oman, intended to give passengers a glimpse into the Omani heritage and lifestyle.
Constructed by Lürssen and launched in 2013, the Azzam is not only the largest yacht that the manufacturer has ever made but also the current record holder for the largest yacht in the entire world. The Azzam was originally commissioned for the previous Emir of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. However, after the Sheikh's passing, the vessel entered the ownership of Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who serves as both the current Emir of Abu Dhabi and the President of the United Arab Emirates.
The Azzam's record-setting body measures in at a mighty 180 meters in length, or about 590 feet, with a gross tonnage of 13,136. With a combination of two gas turbines and two diesel engines, the Azzam can carve through the waves at 30 knots. The vessel can carry around 36 guests alongside a crew of 60. Since it's primarily the President's yacht, it is designed to offer unparalleled safety: the walls of the vessel's master suite are completely bulletproof and equipped with a state-of-the-art missile defense system.

Found some pics of the real thing!! Platinum 525 Ft started in 1998; finished it will become the Royal Yacht. This behemoth whose size and facilities more resemble a private mini cruise ship than a luxury yacht had its hull and superstructure built jointly by two of the most prominent German boatyards. She was then brought to the United Arab Emirates for completion, including outfitting of the interior. The vessel was originally ordered and intended for Prince Jafri of Brunei, but was eventually bought out by a Dubai businessman. When launched, she will become the Royal yacht, with accommodation for 24 guests in sumptuous staterooms, each with its own balcony. Facilities will include a barbeque area, a cinema, a disco, a squash court, a gymnasium, a helicopter pad, and a storage area for a submarine. Admin note: Pictures are courtesy of YachtForums member "GoMaarten". (Thank you Maarten!)

Don't you think this new MEGA yacht has several similarities with "Lady Moura"? Look at the end of the funnel where the helicopter is suppose to land, its lines and curves are a scaling-up of the 105m "Lady Moura". Or even the stern area dedicated to teh crew for mooring, it has the same "horizontal-bar" windows/openings! It would be awesome seeing one day "Golden Star" berthed next to "Lady Moura"....
Soon there be bigger.... Golden Star is rumored to cost more than $300 million and is built for Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. This area with Saudi, Bahrain, Kuwait and the Emirates will soon be "The Mecca" even for Megayachts. Look at Dubai, Emirates and the plans for the future developments. The Palm Islands, The World Island. The Dubailand. The Marina....and the boatindustry is booming there. Nothing is impossible and this will soon be the biggest market for superyachts.
Orion thank you, that is indeed better than nothing! What an awesome ship she is!

Platinum Group Metals estimates total capex of $946m for Waterberg PGM project
The DFS projects a post-tax net present value (NPV) of $569m for the South African PGM project as well as an after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 14.2%

Platinum Group Metals has revealed that the Waterberg platinum group metal (PGM) project in South Africa will require a total capital expenditure (capex) of $946m, based on the findings of a definitive feasibility study (DFS).
The DFS was completed by a team including engineering firms Stantec Consulting International and DRA Projects. Engineering oversight and project management for the study was provided by Fraser McGill.
Platinum Group Metals said that the latest study is an update to the Waterberg project’s original independent DFS published in September 2019 for a large-scale, shallow, decline-accessible, mechanised, platinum, palladium, rhodium and gold mine.
The latest DFS for the South African project proposes dry stack tailings technology, including a dewatering plant and dry tailings handling system.
According to the DFS, the life of mine (LOM) of the PGM project increased from 45 years to 54 years.
The Waterberg project is expected to have an annual steady state average PGM production in concentrate of 353,208 ounces and peak annual production of 432,950 ounces.
Platinum Group Metals president and CEO Frank Hallam said: “The primary objectives of the 2024 DFS were to update and minimise capital and operating costs and to simplify the construction, ramp up and operating profile of the Waterberg Mine.
“I believe these objectives have been achieved. We look forward to advancing the Waterberg Project for the benefit of our partners and local communities, as well as all the people of South Africa.”
Located on the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex, the Waterberg PGM project is a joint venture (JV) between Platinum Group Metals, which holds a 37.19% stake, Impala Platinum with a 14.86% interest, HJ Platinum, holding a 21.95% share and Mnombo Wethu Consultants with 26% stake.
HJ Platinum comprises Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National (JOGMEC) and Hanwa. As a result of Platinum Group’s 49.9% ownership in Mnombo, Platinum Group Metals has an effective interest in the Waterberg JV of 50.16%.
The DFS projects a post-tax net present value (NPV) of $569m for the South African PGM project. It projects an after-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 14.2%, with a payback period of 5.8 years.
In addition, the study estimates LOM-free after-tax cash flow of $6.5bn for the Waterberg PGM project.
Platinum Group Metals said it is also evaluating the economic feasibility of constructing a smelter and base metal refinery to process the Waterberg project concentrate outside of South Africa.
The company aims to commence construction at the South African PGM project in December 2025, with the first production expected in September 2029. The ramp-up to steady state at the Waterberg project is anticipated by May 2032.

St. Pete Yacht Club to be torn down, rebuilt in 5 years. Here’s why.
- Bernadette Berdychowski Times staff
Hurricane Ian was a wake-up call, said St. Petersburg Yacht Club rear commodore Joe DiVito.
For several years, St. Petersburg Yacht Club leaders discussed options to renovate the century-old downtown facility on Beach Drive. But after the devastation of yacht clubs farther south in the Fort Myers area from the Category 4 storm originally forecast to hit Tampa Bay , DiVito said they had to act.
“Hurricane Ian was a message that said, you need to plan for the future if you’re going to spend this much money,” DiVito explained.
Their plan? Tear down the yacht club and start anew.
But demolition won’t happen soon. The St. Petersburg Yacht Club is thinking five years ahead, said DiVito, who’s third in command and the club’s appointed project spokesperson. The downtown organization, which has about 2,500 members, needs to raise funds for a project that could cost up to $40 million, find a temporary replacement home and finalize architectural designs to have the rebuilding completed by 2028.
Membership fees would go up from $50 to $125 a month to help finance construction costs, DeVito said.
He added the new building would incorporate the same Mediterranean architectural style as the current club.
The waterfront yacht club at 11 Central Ave. was originally constructed in 1917 and has had several renovations throughout its history. In 1921, it was hit by the last major hurricane to make landfall in the Tampa Bay region, which caused extensive flood damage to the building, according to club archives. Membership still increased after that storm, and the building extended its clubhouse in 1922.
Many parts of the building are now on their last legs, DiVito said. And with a bustling downtown, members wanted more amenities.
Remodeling would be too expensive because the waterfront building isn’t up to newer Federal Emergency Management Agency standards to be insured in case a storm hits. Starting fresh would allow the building to comply with those standards and add amenities and more parking space for a growing membership.
“Looking at the damage of the hurricane and how we’ve been lucky for almost 100 years, it doesn’t make any sense to put $15 million into a building that’s at major flood risk of being hit,” DeVito said. “And you lose all that money and have to start over again because flood insurance doesn’t pay dollar for dollar.”

The Reichel Pugh design is currently under construction in the Netherlands, with launch scheduled for early 2025. "Interior superstructures" are by Design Unlimited in collaboration with Pieter Laureys. Construction is aluminium with a carbon-fibre superstructure.
The brokers pointed out that she "combines a contemporary interior aesthetic with dynamic, modern exterior lines". One highlight is the superstructure and its extensive glazing which provides panoramic views and a feeling of space.

Wide central steps lead up to the twin helms, cantilevered from the bulwarks, as well as a more exposed seating area around a pair of tables on the teak deck. Aft of the inviting, beamy, teak-laid aft deck, the transom hatch opens to form a beach club.
The 304GT Lloyd's-classed yacht for sale features a number of innovations developed by Vitters, including retractable V-bollards for sleek aesthetics on deck as well as a submarine anchor system that "ensures a clean and functional bow and foredeck" as well as keeping the weight away from the bow.
Under her single 591hp diesel engine, Project Magic has a cruising speed of nine knots, range of 3,000 nautical miles and top speed of 12 knots.
Project Magic 's asking price is on application.
