Posted June 1, 2023 in Charter by Ashleigh King

Brand new for 2023, the 219’ (67m) Benetti yacht CALEX is now for charter with Northrop & Johnson. Kicking off in The Bahamas and Caribbean this year, CALEX will set sail for the Mediterranean in spring 2024. Charters start at $680,000 per week, plus expenses.

Brought to life by a collaboration between Benetti, Giorgio Cassetta and her visionary owner, CALEX is contemporary in every detail. Her completely custom design features a one-of-a-kind owner’s suite with a private open-air lounge, the highest quality interior finishes and an unparalleled beach club at the water’s edge. CALEX emerged victorious at the 2022 World Yacht Trophies, taking home first place for Best Layout. With her stellar crew led by Captain Eddie Cooney this is the closest you’ll get to that Hotel de Paris style and service on the water.

With seven welcoming and modern staterooms, CALEX comfortably accommodates up to 12 guests. The expansive master suite, located on the upper deck, offers privacy and relaxation. It features a private office, a spa-like double bathroom and a personal foredeck. Guests can indulge in the epitome of luxury with 180-degree views from the bed or venture through the automatic doors to an exclusive open-air hangout. All cabins boast elegant marble ensuite bathrooms. The main salon offers a sociable space with a spacious U-shaped sofa, armchairs, a full bar, a pop-up TV, and a dedicated dining table. Accessibility is seamless, thanks to a stunning glass elevator connecting the interior decks. The deck furniture can be arranged to suit specific requirements, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship and optimal use of space for which Benetti is renowned.

Benetti unveils photos of 67m Calex

The weekly charter rate for a Northrop and Johnson yacht will be $680,000.

Benetti Shipyard has published the photos of the 67-meter yacht Calex for the first time, delivered to an American owner in early 2022. The vessel, about which information was kept secret, is offered for charter on the eve of the new season.

In Benetti's portfolio, the Calex is the first yacht built in compliance with TIER III standards with an exhaust gas cleaning system for propulsion and generator systems. The interior of the vessel was designed individually by Giorgio M Cassetti. The steel and aluminum yacht accommodates 14 guests in seven cabins. The yacht's crew cabins use the same quality furniture and materials as the guest.

First look: On board the 67m Benetti Calex

Having been launched in February 2022, the 67-metre Benetti yacht, Calex has remained a closely guarded secret. Now offered for charter for the first time BOAT looks at her contemporary interiors ahead of her inaugural charter season.

Delivered to an experienced American owner in spring 2022, the 67-metre Calex was something of a first for Benetti , being the first custom project of this size to fully comply with TIER III regulations. The accreditation is thanks to a scrubbing system for the exhaust gases from both the propulsion and generating systems.

With an exterior designed by Giorgio M Casseta Calex is an entirely custom project built in steel and aluminium with a seven-cabin layout that can accommodate 14 guests. The owners specifically requested that the crew quarters include materials and furnishings of a similar quality to those used in the guest accommodation, making working conditions on board more comfortable for her 17 crewmembers.

The interiors of the superyacht are by Benetti's in-house team working closely with the owner and feature a blend of light and dark shades, white sculptures and marble accents.

Calex has six decks, with special attention paid to the owner’s deck, which occupies 160 square metres and includes a lounge with bar and a 180-degree view that still offers complete privacy. The sliding glass doors of the master cabin leads to a private open-air lounge forward with two white curved sofas and loose furniture.

The master cabin also features a private office, a spa-like double bathroom with marble, frosted glass and wooden features.

Calex’s six further guest cabins include two VIP cabins on the main deck, two kings, and two convertible twin cabins with Pullmans on the lower deck. All cabins have marble ensuite bathrooms and something of a flexible layout, in line with charter clients, with various locations available to provide the perfect spots for socialising or choosing to relax in solitude.

The main saloon is bright and filled with cream furniture and wooden accents. Calex has a large U-shaped sofa, armchairs, a fully stocked bar and dining table. Thanks to a glass elevator connecting the interior decks the yacht is also accessible.

Out on deck, there are plenty of alfresco options for days spent basking in the Bahamian sun. Guests can enjoy meals and entertainment on the main deck aft and upper deck aft, surrounded by uninterrupted vistas.

The sundeck also offers a dedicated space for workouts and yoga. There’s a Jacuzzi and ample space for relaxation. The bridge deck features an outdoor lounge area and a bar. Leading down to the water – and considered one of Calex’s most exceptional features – is the beach club, which has a hammam, another bar, and television and toy and tender storage.

Calex will spend her inaugural season in the Bahamas and Caribbean before cruising over to the Mediterranean. Managed for charter with Northrop and Johnson, she has a weekly charter rate from $680,000.

BENETTI LAUNCHES 67-METRE CUSTOM YACHT M/Y “CALEX”

Benetti launched, in Livorno, M/Y “Calex”, a bespoke 67-metre yacht with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure designed for a Californian owner. The sleek exterior styling is by Cassetta Yacht Designers, while the contemporary interiors, featuring precious marble and fine wood, are designed by the Shipyard’s Style Department. The master cabin is on a deck designed around the owner. Facing forward and looking out onto an exterior space with a lounge area and fireplace, it cannot be seen from the upper decks because of a clever interplay of perspectives and volumes that ensures complete privacy.

who owns motor yacht calex

M/Y “Calex” is the 67-metre full custom yacht launched today in Livorno by Benetti, with delivery to the owner planned for this spring. Bespoke in every detail, the yacht has indoor and outdoor spaces that ensure absolute privacy and comfort and cater to the owner’s passion for exercise and well-being. Cassetta Yacht Designers developed the streamlined, well-proportioned exterior contours, while the interiors designed by the Benetti Style Department feature alternating light and dark colour shades, with the extensive use of maple and American walnut, ivory-coloured leathers, and white statuary and crema marfil marble. The fabrics used for the decorative cushions are by Loro Piana Interiors.

The yacht extends across five enclosed decks, plus a Sundeck, and stands out for her perfectly balanced volumes. The interiors were fitted out using the ‘box in box’ method and meet the highest construction standards, testifying yet again to the shipyard’s exceptional craftsmanship, with new technology used on “Calex” to minimise noise transmission and ensure silent navigation at a speed of 12 knots.

The stand-out feature of this 67-metre yacht is the Upper Deck, which has a surface area of 160 square metres devoted entirely to the owner’s personal spaces. A huge Master Cabin , containing a spacious suite, an elegant double bathroom, a private office and a walk-in wardrobe , extends from midships onto the foredeck outside and offers a 180-degree view, with two curved automatic sliding doors opening out onto an exclusive lounge area furnished with chaises longues, armchairs, a table and an original gas fireplace. While wide open, it is a very private space, much of which cannot be seen from the upper decks as a result of the carefully planned volumes and depths. The foredeck can also be used as a touch and go helicopter pad, giving the owner the greatest possible freedom when coming on board. On the same deck, an open area in the stern, with a dining table and a relaxation area furnished with armchairs and other seating, is complemented by an interior lounge with a TV cabinet.

The stern area on the Main Deck hosts guests in a spacious open-air lounge, while inside we find the main lounge , with a table seating 12 , sofas and armchairs, followed by the galley. The owner also wanted two large VIP cabins on this deck, one on each side of the yacht, with two garages of different sizes in the bow for the main tender and various water toys.

The four guest cabins , two doubles and two with twin beds (convertible), are midships on the Lower Deck and completely separated from the accommodation in the bow for the crew of 16, which at the owner’s request is decorated with materials and furnishings similar to those used in the guest area. Separate guest and crew flows and the use of dumb waiters ensure maximum privacy and excellent service on board, connecting these areas with the galley on the Main Deck and the upper decks.

Also on the Lower Deck of M/Y “Calex”, amidships, is the large engine room, Benetti’s first on a full custom yacht this size to fully comply with TIER III regulations because it is fitted with a scrubbing system for the exhaust gases from both the propulsion and generating systems. In the bow, the spacious swim platform and the beach club are connected to the Main Deck by two fixed stairways. A gullwing door opens onto the swim platform and lets light flood into the interiors of the beach club, where a long swing-down hatch on the starboard side provides easier access to the water and even more light.

The Bridge Deck , which has an outdoor space containing a lounge area furnished with bar, sofas, TV cabinet and barbecue and is served by a pantry, revolves around the captain and the wheelhouse. The large captain’s cabin is separated from the officer and crew quarters to be close to the ship office and the futuristic helm station, which features a touchscreen console designed by Telemar.

On the Sun Deck , the only deck not served by the lift, a central area with gym equipment and a Jacuzzi pool ensure the utmost in comfort and well-being.

Jan. 6 committee didn’t ‘suppress testimony’ about Trump push for 10,000 National Guard troops

If your time is short.

The House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol didn’t publicly release a transcript from its January 2022 interview with former President Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Anthony Ornato, because the Department of Homeland Security was reviewing it for potential security concerns, a letter between the committee and DHS shows.

In the transcript, Ornato said he recalled other White House officials saying Trump suggested having 10,000 National Guard troops on Jan. 6, 2021. But he didn’t say Trump gave an order for that many troops.

Recent reporting claimed the House select committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol hid evidence related to the White House’s response that day.

Conservative news outlets, including The Federalist , The Blaze and Newsmax , reported that the select committee "suppressed testimony" from former Deputy White House Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato that proves former President Donald Trump pushed for 10,000 National Guard troops at the Capitol.

Facebook posts also shared news articles making this claim. These posts were flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta , which owns Facebook and Instagram.)

The news outlets cited a transcript of a Jan. 28, 2022, interview with Ornato that Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., who leads the House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight, publicly released March 8. House Republicans have reopened an investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack because they deemed the select committee’s work "incomplete."

"The Select Committee’s failure to disclose this transcript is additional evidence that the Select Committee only released evidence that fit their narrative," the Oversight Subcommittee said in its first report , released March 11.

The Jan. 6 select committee, composed of seven Democratic members and two Republican members, concluded its work in December 2022 with a 845-page final report . During its 18-month investigation , the select committee held 10 public hearings, interviewed more than 1,000 witnesses and collected more than 1 million documents.

Ornato’s January 2022 interview transcript was not publicly released until recently for security reasons, Reps. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., and Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., told PolitiFact. Both Raskin and Lofgren served on the select committee.

The transcript aligns with the select committee’s conclusion that Trump didn’t order the deployment of 10,000 National Guard troops before or during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. It provides no evidence to negate this finding.

We previously fact-checked claims that Trump requested thousands of troops and Democrats rejected this request. These claims are False. There’s no evidence Trump gave this order.

As part of the select committee’s investigation, the committee members and staff interviewed Ornato and Secret Service personnel. Ornato left the Secret Service in 2019 to become Trump’s deputy chief of staff and was still in that role Jan. 6, 2021.

The select committee was "obligated to return certain Secret Service transcripts," including this Ornato transcript, to the Department of Homeland Security "for redaction of sensitive security information before public release," Raskin told PolitiFact.

Lofgren also said this was the case.

This obligation was documented in a publicly available letter the select committee sent to the Department of Homeland Security in December 2022.

The letter said the transcribed interviews with Secret Service personnel were "not intended for public release" at the Secret Service’s direction. Therefore, the select committee said it summarized facts from these interviews for its final report without revealing the Secret Services’ operational details or its agents’ personal information.

One of Ornato’s transcribed interviews, conducted in November 2022 , was among the select committee’s publicly released materials . The committee said in the letter that this transcript was published because it "addressed a range of intelligence information important to the Committee’s conclusions about January 6th."

The committee noted in the letter that Ornato was not a functioning Secret Service agent at the time and it significantly redacted the November 2022 transcript to address the Secret Service’s security concerns.

The Oversight Subcommittee said in its report that Loudermilk sent letters to the Department of Homeland Security in August 2023 and January 2024 requesting all of the select committee’s interview transcripts. The department said it possessed 12 transcripts and gave the subcommittee six of them. The others have not been released because the department’s review is not complete, the Oversight Subcommittee’s report said.

In the 153-page transcript of Ornato’s January 2022 interview, mentions the National Guard multiple times. Ornato said he recalled Trump floating the number 10,000, but said the president never gave the order.

First, Ornato was asked whether he knew if Trump had asked Jan. 4, 2021, for 10,000 National Guard troops to be deployed Jan. 6, 2021.

Ornato responded, "I was not aware of that."

Soon after, Ornato was asked again whether he recalled any discussions before Jan. 6, 2021, about "having 10,000 troops or any other number of troops" to deploy.

Ornato said he recalled overhearing a phone conversation a day or two before the Capitol attack between Trump’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser in which Meadows asked if Bowser needed more guards. Ornato said he had heard only Meadows’ side of the conversation.

"I remember the number 10,000 coming up, you know, the president wants to make sure that you have enough. You know, he is willing to ask for 10,000," Ornato said. "I remember that number. Now that you said it, it reminded me of it."

Ornato said he did not hear any discussion of 10,000 troops after this. Ornato said Meadows asked the Defense Department to set up a quick reaction force at Joint Base Andrews, just outside of Washington, D.C., in case additional National Guard troops were needed.

When asked, Ornato said he knew of no order to deploy National Guard troops on the morning of Jan. 6, 2021.

"And apart from that conversation that you overheard with Mayor Bowser and Chief Meadows, you did not learn of any other additional efforts or (an) order regarding 10,000 troops?" Senior Investigative Counsel Soumyalatha Dayananda asked Ornato.

Ornato responded, "No, not 10,000 troops, no."

Conservative news outlets and social media posts claimed the Jan. 6 select committee "suppressed testimony" from Ornato that proves Trump pushed for 10,000 National Guard troops at the Capitol.

The select committee did not release this transcribed interview with Ornato because it was under the Department of Homeland Security’s review. As a former Secret Service member, Ornato’s transcript needed to be reviewed for potential security concerns.

The select committee considered Ornato’s and other Secret Service testimony when publishing its final report on the Jan. 6, 2021, attack. The report concluded that Trump did not directly order deploying 10,000 National Guard troops before or during the attack. Ornato’s interview transcript does not negate this finding.

We rate the claim that the Jan. 6 select committee "suppressed testimony" involving 10,000 National Guard troops False.
