I am very pleased to have been elected and therefore trusted to represent and manage our members interests with their moorings, launch service and associated shoreside facilities. At the 4th February AGM, a resolution was passed that I will endeavour to fufill. That was to ensure that the M&B Committee are transparent in its business plan, administration of and allocation of moorings, services including launch service, winter storage, dinghy park and all the latter waiting lists.

Members with commercial vehicles that extend beyond the white painted boxes are asked to park in City Road car park.
The City Road car park is restricted to members’ and their guests’ cars during the summer season. To ensure parking for as many members as possible, no vessels or trailers are to be parked in the City Road car park without the permission of the Moorings and Boatyard Committee.

It might take a while before you decide to leave this place, because the magical array of fragrances and colors is mesmerizing. Visitors, who walk on the alleys of The Beth Chatto Gardens, have the opportunity to feel the serenity offered by nature’s gifts. A short glimpse of history can be caught by tourists while visiting Paycocke's, a National Trust Property.

Up River Yacht Club
Sailing at its best
West Mersea
Probably the liveliest sailing centre on the East Coast. Steeped in history with a great sailing and fishing heritage. Famous for its oysters. An easy day sail from Up River with access at all states of the tide via a well buoyed channel. The creeks offer good protection from all wind directions and extensive deep water moorings.
Food and drink
Several pubs, cafes and restaurants within a few hundred metres of the landing stage. In addition, the West Mersea Yacht Club (open 7 days a week) offers a great menu and beer at £2.40 a pint (who needs Wetherspoons!).
No tenders required
The club has full time launches that operate as water taxis for members and visitors from 8am to 11.00pm. Tip; call them on Channel 37 on arrival and they will show you to a vacant mooring. Then call them up to be taken ashore and keep their mobile numbers to hand to call them again to get a lift back to your boat, £2 per person per journey. But free return to your boat if you eat or drink at the Yacht Club.

The waterfront
Those famous houseboats, thriving dinghy and sailing training centre. Authentic quality fish restaurants; notably ‘ The Company Shed ’ during the day and ‘ The Oyster Bar ’ for evening meals. Reservations essential.
Picture postcard fisherman’s cottages. Some nice coastal walks . Easily accessible clean dog friendly beach. Coastal park and paths. Small town with the usual local facilities. Buses to Colchester.

Founded in 1899, the West Mersea Yacht Club has become one of the prominent racing venues on the East Coast of England. Located on Mersea Island, it provides a pleasant sheltered anchorage with immediate access to the ideal racing area and extensive sailing waters of the River Blackwater, Thames Estuary and North Sea for all types of boat.
Joint Sailing Programme released for 2024. For the sailors We now move into 2024 and the plans are well underway preparing the racing programme. In view of the decline in numbers racing keelboats the total number of keelboat races has reduced, but we have replaced that racing with 3 mini Regattas in May, June and September.

The 49th annual Mersea Week, hosted jointly by West Mersea Yacht Club and Dabchicks Sailing Club, saw a bumper entry of over 130 boats, including a good number of visiting yachts, smacks and dinghies.
