FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Where i can more with yacht along the amalfi coast.
There are several options for mooring a luxury yacht on the Amalfi Coast. The equipped ports near the Amalfi Coast are Capri's Marina Grande, Amalfi's Marina Grande, and Sorrento's Marina Grande and Piano di Sorrento (on the Sorrento Peninsula). In Positano, on the other hand, there is no port, only a pier equipped for disembarking and embarking. There is also a buoy field in front of Fornillo beach. From these towns, you can quickly move to visit the inland villages like Ravello. All the Amalfi Coast is a Unesco World Heritage site.
With a superyacht you can also reach the Aeolian Island and the Sicily Coast or sail till Sardinia.
Between Capri and the Amalfi Coast, the only stretch of coast subject to restrictions is that of the Bay of Ieranto around Punta Campanella. Here you cannot enter with motor boats or anchor there. Instead, it is possible to stop along the coast, off Positano, next to the island li Galli, and around the island of Capri in front of the Blue Grotto or near the Faraglioni. These are just some of the mooring options available on the Amalfi Coast for luxury yachts.
All these places are the perfect yacht charter destinations.
What boats are available for rent on the Amalfi Coast?
There are a variety of boats available for rent on the Amalfi Coast. Motorboats, gozzi, inflatable boats and motor yachts are all options. The most famous shipyard in the area is the Sorrentine "Fratelli Aprea," which produces typical wooden gozzo boats in both basic and luxury versions. Pershing and Itama yachts are also available. You can also find old-fashion catamarans boats in wooden. However, sailboats and sailing yachts are more difficult to find as they are not very suitable for sailing in this area. Whichever type of boat you choose, you're sure to enjoy exploring the Coast from the water.
What staff will be onboard?
When chartering a luxury yacht for a stay on the Amalfi Coast, it is important to ensure that the vessel is staffed with a skilled and professional team. Renting a bareboat is not an option here for yachts. At a minimum, the yacht should have a skipper and a hostess on board; other figures such as chefs or masseuses can be arranged on request. The skipper will be responsible for navigation and safety, while the hostess will take care of passenger comfort and needs. Both roles are essential in ensuring charter guests have a relaxing and enjoyable experience.
You make the memories. We make the arrangements.

Top Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter Destinations
Located on the central Amalfi Coast , Amalfi Town is a must-visit on an Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter. The town borders the Gulf of Salerno and is characterized by steep cliffs along its rugged coastline. The town is known for its dramatic coastal setting, with colorful buildings climbing up the steep slopes and overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea .
Amalfi is renowned for its historical and cultural sites, notably the 9th-century Cathedral of St. Andrew . Beyond coastal charm, the region offers inland adventures with several popular trekking routes. The Path of Gods trail from Agerola to Positano is a highlight, along with hikes to Valle delle Ferriere’s waterfalls , and Monte Faito where you will get the most amazing panoramic views of the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrento Peninsula .
Positano is no doubt best explored by yacht charter, as it provides a unique perspective of the town and the stunning coastline. The town is built into the side of a cliff, and the houses are literally stacked one on top of the other . The main beach in Positano is Spiaggia Grande , a long and wide stretch of sand with stunning views of the town and the surrounding mountains. There are also other smaller beaches in Positano, such as Fornillo Beach , for those looking to stay away from crowds.
Positano is famous for its traditional Italian cuisine . Some of the most popular dishes include spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams), and scialatielli alle cozze (fresh pasta with mussels).
For in-land exploration, there is the Path of Gods , a hiking trail that offers incredible views of the coastline. Positano is also a great place to shop for souvenirs, ceramics, and local arts.
Ravello is another town on the Amalfi Coast that should not be missed on an Amalfi Coast yacht charter. Perched high above the Tyrrhenian Sea, Ravello offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline. The town is surrounded by lush gardens, terraced vineyards , and lemon groves , creating a serene and romantic atmosphere.
One of Ravello’s most iconic landmarks is Villa Rufolo , a historic villa known for its beautiful gardens. The villa dates back to the 13th century and has been a source of inspiration for many artists and writers. The annual Ravello Festival , featuring classical music concerts, takes place in the gardens of Villa Rufolo.
Also visit the medieval Ravello Cathedral , dedicated to Saint Pantaleon. Its interior houses valuable artworks and relics, making it a cultural and historical site.
Capri is an island located off the tip of the Sorrentine Peninsula. It is one of the top destinations for yacht charters in this area and should not be missed. The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) is one of Capri’s most iconic natural attractions. This sea cave is renowned for its mesmerizing blue color, created by the sunlight filtering through an underwater cavity. Another huge attraction is the iconic sea stacks, known as the Faraglioni rocks , rising dramatically from the sea. Boat tours often take you through the arch of the Faraglioni for a memorable experience.
Capri town itself offers high-end shopping , fine dining , and a lively atmosphere. Explore the ruins of Villa Jovis , an ancient Roman villa, perched on the eastern cliffs of Capri. Built by Emperor Tiberius, it offers stunning views of the Gulf of Naples .
When it comes to marinas you have two options in Capri. Marina Grande and Marina Piccola . Marina Grande is the larger of the two, bustling with activity, while Marina Piccola offers a quieter setting with crystal-clear waters.
Located on the northern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula , Sorento serves as an excellent base for yacht charters, providing easy access to some of the most sought-after destinations in the region. Positioned near the Amalfi Coast , Sorrento offers a gateway to the enchanting islands of Capri and Ischia , as well as the picturesque Amalfi Coast itself.
Sorrento has a rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore historical landmarks such as the Sorrento Cathedral , a medieval gem known for its intricate architecture and artistic significance. The Basilica di Sant’Antonino , dedicated to the town’s patron saint, provides further insight into Sorrento’s religious and historical roots.
Sorrento also provides well-equipped marinas to cater to various vessel sizes. The Marina Grande in Sorrento offers first-class services and a vibrant waterfront atmosphere. Additionally, the Marina di Cassano offers a tranquil and secure harbor, making it an appealing choice for those seeking a more serene setting.
Naples is the third-largest city in Italy and is often referred to as the Capital of the south.
This is where the world’s favorite snack food “pizza” was invented, made from plain flour and topped with whatever was easily available in the territory – some fresh tomatoes, goat’s cheese, and herbs. They still make it as they used to centuries ago , and it’s just as delectable! Some of the best places to try Neapolitan pizza in Amalfi charter yacht include Pizzeria Donna Stella in Praiano, Pizzeria San Giovanni in Positano, and Pizzeria Da Nino in Ravello .
Besides food, Naples is also known for its stunning architecture, including the Royal Palace of Naples and the Castel dell’Ovo . The city is also home to the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, which houses an impressive collection of ancient Roman artifacts .
Our Favorite Yacht Charter Attractions
Faraglioni rocks (capri).
The Faraglioni Rocks are a set of three towering rock formations located off the coast of Capri . These majestic limestones rise from the sparkling waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea and are an iconic symbol of enduring romance .
The Faraglioni Rocks are also home to a variety of marine life, including many colorful fish and even some elusive sea turtles best experienced while swimming . Snorkeling and diving are also popular activities for yacht charters.
To fully enjoy the Faraglioni rocks, it’s best to wake up there for the sunrise and enjoy the day swimming or visit after the crows have left to enjoy the stunning sunset.
Blue Grotto
The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) is located on the northern coast of Capri, near the town of Anacapri. The water in the cave is some of the clearest water in the world and the cave’s interior is illuminated by a bright blue light from the reflection of sunlight. The cave can only be accessed by boat – anchor your charter yacht and enter the cave with small rowboats.
Blue Grotto can be crowded during peak season , a quieter alternative is Grotta dello Smeraldo (Emerald Grotto) in Conca dei Marini. (Every Christmas, Grotta dello Smeraldo features an underwater nativity scene with life-sized figures of the Holy Family , submerged 4m in the cave.)
Pompeii is a must-visit attraction on any charter vacation on the Amalfi Coast. Once an ancient Roman city, Pompeii was frozen in time by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD . This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a true archaeological marvel. Excavations reveal remarkably preserved streets, houses, and public spaces, offering a glimpse into daily life nearly 2,000 years ago .
Key attractions include the Forum, amphitheater, and well-preserved residences like the House of the Vettii . Visiting Pompeii on a yacht charter adds a unique dimension, with the site conveniently accessible from the nearby Amalfi Coast, creating a seamless blend of maritime exploration and historical immersion.

When is the best time for a yacht charter on the amalfi coast.
The optimal season for a yacht charter along the Amalfi Coast spans from May to August . The seas are generally calm during these months, and there is almost constant sunshine and clear skies, with temperatures reaching the nineties . If you do not like the intense heat, it’s advisable to plan a yacht charter outside June, July, and August.
The summer months on the Amalfi Coast see minimal rainfall , ensuring uninterrupted on-deck enjoyment without concern for unexpected showers. Additionally, the Sorrentine Peninsula benefits from being quite sheltered from strong wind on both its northern and southern ends, promising a seamless cruising experience.
How much does an Amalfi yacht charter cost?
With a wide variety of charter yacht choices and itineraries, there’s an option for every budget . Depending on what you wish to have and do on your yacht charter the price varies quite a bit. For an accurate estimate of your yacht charter cost, you should contact our brokers . They will be able to help you draw up a plan with you based on your wishes and budget.
- Sailing yacht rentals: $15,000 to $175,000 per week.
- Catamaran Charters range from $15,000 to $100,000 per week.
- Motor yacht charters: $15,000 to $90,000 per week.
- Superyacht Charters: $90,000 to $380,000 per week.
How do I book an Amalfi Yacht Charter?
Ideally, you’d inquire about an Amalfi yacht charter 12 months in advance . WHY? The best yachts are often fully booked long in advance and it’s not unusual to see popular dates booked 2 summers ahead for a yacht charter vacation on the Amalfi Coast . Inquiring less than 6 months ahead often means that your first choice is unavailable for charter. Additionally, you might find that the yacht you wish to charter, can’t make it to the port where you wish to commence your yacht charter.

What to do on an Amalfi Coast Yacht Charter
The Amalfi Coast and Capri Islands boast a surprising string of Medieval towns perched on dramatic cliff sides and enchanting bays that can be approached by the sea on a luxury Amalfi Coast yacht charter . Discover the charming Italian streets of Positano , enjoy a drink under a bougainvillaea terrace in Sorrento , and swim in the secluded coves of Capri .
It is not surprising that jet-setters from across the globe flock to this exquisite coastline, where pastel-coloured fishing villages, sapphire waters, and delectable cuisine provides an idyllic setting for an Amalfi Coast yacht charter. Not forgetting the pristine landscape, flanked with lemon and orange groves and carpeted with Mediterranean shrubs.
On the Amalfi Coast, Positano has several beaches: from the elegant and intimate Laurito and Arienzo to the exclusive Fornillo that looks out across the sea to the Li Galli Archipelago, which is part of the Punta Campanella Marine Nature Reserve just in front of Capri. With its twisting narrow streets, ateliers specializing in hand-made goods, and the iconic stairs connecting the old town to the beach, Positano is a jewel nestled in this stretch of coastline that has no equal in the world. It is a must-see destination during crewed Amalfi Coast yacht rental.
Sorrento, Vietri , and Amalfi are equally impressive, with their elegant urban profiles and the unmatched charm of exclusive terrains popular with travellers who choose to hire a luxury yacht on the Amalfi Coast. Make sure you take the time to visit the town’s beautiful churches during your Amalfi Coast yacht rental , including the Basilica di Sant’Antonio, Sorrento’s oldest church and named after Sorrento’s patron saint. Inside you’ll find Roman artefacts, medieval paintings, and a mesmerising gilded ceiling.
An Amalfi Coast yacht charter is also the perfect occasion to glide among the grottos and Faraglioni of Anacapri and Capri and shop at their many luxury boutiques. That said, an Amalfi Coast yacht charter would be incomplete without visiting Capri’s arch of love, known as The Faraglioni di Mezzo, where three dramatic rock faces rise out of the sea, creating the famed trio of sea giants.
As a top italian Yacht Charter Company, Silver Star Yachting recommends visiting the garden of Villa Rufolo, known as the “Garden of the Soul”.

The Amalfi Coast offers warmer weather earlier in the season than the South of France and the Cinque Terre. Chartering a yacht in April is a good solution to avoid the crowds, yet connoisseurs would most likely prefer to charter post-season in October to enjoy the warmer waters. The high season is July and August.
Most of the Amalfi Coast yacht charters will start in Naples, before embarking on a great cruise around the nearby islands:
- Naples - The birthplace of pizza and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take a stroll along the lovely ‘Lungo. - Ischia - The biggest island in the Bay of Naples and home to the famed hot springs. - Capri - Only reachable via boat, this is arguably the most desirable island on the coast due to its natural beauty. Explore the Grotta Bianca, Natural - Arch, Faraglioni rocks and the bay of Marina Piccola before retiring to watch the sunset. - Positano - A hidden gem nestled in the coastline and formed of pretty villages and great spots for watersports.

I have been bringing my friends and clients on this wonderful experience for years. Whenever we are together, without fail, the topic of Matteo and the fabulous day of boating is always re-lived and spoken about with such fondness, and such enthusiasm. It is an experience beyond memorable. It is something NOT to be missed when on the coast. Doumina
This was hands down my favorite activity we did while in Southern Italy. The yacht was AMAZING! The crew was so helpful and took the time to point out parts of the Amalfi Coast and were knowledgeable about the area. Matteo was so easy to communicate/book with!!! I highly recommends this company to anyone looking for a fun, personalized cruise around the Amalfi Coast! You will NOT regret it!!! Amanda
All I have to say is “WOW”!!! The yacht we rented was amazing, the boat crew is awesome and the Amalfi Coast sunset cruise was breathtaking! I highly recommends this company to anyone looking for a fun personalized cruise around the Amalfi Coast! Chris Savage

Here are 7 Reasons To Add The Amalfi Coast To Your Next Yacht Charter Itinerary
Incredible Sunsets
Contrary to popular belief, the sun on the Amalfi Coast drops behind the mountains rather than over the sea, however it remains one of the best places in the world to watch the sunset and enjoy the romantic atmosphere of the twinkling lights on the pastel-coloured buildings and changing hues of the aquamarine sea.
When ashore, if you dream of a postcard snapshot of the sunset in Positano we think the best viewpoints are found at Franco’s Bar at La Sirenuse, the stairway on Via Cristoforo Colombo near Hotel Marincanto, or follow the 1700-odd steps from Positano to the small village of Nocelle set 450 metres above sea level with a birds-eye view of the coastline all the way to Capri. Nocelle is well known for the Sentieri degli Dei (Path of the Gods) hiking trail, so its best saved for energetic hikers!
Incredible Panoramas
Gavitella Beach, is the only beach on the Amalfi Coast that gets the sun all day until it sets. Located on the Vettica side of Praiano, Gavitella is considered one of the magical locations to watch the sunset along the Amalfi Coast with an incredible panorama extending from Positano to the three islets of Li Galli to Punta Campanella and the island of Capri.
Other fabulous spots to catch the last rays of the sun on the Amalfi Coast include the Torre dello Ziro watchtower overlooking Amalfi and Atrani, the quirky Il Pirata restaurant at Marina di Praia and the Sunset Terrace at the historic Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa .
Gorgeous Views
From the sea, exploring the Amalfi Coast is a true journey in beauty with pretty views of vertically-stacked villages, citrus trees and ancient defensive watchtowers. The SS 163 Amalfitana is the coastal road from Sorrento to Salerno – the road of a thousand bends – with Vespas zipping past rental cars heading to the next Amalfi hotspot. The road is a thrilling drive and plummets down towards the sea by way of a series of hair-raising turns; even on land you’ll find spectacular vistas of crystalline sea and verdant mountains.
Aside from the incredible views from your charter yacht, hotels and restaurants possess the best panoramic views on the Amalfi Coast – the Calajanara Restaurant in Conca dei Marini has a wonderful sea view terrace open in summer months, or relax with a drink at Ristorante Franchino at the Hotel Onda Verde in Praiano.
Ravello, known as the ‘city of music’ is located inland high above Amalfi and worth visiting for unbeatable views of sky and sea – stop for a cool aperitivo on the terrace of the Palazzo Avino or admire the sea views amidst the wisteria-trailing formal gardens and statues at Villa Cimbrone. In summer time, a stage is set up at Villa Rufolo where Amalfi Coast yacht charter guests can soak up the panoramas listening to classical concerts and chamber music.
Agriturismo Villa Maria is a must-visit shore excursion when on yacht charter to the Amalfi Coast. Hospitable and knowledgeable, the owners make their own antipasti from scratch with wild fennel salami, olive oil and cheese. Take a bottle of their delectable fruit liqueur back on board after enjoying the views from the lemon groves above Minori.
Torre Normanna at Maiori is one of the most atmospheric places to soak up the views on the Amalfi Coast – a 13th century Norman tower perched on its own rocky promontory, it has a variety of romantic dining spaces with uninterrupted vistas of the coast and town.
Ristorante Il Refettorio at Monastero Santa Rosa is an exceptional dining experience with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Salerno and exquisite dishes that fuse Mediterranean flavours with sun-ripened ingredients. To end your meal, try the seashell-shaped sfogliatelle pastry which was invented by the nuns and still found in pasticcerias on the Amalfi Coast and beyond. This humble pastry even has an annual festival called the Sfogliatella Santa Rosa in August dedicated to it!
For a casual meal, when strolling quayside do what the locals do and buy some fritti misto di mare from a street stall that you eat out of a wrapped paper cone with a stick and pair it with a chilled tumbler of white wine garnished in peach slices.
Tantalising Food
Enjoying delicious food is a highlight of all yacht charters in Italy and having your own private yacht chef to create wonderful dishes from local ingredients is a sublime culinary experience.
For those occasions when you prefer to dine ashore, the Amalfi Coast is no exception to heavenly gastronomy when visiting Italy. Local dishes follow the changing of the seasons and are characteristic of Campanian life – fresh seafood and fish dishes, home-made pasta with regional tomatoes and dishes typical of the Lattari Mountains that form the backbone of the Amalfi Coast.
Look for menus featuring parapandalo shrimps, scialatielli pasta with clams or fresh octopus, paccheri stuffed with vegetables or spaghetti drowsed with Colatura di Alici, an amber liquid made from macerated anchovies from Cetara.
You’ll also likely see vibrant bunches of Pomodorino del Piennolo grape tomatoes hanging at markets; the tomatoes have protected status for strict cultivation in the areas around Mount Vesuvius, but their distinctive flavour is widely revered throughout Campania and best tasted in a hearty soup ( zuppa ), fettuccine with fresh basil or a crisp slice of Pizza Napoletana.
In Ravello, make sure you venture to the former family manor of the Roman noble, the Marquis de Cinque, where the Palumbo family run the four-star Villa Maria . The restaurant there uses organic ingredients from their herb and vegetable gardens – try their speciality of local fish cooked on lemon leaves and coated in garlic, lemon zest and crisp breadcrumbs.
The zingy lemon has celebrity status on the Amalfi Coast, look for the giant sfusato lemons – best sampled as a chilled digestif of limoncello or a refreshing lemon granita on a hot day.
Stunning Beaches
The diverse beaches along the Amalfi Coast vary from busy municipal beaches such as Marina Grande at Amalfi with sun loungers and restaurants to secluded stretches of sand with no facilities or crowds and ideal for swimming, snorkeling, diving or water sports.
Two best tips that Bespoke Yacht Charter can share about beaches on the Amalfi Coast is that many beaches only get the sun in the early to middle part of the day therefore you should time your visit accordingly depending on which beach you choose, and many beaches can only be accessed by boat making the coastline an ideal getaway for a luxury yacht charter.
At Marina di Praia in Praiano, you’ll find a pebble beach bedecked with local fishing boats and a few superb restaurants. Don’t miss wandering along the coastal pathway around the cliff beneath the Saracen watch tower (the Torre a Mare) or returning at night for a cocktail at the Africana nightclub.
Le Praie can only be accessed from the sea and is noted as the most beautiful beach in Praiano with a magnificent setting of rock cliffs crested with maritime pine trees. Exercise caution when standing under the cliffs as there is a danger of falling rocks, but it’s an ideal stop when looking for a lovely place to relax.
Spiaggia La Vite at Conca dei Marini is a pleasant beach to swim with a nice outlook of an ancient watchtower. Nearby you’ll find the Grotta dello Smeraldo, a karst sea cave, discovered in 1932 by a local fisherman and famous for the emerald colour of its interior and an underwater nativity scene.
The fishing town of Cetara is less touristic compared to the busy coastal resorts of Amalfi and Positano – head there for a more tranquil beach escape; Collata beach is reached only by sea.
For quiet beach days, cruise to Cavallo Morto near Maiori, Santa Croce west of Amalfi or the Bay of Ieranto with a tiny beach set in a cove opposite Capri’s Faraglioni rocks.
For something a bit different, head to the fjord of Furore. Stacked fishing townhouses ‘ monazzeni ‘ sit nestled amongst the rock face; you should note that due to the orientation of the beach it doesn’t get full sun until 3pm in the afternoon. The picturesque fjord hosts an annual event where on a Sunday in July, the 30-metre high bridge which spans the cliffs becomes the stage for the MarMeeting , world high diving championship. Afterwards, drop in for a wine tasting at the Cantine Marisa Cuomo above Furore, a small winery set on terraced land overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Spectacular Accommodation Ashore
A luxury yacht charter on the Amalfi Coast offers an unbeatable getaway for privacy and solitude at sea and many charter clients link their time at sea with luxury stays on land at boutique lodgings.
The Amalfi Coast has premium accommodation that alludes to honeymoons, weddings and special occasions in historical buildings and beautiful settings.
Combine your Amalfi Coast yacht charter with a stay at the five-star Grand Hotel Il Saraceno in Amalfi decorated in a Sultanate style with mosaics and antique furniture, enjoy the sumptuous surroundings of the Palazzo Avino or Belmond Hotel Caruso in Ravello, or luxuriate at the central location of Hotel Palazzo Murat in Positano with a charming botanic garden and period furnishings.
The Hotel Santa Caterina, Hotel Luna Convento, Villa Scarpariello Relais and Monastero Santa Rosa are four historical hotels with comfortable Suites and swimming pools with unforgettable coastal views.
Il San Pietro di Positano, a Relais & Châteaux property, is one of the finest five-star hotels in Italy – cut into the cliffside, the hotel’s rooms have private balconies overlooking the sea and are decorated with vibrant tiles, quirky ceramics and plush soft furnishings. You’ll find it hard to tear yourself away back to your yacht once you settle on the ocean view benches for a Aperol spritz or dine in their Michelin-starred restaurant.
During your time ashore, make sure to spend some time wandering the stairways, alleys and streets of the Amalfi Coast towns where boutiques sell handmade leather sandals, linen resort wear, lace, embroidery or bright ceramics in cobalt blue, tomato red or zesty yellow.
Italian Architecture
Italian architecture spans the millenia and the Amalfi Coast has some unique and photogenic architecture originating from Greek, Roman, Norman, Saracen and Arabian influence.
Exploring the region by private yacht highlights the natural beauty of the Amalfi Coast, but you’ll be surprised at the cultural beauty too from medieval churches to town piazzas and converted monasteries.
Ravello, a town that has attracted musicians, filmmakers, writers and painters, is home to classic and contemporary architecture. Stunningly gorgeous, don’t miss Villa Rufolo’s gardens and cloisters and the classical gardens and ‘Terrace of Infinity’ belvedere dotted with marble busts at the Villa Cimbrone. Modern architecture is seen at Oscar Niemeyer’s Auditorium which offers a dedicated venue for concerts and temporary artists.
Praiano has beautiful architectural sights such as the majolica tiled votive shrines seen throughout the town and magnificent churches including the Church of San Luca Evangelista, famous for its historic majolica floor and artworks, the Church of San Gennaro and the Church of Santa Maria a Castro with restored Dominican frescoes.
Minori has architectural treasures of great value such as the Basilica of Santa Trofimena, the bell tower of Annunziata in Arab-Norman style and a first century AD Roman villa.
Other architectural places of interest on the Amalfi Coast are the Duomo in Amalfi, the Solimene ceramic factory in Vietri sul Mare, Hotel Casa Angelina, Zaha Hadid Architect’s modern ferry terminal in Salerno and the town of Atrani with many examples of historic architecture.
Fascinating History
From the art museums of Naples to the impressive ruins at nearby Pompeii and Herculaneum, an Amalfi Coast yacht charter will delve into the passage of time over centuries.
Settled by humans since the early Middle Ages, this stretch of Campanian coastline is UNESCO-listed and an exceptional region of natural and cultural importance.
Religious history influences local customs and festivals today. The convent of Santa Maria a Castro high above Praiano hosts ‘ Luminaria di San Domenico’ which is one of the Amalfi Coast’s most spectacular festivals. Each year in summer during the festival, the Piazza San Gennaro is illuminated nightly by thousands of candles and performances from fire artists. On July 22, the town of Atrani celebrates the Feast of Santa Maria Maddalena where a procession winds through the town followed by fireworks over the sea.
After declaring itself independent of Naples, Amalfi was the first of the Four Maritime Republics of Italy and became the main trading port of southern Italy and a dominant naval power throughout the Mediterranean. Amalfi’s sea trading significance is evident in Arab-Sicilian architecture, as well as the Arsenal of the Maritime Republic (an important maritime museum) and yearly festivals on both June 27 and November 30, which celebrate Sant’Andrea, the town’s patron saint and protector of fishermen.
Beyond The Amalfi Coast
If the gorgeous vistas of the Amalfi Coast leave you with a sense of wanderlust, we have other great Southern Italian yacht charter destinations that will awaken your lust for Italian landscapes and lifestyle.
Naples, the largest regional city in Campania is bracing and gritty but worth a visit for the collections at the Naples National Archaeological Museum and the Museo di Capodimonte. If visiting Naples, ensure you take a shore excursion to nearby Ercolano or Caserta. At Ercolano, you can visit Mount Vesuvius, view the Herculaneum ruins or travel to nearby Pompeii for its famous excavations. At Caserta, you will find the off-the-beaten path Royal Palace of Caserta, known as the ‘Versailles of Naples’ it was built for the Bourbon King of Naples and one of the largest palaces built in the 18th century in Europe.
Best enjoyed out of peak season, cruise to the islands of Capri, Ischia or Procida for beach resorts, thermal springs, hiking and sunbathing. On the other side of the Sorrentine peninsula from the Amalfi Coast towns, charming Sorrento is a popular gateway town to the Amalfi Coast and within easy reach to one of Bespoke Yacht Charter’s recommended restaurants, Don Alfonso 1890.
Heading south-east from the Amalfi resorts, anchor in the Gulf of Salerno and head ashore to explore the ruins at the UNESCO-protected temples at Paestum. The Doric order temples dedicated to Hera and Athena are among the best preserved Greek ruins left on mainland Italy and one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world.
