BB Riverboat cruise accepting passengers

The Belle of Cincinnati will be stopping at Limestone Landing in Maysville as a part of the BB Riverboat summer river cities tour.

The boat will be docked in Maysville on Aug. 1 for a two-hour cruise from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Boarding will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Guests aboard the boat will have a choice of a dinner or sightseeing cruise.

On Aug. 2, the boat will offer a lunch tour from noon to 2 p.m. with boarding at 11 a.m. and a sightseeing cruise from 3:30-5:30 p.m. with boarding at 3 p.m.

“They’ll be conducting cruises right out of our landing here,” Holleran said.

The cost to board the boat for the cruise is $40 for adults and $24 for children for lunch/brunch; $23 for adults and $17 for children for sightseeing cruises; and $52 for adults and $37 for children for dinner cruises.

Holleran said she is happy to see the riverboat coming to Maysville.

“We’re always appreciative to have the boats coming in,” she said. “We encourage everyone to come down and view the river area and all Maysville has to offer. We will always welcome the riverboats and anyone else who wants to visit.”

Maysville is only one stop on the summer cruise. Other cities include Portsmouth, Ohio, Huntington, W. Va., Gallipolis, Ohio and Ashland.

The BB Riverboat is named for Ben Bernstein and Betty Blake, who were instrumental in starting the company, according to bbriverboats.com. The company began in 1979 and cruises began at the Mike Fink Restaurant in Cincinnati. The first cruise took place on March 15, 1980 on the M/V Betty Blake. The boat was a 400 passenger stern wheeler. The current site for the riverboat landing is in Newport.

In addition to the BB Riverboat cruise along the Ohio River, the Queen of the Mississippi will dock in Maysville on July 19 from 1-5 p.m. and the American Queen will be returning to Augusta on July 20 from noon to 5 p.m. for viewing.

Maysville KY is an Ohio River cruise port and town in Kentucky USA (Mason County) with a population of around 9,000. The town is located approx 105 km (66 mi) northeast of Lexington (Kentucky's 2nd-largest city). Two river bridges connect Maysville with Aberdeen Ohio.

Maysville developed as a major riverport exporting mainly American whiskey (bourbon), hemp, and tobacco. Dangerous storms move through IN, KY ravaging homes; tornado confirmed

Violent storms ripped through the WLKY region on Thursday afternoon, including a tornado that wreaked havoc on several southern Indiana and Kentucky communities.

It was a quick, fast and intense storm that was in the region for about an hour.

The tornado touched down in the areas of Madison, IN, Milton, KY and Carrollton, KY.

EF-1 tornado damage has been confirmed in Milton, while early surveys show EF-2 damage just east of Milton in Trimble County.

The storm was out of the WLKY area by 3 p.m. and continued on to the northeast.

A lot of damage has been reported, especially in Milton. Roofs were ripped off buildings, there are tons of trees downs, and 2,000+ lost power.

So far, no injuries nor fatalities have been reported.

• 2:07 p.m. : Tornado confirmed, witnessed in Madison, Ind. Storm moving east.
• Tornado warning issued in Jefferson County, IN and Trimble, Carroll counties in KY until 2:30 p.m. Those in the area should get to shelter.
• Storm is moving east at 40-50 mph hour. Golf ball-sized hail reported in some parts.

Unseasonably warm temperatures, increasing humidity and an approaching frontal system will lead to increasing thunderstorm chances for Thursday.

After a violent storm moved through some northern communities in the afternoon, the second round moves in late tonight and the entire WLKY region will have storm chances.

The main threat from any severe storms will be damaging wind gusts and hail. However, an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

By sunrise Friday morning, the threat for storms will be over. Drier air will return to the WLKY region Friday night through the weekend.
