All-New Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht Review (2023 Edition)

A direct development of the 74 Sports Yacht, the 75 makes some important changes to the styling and finish, but perhaps more importantly leaves certain key design features in place.

All-New Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht Review (2023 Edition) image 1

Like its predecessor, the 75 comes as a single-deck Predator or the sportsbridge Sports Yacht model we have here. Most of the tweaks and new features will be found on both models, from a redesigned transom to the impressive technical upgrade of an RCD category A rating, the highest rating for a leisure yacht in the EU. With 40 knots on tap that is quite a statement from this pedigree British builder. We took a look over hull #1 at the 2023 Düsseldorf Boat Show.

Design & Build

Sunseeker 75 Sports Yacht design

Fans of the old (but not that old) 74 Sport Yacht or Predator will find lots to like here, mainly because it’s pretty much the same boat. The hull, engineering platform, layout and overall design are the same.

That means we know it will hit close to 40 knots with twin 1,900hp MAN V12 engines, ride like a racer if you feel in the mood or push along confidently all day at 25 knots. The performance is enhanced by Interceptor tabs, thrusters and a stabiliser. The standard issue hydraulics for the high-low platform being put to good effect here.

Three Over Four

We have a pretty good idea that buyers will favour the three-cabin layout over the optional fourth bunked cabin, with its super-sociable lower diner arrangement - guaranteed to be everyone’s favourite place to congregate.

Another stand-out feature, the excellent and vast aft deck lounge still comes with its theatrical drop-down cockpit door system, opening up the salon to the aft deck to create one long sweep of inside-outside living space.

Tweaks & Changes

So what has changed? Staying inside, the XPS version of the 74, with its upgraded sports interior, now forms the basis for the new 75's finish. Put simply, what was once a cool carbon-detailed cost option now comes as standard on the 75.

We have to pay homage to Sunseeker’s decision to make the Sport Yacht and Predator RCD Cat A, something that required a beefed-up engineering approach and underlines the inherent quality of the hull and build. To reach Cat A the main deck construction has been strengthened, stability and down-flooding improved and overall compliance upgraded. Sunseeker tells us that all of this was delivered without losing any performance identity for the yachts.

The new hull colours introduced, including a range of greys, black and navy blue, are pigmented gel-coat and rated to withstand high temperatures. This attention to detail and the practicalities of global yachting were noted on the 100 Yacht and the same LSA (Low Solar Absorbtion) coating is used on the sportsbridge moulding, a black finish that is laid over a white gel to further reduce heat transfer. What it all means for you is a cooler yacht and one whose looks won't fade.

There have been some tweaks to the windows around the helm, with even deeper glass sections to each side for guests and the skipper to look through. The window design below decks has also been adjusted slightly, with new stainless steel trims added.  A more obvious change is found aft. The same dual tender garage remains, with room for a Williams 395 and PWC, but the entire transom has been redesigned so the garage door appears central, with equal steps to each side in place of the old offset look.

Interior Accommodation

Sunseeker 75 Sports Yacht salon

The new finish only adds to the feeling of space across the deck salon. Light cabinetry and modern fabrics are surrounded by deep windows, the amount of glass around the salon impresses in a boat show hall, it will wow on the water.

The sunroof above the helm hasn’t been increased in size but with the cockpit doors dropped away, the interior is allowed to breathe in the seascape beyond, with the starboard lounge merging with its cockpit counterpart.

The port side cabinetry is perfect for stowing cruising gear but it can be switched for a facing sofa. Depending on how long you intend to stay on board, the extra storage space feels a priority and the 75 hardly lacks seating.

Social Scene

The Sport Yacht and Predator both have sociable helm stations, with elevated guest seating. But these work equally well as part of the salon, creating the chance for people to spread out but very much remain connected.

Social life is the key to the boat’s below decks success. The forward VIP, twin cabin and full-beam stateroom are all impressive and ensuite. But it is the galley diner that stands out. A lower galley might not be for everyone. If you like to cook in anger, having the galley and its accompanying steam, smells and smoke up and aft makes more sense. But if cooking onboard is more about breakfast, light lunches and nightcaps this layout can’t be beaten.

The galley itself features excellent cold storage and plenty of cupboard space. The diner lies forward, so guests can talk, eat, raid the refrigerator, place their orders (this is, technically a crewed yacht) and generally enjoy a good time in privacy. And besides, if you do want to cook in anger, there is a grill on the aft deck and sportsbridge.

Carbon Special

The owner’s stateroom is a great place to experience the new interior finish. There are plenty of options on the final specification, with various cabinetries and fabrics as well as en-suite options, but the sports-luxe attitude will remain with slick lighting and carbon-fibre inlays.

The crew quarters lie aft, accessed through a transom door. In truth, the 75 Sport Yacht doesn’t feel like a crewed yacht, because it’s so easy to get around and so much fun to drive. But at 23m you may want a hand and two crew can sleep in the quarters, along with a toilet compartment and useful utility area.

Sunseeker 75 Sports Yacht galley

Helm Station

Sunseeker 75 Sports Yacht helm

The starboard-side lower helm design hasn’t changed massively from the 74, nor should it. You still have two fully adjustable seats and that very useful side deck door. The main console design has room for two 16in MFD screens with a smart, illuminated panel of switches running across a lower console.

There is one change to the helm, and it’s a big one. The old three-piece windscreen is now two massive sections of glass, reducing the amount of mullion to get in the way. With the new, deeper, side screen design, visibility is going to be very good.

Up & Over

The upper helm sits to port, a useful thing for alongside mooring that means you can helm from the nearest point. That said you will probably choose to moor from up top most of the time, given the visibility and ease of looking down both sides of the boat. The upper helm design is sporty in a more minimal way, with its clinical white console and skeletal carbon-framed seats.

As a true performance yacht, there is a very good chance guests will want to enjoy the ride up with the skipper, so you have two excellent guest seating areas for the lower and upper helm.

Deck lifestyle

Sunseeker 75 Sports Yacht decks

If it weren’t for the lure of the private lower deck diner, there would be a strong argument for never leaving the aft deck lounge. A full outdoor living area, the deck includes a massive sweep of seating to starboard, sat protectively within the sportsbridge overhang and muscular side pillars.

The old basic seat infill that allowed access to the starboard deck has now been replaced by a slick sliding base. The optional carbon fibre dining table is now standard and a new wet bar under the sportsbridge steps can take a larger refrigerator. Beyond the lounge, the sun pad is now slightly extended, as part of the transom redesign.

Sportsbridge Space

The sportsbridge itself has a newly configured seating layout with a big dining area aft and a forward lounge, both of the smart, solid teak tables converting down into what would be around an acre of sun pad.

Before we leave the sportsbridge, there is a small but important design change to the radar mast. This was a fairly functional-looking aluminium design but is now a much smarter and more streamlined moulded section, one that will roll out across other models.

Back down on the main deck, those new transom steps make access to and from the hydraulic bathing platform so easy and there is now a moulded staircase to allow bathers the easiest of routes in and out of the water.

Sunseeker Superhawk sportsbridge

Value For Money

Sunseeker isn’t generally thought of as a ‘best value’ option. Matters such as performance, style and pedigree are the main associations. But has the British builder pulled off a trick with this 75? The final specification has a massive say on the true, on-the-water, price at this size but the base price of around €3 millin ex VAT (correct at time of writing) looks very competitive and gives buyers the freedom to really specify their yacht as they want.

A stabiliser is now a given, even on a 40-knot boat, and will add a dent to the budget but the hydraulic package is already in place.

The main question is usually whether to spec the uprated engines, moving from the base 1,550hp MANs to the 1,900hp option. But this is a Sunseeker, so of course you do.

Sunseeker 75 Sports Yacht crew

The 75 Sport Yacht and soon-to-be-released Predator have smoothed, tuned and tweaked the 74, keeping all the good stuff and adding the kind of details that you might not necessarily notice at first but will appreciate endlessly. Two major advantages are the RCD boost and XPS trim which both come as standard. Elsewhere, the new transom works well stylistically and the aft deck seating infill will no longer annoy you. But it is the overall package, for a price just as aggressive as the 75 Sport Yacht’s design, that will make this model a continued success.

Reasons to Buy

  • Inside-outside social design
  • RCD Cat A and 40-knot performance
  • Competitive price
  • New design for 2023

Things to Consider

  • No upper galley option
  • Small engine bay hatch

The sportsbridge concept makes a lot of sense above 20m, often delivering an upper deck that, whilst not to flybridge levels on space, is big and impressive enough to be enjoyed.

One yacht that matches the Sunseeker on sportsbridge space and style is the beautifully styled Princess S72 , with a near-identical layout up top. The S72 can hit 36 knots with the smaller 1,650hp MAN engines but weighs in at a heftier 55 tonnes, suggesting some seriously good hull design. Inside, the four-cabin design has the galley aft with a separate dining area.

Azimut has two S models to consider, the S7 is a slightly smaller, 22m, boat. Powered by triple IPS pods the S7 will hit around 35 knots and has a four-cabin interior with its galley up and, unusually, forward up by the helm.

The S8 is slightly larger at 25m but actually has a smaller sportsbridge. You feel the space inside, however, with a long spread of lounge and dining on the main deck and four cabins and the galley below.

Riva’s 37-knot Perseo Super is a boat we know well and one you need to look at, even if its mix of sports style and GT luxury isn’t quite for you. Beautifully built and designed on the outside, the three-cabin interior is part yacht, part supercar.

Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht Layout

 layout

At this size of yacht, the sportsbridge feels very much at flybridge levels on luxury and specification, if not quite on space. That said, the 75's upper deck is one of the biggest in this sector.

 layout

A great balance between salon and aft deck space creates two lounges and that inside-outside flow we want. Having the galley down helps salon space and there is no option to move it up, as most rivals do.

 layout

The lower galley and dinette is an undoubted feature but it does make the 75 a three-cabin boat.

Last week, I had the chance to do a sea trial on the new Predator flagship. The other models in the series include 55- and 65-foot models. The 75, which replaces the 74 XPS, shares the same hull as the Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht, but without its flybridge. The long foredeck and swept-back hardtop of the new Predator makes it look fast, even at the dock in Fort Lauderdale.

Sunseeker Predator 75

The 75’s theoretical top end of 40 knots comes courtesy of the upgraded 1,900 hp MAN V12 turbo diesels. A whopping 3,800 horses. Smaller, standard 1,550 hp versions are available. But as Loran Stavrou of OneWater Yacht Group, the U.S. distributor, puts it during the test: “It’s a Predator. Why would you want smaller engines?”

The Predator concept has been a staple in the British yacht builder’s line since 1996, when the first 80 was launched. The idea was to create a yacht that was fast and beautiful, but with a sizable interior. The lack of a flybridge means that you’re steering inside from the helm on the main deck, rather than up top in the open air.

Sunseeker 75 Predator

It was a feisty day out in the Atlantic as we exited Fort Lauderdale via the cruise ship channel, with a strong northerly throwing up four- to five-foot waves. We closed the sunroof to fend off the inevitable spray, pushed forward the throttles, and to the accompaniment of a lovely, throaty turbo whistle, the 52-ton Predator climbed up on plane.

With the wind behind us, we got close to the Sunseeker’s claimed 40-knot top speed, but the water was too rough to see what the boat could really do at speed in flat conditions. That day was more about running through, avoiding and occasionally slamming into the ocean swells. Throttling back to the yacht’s 30-knot sweet spot put the Predator right in its element, turning the slamfest into a fun ride.

We spent close to an hour offshore. Hard-over turns on the 75’s deep-V hull delivered the kind of super-tight response one might expect from a 30-foot sport boat. The turns became even more dramatic when the Predator’s Side-Power Vector fin stabilizers temporarily acted up, creating even sharper leans as we did tight circles.

The Sunseeker 75

After playing in the surf, we returned to the dock, noting how well the 75 maneuvers in tight quarters with the bow thruster.

During a walkthrough, the Predator’s softer side became apparent, especially the way the salon flowed into the rear cockpit, courtesy of big, power-sliding glass doors that drop out of sight. The ability to open the boat to the elements, or close down instantly with the push of a button, is key to understanding the Predator ethos.

Sunseeker Predator 75 sport yacht

Back inside the boat, the galley-down arrangement may not be too thrilling to those who would rather cook on the main deck with everyone else. But the glass sunroof, windshield, and lower-deck side windows delivered plenty of natural light. The galley was equipped with Miele appliances, including a full-sized fridge, freezer, and 33-bottle wine cooler.

Sunseeker Predator 75 sports yacht

The Predator shares the same three-bedroom layout as its 75 Sport Yacht sibling. The full-beam master amidships, large VIP cabin in the bow, and a guest cabin with twins were all ensuite, boasting seven feet of headroom. There was also a stateroom for two crew, though a surprising number of 75s are owner-operated. Sunseeker also used quality materials throughout, with high-end finishes like carbon fiber, Calacatta quartz, bleached oak and stainless steel. Fit and finish was universally strong.

Pricing for this new Predator 75 starts at around $4.6 million, with our heavily optioned test boat stickering for $5.72 million. After our lively sea trial, I also realized that, as part of its DNA, each Predator comes with a license to thrill.

Sunseeker’s 75 Sport Yacht Blends Opulent Luxury with Sporty Performance

A wolf in wolf’s clothing..

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

Plenty of luxury yachts come wrapped in a sporty exterior styling suggesting a muscular foundation capable of performance to match their bold look. But not all deliver on that promise. After all, it’s no easy task getting 40 or 50 tons of boat to soar like a racer and slalom like an Olympic champ.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

Looking at the 75 Sport Yacht from the water, the first word that leaps to mind is athleticism. One frequently hears the terms “sleek” and “elegant” used to describe sport yachts, but the Sunseeker 75 looks more like a cat crouched low and ready to pounce. A big part of that is its iconic sports bridge, steeply raked vertical surfaces, and distinctive glazing treatments, but there’s more at play here.

Boarding at the sprawling, hydraulically actuated swim platform that yields direct water access, four steps to either side lead up and forward into the cockpit. Between them, the first step extends the full width of the stern to provide a handy spot for donning swim fins or towelling off after a dip. The starboard side opens to reveal a substantial tender garage, large enough to conceal a Williams 395 and fitted with an integrated tender recovery roller system for effortless launch and recovery. Look more closely, and you’ll spot the neatly integrated deck lighting that adds a warm ambiance and striking appearance.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The design of the 75 Sport Yacht neatly blends outdoor and indoor spaces into a single, continuous entertaining area thanks in part to its innovative cockpit door design. The door slides to starboard then lowers beneath the cockpit decking to disappear when not needed. A wide promenade leads forward to the foredeck, with its expansive U-shaped, forward-facing seating area and a second sun pad.

The port side of the cockpit provides access to the 75 Sport Yacht’s fantastic sports bridge. On the upper deck, there is a variety of appealing seating options, a wet bar with water, a refrigerator, and an available barbecue grill and ice maker. Four Fusion Audio speakers provide concert hall sound to create exactly the right atmosphere whether underway or on the hook.

Inside, the main deck salon features a fold-out table to starboard, a large HDTV to port, and flexible seating throughout. Being a Sunseeker, the fittings, upholstery, and overall fit and finish of the yacht are, as always, in a class of their own. Expansive glazing and a panoramic, sliding sunroof overhead flood the space with both natural sunlight and fresh air.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The standard belowdecks arrangement is a three-stateroom arrangement with a full-beam owner’s suite, a huge VIP stateroom in the bow, and a roomy twin stateroom amidships. Owners can also choose a four-stateroom layout, if desired.

The galley space features high-end Miele appliances, including a fridge-freezer, plus dedicated cabinetry for crockery, cutlery, and glassware and an available 20-bottle wine cooler. The lower deck also includes a roomy saloon for early morning or after-hours relaxation in greater privacy.

Sunseeker’s 75 Sport Yacht shows form in Med

  • July 27, 2023

New for 2023, the “ultimate social boat” is captured on the run and at anchor ahead of the model’s appearance at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Sunseeker, 75 Sport Yacht, Med, Mediterranean, MAN V12-1900, Boot Dusseldorf, Cannes Yachting Festival

Sunseeker has revealed new imagery of its new 75 Sport Yacht in the Mediterranean, where the yacht showed off the power and performance of a dynamic model able to reach 40 knots with the upgraded option of twin MAN V12-1900 engines. The yacht has an overall length of 75ft 8in (23.06m), a beam of 17ft 8in (5.38m) and a draft of 6ft 2in (1.87m).

An extensive upgrade of the 74 Sport Yacht, which is still available in its XPS version, the 75 Sport Yacht has a spectacular sports bridge, a long indoor-outdoor social area on the main deck, an aft starboard garage for a Williams SportJet 395, and a lower deck with three en-suite guest cabins, lower dinette or extra cabin, and two crew berths.

Sunseeker, 75 Sport Yacht, Med, Mediterranean, MAN V12-1900, Boot Dusseldorf, Cannes Yachting Festival

The big sister of the 65 Sport Yacht had a low-key world premiere at the Boot Dusseldorf indoor show in Germany in January and is part of Sunseeker’s line-up at the Cannes Yachting Festival from September 12-17.

Sean Robertson, Sunseeker International’s Sales and Marketing Director, said: “We are thrilled to see the 75 Sport Yacht at home in its natural environment. This beautiful motor yacht is destined for hosting large groups of friends and family, for an unforgettable boating experience. From the well-equipped sports bridge with two seating arrangements to the generous interior and bright lower galley and saloon, the 75 Sport Yacht is a beautiful yacht within the Sunseeker range.”

The stern features a hydraulic lifting platform for direct water access while the tender garage houses a Williams SportJet 395 fitted with an integrated tender recovery roller system for easy launch and recovery. Beautiful integrated deck lighting ensures visibility at night while offering a warm ambience and striking appearance.

The aft cockpit has a J-shaped seating area, a rise-and-fall folding table finished in carbon-fibre, an aft sunpad with a large Seabob stowage locker underneath, as well as the option of a control station. The foredeck offers a C-shaped sofa and island sunpad along with speakers, drinks holders and storage.

The extensive sports bridge provides a vast entertainment space with two C-shaped seating and lounging areas, twin-seat helm station, four waterproof Fusion Marine speakers, and a wet bar with a water tap, refrigeration, optional barbecue grill and ice maker.

T o access the interior, the cockpit door slides to starboard and descends with the window to unite the cockpit with the saloon and create an extensive indoor-outdoor environment. The saloon features bold interior styling and contemporary furniture crafted from wood, carbon-fibre and stainless steel, all illuminated with dimmable mood lighting.

The configuration of the interior and the material selections are customisable. The standard arrangement includes a C-shaped sofa and a fold-out table to starboard, with a large television unit to port. As well as expansive glazing on all sides, there’s a panoramic sliding sunroof above the forward area, which includes a twin-seat helm and L-shaped companion seating, and stairs to the lower deck.

Below deck, the lower galley is to port and features high-quality Miele appliances, a fridge-freezer, and dedicated cabinetry for crockery, cutlery and glassware. A 20-bottle wine cooler can also be specified. Forward is an L-shaped dinette or a fourth cabin with Pullman berths.

Sunseeker, 75 Sport Yacht, Med, Mediterranean, MAN V12-1900, Boot Dusseldorf, Cannes Yachting Festival

The three en-suite guest cabins comprise a VIP cabin in the bow, a convertible twin/double to starboard, and a full-beam master midships, where port side options include two seats and a breakfast table, a chaise longue or a storage unit to match the starboard side.

Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht full tour: Inside a brand new £3.2m sportsbridge yacht

  • Top stories
  • yacht tours

Reporting from the 2023 Boot Düsseldorf Boat Show, MBY editor Hugo Andreae takes us on a full tour of the Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht...

Replacing the outgoing Sunseeker 74 Sport Yacht , the Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht carries new exterior glazing in the hull and superstructure as well as a new-look transom.

Changes at the stern include more symmetry, particularly as regards the stairs on either side of the hydraulic platform, and a reworked garage door, although the crew cabin for two in L-bunks still occupies the aft port corner with its own discreet door in the transom.

The furniture on the flybridge has also been redesigned so that it doesn’t protrude as much above the sportsfly’s elegant profile – a criticism noted of the earlier 74 version.

The cockpit seating has also been reworked to ease access to the starboard side-deck. Whereas the old 74 had lift-out seat and back sections, the Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht gets simpler sliding sections.

However, the drop-down glazing, that so successfully turns the cockpit and saloon into a single indoor-outdoor entertainment space, has been retained in all its glory. The foredeck, side-decks and the lower-deck provision remain unchanged.

Sunseeker 75 Sport Yacht

The next generation of Sunseeker Sport Yacht has arrived. Striking exterior features, modular furniture configurations and a contemporary interior finish deliver an exciting yacht reaching speeds of up to 40 knots with twin MAN V12-1550 or 1900 engines.

A design concept that balances beautiful architecture with functionality is central to Sunseeker’s latest Sport Yacht. The beautiful symmetry of the stern is a feature in itself. Dual steps lead from the bathing platform to the aft cockpit, with a tender garage capable of housing a Williams 395. A signature walkaround step on the bathing platform elongates the yacht while providing a visual feature that creates a unique perspective from the marina. Meanwhile, access to the starboard side is improved, making full use of the side decks.

Aesthetic styling is prevalent in every detail. The yacht profile turns heads with stainless steel air intake cowlings and exterior handrails, contributing to the high-quality finish. There is an enhanced material selection, with new exterior upholstery and moulding options. Adventurous buyers will be captivated by a choice of four new grey hull colours. Overall, the exterior is aggressive and imposing, with a new, angular hull and superstructure glazing design.

The aft cockpit benefits from a classic seating arrangement. Popular U-shaped seating with a rise-and-fall carbon fibre table provides an intimate social area. The aft sunpad is an ideal sunbathing space, with a large storage compartment concealed underneath. The cockpit door slides to starboard and then the door and window descend beneath the seating, uniting the cockpit with the saloon. A traditional second helm is accessible on the spacious flybridge via a stairway. Adjacent companion seating on the starboard side, adjoined by a chaise-longue sunpad, offers an uncompromised view of the water. Complete with a wetbar for the essentials.

Meanwhile, up front there is a spacious foredeck with seating and a table for six. Cold drinks are at hand courtesy of the built-in drawer fridges whilst the broad comfortable sunpads feature tilting backrests.

The design extends throughout the interior. Exquisite woods, contrasting fabrics and rich lacquers, paired with indirect and dimmable lighting, create a sophisticated and striking ambience. Bold features include carbon fibre trims, sharp accent designs, reflective surfaces and stainless-steel cabinet detailing. A double-piece windscreen improves visibility and invites light into the main deck. The interior space is customisable from the material selection to the configuration. The main deck seating centres around a fold-out table on the starboard side and a large television unit on the port side in a standard arrangement, all flooded by natural light thanks to the full height glazing. The comprehensively equipped helm station is forward of the U-shaped sofa, maintaining a typical Sunseeker layout.

The lower deck arrangement offers spacious accommodation for up to eight guests and two crew. A sumptuous full-beam master cabin has a dressing table fitted with storage, a chaise longue and plenty of additional wardrobe space. All three guest suites come with an en suite, and access to a shared day head is available from the lower hallway. The fully-fitted lower galley and dining space offer a social zone for intimate entertaining. With so much choice on offer, buyers can tailor their 75 Sport Yacht to fit their lifestyle perfectly. Given the breadth of entertainment spaces on offer, spacious cabins and powerful sea-keeping, the 75 Sport Yacht promises to deliver an exceptional owner experience.

Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht

As I ran the Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht from what the builder calls the SkyHelm on the flybridge, one word came to mind: fun.

This yacht, powered with optional 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels paired to pod drives, streaked across the Gulf Stream’s 3- to 5-footers at just shy of 35 knots. As we left Florida in our wake, the 40-ton yacht maneuvered like a sports car. No matter how hard or fast I cranked the wheel, it just banked solidly and asked for more.

The Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht is aptly named—for more than one reason. Designers penned the flybridge layout from a blank sheet to create a youthful, chic style. They studied today’s supercars, such as England’s 217 mph Aston Martin Valhalla. Two low-slung bucket seats are separated by a carbon-fiber, silver-lacquered console that would look at home in the latest Gulfstream G700 business-jet cockpit, right down to the throttles under the skipper’s hand.

To me, the coolest feature—an idea clearly borrowed from personal watercraft—is the steering pod that hinges up and locks in position. Yes, it has a steering wheel instead of handle bars. And, it allows the skipper to do two things: gain easy access to and from the bucket seat, and stand next to the SkyHelm, with its joystick controlling the twin pod drives and Side-Power bow thruster, providing an unrestricted view of the vessel while docking. It is a brilliant setup.

Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht

Stepping into the salon, I found coolly serene styling similar to a Cannes, France, penthouse overlooking La Croisette or a top-floor Miami suite on Biscayne Bay. Nearly 360 degrees of glass, low and comfortable furniture, and calmness exude from the smoked eucalyptus woods and nubby upholstery. The salon is designed for entertaining, with a settee to port around a folding/sliding table and a couch opposite. A notable feature is the single-level sole from the transom to the windshield, with no steps. The 7-foot-3-inch headroom adds to the feeling of spaciousness.

Aft is an optional teak hydraulic swim platform that can lift a Williams 345 SportJet. If owners don’t want the tender on the transom, they can use the garage that’s tucked in the transom; it can handle that same 11-foot-3-inch tender, with the rollers and chocks offset to port, so there is also room for Seabobs, paddleboards, dive gear or other toys.

The cockpit has a settee with a table. The yacht’s aft-galley arrangement helps the space blend with the salon. Doors framed in stainless steel slide away, and the galley’s electric window drops for pass-throughs.

Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht

The galley has a Miele three-burner cooktop, undercounter convection oven, dishwasher, ice maker, and stowage for glasses, dishes and silverware, all fiddled to prevent rattles. Rather than a full-height fridge that would block views, the 65 Sport Yacht has twin fridges under the counter to starboard.

The lower helm station has a pair of bucket seats with arms, as well as twin 15-inch Garmin displays. The design team injected a retro look on the console with round, analog gauges reminiscent of older Corvettes, and provided niceties such as stainless-steel footrests and an opening window next to the skipper.

Owners have several choices for the accommodations deck, including a galley-down layout, but I particularly liked the three-stateroom plan on this yacht. Each stateroom is en suite with Villeroy & Boch vessel sinks and Tecma heads. There is also a day head, so the staterooms remain private.

Access belowdecks is via a foyer that really should be called an atrium lobby because it is voluminous and opens to the windscreen above it. To starboard is a guest stateroom with twin berths and a full-height hanging locker (no crumpled clothes) with the en suite just forward. The VIP stateroom fills the bow with an island queen berth, drawer stowage, a hanging locker and more stowage below the berth.

Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht

The master stateroom uses the yacht’s 16-foot-8-inch beam to house a centerline berth and, on this yacht, a settee to port with a vanity/ desk. Windows with opening ports bring in light and a view, and the 6-foot-6-inch headroom adds to the airiness. One interesting option is to close off the passage to the master stateroom (this boat had a washer/dryer there) and add a desk or fourth stateroom with a bunk.

Access to the crew cabin is via a hatch from the cockpit under the bridge ladder. This cabin could be a teenage hangout; it has a single berth, sink and head, but no shower. The stairs to the bridge fold into an overhead recess.

The Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht should prove a willing partner for whatever the mood: quiet entertaining in the cockpit and salon, gracious nights in the staterooms, or a playful romp across the ocean waves. The options are almost as endless as the horizon ahead.

Fortress of Quietude

With its resin-infused construction, the Sunseeker 65 Sport Yacht emitted nary a creak or groan while running across the lumpy Gulf Stream. Solid insulation meant that at full throttle, my decibel meter in the salon barely registered 75, which is about the level of a vacuum cleaner. With the engines off, there was no way to know if the 17 kW generator was even running without looking at the instruments.

A Glazed Look

Sunseeker uses windows and ports to deliver light to the interior and create panoramic views from inside. Windows that are 6-by-4 feet line the salon, so seated guests have uninterrupted views on all sides. From the exterior, the glazing uses automotive technology for frameless flush mounting, turning the dark-tinted window shapes into rakish styling lines on the hull sides and house.

Sunseeker has sought to balance performance with luxury and sophistication. The word performance is generally not used with a yacht that is 75’ in length, however this is the exception. The fully planing, shallow deadrise hull, which is comprised of a deeper, sharp bow entry with multiple lifting strakes, is closer in design to an offshore performance hull, rather than a traditional semi-displacing motoryacht. This design negates the need for stabilizers, further reducing drag. While most people are enthralled by the looks of certain yachts, it’s the technology below the waterline that is equally important. Integrated into the 75’s hull is a tunnel drive propulsion system that reduces drag, concentrates thrust and allows the props ventilate at higher speeds, thus increasing RPM’s. Because its sharp bow entry is carried to midship, where the planing surface takes over, the bow is capable of absorbing a fair amount of chop without transferring impact into the hull. This elongated bow section also creates a hydrodynamic slot that helps the hull maintain a designated track without the use of a keel. The absence of a keel, coupled with recessed props, allow the aft section of the hull to pivot around the forward section of the hull, greatly enhancing the turning ability of this yacht. Essentially... passengers will need to hold on tight during a high speed, full lock turn.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The sub-surface technology is only the beginning here. Take the hydraulic swim platform for instance, which can be lowered below the waterline to aid in tender retrieval or deployment. There is a safety switch to prevent the engines from going into gear with the platform down, and if you have a hydraulic pump problem, a manual pump enables you to get the platform up again. Redundancy is a good thing! The swim platform can also double as a sundeck when it’s not playing a supporting role for tender. To make the most of the salon's interior space, access to the flybridge is via a stairwell from the aft cockpit, as seen in this shot.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

This pictures clearly depicts the amount of lift this hull generates. The freeboard looks much greater when she is on plane. Also note how far back the wake table is behind the transom. This Sunseeker is no slouch!

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

One of the best features about the flybridge is the aft-deck, which is large enough for several sunlounges and whatever you’de like to decorate them with. If it weren’t for the radar arch, the aft-deck is almost large enough to double as heli-pad. There are also several "bars" on the flybridge. One to serve refreshments and the others… to hold onto when turning.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

On the flybridge, the helm has two bench style seats, to port and starboard that allow upwards of 5 guests to enjoy the captain’s perspective. Just aft of these command posts is a crescent shaped settee. (see the deck layout rendering earlier in this thread)

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The inside helm is not really a traditional bridge, it’s more like a sports car. (zoom- zoom!)

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

Sleek lines are synonymous with Sunseekers and that motif is carried through to their interiors. While the salon provides ample dining and entertainment areas, as well as a fully-equipped galley, space might be the only area that has not kept pace with the other advancements this yacht features. The problem that every manufacturers faces is how to incorporate all of the features of their larger yachts, into their mid-size offerings.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The interior décor and appointments on Sunseekers has traditionally put a capital on the word "Plush" and the 75 is no exception. However, space has taken a back seat to creating a dimensional environment in the salon. This includes having the dinette in a raised section that is not flush with the main deck, however this is a trait common to many mid-size yachts.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The galley is not as large as some offerings in this size range, however Sunseeker has managed to create a wrap-around kitchen that puts every appliance within arms reach. Can't complain here, some larger yachts still use a "pantry" style galley that offers no way to converse with others onboard, unless they are standing in the galley isle.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

While much of Sunseeker’s range is production line in nature, the company’s yachts are semi-custom, giving owners the ability to specify a choice of interior finishes, furnishings and drive systems. The 75’ has a versatile range of accommodations for up to eight guests with stern crew accommodations for two. The owner’s double berth master stateroom is fully equipped with a walk-in wardrobe.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The VIP guest stateroom has an en-suite shower and walk-in wardrobe room as well. Two additional guest cabins are also included. Features flat-screen televisions, hi-fi surround sound DVD/CD system and radio/CD players throughout.

sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

The master bath. Richly appointed, as we've come to expect from Sunseeker. The master stateroom is located a midship and the head, seen in this picture, is located just aft, as is the walk-in wardrobe on the opposing side.

The recipient of two International Superyacht Design awards and a multiple-time recipient of the Queen’s Award for Export Achievement, the vast majority of Sunseeker production is exported. This is no surprise for those of us in the states, as they can be seen on many of the waterways we cruise on, with more frequency than a Mercury motor. <end> Six lines of yachts and related vessels make up Sunseeker’s fleet. They vary from 34' to 140’ in length, with the smaller yachts being the speed leaders. The 75' is giving chase to all of them and could well become the most popular in their fleet. sunseeker 75 sport yacht review

It is nice to see that Sunseeker are coming back to a more angular design, which hopefully will last longer than the previous teardrop hype. If you compare the 75 with the new Riva Opera 85, you can see they are almost identical and I think the rest of the producers will soon follow...
