DAR Yacht for Charter

If you’re looking for the ultimate in luxury and privacy, look no further than the multi-award-winning 295.3' (90m) DAR. Constructed by powerhouse Dutch superyacht builders Oceanco in 2018, this exceptional yacht features seamless black glass that encases the superstructure allowing for uninterrupted views while at the same time protecting guests from prying eyes.

Nature-inspired Design

Designer Luiz De Basto took inspiration from hammerhead sharks in creating DAR’s aggressive yet streamlined exterior, while the light, bright, nature-themed interiors are the work of Valentina Zannier of Italian studio Nuvolari Lenard and take advantage of the floor-to-ceiling windows throughout. Motifs of fish, leaves, olive trees, blossoms and waves are cleverly integrated into a wide variety of materials, from paint to plaster, carved leather, engraved glass and embroideries. Linen is used in an unusual way, substituted for joinery on doors and drawers. In keeping with the yacht owner’s wishes, wood is used sparingly and when it is, it is mainly light-hued timber with an unusual finish, sycamore dyed grey, maple veneer steamed and bent into curves, a little dark veneer used to contrast with limed ash. A school of fish in Venetian plaster swims along the walls up the central staircase and around the glass elevator—one of many playful elements created by DKT Artworks.

Stunning Interiors

DAR’s main deck provides immaculate spaces for lounging, fine dining, or simply relaxing with a perfectly mixed cocktail at the bar or at the games table. There is also a gym surrounded by windows providing incredible sea views and a spa with a hammam, sauna and treatment room.

A more intimate atmosphere can be found in the skylounge, which showcases a sit-up bar and a cinema boasting a library of over 1,300 films and TV programs. A wall of glass offers the best views on board while, at the same time, the innovative design ensures complete privacy to the outside world.

Plush Accommodations

A soft palette of cream and light grey enhances the sense of calm and relaxation for up to 12 guests in DAR’s seven luxurious staterooms. The spectacular Master deck features a completely private spa pool flanked by windows that reveal the world to the guests but not the guests to the world. There is also a salon on the aft deck with a sofa that can be spun 360 degrees to the sitter’s desired position.

A further two VIP staterooms and four doubles can be found forward on the main deck, all with effortlessly elegant décor.

Outdoor Living

DAR’s exterior spaces are just as impressive and voluminous as her interiors. Sun lovers are bound to head for the upper deck with its abundance of sun loungers and its raised pool with a beautiful waterfall feature and counter-current for those who wish to get some exercise in. There is also ample space for shaded al fresco dining. For uninterrupted tanning, the sundeck is a peaceful retreat with loungers and sofas positioned to take in the passing vistas.

Entertainment

Thrill seekers are bound to enjoy the built-in slide from the Master deck as well as DAR’s overflowing toy box. This RYA center has everything from Seadoos, SeaBobs, and a Jetsurf to Gocycle bicycles and kayaks, all accessible from the expansive beach club with its comfortable lounge and over-the-water balconies perfect for sunset cocktails.

Two custom tenders and a helipad (created by covering the pool) make coastal exploring and journeys from shore to ship a seamless enterprise.

90m Voyager: First Fully-Integrated Superyacht

The largest project ever undertaken in the 30 year history of Florida-based Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG) has been completed. Following a three year conversion from a commercial vessel, the custom 90m M/Y Voyager has been unveiled in Fort Lauderdale and becomes the first fully-integrated ocean-going superyacht, boasting some impressive unique innovations.

Before her christening as M/Y Voyager, the superyacht was known simply as ‘The Big Project’, which accurately sums up how she is regarded by those at VMAG. President of VMAG, David Leone, spoke of the scale of the refit operation. “ Very little was left untouched throughout the vessel,” said Leone, “ so it was crucial to manage each section of the refit, in the right order, to avoid any delays and additional costs. ”

M/Y Voyager’s refit brings an unprecedented level of automated technology fitted around the superyacht, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but ensures a seamless running of the vessel. “ I am particularly proud to create the first ever entire superyacht vessel integration, with over 3.000 monitored points, ” commented David Leone. “ That was some achievement! This means that anywhere on the vessel there are access points that can monitor any type of activity .”

Such holistic visibility of all on-board systems allows the Captain to have complete control no matter where he may be on the yacht. Voyager benefits from unique integrated video switching, using laser detection sensors and high grade analytic cameras to record activity. Touch-screen consoles are then fed real-time analytical data to allow any necessary actions to be deployed and corrected immediately. Multiple glass touch-screen panels grace the yacht’s bridge, and enhance usability of the control systems to manage the vessel.

For the team at VMAG, this has been a monumental project successfully executed. Leone added that “ with our team of technical engineers, I knew we could accomplish this particularly complex project .” Having successfully completed Voyager’s conversion, the company are now aiming to take on projects of a similar complexity and scale.

Reading between the lines following the launch of the first fully-integrated luxury yacht, one can deduce a prevalent trend of technological innovations in the industry. While Voyager is a trailblazer for integrated superyachts, advancements in technology are revolutionising all areas of the industry, notably being put to use to develop eco-friendly yachting .

A superyacht charter is many things. An escape, a luxury, an adventure and, if you’re one of the fortunate few to charter the 90m yacht NERO , it’s a journey back in time to the halcyon, golden days of yachting.

I had the pleasure of a mini-charter aboard this mighty motor yacht whilst she reclined at anchor off Monaco last month. Stepping aboard, I was immediately transported far from the stresses of modern life and cocooned in comfort, with deep-cushioned sofas and inviting aft deck seating simply waiting to offer their embrace.

In a more unusual approach to these charter experience trips, rather than rushing through an itinerary testing the yacht’s water toys and tasting the chef’s culinary showcase, I was encouraged to take my time, unwind, and make myself at home.

My time was mine to spend as I chose. I read in the sun on the aft deck loungers, I dipped a toe in the gently bubbling Jacuzzi, I observed the coastline of the glamorous Côte d’Azur, and I perused the menu of spa treatments before deciding on a 60-minute massage prior to dinner.

And this quiet sense of wellbeing is Nero’s USP amongst the charter fleet. During the yacht’s extensive refit in 2020/21, the sun deck ‘sung’ was transformed into a state-of-the-art gym and a dedicated massage/spa treatment room created.

Interior designer, Laura Pomponi, joined me for dinner to share how she set about achieving this. “An important part of the refit brief was to provide the right dynamic for healthy living onboard,” explains Pomponi. “Being able to offer a full suite of spa treatments was an aspect we knew would further expand Nero’s charter success.” As onboard wellness becomes a more and more common request on the superyacht charter wish list, these modern amenities have been incorporated aboard Nero in a fashion that’s sympathetic to her classic aesthetic.

Beautiful and elegant accommodation

Whilst Nero measures 90m in length, the internal layout sees this utilised in a different way to most yachts of this size. Multiple lounges and seating areas have been created on different decks, each with a different ambience and purpose. The main saloon features huge sofas and a coffee table with armchairs, there’s a library lounge adjacent to the sweeping wooden staircase, an upper deck cocktail bar, and an enormous cinema/family room with direct access from the owner’s suite.

The owner’s quarters feature another lounge and study space that can be closed off as part of the private section or shared with guests as desired. The result is an enormous self-contained apartment with access to the deck. Guests are catered for in similarly indulgent fashion, with three doubles and two twin suites, all with full ensuite baths.

Nero has a stately formal dining room on the main deck, but the crew advise this is rarely used with guests favouring to dine al fresco at either of the aft deck tables. The sun deck offers a more intimate setting for meals, with a smaller table that’s cosy for couples.

Delicious dishes on board

Nero runs with a crew of 20 and is equipped with Jet Skis, SeaBobs, a Flyboard, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, and an inflatable slide that runs from the sun deck to the ocean. The yacht is served by three tenders, including a beautiful Corsair limousine for stylish transfers between superyacht and shore.

Pairing all the mechanics, operational systems, and luxuries of modern-day superyachting with a design that would have you thinking this graceful lady of the sea was significantly more advanced in her years, is a remarkable achievement. Designed to emulate yachts of the 1920s and ‘30s, in particular the Corsair vessels owned by American financier J. P. Morgan, Nero is a nod to a more romantic maritime heritage.

Exclusive: Lürssen launches 90m expedition yacht NORN

The latest addition to the Lürssen fleet, the 90m (295ft) superyacht NORN , formerly known as Project 1601, has just launched from the floating dock at the shipyard's Vegesack facilities in Germany. 

Boasting a sleek light grey silhouette, the brand new expedition yacht NORN sports a striking exterior helmed by Norwegian designer and naval architect Espen Oeino whilst her yet-to-be-revealed interiors are the works of Dölker+Voges Design.

Built for a repeat owner, superyacht NORN is a replacement vessel for the 70m (232ft) yacht SKAT , which was delivered in 2002. 

An iconic expedition yacht, SKAT boasted an array of light, bright and airy social spaces and sported a sleek, minimalist interior approach. So, if the new expedition yacht NORN is anything like the former vessel, we can expect her to follow a similar interior design as shown in the images below. 

The specifications and amenities for the new Lürssen vessel have been kept a closely guarded secret but as a custom-built 3,600 GT explorer yacht, NORN is guaranteed to have a helipad, closing the bridge between land and sea for guests onboard. 

It is not believed that superyacht NORN will be available to charter upon delivery.

Oceanco’s new 90m/295ft dreamboat has been successfully delivered to her owners

Oceanco’s 90-meter motor yacht DreAMBoat is exactly what the name implies—the Owner’s dream yacht. The Owner stepped into the project at precisely the right time. With hull and superstructure already completed, he was able to save build and engineering time and still make the yacht his own. Oceanco began the yacht for a future client interested in the Oceanco pedigree and inherent ability to build an innovative yacht combined with the novelty of a first-time collaboration between two of the most renowned yacht designers in the superyacht world— Espen Øino International for the exterior and Terence Disdale Design for the interior.

The Owner was taken with the classic elegant and engaging exterior lines that would sustain a timeless appeal and found that the interior layout was perfectly suited to his intended use. The generous overhangs from the superstructure and cutouts in the bulwarks lend a traditional yet strong appearance. DreAMBoat boasts a full carbon canopy mast house and mast, which forms an integral part of the overall design.

“At the outset the exterior design was intended to be understated and timeless,” says exterior designer Espen Øino, “working closely with Oceanco all the primary surfaces and details were created keeping this in mind. The result is one I think we all can identify with. At the launch she came out of the facilities looking strong and proud with a lot of presence. The exterior deck areas flow seamlessly into the interior spaces maintaining continuity and consistency. The external decks offer a variety of living spaces and experiences with the sun deck probably being the biggest in its class with ample space for entertainment and lounging both in the shade and in the sun. The fixed and loose furniture as well as the upholstery and cushions all provide an inviting and harmonious ensemble which complement the external design of the yacht very well.”

At 2950GT, the volume allows for luxurious accommodation for up to 23 guests and a well-thought-out crew’s quarters for a maximum of 33 crewmembers. The design emphasis is on large windows that flood the interior with daylight and offer unspoiled views from the inside out. Outside spaces feature a large swimming pool 6m long X 3.1m wide X 1.44m deep on the main aft deck; an enormous partially enclosed sundeck; an area where the Owner and his family will most spend their time with Jacuzzi and copious options for seating/ entertaining with an outdoor open cinema. There is also a private jacuzzi on the Owner’s deck, a spa on the bridge deck aft with a custom-built hydro/massage bath and a large selection of water toys including a custom-built dive board. DreAMBoat has been built in harmony to accommodate family life.

Terence Disdale has created an interior that incorporates bespoke surfaces, natural wood, limestone floors, semi-precious stone vanities, parchment, leather and mother of pearl. The effect is elegant without being overdone.

“Following our successful collaboration with Oceanco designing the interior of Sunrays we were asked to become involved with DreAMBoat, says Terence Disdale of Terence Disdale Design. “The layout was construed along with my good friend Espen, who is responsible for the naval architecture and exterior design. Our interior design features many exotic finishes creating an harmonious and calm environment including surprise details to entertain the eye.” Disdale adds, “We always strive to avoid the “big wow” factor that soon becomes boring. We believe that DreAMBoat with her quietly sophisticated interior is indeed a future classic.”

Dan Jackson, the Owner’s representative remarked: “From the first time the Owner saw the boat, still in pink faring compound in the outfitting facility and met all involved in the project, he knew that the combination of Espen’s timeless exterior, Terence Disdale’s elegant and calming interior and Oceanco’s ability to deliver the boat on time and to the quality he required, was just right for him. So, after some minor enhancements made to suit him and his family, we got right into it and here we are, 18 months later, proud to be delivering him his DreAMBoat”.

The Owner is looking forward to a summer season of cruising with family—his children and grandchildren— as well as with friends. The large saloons, multiple dining areas, along with intimate lounging settings offer myriad possibilities for large and small groups to congregate making DreAMBoat ideal for a multigenerational group. DreAMBoat is an example of proven reliable technology, combined with state- of-the- art AV/IT infrastructure, including a complex IP ship’s computer operating system. Abeking & Rasmussen unveils 90m Elemental sailing yacht concept

Abeking & Rasmussen , Tripp Design and Studio Liaigre have teamed up on a 90 metre sailing yacht concept named Elemental Sail.

Announced at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show, the concept is one of two new designs by the trio that form the 'elemental project' which aims to make "motor yachts more energy-efficient and sailing yachts more user friendly."

"Elemental Sail offers all the volume and amenities of a motor yacht in an environmentally friendlier package that will have a broader appeal to charter guests and owners alike," the shipyard said.

Elemental Sail features an exterior profile by Tripp Design characterised by a long waterline, a pair of 82.5 metre masts and extensive use of glass. The twin masts, which can rotate, are fitted with furling booms to simplify sail handling with sail adjustment at the touch of a button. This allows owners and guests to "enjoy the exhilaration of sailing at an unparalleled level of ease," the shipyard said.

The configuration of the rig also allows the deck to be free of lines, while the system can be operated by a smaller crew, reducing some of the running costs typically associated with large sailing yachts. Elemental Sail will also feature a lifting keel.

The 2,300GT concept features a curved hull that allows for larger interior volumes and a generous living area. The owner’s suite is positioned on the upper deck and faces aft, with the benefit of a private terrace, an office and a wellness area on the same level. Four double guests cabins are found on the main deck with a VIP guest cabin forward, while a further four guest cabins are located on the lower deck. All crew areas are positioned forward on the lower deck.

Meanwhile, Studio Liaigre was appointed to handle the interior layout. The interior concept for Elemental Sail features a number of "mini-worlds" that sit within larger spaces to create, smaller, more private areas on board.

Other amenities include a fitness area on the lower deck, spanning the yacht’s entire 14.5 metre beam, a freshwater pool positioned on the flybridge, and a beach club equipped with a sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. The area is accessible from the interiors via sliding glass doors and also features a sun lounging space.

The sailing yacht is also designed with ample storage for two tenders, a 10 metre limousine tender and a seven metre open tender, with tender operations moved to the bow so the launch and recovery of toys and tenders can be executed without disturbing activities in the beach club area.

Powered by twin 1,350 kW electric engines, Elemental Sail can reach a top speed of 18 knots with a range of 3,500 nautical miles when cruising at 13 knots.

The second design in the elemental family is a 75 metre motor yacht, named Elemental Power, which was also unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show .

With armed groups controlling most of Haiti’s capital following the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry this week, residents are increasingly desperate for food and calm as widespread looting and street battles engulf the nation . 

Roughly 1.4 million people in Haiti are on the verge of famine, aid groups say, and more than 15,000 people have been left homeless amid the recent maelstrom of violence. 

The powerful gang leader Jimmy “Barbeque” Cherizier, who rules large portions of the capital Port-au-Prince and heads the the “G9” gang alliance, meanwhile continues to refuse to deal with political leaders who want to put forth candidates for a transitional governing council and plan elections.  

“It’s not just people with guns who’ve damaged the country but the politicians too,” Cherizier told Al Jazeera . 

“Now our fight will enter another phase – to overthrow the whole system,” he said. “The system that is 5 percent of people who control 95 percent of the country’s wealth.”

Henry announced on Tuesday he would step down once a temporary council is formed and his interim replacement is selected, but the gangs calling for his ouster have continued to terrorize the poverty-stricken island.

The armed groups have closed off distribution routes and effectively shut down the country’s main port, said Jean-Martin Bauer, Haiti director for the the United Nations World Food Program. The program’s warehoused supply of grains, beans and vegetables is dwindling as the agency continues to deliver meals, he added. 

“We have supplies for weeks. I’m saying weeks, not months,” Bauer said. “That has me terrified.”

On Wednesday, a shootout rocked one neighborhood while a police academy was attacked early Thursday. 

“Ariel Henry resigned, but we are still in political distress,” resident Claude Atilus said. 

“We must take our destiny into our own hands. I want the political players to rise to the task and commit themselves to organizing the country.”

Taiwan warns off Chinese coast guard boats again as tensions simmer

T aiwan on Saturday warned off Chinese coast guard ships that entered its restricted waters near frontline islands close to China for a second day in a row, as tensions simmer across the sensitive Taiwan Strait.

Taiwan’s coast guard said four Chinese coast guard boats on Saturday morning entered the restricted waters of Taiwan-controlled Kinmen islands, which hug the Chinese coast.

It said the Chinese boats stayed just over an hour after Taiwan authorities asked them to leave.

China claims democratically-governed Taiwan as its own territory, over the island’s strong objections.

It has stepped up military activities near Taiwan in recent years, with almost daily incursions into air defence identification zones.

“You have entered our country’s restricted waters. Please turn around immediately,” a Taiwan official said via radio in a broadcast message to their Chinese counterparts, according to footage released on Saturday by Taiwan’s coast guard.

The footage shows a Taiwan coast guard boat tracking the movement of two Chinese ships in the near distance.

“The move has seriously impacted traffic and safety. To avoid triggering naval incidents we urge them to stop such behaviours,” Taiwan’s coast guard said in a statement.

There was no immediate comment from China’s coast guard, which does not have publicly available contact details.

China’s coast guard conducted patrols near the Kinmen Islands on Friday as well, with four Chinese coast guard boats being warned away by their Taiwanese counterparts, according to Taiwan’s official Central News Agency.

Last month, China’s coast guard began regular patrols around Kinmen, after two Chinese nationals died while trying to flee Taiwan’s coast guard after their boat entered prohibited waters.

Taiwan dispatched coast guard boats on Thursday to join a  rescue mission  at China’s request after a Chinese fishing vessel capsized near the Kinmen islands.

Taiwan’s government has stressed the importance of co-operation between Taiwan and China amid the heightened tensions.

On Friday, Taiwan also sent several boats at China’s request to help search for a Chinese fisherman who went overboard near the Taiwan-controlled Matsu islands, in the northern end of the Taiwan Strait.

A senior Taiwan security official, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, told Reuters that Beijing is sending out “confusing” messages by continuing its harassment of Taiwan, while also asking for Taipei’s assistance on dealing with maritime incidents.

The official said the latest moves by the Chinese coast guard in Kinmen “did not carry substantial security threats” but complicated the situation there.

“We are clueless,” the official said. “We tried to save their fishermen yesterday and today they are baring their teeth and claws.”

Last week, Taiwan’s top China policy-making body urged its giant neighbour not to change the “status quo” in waters near Kinmen by sending coast guard boats into restricted areas.
